Great sushi and great lunch special. I come here almost entirely for the lunch special lmao. You can get either 2 rolls and a soup or salad for 10.95 or 3 rolls for 13.95. I love it. I usually get the 3 roll special and never regret it, lol. They also are really quick with making it,so their service is pretty good. The only downside of this place is the interior. It's not much of a sit-down restaurant. There is very limited seating. You're much better off ordering to-go.

I got Sumo Sushi for take out. The Sumo Sushi Special was delightful! Very flavorful and fresh. The fantasy roll was also exceptionally delicious. The scallion pancakes are not something I recommend getting for take out. I'm not sure how they are when they're fresh, but they didn't taste good at all when they made it home. Very greasy and floppy, not crisp like we were hoping. I'd be willing to try it in the restaurant for a fair review!
Business trip to Philly for a couple of days and I always find a sushi place to go. This place was close to my hotel and had decent reviews. I walked there to only find out they are only doing take out or delivery. For me not a problem. They have a QR code on the window for the menu. Ordered al la carte: miso soup, 2 hand rolls and various sushi including yellow tail, tuna, octopus and flying fish roe. Nice size pieces and everything was super fresh. Very much enjoyed it and will come back next time in town. They also prepared everything within 10 minutes.
This place had the most highly rated lunch special in Philly on Foursquare and I see why. My sushi was fresh and the portions were generous. I would definitely recommend it and will be back in the future!
Tasty sushi in a very con convenient location. Got a sushi combination for four which was plenty, as well as two soups and a salad. Very fresh fish, large but manageable pieces, and great dressing on the salad (although japanese salads are always super tiny). My favorite was the salmon, super tender and neutral, with avocado.
Shout out to this business for providing an awesome COVID-19 take away experience. We ordered online and the food was ready in 15 minutes for pickup!! I couldn't believe how quick. Just as an FYI their address changed from broad, they're now located on the corner of pine and 13th. But wow! So delicious - I ordered four specialty rolls: red dragon roll, sumo special, Sukaro, and rainbow roll. Highly recommend ALL four. Everything was delicious and very fresh. We were craving sushi and this hit the spot! Also got a standard salmon and avocado roll - which was soo delicious (the salmon literally melts in your mouth). Side note: they also included a complimentary seaweed salad this time which was the cherry on top. Definitely give this business a chance especially how kind and awesome they were when I picked up the food. Extremely appreciative and they did an amazing job having great quality food during this hard time! Will definitely order again.

Better than Fuji Mountain and Vic's Sushi. I am a traditionalist and love shrimp tempura so I literally ordered the lunch special with eel avocado roll, shrimp tempura roll and a dragon roll. All had amazingly crunchy shrimp tempura and fresh avocado - hit the spot!! I also appreciate that we arrived at 3:05 on Saturday and they still honored lunch special (which is supposed to end at 3 PM M-Sat). Workers are always on their phones and look very unhappy so I wouldn't say the waitstaff was the best but good solid sushi!
Ordered the lunch special again for delivery at work. Delivery was faster than grubhub expected (which was listed as an hour and 15 minutes..) it came after about 45 minutes after ordering. All the rolls are good, nothing mindblowing but good for your sushi fix. The rolls aren't pretty by any means, pretty sloppily put together -- but taste wise it's good. Spicy tuna was what I expected. "Yellowtail crunch" is not what I expected. Most sushi restaurants that list " crunch" mean the tempura flake, this one had slices of apple in it. It tastes fine, and good -- but it's also not chunks of yellowtail like the last lunch order I placed. It's spicy minced yellowtail with apple.. which again is fine, but misleading with the title. The shrimp tempura was one of the more messier versions I've gotten, with cucumbers falling out of the roll, that one is just OK. Miso soup saw little improvement, more seaweed this time, but I find a wopping total of 3 tofu floating around.. still skimpy. Moral of the story -- solid sushi fix for a fair price in the city, but don't get your hopes up.

My favorite place to order in sushi from! In terms of grubhub delivery, it's awesome that they deliver to Old City without charging any fee and the minimum is only $10. I have also been to the restaurant once for lunch, and it's very casual with some great lunch specials. My go-to's are usually the miso soup, spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and the sashimi appetizer. The fish is always fresh and the price is very reasonable. I've also tried some of their special rolls such as the Fusion roll and the Red Dragon roll which have been delicious, but definitely more pricey. They also have a good seaweed salad, as well as their avocado salad. Overall I've been satisfied with everything I've tried at Sumo, and I will continue to order from here!
Never a bad experience with Sumo Sushi. This time I ordered 2 orders of the Philadelphia Roll & an order of Spring Rolls. Sushi was fresh. Spring Rolls were hot & crispy. My stomach & my mood were very happy! 10/10! And fast delivery too! My favorite sushi spot in the city for sure! read more

I ordered the Sumo Special Combo and had it delivered by Grubhub. The delivery was seamless and prompt. I was impressed by the presentation especially for a take away order. The sushi is fresh and tasty. Highly recommend! read more

I had low expectations for Sumo but it delivered beyond my expectations. It's a fairly small space - maybe about a dozen tables, all within arm's length of each other. The biggest table can only sit 4 people so if you're bringing more people, it might be useful to call in advance. It's BYOB (despite the fact that they also serve beer/liquor) and no corkage fee, which is terrific. They even provided a cork for us to re-cover the wine (although it didn't fit but still, a nice gesture). We went for the Party Platter for 4 (despite that there were only 2 of us), which has California rolls, spicy tuna, unagi, Alaska roll, rainbow roll, and dragon rolls, and all for $35. Figured it was more cost-effective to order the platter than a bunch of individual rolls. I wasn't so enthused by getting California rolls with the Party Platter but we didn't have any trouble substituting those out with the similarly-priced salmon rolls. We also ordered the spider rolls, which were terrific; the softshell crab was still warm. The waitress checked on us every so often but we didn't require much attention. There were about 4 guys busily rolling sushi behind the counter. I was a little "meh" when I saw the menus -- they're laminated but a bit dog-eared and kind of falling apart. Otherwise, my experience here despite how underwhelming it initially seemed was a terrific one and I'd be happy to return. read more
Okay - this place is close to my block and only does takeout, but from what I saw of the inside the place is spotless. I always stick to my standards when trying out a new Sushi place, so I ordered a Futomaki roll and an order of Spicy Crab (Kani) salad and it didn't disappoint. The Mrs. ordered a Red Dragon & a Pine Street Roll and was very happy. I highly recommend! read more

The food is amazing!! I ordered the Sushi and Sashimi lunch platter which included 4 pieces of sushi 8 pieces of sashimi and one salmon avocado roll. It was extremely fresh even though it was delivered and they were generous with the serving. There was enough for two meals and was a very good price. read more

Everything we had was delicious, but our favorite of the night was the volcano roll with spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber, and tempura crunch. We will definitely be going back! read more

After living around sumo sushi for a few years, I suppose I should update my review. I would say this is standard level sushi- I probably would not go out of my way to come here if I didn't live near it, as there are fancier places in the city. With that said, it is the best take-out sushi in the area as far as price and quality. Sometimes they even throw in an extra roll or a side of edamame/seaweed salad. It is a complete different product and experience than if you were to go to, say, Sagami across the bridge. I still get take out from here at least once a week, and I do walk here to eat in once in a while. The staff are very attentive and nice. read more

Someone once told me sushi with slices of ginger, work like a charm with upset stomach. So, I ordered sushi for delivery. - Philadelphia and Alaska Rolls were ok. - Delivery was quick. - Fair prices. - When the delivery man arrived, I realized that unfortnatly I didn't have cash to tip him. He refused to leave until I wrote a tip on the receipt. I understand I should have checked before I placed the order. But come on, it wasn't so nice. Two and Half Yelps. read more

Found this place on Grubhub and took a chance ordering without reading yelp reviews (a first)! Delivery was fast and the food was good. I like how they have a vegetarian special roll so I can eat something besides a cucumber avocado roll. My SO enjoyed his regular rolls. The soup was big but not my favorite. A special vegetable roll, a regular vegetable roll, 2 fish rolls, and 2 miso soups came out to be $30. read more
