    Spicy Scallop Roll

Nice spot right near Washington square - if you get a window seat you can watch all the passersby. Inside is relaxed and comfy with booth/table seats, and a small sushi bar as well. Tried the sake flight with cloudy, plum, and dry. Much bigger servings than expected! Plum was smooth and sweet, all three quite nice. Chicken katsu was breaded and fried so lightly, and the chicken was moist. Perfect combo of soft and crunchy. Spicy scallop roll had a delicate sweet flavor, and just a hint of spicy mayo. The salmon roll pieces were very good cuts of fish. Tobiko (flying fish roe) wasabi roll was quite nice as a wasabi lover.

I had never heard of putting beets in/on sushi before, but it was really good! The crispy rice was yummy and I really enjoyed the guac to the future roll. The only downside is I don't live closer, otherwise I would eat here all the time! As a vegetarian, I loved that there were so many options for me!

This Market Street find popped up on my Beli app. Fat Salmon is on our list of places to go back to on repeat. The vibe of the inside is eclectic, fun, and modern with a hint of whimsy. (Check out the cool murals and artwork!). There is bar and table seating. The sushi menu had the usual sushi items but don't stop there. Try a few of their signature rolls. They are unique and shouldn't be missed. The Fat Salmon roll and the Kimchee roll were two favorites. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Sake was also good. Service was excellent. Don't pass Fat Salmon without stopping in!!

I checked this place out while in Philly and really enjoyed it! The ambiance is funky and inviting. The sushi rolls were fresh and delicious. I am a sucker for crispy rice and theirs was excellent! The service was friendly and quick, although we never felt rushed.

Didn't know what the inside of the restaurant was going to look like but I was pleasantly surprised! Such a cute ambiance perfect for date nights or girls night. The staff were all really nice as well. I made a reservation for friday at 5, but only 2 other people were there (and no one came after) so it felt silly of them to ask if I had made a rez but whatever. I ordered: Crispy rice with spicy tuna: (5/5!!) Creamy delicious tuna Beef gyoza: (1/5) Won't order again, frozen, eh-tasting gyoza and they're so tiny it's not worth it Spicy tuna roll: (5/5) So good the tuna here is exceptional Dragon roll: (2/5) This has eel in it which I typically love but some pieces tasted fishy which put me off Sushi for 1 Deal: (5/5) "Best tuna i've ever had" "Salmon nigiri was good but not the best i've ever had" "Yellowtail was eh" "Alaskan roll was great" - would probably just order the alaskan roll and tuna nigiri if i came again Side note for the business: The music was pretty annoying to both of us, maybe with more people it drowns out the noise but it was annoying rhythmic music and it just didn't match the vibe that much. Overall it was really good and i'd recommend it if you really like tuna rolls/nigiri!

Top: sashimi for one Bottom: chirashi

Overall: Will I be back? YES!! this restaurant EXCEEDED my sashimi quality expectations! Especially if u don't want to drop a bag for good quality sushi in Philly. Chirashi bowl sashimi was cut so thick (literally fat salmon), rolls were delicious and big piece of fish inside, regular bar (no speciality drinks unfortunately). Service was excellent and the ambiance was nice, a little dim for a cute date night and not loud at all. Ordered: 5/5 chirashi bowl: THIC AND I mean THICCCC pieces of fish. Quality was also superb. Also beware of spicy wasabi 4/5 sushi sashimi for 1: Alaskan roll was delicious and nigiris were yummy and fresh Wine and one small carafe of sake

Not bad but keep in mind that if you want anything other than their many kinds of signature rolls, I'd check out somewhere else. The menu has the usual appetizers of gyoza, edamame, age-tofu, but in terms of sushi, it's the signature rolls and some nigiri. I'm more of a purist when it comes to sushi, meaning just give me the fish and the rice, and don't love sauces like eel sauce or spicy mayo when there's too much of it and overwhelms everything. Which Fat Salmon uses in abundance. It's hard to see from my photo but basically, with the exception of the nigiri and one of the rolls, the other sushi was drenched in sweet soy sauce. I couldn't taste anything except that sauce. For me, it's hard to enjoy the fish when it's smothered like that. We still ate everything, though. My favorite was the sake bomb - I loved the torched salmon and tartar sauce on top. It was an interesting pairing of flavors that worked well. I was a little underwhelmed but the prices seemed fair, the portions were good, and, if you're craving Americanized Japanese sushi rolls, this would scratch the itch. They also have a decent selection of signature vegetarian/vegan rolls, which I don't really see on other sushi restaurants' menus.

First time eating at Fat Salmon and the experience was amazing! The service, atmosphere and food were awesome! The sushi was extremely fresh! This is definitely one of our favorite sushi spots now!!!

A generous serving ... but not a memorable soup

4.7 stars because .... for a restaurant of this caliber, their miso soup is weak. I'll start by saying, if you eat at Fat Salmon be prepared to spend. It's not cheap. But boy, their fish is mouth-wateringly delicious. The sushi & sashimi boat for two can actually feed three. There were four of us. We supplemented the boat with an order of seaweed salad (excellent!) salmon tataki and a dragon roll. Because it's someone's birthday this week -- I wonder who! -- they put a candle in the tempura ice cream (but I think it's a bit chintzy that the ice cream wasn't on the house.)

always great sushi every time I come here. It tastes fresh and they have some cool unique specialty rolls as well. It's pretty quiet in there and service is standard.

closest in the main part boat is the fat salmon, rainbow roll, (I forget) and Alaskan last. Spicy tuna on edges

Dined in with my husband on a random Saturday around 5:30, just walked in. There were about five or so other couples clearly on date night. We ordered the tuna crispy rice to start- was decent but not crazy. We also order 5 rolls which ended up coming out on a sushi boat which was a nice surprise! Sushi tasted fresh and had great presentation - servers were quick and we had an overall great experience! I'd go back to dine in

So delicious!!! Food was fresh and full of flavor. The crunch was my favorite. Also, the spicy mayo was probably some of the best I've had.

Had a great girls dinner last night at Fat Salmon. What I like about Fat Salmon is that there is a large vegan selection while also having a good selection for the meat eaters. Service was a little slow but we didn't mind cause we were yapping. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We ordered a few appetizers and two rolls each. I thought the crispy rice app was delicious but a little hard to eat cause each piece was so big. It had the yam and kimchi (which is vegan) and it was crunchy and tasty. We also had seaweed salad which was big enough to split between all of us. Nothing to write home about but decent enough. Our rolls took some time to come out so we worked our way through a bottle of sujo. They had a couple flavors, we tried the strawberry and peach and both were tasty. When our rolls arrived we all got out our phones cause they were so cute. I got the tofu roll and the caulimflower (???) roll. They were both delicious and came with a side of ginger and wasabi. I can't wait to come back and try more rolls because there were so many options. Loved this place for a girls night but also would be great for a date. Our bill ended up being $65 each tip which is expensive but I was full and tipsy which was just right for me. See you soon Fat Salmon!

CON: I could not find an updated menu online - I'm one of those people who like to peruse a menu in advance. I started with a vegetable tempura appetizer ($10) - excellent, light, airy, tasty. My main was the dragon roll - very tasty. Service was quite nice. Appetizers came out almost immediately, the rolls took a lot longer to get to our table. This is the kind of place where you're not paying to fill up your belly - but if you do, expect to shell out some bucks.

We were seated at the sushi bar, which ended up being one of the best parts of the night. We got to watch the sushi chefs prepare dishes up close and even chat with them a bit, which made the experience feel more personal and fun. I would recommend requesting this if you are a party of one or two. The restaurant itself has a very clean, sleek look, with mostly white decor. It feels modern and upscale without being cold. The space is large enough that it doesn't feel crowded, but still intimate enough for a nice dinner. Our server was fantastic and gave great recommendations for cocktails, sake, and dishes. I tried a sake flight and ended up not enjoying it, and he kindly brought me something else with no issue and didn't charge for the flight, which I really appreciated. The sushi was fresh, and every dish we had was seasoned perfectly. They have seasonal tasting menus if you are more adventurous. The dishes are beautifully plated. One thing though, the restaurant was surprisingly hard to find because there really isn't much signage on the entrance/door. But there's a paper lantern outside, so if you see that, you're in the right place. I had really high expectations coming here and thankfully I wasn't disappointed, although nothing completely blew me away except for the Aka Taka roll. The chirashi bowl was solid overall and had good quality cuts of fish for $52. Everything tasted fresh and balanced, but next time I think I'd personally just order the sakedon instead. The chasu bao also wasn't really worth the $14 in my opinion. It was still good, just not something memorable or mind blowing. Same with the wagyu steak, for $38, it honestly just tasted like a really good steak, and the portion was a little smaller than I expected. My favorite appetizer was definitely the miso eggplant. Such a unique combination of flavors and the eggplant was cooked incredibly soft and well. It almost tasted like a sweet potato with the miso on top, and I would absolutely order it again. But the standout of the night was easily the Aka Taka roll. For a $27 roll, I had very high expectations and somehow they were all met. The roll was stuffed with different cuts of tuna that were unbelievably soft and buttery, and there was this crunch in the middle, maybe daikon? Whatever it was, it added the perfect texture. Honestly, it's something I'd go back just for.
