    Chicken Teriyaki
    Linette S.

Came at 6 PM on a weekday for an early dinner. We were the only people here when we arrived, but the place started to pick up by the time we left. I'm deducting a point for service. While the gentleman was very nice, I had to flag him down in order to get any service. Food: I had the chicken teriyaki dinner, which also came with a miso soup. The chicken teriyaki was delicious. My friend had the sushi combo and said the fish had a fresh taste.

Good Chirashi! A nice sampling of fish is included with the Chirashi. Each time I've had the Chirashi there are no less than 8-9 different selections on the plate. The Fatty Tuna that is included with the Chirashi is definitely the star and sooo melty. I sometimes request modifications to my order which they do honor. The seasoned rice is sometimes a hard and under seasoned for my taste but that hardly is the big story here. The Sushi and Sashimi deluxe is also quick filling. You really can't go wrong with either. Service is very efficent and personable. For a week night dinner I'm usually in and out quickly which is great. Outdoor seating is available and is lighted but not heated. One negative, Parking is darn near impossible nearby. You need to circle for a bit to find a spot.

Best sushi I have had in such a long time. The quality of the fish here was phenomenal. Uni from japan, King Salmon form New Zealand, and the most amazing Tuna selections presented in their tasting. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. Our server recommneded her favorite ... the crispy rice sushi special, which turned out to be a great choise. The sushi rice was crispy and had a whole nother level of flavor to an already delicious spicy tuna roll. Can't wait to return.

Crab Wonton, of course. Ate three before realizing I needed to share their glory.

It's obligatory that I tell you to order the crab wantons. They are handmade and, I shit you not, the BEST crab wontons I've had in my life. Do you know how many sub-par wontons I had to eat before finding these? Far too many. If I lived in Philly, I'd have them twice a month until I died and then serve them at my funeral. Atmosphere was cozy, warm and inviting. The waitstaff were friendly and made sure we were topped up on tea while waiting for food to arrive. Each part of our meal was delivered in a timely manner and we stuffed ourselves on sashimi, sushi rolls and c r a b w o n t o n s. Seriously, order them. Savor them. You'll thank me later.

This place was perfect for a date night with my partner! Not crowded at all (we went at 7 on Saturday night) and not too loud. Everything we got was truly amazing- we especially loved the crispy rice tuna roll- truly 10/10. Most places will give you 2-4 pieces of spicy tuna on crispy rice, but this was whole role for the same amount. The other rolls were also delicious. Service was fine. Will definitely be coming back!

Food was pretty good! Very fresh sushi. The service was quick and the servers were very nice! It's not the best sushi Philly has to offer, but not bad if you're in the area!

I was craving some sushi in NoLibs and this was on the top of the list. I walked in on a Sunday evening with my partner and were seated promptly. Food:5/5 I really enjoyed all the dishes I ordered. The Bluefin Tuna Tester was amazing and very fresh. I was happily surprised by the amount of pieces. I ordered the Sushi & Sashimi combo which was great but, I need a side bowl of sushi rice to satisfy myself. I will get the Chirashi next time. My partner enjoyed their Sushi Combo but, my lactose intolerant limited my availability to have dessert here. Service + Ambiance: 4/5 The service was okay. We seated given menus and needed some time to review but, wanted to start with the bluefin sampler. After that order, our server didn't come back so, we had to stop the male owner to place the rest of the order. Instead of water in a cup, we were given Kirkland water bottles for drinking. Not a great view on a date. But, our food came promptly and we were happy. All in all, I would definitely go back. The owners are clearly knowledgeable of their craft and the service was good. However, the water bottle were alittle tacky and killed the mood.

Food is fresh and it's BYOB which is always great! I've only done outside dinning and can't remember the inside to well, but it was rather no frills from what I recall.

I came here with a friend for a late night bite & we were not disappointed. It was a nice night, so we opted for outdoor dining. Everything was fresh and flavorful. We had the seaweed salad & rock shrimp tempura as starters. Both tasted very good. Then we had a dragon roll, spicy tina toll and a shrimp tempura roll. I wasn't a huge fan of the cream cheese on top of the roll, but that's just me. It still was delicious. The outdoor seating area has a canopy so you feel a little shielded, which made it kinda cozy. I wish I would have remembered to take more pictures. I would definitely return.

Honestly, I hardly give out fives but this place deserves it. I went here for dinner with my friend who was visiting from California. Both he and I are from pretty big cities with extensive omakase/high quality sushi experiences. Since it was kind of a special occasion, my friend and I splurged and got the blue fin tuna sampler (8 pieces of bluefin tuna for 44 dollars). Although it was a bit expensive compared to the other things on their menu, it was definitely worth it and the tuna was omakase quality. We also got two of their hand rolls, Alaska and spicy scallop which were also yummy. We also got the fishtown roll which had shrimp tempura in it that was also good. One thing I will say is that the rice was a little bit on the drier side which was a little disappointing, but everything else about this place is so great that it still deserves five stars! The place is family owned and the chef/owner even came up to us and asked us how our food was and he proceeded to go to every table and ask how everyone's food was. The service was really great, the food was great, and the prices were reasonable as well. Also this place is BYOB (there's also a fine wine and goods like a five minute walk from the restaurant if you want to pick up booze) which is definitely an added plus!

Absolutely AMAZING! From beginning to end Hikari was flawless. The staff, the sushi, and the efficiency. We made an early dinner reservation, picked up some sake and headed for Hikari. When we arrived our table was already set, they brought us out some water, along with Sake cups which was a nice touch. Started with some apps: edamame, sea weed salad and a round of spicy yellowtail hand rolls. All delicious and made fresh. Everything came out very fast and with a beautiful presentation. One memorable aspect of any sushi experience is how beautiful it looks. Our eyes lit up as they placed roll after roll on the table in front of us. Some of my favorites were: Spicy Yellowtail Handroll NoLib specialty roll (must try!!) Dragon Roll Hikari Make sure you finish off with some desert, the Mochi ice cream was the perfect touch of sweet we needed. Little by little we ordered more sushi, and I think we did a total of 16 rolls for the three of us. The staff was impressed with us but we were more impressed with them. Not only were they quick, but they were all so friendly. In my opinion they understand the meaning of customer service and what it takes. There is a difference between a server and a GREAT server. They nailed it! Thank you Hakari and I will be seeing you again soon!

literally best vegetarian / vegan sushi in the city…read more okay to start, if your friend/date/family member is vegetarian or vegan, take them here. you both will have options. inside is cozy. service is really thorough and like a well oiled machine. for the vegetarians: The lime sinko roll is a classic avocado cucumber roll with a pickled vegetable layer on top and a thin slice of lime. the roll itself is great, simple, and a classic. my sister really likes the pickled vegetable and lime on top. I however, just peel it off. it's good but I prefer without it. the veggie on fire is what you need: probably their best roll on the menu. it's a cucumber avocado roll with a spicy zucchini sauce on top and crispy fried onions. it's messy. it's spicy. it's delicious. the sauce is orange in color, has tiny slivers of zucchini in it. I was hesitant to try it at first, but it's my favorite roll now. the vegan tuna roll: it's marinated tomato in place of tuna. i've never had fish or tuna, but it definitely tastes a lot more fishy. I guess that's the marinade. texture is kinda slimy? mushy? I feel like this might be the roll for someone who liked the taste of fish but went vegan and wants a replica. Not for me, but well made nonetheless. Appetizers The veggie gyoza: the gyoza itself is green, doesn't taste different to a non green dough, but visually that might matter to some people. sauce they serve on the side is very good. comes with a lot, at least 6 I think. tastes good. I don't recall any mushrooms in it and if there is they are not noticeable as i'm not the biggest fan of mushrooms. The Spring rolls: new to the menu, no meat, interesting? they are more soft inside than expected. not a lot of veggies. tiny. cute little app to share and try. they come with two. no mushrooms. I typically prefer a more veggie heavy and crispy spring roll but i'd order them again! Samosa: currently off the menu I think, but in case they add it back, this was very good. i'd order this over the spring rolls. they were crispier and I think it came with three. Miso Soup: it's a fine little bowl of miso. I typically always order miso at every Japanese restaurant to start my meal. i'm not picky about miso, but I will say, it's not my favorite miso. I still order it every time, just not the absolute best i've had. It has small little tofu chunks and some green leafs which I find are in most misos but I have no idea what they are. small little bowl. perfect to order first. edamame: very good I always order in the beginning and I have a bad habit of also ordering another for dessert. the veggie bun: I don't like mushrooms, but if you do you will love this. my sister loves it. it's not often there is a vegetarian option for a bun, so i'd get it. the sauce on it is very good. comes with two. Karaage: This is chicken, but my dad gets it and it looks very good and crispy. if I ate meat i'd order this. avocado salad: okay so the ginger dressing is a little different than typical ginger dressing which I like. it's unique and very good. the amount of avocado is amazing! it has to be a whole avocado. always fresh. the green leafs are a little big, so this can get messy fast if you're on a date and trying to be demure. this is a must order for three people in my family. every time we go it's three orders clock work. I tried sharing with my sister and we determined we cannot share this. honestly bigger than I expected and more filling than I expected. has some cut up tomato's and cucumbers inside as well. mochi: must get. one order is one mochi cut in half. so two people could share one mochi order. i'm team chocolate, but I heard strawberry is good. I think I tried all of their flavors but honestly can't remember them. I'll update as I try more of the vegetarian/vegan rolls

The toro was also a standout, although how can you go wrong with toro, uni, and caviar? The wagyu dog itself was great, but the roll it was on was dry. In my opinion, the bread makes or breaks a sandwich, so points off for that one. The ambiance was cozy, if a little dark at times. While there isn't a formal coat check, there are designated racks where you can store clothing and belongings. The restaurant shares a space with Almanac, its upstairs cocktail bar. Despite being catered as a social atmosphere, I never felt that its presence (or playlist) disrupted my dining experience. There's service staff moving about the stairwell behind the Ogawa counter, but I felt you can still clearly hear and immerse yourself with the chefs during the meal. I visited with my partner for their Midweek Omakase Experience, which provides an abridged four set, 16-course meal perfect for a date night. This particularly stood out to me, since it's a $250-per couple offering that makes it more affordable and welcoming for veteran diners or first-time omakase enjoyers. The Food Breakdown: First Set (4.5/5) - The appetizer dishes were a great start to our meal. I thoroughly enjoyed the selections of cuts with the pickles on the second plate. The scallop was also seasoned incredibly well, and the brush of soy helped elevate each bite. Second Set (5/5) - Flavors from the chawanmushi helped warm the palette, especially with the chutoro of the bluefin tuna presented in this course. I felt that this set had the greater diversity of textures between bites, which made savoring it more worthwhile. Third Set (4/5) - Miso soup was a great start before we were served delicious otoro cuts of fish. The portion sizes were also excellent, and Chef Andy did a fantastic job describing each bite in full detail. My only note was that I felt the handroll sizes were very slightly inconsistent in their filling. Fourth Set (5/5) - All of the desserts were delicious and light, which made for an excellent closer to the meal. While traditionally omakase ends with a tamago-style dessert, we were also provided a vanilla ice cream and homemade chocolate to round out our experience. Chef Andy was welcoming, knowledgeable at every step of our meal, and demonstrated a clear passion in his preparation of each bite. It was a great and affordable experience for an omakase!

That being said, it was expensive for what it was. We came in a large group, some of them being particularly excited that they offered gluten free ramen. However, I don't think any of us expected to pay what we did. Philly is a city with SO many food options, so if I want good food at a cheaper price, I think I'd pass on Morimoto again. Side note. Very interesting lighting fixtures at the tables.

The first impression was not especially auspicious. The restaurant is tucked away in the basement beneath a building on Walnut Street in Philadelphia, and at first glance the menu prices gave me pause. But from the very first bite, every doubt completely disappeared. The sushi was absolutely extraordinary -- some of the best I have ever had anywhere. I ordered the 9-piece tasting menu with uni for $68, and every single piece of nigiri was exquisite. The fish practically melted in my mouth, with outstanding freshness, texture, and flavor. Each bite felt carefully crafted and perfectly balanced. The service was equally impressive. The staff was warm, cheerful, attentive, and made the entire experience feel welcoming and relaxed. I arrived toward the end of the evening, so the restaurant was pleasantly quiet, which made the meal even more enjoyable. This was truly a memorable dining experience. Every course was exceptional, and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates outstanding sushi. My only regret is that it is so far from where I live, because otherwise I would return again and again.

Their happy hour is 5-7pm and always a great deal - at the bar only. It's downstairs but doesn't feel like a basement. Ambiance is ok. But don't let that deter you. I took my wife and MIL today and we enjoyed the happy hour. I recommend you give it a try.
