I was upset that New York Morimoto closed so I was dreading the fact that I now have to travel to Philly to appreciate his food. But trust me on this, this is way worth it traveling 2 hours for. There is absolutely nothing bad to say about food and service. They are both top notch. Aside from obvious such as sushi/sashimi, I highly recommend wagyu bibimpop. They would cook it on the table for you for just about right temperature. These are my favorite items. I wasn't sure what to make of the atmosphere but I finally understood that the whole interior design was meant to represent ocean. Now everything makes sense. We were in town for the weekend and celebrated mums bday here. Love the atmosphere, has a really cool comfortable very modern vibe. Awesome lightening and trendy decor. The service is pretty good, waiter was nice. I would say average, it was a busy night so perhaps they are more attentive when it's less crowded. They forgot to bring one of the dishes we ordered and they never really checked if we needed anything else. We ordered 2 drinks, the heartbreak hotel which was sooo good, very refreshing and also tasty. And the Soroban, not a fan it tasted like plain whiskey. So I unfortunately have to give a 1-star review. Why? Ambience, as always, was perfection. Food was delicious, as always. Problem. I was deceptively enticed into spending over $40 in desserts. No, I'm not joking. I'm not cheap. We ordered the most expensive entrees on the menu and even added an additional entree for my son-in-law when the cod didn't begin to fill him up. We ordered sides. We had non-alcoholic drinks as we don't drink alcohol. With everything we ordered, we were full. But the waitress kept plugging the desserts. I finally asked if they were bringing them because I'd told Morimoto's receptionist that we were celebrating 3 birthdays. Was this what they did for birthdays, because we were full? I mean, if this is what they did for birthdays, sure, I'd order. There was nothing ambiguous about my question. Nothing. I didn't want to beat a dead horse, because I didn't want to look cheap in front of my kids. AND, because I wasn't in the mood to be pestered after a nice meal - and I WAS being pestered. She replied coyly, "You'll just have to see!" I took that to mean "yes". WHO says something like that and then charges for the desserts? Well they wrote "Happy Birthday" on the plates and charged me well over $40 for the priviledge. I'd have never have ordered them. So while I'm used to paying $75 pp and up and tipping 30%, I'm not going again. That left a very sour taste in my mouth. Before you ask, no, I didn't bring the charge up to the waitress when she brought me my bill. I didn't want to spoil my daughter's birthday celebration or her husband's birthday celebration. I can't believe I never wrote a review for this place. I've been here a few times already and I haven't yet wrote a review. Morimoto is literally my favorite chef in the whole world. When we lived in Philly we came here for my birthday, with friends, for anniversaries. We were here again recently visiting our couple-friends, G & V. G has a rule to go to every Morimoto restaurant in the world as it is also his favorite restaurant. V and I decided to get omakase as I had always wanted to try it. G & A got regular al a carte food. The omakase was amazing... I can't believe I never got it before. I forgot to take some pictures of all the courses and I don't remember the name of some of them, but I think it changes from time to time because G said they used to have certain courses but they no longer have. I remember some of the courses: there was a chawanmushi (Japanese custard), a sashimi dish, black cod, a lobster dish (that was really amazing, tender, not overcooked), a raw meat/seafood wrapped in shishito leaf which you had to eat in one bite, and the dessert was also very good. I think it was some meringue dish with sorbet (based on the picture). Again, everything was amazing and I highly recommend trying the Omakase at least once. G got the large sushi platter and A got the chicken katsu curry. We also got cocktails but I also don't remember the names of some of them. G also got the hot sone wagyu beef, which if you haven't done before, is quite a fun little experience. They bring you a really hot stone, that you rub a piece of fat on before you cook the slices of beef. It's quite fun to do, pricey, but fun. Ambience is busy as always so make a reservation. Service is excellent as always and the wait staff are attentive, fast, and can answer any and all questions. G asked if Morimoto comes around and the waitress said not really because the owners of restaurants will only go to restaurants that are brand new or not doing well. So the fact that it's doing well is a good thing. If you're in Philly, try Morimoto's. You won't be disappointed. Morimoto is a superb dining experience. The restaurant is decorated in a very futuristic way and the service is excellent. But what really steals the show is the food. I went here for a corporate meeting and we sat in a private room and had a family style dinner so I was able to try a lot of the dishes on the menu. Each dish is presented in a very artistic way and every bite I had was delicious. The fish melts in your mouth and many of the dishes come in a delicious sauce. My favorite was a whitefish carpaccio that was in a yuzu sauce that was the perfect amount of a citrus bite. Both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are creative and delicious. Lychee #1 and the sunrise n/a drinks were the perfect blend of sweet and fruity. I don't give 5 stars to many restaurants but Morimoto deserves it! Without a doubt, this was one of the best omakases I have ever had. I've tried maybe 10-15 spots between New York and San Francisco and this one has to be in the top 3. The flavors were so imaginative, so well paired together that I was shocked with every bite on how it was better than the last. We ordered the Chef's Omakase ($165/person at the time) and the following dishes were served: - egg custard with scallion oil and topped with uni (loved the savory twist on an egg custard) - tuna tartare with chutoro and otoro, fried onions, in a soy mirin dashi broth, topped with caviar and a side of fresh wasabi (the tuna was incredible but that fresh wasabi blew us away) - A5 wagyu with uni, wrapped in a shiso leaf - lobster with sake butter served over whiskey barrel - grilled red snapper with red snapper consume, accompanied by sugar snap peas and white asparagus (sooo fragrant and the accompaniments were perfect) It was super hard to choose just one favorite among the dishes served, overall so so so good. While I'm a huge fan of Royal Izakaya and Sagami sushi, Morimoto had a unique flavor and experience that really quite impressed me. From the service to the interior décor and ambiance, I was quite impressed and pleased. For appetizers, we got the rock shrimp tempura and the hot stone wagyu, tuna tartare, and hamachi ponzu. The rock shrimp was good but I wasn't overly impressed. The Wagyu was perfect (especially for those who wants to try wagyu beef) and such a fun experience to be able to cook it on a hot stone. The tuna tartare was perfectly seasoned. The Hamachi ponzu was probably the best appetizer dish. It has a nice kick with the jalapeño, but the ponzu really helped balance it out. The Wasabi rice was also fantastic and not as spicy as you would think. Dinner we got a Chef's Combo ($90), Black Cod Miso, Australian Wagyu Filet, and a Sukiyaki Udon. I was here with a party of 6 so two orders of the Chef's Combo was perfect with nothing left on the trays. The Black Miso Cod was PHENOMENAL and so flavorful and tender. The Wagyu filet was also nice and tender - perfectly cooked. The Sukiyaki udon was delicious as well (sorry! - no pic of this). Dessert was a whole different experience! We got the Fiery Chocolate, Sorbet Trio, ice cream, and the Chocolate mousse cake. I'm a little biased because I prefer ice cream and sorbet, so these were my favorite. However, the fiery chocolate was a fun entertainment and was also quite delicious. It was a bit on the heavier side. The mousse cake was also delicious, however, I'm not too big of a mousse fan. We were in town for business and my colleagues and I went to Morimoto for a business dinner...I was blown away. Here is what stood out: - We were being hosted by one of our vendors, but she had made a mistake on the date of the reservation and was off by one day...however Morimoto got us seated anyway. - Totally cool and contemporary vibe. - Top notch service from both our server and from the sommelier. - Excellent and unusual cocktails. - Great sake. - Unique wine options. - Tremendous menu...we had great starters and entrees, including the sushi; the food was so good it would take me too much space to review each item separately, but suffice it to say that not a single thing disappointed except for the Green Tea Cotton Cheesecake dessert. Bottom line: I wished I could go back with my wife ASAP, but we live on the west coast so that's not to be. It will be on our "to do" list for the next time we're in Philly! read more

We arrive in Philly in the evening and I am looking for a place to eat so I check the trusty Yelp app and I see there is no wait for a walk in party so we head out to have some Iron Chef quality eats. Staff greets us and is very friendly amd we are led to a prime table towards the rear. Of course, Morimoto isn't cheap eats and is on the pricey side but hey, what do you expect? We order the Hamachi app in ponzu and that is one of my favorites...it doesn't disappoint. We also go for the chef's sushi special and the chirashi bowl...wow...the sushi is so fresh with different types of fish that you just don't get at your local sushi joint...so good. I've been wanting to come to Morimoto ever since it opened years ago but just never made the time to get here. Last night was finally the time to get down and dirty. I came here with my best friend for dinner and it was amazing. The restaurant is a really big rectangle with a grid of mostly 4-top tables in the center which are separated by plastic walls which glow colored hues of blue, red, green, and others which you soon forget about when it came to actually eating the outstanding food. The outer edge of the rectangle has raised 2-top tables. I got to the restaurant a little earlier than my friend so I started with a drink called "Lost in Translation" which was described as a sweet and smoky margarita. It has mezcal within which for me is not a favorite but wow, this drink had a superb balance of the flavors which made it so good for me. My friend came and ordered a "This is a Pen" which has Makers Mark and even chocolate bitters and honey. I got one, too, and just like my first drink where I'm not a huge fan of straight whiskey, the blend of flavors was balanced perfectly where you don't even realize that you don't like the main part of the drink. It was just pleasant to consume. For food, we went with the Seasonal Menu to start. This menu is digital only because it changes weekly. Morimoto imports fresh wild-caught fish and other creatures weekly from Japan. The pieces range in price from $9 to $16 each. You can choose a Chef's Selection of eight pieces of sushi ($75) or sashimi ($80). We were originally going to go with the sushi and split evenly but then advised that the sashimi is two pieces of each so we went with that so we both could experience all of the different flavors chosen by the Chef. I put a picture of what we received. I couldn't tell you what everything we got was, but we did get the favorites of our server, and the main centerpiece was the fatty toro which was recommended for last as it was the best piece of sashimi on the plate. And it absolutely was. Buttery, fatty, sweet, melt-in-your-mouth sashimi with a touch of caviar as a bonus. Just excellent and with all of the other flavors was what we thought was a great value for the quality of the fish. We also went with the fresh wasabi which was explained to us that they take the root and literally grind it using shark skin until we got a nice sized dollop of wasabi. For our entree, we both went with the Seafood Toban Yaki. This was seafood including lobster, whitefish, shrimp, scallop, all immersed in a butter sauce to die for. Everything was perfectly cooked perfectly. We complemented the Toban Yaki with a bowl of wasabi fried rice which upped the game of fried rice. The butter sauce added to the wasabi fried rice was a great addition to the taste. This was an outstanding meal. I'm also giving extra props to Isaiah our waiter who was so professional and just gave us one of the best experiences I've had in a restaurant. He would like some time in the kitchen to learn and improve his food skills! Came in with high-expectations, left fully satisfied and wanting more. Morimoto really doesn't disappoint. From the ambiance, to the service, and to the food. everything was phenomenal. If had to say one negative thing, it would be that all the deserts are mediocre. I was really skeptical about pricy foods with low portion sizes, but surprisingly, the price tags are justifiable on most of the food options....yes even the omakase. Traditionally, when you go to sushi restaurants, omakase are the chef's choice of sushi where you leave starving, but this omakase is actually 7 small plates of food. The servers were all very knowledgeable about the menu, and very helpful. It's rare to find a restaurant where the workers are committed to their work. Morimoto is treating them really well! After seeing and sampling a bunch of their food options I would say the best bang for your buck is the sushi rolls. They are incredibly cheap for a high-end restaurant with such high quality fish. The sushi combinations that range from small to large are actually pretty good deals as well. The sushi all comes with fresh wasabi which makes the fresh quality fish taste even better. Lastly, if you really want a full sampling, the omakase is one to try if you're willing to spend a pretty penny. Lastly, the bathroom is spotless which is always a plus at any restaurant. This is the best sushi restaurant in the U.S., period. I've been dining here for 20 years, every chance I get when traveling to or through Philadelphia. The fish quality and selection are unsurpassed. The ambiance and decor are unique and memorable. The service is top notch. I was passing through Philly a few days ago so, of course, I went. I had the omakase, which was a new composition since I last had it a couple of years ago. The first course, a caviar-topped bao is, perhaps, the best single bite of food you will ever have. The omakase weaved in an out of various proteins masterfully. When the nigiri course arrives, start with the shrimp and go in order of presentation to finish with the chu-toro. It is perfect that way. The panna cotta dessert might have been the only weakness in the 8 course lineup. After many years, Morimoto still has it. read more

We ended up being there almost 2.5 hours. My partner got the $75 chef choice sushi platter. It was at the table incredibly fast at the beginning before I got my first course. He was done by the 3rd course and he took his time and then had to sit for 5 more. The food and service never disappoints. My husband and I have been coming here for years and have enjoyed many many dishes which are consistently delicious. My favorite are the hot stone waygu and hamachi ponzu. The tangy citrus from the hamachi ponzu sauce is so savory! Remember to sprinkle the salt mixture on the wagyu steak; it really adds just enough flavor. And just a little bit goes a long way! After 540ish, the noise level becomes really loud and the restaurant is packed, especially on the weekend. It's a little difficult to hear conversations, but the food and service still make up for the noise level. The decor is trendy if you like that kind of style. Personally I find the lamps a little odd and they provide minimal light. And the bathroom is in the basement and down a long hallway which is a little creepy especially going alone. My fiancé & I rang in the new year at Morimoto's and we were certainly not disappointed! This has been a bucket list place for us to visit and we are big fans of most Starr Restaurants. Honestly, we can't wait to come back! The atmosphere is modern & clean, though it didn't feel pretentious. The staff was all very kind, knowledgeable, and attentive! We arrived earlier than our reservation and were seated much faster than I had expected. We started out with the soft-shelled crab roll and nigiri. The quality of the fish was as high as I expected it to be and everything was so fresh. The fresh ground wasabi was a highlight as well! For the main course - we had the wagyu dumplings, Butadon, and Ishi Yaki Bop with wagyu beef prepared table side. It was all out of this world delicious! Paired it with the Lost in Translation cocktail, this was certainly a dinner to remember. The portions were just right, the both of us clearing out perspective plates. Our service was okay, but not great. Our server was nice and suggested we tell him what we like and then he could suggest some things. Then he left to get our drinks, came back and I told him what I usually liked, and then he stared at me like, "And???" So I asked what he might recommend knowing what I tended to like and I feel like he was sort of annoyed I was asking. I would up ordering sushi, which I was expecting to be mind blowing being this is Morimoto. Instead it was just meh. There's a sushi place in Dallas called Uchi that can only be described as an experience, and I thought this would be like that - fresh unique preparations. Instead, it was about the same as what I would get at an okay-ish sushi restaurant at home. We did order dessert, which was whatever the flaming one was. The show was the best part about it. The taste was okay. It was an okay dining experience. Still usually the apps would come out as ready but here, the overcooked and cover salted edamame came out followed by one entree, then several apps, then other entrees. Bucket list of Foodie Adventures! Shoutout to the Iron Chef Legend and his team. This venue brings together class, culture, and passion! There is depth to every aspect of the cuisine. The first thing that I did was call for a reservation and check the dress code. There's also an online reservation option. The suggested dress code is business casual, but I was told that it was not enforced. Since we were traveling in crazy wet and windy weather conditions and we had driven @2 hours to get to our destination and meet our daughter for dinner, we had dressed nice, warm, and comfortable. We had clothes that were just good enough to make the cut. We had time to tell her about the dress code, but we kept the venue a surprise! Our daughter was so excited to join us! The Uber driver got us there on time, but the venue signage was a little hard to see in such rainy weather. The inside has clean lines and design. Color changing booths were amazingly effective! 7 colors every 7 minutes. We arrived with the aqua blue color and it almost looked like a seascape or Superman's ice cave. Each color was like a different flavor accent to our senses. Our server was very personable, professional, and knowledgeable. We continued our adventure with appetizers of hot stone wagu beef and hot king crab legs. A bottle of Pelegríno water and a bottle of hot house saki. The saki had a slight sweetness, a gentle silky texture, and dissipated inside my mouth like a cotton candy like butterfly kiss. Yummmm. There was an introduction of every single delicious item that was served to include cooking instructions such as touching the wagyu beef on only one side for 10 seconds or both sides per preference. Salt, pepper, and a delicious dark dipping sauce was also served as an enhancer as preferred. This was as magically delicious as I had imagined! Soft, unctuous, and life changing! Bravo! An event just on it's on. Then these crab legs were just as mind blowing! Soft, luscious, and decked out with little bitty beads of roe and topped with spicy spicy mayo type sauce! I was not ashamed of licking all that goodness off my crab leg shell then using the shell to scoop up any of the precious bits off the plate. My husband knew that I would never forgive myself if I didn't order the Morimoto Ramen. And he was spoiling me and he ordered! The broth has so much depth and balance! It was as my daughter described " an entire Thanksgiving meal in one spoonful of broth" even to compare it to a Willy Wonka everlasting gobstopper... the noodles were so tender and perfectly chewy!!! And there was a generous amount of tender chicken! Drop the mic!! Then came an amazing dish of chef's choice sashimi and sushi! This was an absolute piece of art! Every nibble delicious! Pickled ginger and spicy wasabi also there to enhance or palate cleanse. And believe me, this is the clear your brain out type of wasabi! My husband LOVED it!! We even packed any left over wasabi for him. I agree with the other reviewers on how wonderful the fish selection is! Almost full, but wanting to continue the journey, out came the curry Katsu ! We had crunchy chicken atop of well-balanced curry! I disappeared fast. As I was pleasantly full, I got up to go washroom... I came back to a table full of side dishes like mashed potato balls, spinach wrapped up like sushi, a bowl of mushrooms, and a bowl of wasabi rice! I nibbled to sample the treasures. I could have made a meal out of the just the sides! Then there was the finale of dessert and coffee! This was decadence and indulgent... so good and unique! I was amazed by how sweet and savory could be magically arranged to make the taste buds look at Life differently! Trust me... it's a great adventure and an epic experience! Most of the appeal of this restaurant for me came from sitting at the sushi counter and watching the chef prepare everything. I'm not a huge sashimi fan, but my husband is, and he reported only good things from the seasonal selection. I really enjoyed the rolls that I chose, especially the yellowtail. The star of the show for me though, was the chicken katsu curry. We kept smelling it as it came out of the kitchen and couldn't resist. It was so warm and hearty and flavorful. I came here for my birthday and it was a wonderful experience to remember! It was straightforward to make a reservation on their website and when we came in they seated us pretty quickly. The ambiance was elegant, the restaurant and bathrooms were clean, and the service was really good and attentive. I ordered the $125 morimoto omakase and it came with 7 unique dishes. There were 1-2 dishes that I didn't like, but I appreciate the creativity in all of them and overall felt it was a decent value and ended up quite full. My boyfriend ordered a few a la carte rolls and the fish was high quality and rice soft and chewy. They also gave me a complimentary coffee jelly for my birthday and it was really good! Morimoto isn't a daily sort of restaurant but it's definitely great for celebrating a special occasion. read more

Good sushi! I split the Chef Combination for two, which was a platter of sushi, sashimi, and cuts of fish. For those of us who have a hard time deciding on even one item on a menu, this is an easy way to efficiently get a large sampling of sushi. The outdoor seating area is well spaced out, the waiter was helpful and friendly, and it was a good dining experience overall. Four instead of five stars because it seemed a bit pricy for the quality. The sushi was above average but not the most amazing sushi I've ever had, which is what I was expecting from a restaurant by a famous sushi chef. read more

I try their chicken Katsu and I expected my Katsu to be crispy. But, they served their curry sauce on top of chicken, which made the chicken soggy. The sauce was also a bit sweet than I imaged. It's relatively pricey compared to their food portion & quality because of the restaurant vibes. The service was really pleasant and the server was really nice to answer all my questions in details about their dishes. This place probably will be good for having a fancy dinner date if you value the atmosphere over the food. read more
