I can't speak for how it is as a bar, but on checkout they had the water the breakfast room was lacking. The breakfast room was otherwise full with all the staples - eggs, cheese, coffee, etc. Except cold water. The room was very clean - I stayed in a long, and although the bed was a little high, was pretty comfortable. I prefer a firmer mattress. There was a couch and table for dinner, and the TV had a reasonable amount of cable channel. There was also a coffee machine in room. Bathroom was also clean with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Like all hotel showers, the hot and cold was not intuitive. Also it had plenty of towels for just me.

This is what happens when good hotels franchise their operations out to angry and untrained people who are too lazy to do their jobs. This guy is a problem waiting to happen. Update (2025): I…read morefirst stayed at Crescent Suites years ago while visiting my sister at Brandeis University, and honestly, I didn't fully appreciate how good this place was until I revisited my notes. Now that I've had more travel experience, I can confidently say this hotel is a hidden gem in Waltham. The apartment-style rooms are fantastic--spacious, clean, and equipped with full kitchens, comfy seating areas, and all the essentials. It's more like staying in a cozy apartment than a standard hotel, which makes solo trips, family visits, or longer stays feel effortless. The service is genuinely warm and welcoming, and the breakfast is a standout--custom-made eggs cooked to order and expertly crafted coffee that beats any run-of-the-mill hotel fare. The location is great too--close enough to Brandeis University for visiting students, but also easy to explore Waltham's Moody Street for restaurants, cafés, and a little local charm. The area felt safe and walkable, and for outdoor enthusiasts, you can hop on nearby trails along the Charles River or Mass Central Rail Trail for some scenic exercise. Bottom line: Whether you're visiting Waltham for school, family, or just a weekend getaway, Crescent Suites hits all the marks. If I ever find myself back in the area, I won't think twice about staying here again.

I let the owner know, but did not receive a response. My biggest complaint, however is that they decided not to serve breakfast without telling us. I happened to inquire as to the time frame for breakfast at 8pm and was told that because she and her husband were in their 70's they didn't want to interact with guests. It was a little late at that point for me to make other arrangements for breakfast and to be able to stay until check out to enjoy the room the next morning. It would have been very easy for them to provide individual breakfast items to the rooms as other Inns are doing during this time. I did see and speak with the husband in the morning providing breakfast for the horses so I know they were not ill themselves. There was no excuse to not provide breakfast and especially not to let us know. I would expect more from an Inn of this caliber.

Off of Route 2A on Lexington Road in the heart of Minutemen country, I arrived at the Hawthorne Inn, my favorite bed and breakfast in Concord, Massachusetts. The owner of the inn, Marilyn, greeted me at the entrance and showed me to my room. The inn is furnished with furniture, art, and artifacts that are representative of colonial New England of the 19th Century with other kinds of art, such as Japanese ukiyo-e prints, Haitian voodoo masks, and 17th Century Persian helmets, scattered about here and there. Walking into my room, I noticed a cat on the 4 poster bed in my room. She was friendly and didn't seem to mind me hanging out with her. http://static.px.yelp.com/photo/gsDWbndD_Nix9s_MOTuYYQ/l The room had teal wallpaper, lots of folk art, a love seat near the roll away desk, and a rattan reading chair by the bed. It was very comfortable, very cozy. I hung out in my room with the cat for a while before going out to downtown Concord for dinner. After dinner I sat in the sitting room downstairs where the fireplace was blazing and I met some of the other guests in the inn. We talked some more in the morning when we ate breakfast in the communal dining room together. Breakfast included your choice of coffee, tea, muffins and other baked goods, a seasonal fruit plate, yogurt, or granola. Rooms at the inn range from $125 - $325 per night depending on the season. After breakfast, I went into downtown Concord to look for an essay by Ralph Waldo Emerson, Self-Reliance, which I found in a book in my room. In the essay Emerson emphasizes the importance of avoiding conformity and trusting in our own ideas and instincts: "Trust thyself, every heart vibrates to that iron string...." This spirit of individuality and the belief that there is no problem that we can't handle if we apply ourselves to the solution is what attracts me to New England, to Concord, to the Hawthorne Inn. There's a sense of history there where our country was essentially founded, a creative energy burns there also where so many creative thinkers and writers lived. Walden Pond, the Minutemen Park, the old North Bridge where the "first shot heard round the world" was fired are all in Concord. It's worth visiting to remember that "Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principles."

But i am sure that this was a truly beautiful facility! The brutalist mid-century architecture was stunning, and I found a few buildings with a similar style across the beautiful campus. Half of the rooms had lake views, and all rooms had views of the beautiful fall foliage. The Club was right on the path through campus and around the lake, which took about an hour to walk [briskly] around. The rooms themselves retained their original mid-century charm, including a brick interior wall, a built-in wood shelving/closet feature, period accurate furniture (I'm a bit of a mid century design snob), and some original 50s/60s style bathroom tile. The room had plenty of space and a comfortable king sized bed, although many of the people I was with mentioned having small, twin sized beds in their rooms. The meeting facilities were also beautiful, with incredible views from the floor-to-ceiling windows. There were multiple room options of varying sizes, in addition to numerous service packages, from beer/wine, to buffet, to snacks and drinks. We had several meals in the Club, all of which were excellent. The New England fare included clams, mussels, and clam chowder, which I particularly enjoyed. Even the lunch sandwich buffets were excellent. I found breakfast to be a bit lacking, but I'm not a big hot breakfast person anyways, so just a bagel was sufficient for me. Staff in the Club were beyond friendly and professional. I truly felt like I was staying in a 5* resort due to the staff's hospitality. I can't say anything about value for the cost because I'm not sure how much the space costs to rent or stay overnight, but rest assured you will get a beautiful space with top-notch service when using the facilities at this Club.
