Went here on one of our visits after an evening at the movies but given the late hour our choices were limited so was looking forward to going back and trying other menu items and it did not disappoint. Service was great and wait staff were warm and friendly. Sushi was very good and delicious. We were happy to go back when we had more time to enjoy more of the menu options available. This would be a great date night restaurant as it is quiet and lighting gives more intimate vibes. Would highly recommend....

Food and service is consistently top-notch for this restaurant. They did have a rocky few months last year with the new owners transition, but seems to stabilized now. The prices have increased around (20%) but so has every other industry, still a good value for the quality and service that you're getting. Small minor stuff to iron out (too much raw scallions in miso soup) and then this place will be hard to get reservations again. Most of the old servers and chefs remain and the Japanese "feel" is still there. Still the best sushi in South Jersey.

What I had: Chef's choice sushi. My benchmarks: Harutaka (Tokyo), Kusakabe (San Francisco) and Kosaka (NYC). Needless to say, I am pretty picky. I love Sagami. You can drive to the restaurant and park in their lot. Hokkaido uni was super fresh. Bluefin toro with caviar. My 5 year old loves their broiled salmon. It is BYOB so I don't have to overspend to have super premium sake with my meal. And the price is 1/2 of the "top spots in the Philadelphia area". Sure, it is not a place to see or be seen like Royal Izakaya or Hiroki. My wife wears jeans and a t-shirt going to Sagami. But if you are looking for a kid-friendly yet super high quality sushi/sashimi, Sagami gets my #1 vote and 5 stars.

Surprisingly good and not too expensive. Wouldn't get rolls again because they're small but I liked the tofu, collar, sukiyaki and tempura. Staff was nice and attentive but the restaurant was really hot

Boring and expensive food. Steak teriyaki seasoning is pretty boring, and it comes with no rice, and it costs close to $40. The veggie on the plate is just boiled veggie.. The pork skewer is kinda deceiving because it's 2 cubes of pork and 2 cubes of just plain onion lol.. and the meat is a little dry. The rolls are normal. The restaurant is too dark.

I love the ambiance at this place! The romantic dim lighting and the interior decoration definitely does not match the exterior of this restaurant. My friends and my partner ordered the chirashi which actually takes a while to come out so I would put this order in early if you already know you want this item. I got the unaju which is eel rice bowl. I had asked the waitress for less rice and surprisingly they did gave me the perfect amount of rice! I was also pleasantly surprised at how much eel was in the bento. It was delicious. My partner's favorite item from the chirashi was the scallops. We also got tempura and cold tofu to share and enjoyed all the appetizers. This is a great place for a romantic sushi date and also a great dinner spot with friends. The seatings are nicely spaced out - it wasn't too loud and it was easy to have a conversation within your group. I highly recommend coming here for good authentic Japanese food!

Fresh fish, thick cut, big restaurant with very good service. So much better than Royal Sushi Izakaya in Philly. Please everyone come here and try their fish then you would think Royal Sushi Izakaya taste like S****.

I am SOOO late in trying this place! Evidently has been serving some of the best sushi in the tri-state area for over a decade at least! Went with some friends for a bday celebration on a Friday night, no reservations and luckily got a table for 4! It got quite full by about 8pm. The owners/servers were sooo sweet. Service was exceptional. And the food?! I haven't had a sushi place blow me away like this in a very long time! Presentation, freshness and overall taste of everything was def 5 stars! I heard that one of the owners is prob 80 or so now and still making sushi at the counter! I intend on going as often as I can before he retires! And you guys should too!

We have finally found our favorite Japanese restaurant in the area. I would recommend making reservations. Everything is good and they give tea. We will be back! I ordered the seaweed salad which came with different kinds of seaweed. I have never had anything like it before. It was cool and also delicious and light! The chirashi was good too. I did notice that the chirashi bowls are made differently every time so you might not always get the exact same cuts of fish which makes it fun too!

The best authentic Japanese sushi restaurant in the Philadelphia area. The charashi bowl is a must-order. It's the freshest tasting sashimi I've ever had!! You get free hot green tea. The service can be a little slow - sometimes up to an hour for your food from the sushi kitchen. However, food from the regular kitchen doesn't take too long. If you want appetizers, I would recommend the oysters and shrimp tempura. Perfect place for a celebration where you want to spend a little extra time with people. It's also BYOB!

Try the chirashi. It's a pile of very fresh fish atop a bowl of sushi rice. We sat at the sushi bar and saw so many of those going out that I had to try one. It was really delicious. Stopped in before a concert at the nearby Freedom Mortgage Center and it hit the spot. Excellent sushi.

Definitely one of the best and more authentic sushi places I've had east of California. To be fair, I haven't had a lot of raw fish on the east coast, but I've been told for the Philly area that this place is top tier with authenticity and freshness. We didn't have time to go to NYC on this trip, but I think this place wasn't far behind some of the expensive and elite restaurants in NYC in terms of quality of fish. The decor however was dated here, but nothing against them for that. The servers were pretty friendly here and the service overall was great. We ordered several sushi combis and some side dishes/orders. Would highly recommend to make reservations if possible. We got lucky because we came right at opening, but even then they were hesitant to seat us since a bunch of reservations were already arriving and as we left, the parking lot was packed!

I have been coming to Sagami for years now. I come for any big celebration like birthdays or graduations. This is by far the best and most fresh sushi you can get in the Philadelphia area. The chirashi bowl is expensive but the most bang for your buck with all the variety you get. My favorite fish is definitely the scallop. It is SO fresh and sweet! They serve free hot green tea, if you ask. During busy times, it can take up to 1 hour to get food from the sushi kitchen, but worth the wait! Meanwhile, the regular kitchen is pretty quick. I recommend the fried oysters (huge, plump, and juicy!), tempura, or agedashi tofu. The waiters are always polite. The ambiance is homey and classy. The ceiling is quite low, so watch out! This is one of my favorite places, love it here!

Do you need a reservation for a weekday or just for weekends when it's busy?

I didn't have to make reservations on both occasions on weekday and on weekend for party of 4 when I called. However, if you have large party during prime time on weekend, I would make sure.

Does this restaurant require call in reservations for dine-in? Thanks.

I called to be sure but wasn't required and necessary. I visited on both dinner occasions on Friday and Saturday around 5pm and I was seated without wait.(party of 4)

Is it only takeout during the pandemic? No reservations are needed for pick up?

Takeout only. You call and put your order in. Once you arrive and park, you sign in on their clipboard and indicate the parking spot number. Then you get back into your car and wait for them to bring your order to you.

I am vegan and was wondering if anyone knows if i could simply get cucumber and avocado sushi here? or what would you recommend? i have a dairy allergy and do not eat meat.

The staff is pretty friendly and sure they would accommodate you.

Unfortunately my complete meal was not as complementary. My plates certainly looked great but the rice in both my entrees was not properly prepared and seasoned. The seaweed used for my roll was not crisp meaning it was either not toasted or stored properly before service to account for the humidity. The bed of rice in my Chirashi was lightly seasoned with furikake seaweed but that hardly made a difference. It was still under seasoned. The sliced fish in my chirashi was fresh, but there wasn't any difference in taste from piece to piece. No amount of soy sauce or wasabi was going to enhance my chirashi. My experience certainly did not lay claim to a "best ever" designation and I've had my share of great sushi.

As with many restaurants, they seem to be prioritizing take out over customers with reservations. We had to wade through a scrum of delivery orders and pickup, after which we could finally advance to the hostess. After a short wait, the two of us were seated. Service was polite, if a little slow. While we were promptly given menus, we had to flag down the waitress to give our orders. We ordered a number of appetizers to share which were very good and served within a reasonable time. Unfortunately, we did not have any plates and it took 5 minutes to again flag down a waitress to get some. We were then presented with 2 plates that looked like they came from a NJ diner, heavy, cheap, generic ceramic. Our nigiri arrived and saved the day. The restaurant has a wider selection than many places in the area including "reasonably priced" o-toro. The fish was fresh, firm and very good. One thing that was lacking was any artistic presentation of the fish. It was nigiri, wasabi, and ginger. Overall, I enjoyed the food, but the overall restaurant experience was lacking. I will be back however.

My husband and I made a pitstop at the Cherry Hill Mall to use the restroom and on the way in we saw Kooma, with "martini bar" in the title. We were automatically intrigued. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a very pleasant staff. Since we did not want a full meal, we opted for a seat at the bar. My husband wanted to try a drink with peanut simple syrup, but unfortunately, the beverage was discontinued. Instead, he went with an Asian style old-fashioned. It was smoked using wood chips and was presented impeccably. Loved watching our bartender burn the chips on top of the drink to create the smoke in the glass. I selected a spicy, pineapple, passionfruit martini, which looked equally as beautiful as it was appetizing. For our snack, we selected the ceviche. Perhaps we didn't read the menu too closely, because this was a sweet ceviche with mango, instead of your traditional citrusy version we are used to. It was still very tasty, but the original style is my preference. Price wise, this place is a bit more on the expensive side, but you definitely feel the luxurious ambience in the atmosphere. Can't praise the bartenders/waiters enough enough. They were so attentive and sincerely friendly, which can be hard to find.

I usually go for sushi which is very good, one of my favorites is the So Good Roll. This restaurant is located in Collingswood, right on Haddon Ave. where there a plenty of restaurants and shops so parking can be a pain sometimes. We got lucky and got a spot right out front. This recent trip was planned last minute and I used a Groupon deal (for 4 people). My kids got the Ramen (one plain & one spicy miso) and they loved it. My only complaint about the Ramen is that they charged me full price for the bowl of just broth and noodles - for a 7 year old. Anyway, it was their first time eating real ramen vs the cup of noodles we get for the house. My husband got the salmon and I got (2) rolls: OMG Roll & Kan Kasa Roll - again, we were not dissappointed. Everything was fresh and delicious. The restaurant wasn't too crowded when we arrived but it seemed like there was only one waiter working. As busy as he was, he was nice and pleasant. Another favorite of mine can be found in the appetizer section: fried shrimp in creamy sauce (#11 on the menu I believe). The sauce has a kick to it, not too spicy in case you don't like spicy food. Collingswood restaurants are mostly BYOB. We didn't bring wine this last time since it was last minute but I have brought wine before. They'll open/serve it right away. I don't think there is a limit as to how many you can bring but I guess that depends on # of ppl in your party. Will I go again? Most definitely. My kids want to go back for more Ramen; maybe I'll try that next time instead of sushi.
