Kooma was not on our radar, but it was the perfect place to take a break, enjoy a libation, and snack on an appetizer. My husband and I made a pitstop at the Cherry Hill Mall to use the restroom and on the way in we saw Kooma, with "martini bar" in the title. We were automatically intrigued. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a very pleasant staff. Since we did not want a full meal, we opted for a seat at the bar. My husband wanted to try a drink with peanut simple syrup, but unfortunately, the beverage was discontinued. Instead, he went with an Asian style old-fashioned. It was smoked using wood chips and was presented impeccably. Loved watching our bartender burn the chips on top of the drink to create the smoke in the glass. I selected a spicy, pineapple, passionfruit martini, which looked equally as beautiful as it was appetizing. For our snack, we selected the ceviche. Perhaps we didn't read the menu too closely, because this was a sweet ceviche with mango, instead of your traditional citrusy version we are used to. It was still very tasty, but the original style is my preference. Price wise, this place is a bit more on the expensive side, but you definitely feel the luxurious ambience in the atmosphere. Can't praise the bartenders/waiters enough enough. They were so attentive and sincerely friendly, which can be hard to find. read more

Kooma is a very beautiful and classy space located at the Cherry Hill Mall. I believe this was the old California Pizza location and is next to Macys. Kooma has a pretty diverse Pan-Asian menu including Japanese, Korean and Thai. Some of the menu items are Asian Fusion. There is a wide variety of Sushi also. We ordered mostly an array of appetizers. Ceviche, Tempura, Soft Shell Crabs, and Calamari. Everything was good but the standout was the Ceviche. We ordered an Udon Seafood Noodle soup to share that was also good. Kooma has a nice selection of cocktails, wine, beers and spirits if you are so inclined. Service was good but a little spotty. I believe they were a little short staffed on the Saturday night we were there. It wasn't too bad however. Kooma is amazing! And in a nice convenient location at the Cherry Hill Mall. I ate such fresh, delicate, and melt in your mouth food. The hand cut sashimi and expertly rolled sushi were presented in an aesthetically pleasing way, and I was truly impressed with this presentation. Sushi lovers, brace yourselves for this wow factor! Besides the sushi, you also need to try the soy garlic Korean fried wings. These were crispy, crunchy, and had a deliciously tangy flavor. The stone pot bibimbap is a hot rice dish that finishes cooking in front of you and is also a fabulous presentation! Enjoy listening to the sizzle of the rice and egg cooking on the burning hot stone. The seafood combo was plentiful of various bits of delicious seafood, so seafood lovers, this is for you! Our waiter recommended the pork belly, which was tender, mouthwatering and melted in my mouth! If you appreciate a nice kick to your food, the chili garlic noodles were on fire! Went to Kooma on a Monday night at 5:15 with friends from out of town. I had heard a lot about it but finally tried it. We had a reservation but it being so early on a Monday, the restaurant was no where near full and we were seated immediately. The decor is very chill, calming, and clean. Our server was very attentive and extremely personable. I asked her opinion on my drink choice (purple haze) and she said she was also the bartender so she was able to make it exactly how I wanted it. The drink was not only delicious but also beautiful. For dinner, I had the spicy Kooma Noodle with tofu. It was delicious but my only critique is that there was not enough tofu in it. I had maybe 3 or 4 small pieces in the dish. The veggies, noodles and sauce were all perfect though. One of my friends had the Kooma roll and said it was extremely fresh and delicious. I'd definitely go back. I really enjoyed the experience and it being at the mall means parking isn't too bad. read more

We decided earlier in the day to make reservations for 4 at 7pm on a Saturday night. We arrived at 6:45 and was offered to either sit at the bar (the bar was big and surprisingly pretty empty) until 7, or to be seated a little early as a table was available. We went against our typical decision to sit at the bar and elected to be seated right away. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and there were plenty of tables with ample seating. We were seated pretty close to the sushi counter so we were able to see the sushi chefs at work. Our server, who was very nice, started us with drinks. We had a Belvedere straight up with a twist, a Tito's and club, a Passionate Heat, and a Lychee Martini. The Passionate Heat, my drink, caught my eye as soon as I looked at the menu. Habanero infused vodka was calling my name and it was shaken with passionfruit juice, pineapple juice and lime and garnished with a jalapeño. Perfect balance of heat and sweetness for anyone who likes a little spice in their life. My fiancés Lychee Martini was also very good. After our round of martinis we decided to split a bottle of pear sake, chilled, which was very enjoyable with our sushi. The menu is so big and everything on it sounded great. We decided to start with Rock Shrimp which were the best I've ever had. Both lightly battered and fried, and coated with the perfect amount of spicy mayo. We also split the beef bulgogi which was stir-fried in a delicious marinade with carrots, scallions, and onions. My fiancés mom ordered Chicken Teriyaki which she really enjoyed. Both the bulgogi and teriyaki were served with a side of rice. Lastly we ordered a selection of specialty rolls and a spicy tuna roll. All of the rolls were huge and all of the fish was fresh. We had a Bruce Lee roll (which was my favorite) that had salmon, yellowtail, spicy tuna, and avocado. The Wilk Roll had very tender filet mignon, asparagus, avocado, and was topped with pickled red onion that perfectly complimented the filet. And a Forever Love roll which was tuna and crab. We loved the food and the drinks were very good. The portion sizes and quality of food definitely coincide with the menu prices. It was nice to try a newer place we've never been and I'm sure we'll be back after our experience tonight. read more

This place looks very modern and sleek with a lot of dark wood and modern chandeliers. Service perhaps is almost too good- we had 3 people come over and had to check drink orders twice. Also we got the wrong sushi order- BUT they immediately comped and corrected it with apologies! For me this place is a splurge, a special event occasion spot. But they had people enjoying the happy hour in the bar area for quite awhile (why don't they put info on that on their website?) My margarita was strong but only all right in flavor. The sushi was indeed delicious and filling with a good variety to select from and a true sushi bar if you want to eat solo. To call this place a western movie set of a restaurant would be generous. When I stepped into the cheap turning doors of this overly sterile smelling faux korean establishment I could immediately assume only the worst. The place seats what has to be over 150 people, with decor that screams of some hands off owner / investor's idea of a trendy asian fusion spot pulled from pinterest or tumblr, except they missed the mark by about 12 years. The entire restaurant was empty, though to be fair it was a Wednesday. The sushi chefs were standing behind the line looking utterly bored and uninspired, and the hostess was nice enough. TVs decorated the top of the bar, which had a sad selection of spirits for a place that boasts of being a "Martini Bar". We were presented with two too many menus, one standard, one special, one sushi (which was entirely printer paper) and one drink. Our table was uneven, as was multiple others, giving their hand away with not so skillfully tucked napkins under their legs. The menus by the way, were entirely AI generated. The food pictures were the likes of NYC (I live in Brooklyn) bodega signs, some machines idea of what food could be if it was real but entirely uniform and artificial. I mean how do you spend what I would assume is millions in capital on a restaurant and cheap out on the menus? The font looked as if someone chose it if it cost money to pick one, and they clearly went with the cheapest option. The prices, which we noticed as soon as we approached the hostess stand that had specials posted, were astronomical and clearly just passing the cost of overhead onto the consumer, which if most people realized how often this happened, would not be going out to eat nearly as often. Let me also tell you, this is about the only god damn time I have ever been thankful for American tipping culture. Our server took forever to give us water, switched out our glasses, took our drink orders, which took entirely too long for a restaurant that had one other top occupied in the entire place. My fellow diner's G+T came almost entirely luke warm. We ordered, our food came out of order, first two out of three of our appetizers, then my sashimi which did not inspire confidence in me in the Cherry Hill seafood scene. Our gyoza had freezer burn marks on it. Did I mention it cost $12? Teokbokki that miraculously did not have the bounce or chewiness that even store-bought teokbokki has or any other type ive ever had from anywhere else. This was followed by an almost twenty minute period in which I had to ask the server if I could please have the other roll of sushi I ordered about 35-40 minutes ago. I forgot to mention also that when asked what was the difference between the gyoza on the regular mention and the Korean dumplings on the almost completely illegible "special" menu our server had almost no idea and said "they're the same thing, one is just in Japanese and one is in Korean". At one point we could hear the server arguing with the hostess about over hiring in the restaurant, and understaffing for that night specifically. The prices here were prices I would normally see at a place in NY or Brooklyn, but in those places the food would be up to par to pay those prices, and the wait staff and ambience would be something not out of a post modernistic capitalist nightmare. I could, through spending a little over a very painful hour in this establishment, clearly see someone with significant capital who saw an opportunity to take advantage of both the growing Asian population in Cherry Hill and unsuspecting individuals who did not know better by charging unreasonable prices for sysco freezer burnt garbage and extremely mid grade fish presented in a way that showed a very clear limited understanding of the food itself. When presented with the check, multiple things were overcharged, and my one Sapporo was missing entirely. A generous 10% was added to the bill. This place is representative of the strip-mall hellscape and everything that is wrong with people who see restaurants as a soulless vessel with the singular purpose of turning profit and I guess building a portfolio of inevitably failed food service businesses. One should never leave a restaurant feeling cheated or underserved, but that is about the only thing this place seemed to have achieved successfully. read more

Amazing food and ambiance! We loved our sushi and nearly everything we ordered was amazing. The rock shrimp appetizer was so good, it is a must order for us going forward. The only thing we did not like was the yakitori. The drinks were amazing and the chicken teriyaki was cooked perfectly. We cannot wait to eat here again! Our second experience was not as great as the first, but we still had some good dishes. The yaki udon was very good. We did not care for the edamame or the steamed gyoza. The food was good, but the service was horrible. The manager had to correct our order multiple times, we waited 30 minutes for our drinks, water had to be asked for multiple times and we were charged wrong by about 40. Our waitress constantly blamed others, but other tables were perfectly fine so I don't see how the bar or kitchen was at fault. The manager offered to comp us our next meal and to ask for him by name. This was kind, but it felt like we should've been likely comped this meal, and since we don't have any written document we kinda just have to hope he is there. If our next experience does work out and is better, I will update and give a higher score, but for now I can only review off my experience. read more

First time dining at Kooma. Very impressed! We tried a variety of things from rock shrimp, scallops appetizer, California roll, to miso salmon and spicy noodles with shrimp, everything was fresh and beautifully presented. Service was friendly! The atmosphere was loungey/club-like, which was the only thing we didn't love. A little more vibrancy and pops of color would liven up the place and make it more inviting than the all black, grey decor. We will be back. read more

For a weekend night, it's best to make a reservation on Open Table. When I got there, several parties ahead of me did not have a reservation which made it a little more difficult for the hostess as she had to check seating. We were seated immediately close to the sushi bar so we could see them making the rolls. Our waitress, Skylar came over right away and asked if we had ever been here before and asked about drinks. We have been there once before but my one son had never been. We usually don't order drinks when we go out so we had our water which Skylar filled throughout the night. We ordered apps right away. We got the Short Rib BBQ Buns and Rock Shrimp which were both very delicious. My two sons ate the shrimp really fast and kept saying this is really good. The bar area had a couple tv's and my son had asked if ESPN could be turned on. It took a while but eventually came on. Our entrees were all tasty as we finished every last bite. We had Spicy Pork Stonepot Bibimbap with egg and veggies, Bulgogi, Spicy Kooma Noodle with Beef, Shrimp Pad Thai, Black Belt Roll and Hawaiian Roll. My fiancé and I went to Kooma tonight after receiving two recommendations recently from close friends. First, let me start off by saying we had an INCREDIBLE experience. The customer service was top notch from the moment we walked in the door. The manager, Ted along with our female server (also the bartender) were extremely attentive to us the entire time. They were so kind and genuine and gave great recommendations for different options on the menu. We had wonderful conversations with both of them. Second, the food was SO fresh and delicious. The food came out promptly, and in the order in which we requested. We were honestly so blown away by how well Ted and his staff took care of us, that we had to make sure they get the credit they deserve. We also wanted to inform everyone else that if they haven't been to Kooma, please go! You will have a dynamite meal with top notch service! Everything about this place ROCKS!! I had a going away party for a coworker and the list of people that were attending kept changing as we were checking in.
