This is such a cute and relaxing place to spend a weekend afternoon! My parents live in the housing complex right next door so we strolled over to check out their $10 wine tasting. We both opted for the red wine tasting and appreciated the variety. There were one or two I didn't like as much, but I loved being able to taste such different wines. We also decided to splurge and share the white wine tasting. I loved their Rose and one of their white wines. We ended up buying a bottle of the Red Syrah and White Fiano as gifts for friends. What really took this place up from 4 to 5 stars was house hospitable and kind the staff was! Dana in particular was so warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in, asking how we ended up in Morgan Hill and congratulating us on our recent job offers. She even brought out some complimentary champage because she was so happy for our recent life changes! I have lived in the south AND the midwest, two places known for hospitality, but have never had a better experience with hospitality than here at MHC. Can't wait to come back and try more wines while I am chilling in "MoHi" for a few more weeks! read more

The main tasting room is inviting and there are a lot of things to buy in their gift shop. We selected red and white wine flights to share and taste everything available. We chose to do our tasting out on the garden patio. Once we got out there my first impression was of neglect and sadness. I hoped it wasn't going to be a reflection of the wines we'd be tasting. Unfortunately it was. All were bad, some worse than others. The "champagne" had no bubbles. We noticed this before we began our tasting. They all tasted like they came from bottles that had been opened weeks before being poured for our tasting. My fiancé asked if they had tasted the wines that morning to QC, and the tasting room hostess said she had. She either has no clue what the wine should taste like or she lied. Maybe both. We heard that this winery has been changing hands frequently and that in the past had produced good wine. I will keep my fingers crossed that who ever is the current owner will be able to turn this winery around. In the meantime I couldn't in good conscience recommend anyone making time to taste here. read more

This little winery is an absolute gem! The property is gorgeous, the staff is friendly, the wines are delicious, and the gift shop is stocked with some very fun and unique items. They carry a wide variety of wines. When we went they had 3 different tasting menus available- reds, whites, sweets. Our party got one of each and all found something we loved. read more

Lisa is just as beautiful as the cherry wine She sold me. I spoke with her 3 times on the phone before driving up to visit the winery. I ordered a case of 1/2 cherry and 1/2 blackberry wine. When I arrived the case was waiting for me. I asked I'd I could taste some of the other wines and what the cover charge is? She said the charge is a smile and good conversation. I laughed and was more than willing to oblige her. They let you try 6 different wines of your choice. (about 12 oz, more than enough) I tried the fruit wines as those are my favorite. They have a big outdoor back area that they allow you to bring your own food, drink wine and have a picnic. Before I left I asked Lisa if I could take her pic and put it on yelp? She said if I had know I would have done my hair up today, then laughed. Great winery, great people working there and great wine. What more can you ask for? read more

The sad little winery.. the winery is suffering from the heat and wear and tear... the inside tasting area had great nick necks wine stuffs. The outdoor garden is suffering from neglect and the were several dead plants.... So looking through to the other side toward the wine... in hope of phoenix rising... yeah no... the wine was old... bad... corked... complete Oxidation. When ask if the wine was tasted this morning I was told yes .... And that would be impossible considering the champagne had no bubbles and I gagged on most the wine. read more

Free tasting of about 15 wines. I'm glad this winery offered a good variety of wines. I really liked the whites and the champagne. Some of the ports and reds were good, but some were too sweet or too dry. There are several fruit wines that you choose one to mix with champagne. I chose the raspberry, but it was too sweet for my taste. I was sad it mixed in with my champagne. There are picnic tables in the backyard with some nice vegetation and decorations. Property is sort of small. Staff here was talkative and friendly. I would like to come back to picnic and get a glass or two to enjoy here next time. read more

We recently visited Morgan Hill Cellars for a private event on a very hot day. Fortunately the outdoor patio was shaded by trees and screening so we were comfortable. There is a nice gift shop located in the tasting room with various wine themed items, and plenty of parking. Wine prices are very reasonable--$20 for my bottle of Fiano, a nutty and textured white with honeyed notes. Marina was very helpful and pleasant when making our purchase. Love the Fiano and Morgan Hill Cellars and will be back for more. read more

A bit of history first: The winery was founded in 1913 in Morgan Hill, with 80 acres of vines. In 1945 the property was purchased by John and Eda Pedrizzetti. They were a successful winery with case producting exceeding 50,000. However, a heavy frost in the winter of 1979 damaged the vineyards so badly that the family decided to stop farming, sell off the vineyards and purchase grapes from other growers. Their tasting room caught fire in 1996 creating massive damage to the winery (which was rebuilt at a cost in excess of $2 million). In 2006 the winery was sold to the current owners and renamed Morgan Hill Cellars. The rebuilt tasting room is beautiful and described perfectly in Shirley M.'s review. It looks older than 17 years yet is also charming with tapestries and other knick-knacks for sale. There is an outdoor area (rented for weddings and events) where the tasting room worker said you can bring a picnic and stay as long as you want. The winery's offerings are all over the map but inexpensive with the highest topping out at only $26.00. I liked the Chardonnay (which I bought two bottles of) and the Santa Clara County Merlot plus the Santa Clara County Syrah/Cabernet blend. They make sparkling wines, ports and fruit wines too but those were not to my taste. However I know many other locals who enjoy them. Service was chatty and friendly and again with that cool, unpretentious vibe that more wineries should pursue. Don't make wine "exclusive", again, it's just a beverage; have some fun with it. We rolled into the gravely parking lot of this unassuming winery on a drizzly, cloudy Saturday with a party of 9. We hesitated before coming inside, but upon entering, we were immediately made at home by Lisa, the most *amazing* human being to ever grace a tasting counter. Varietals become people with complex personalities, vintages become memories in your subliminal existence. Questions are enthusiastically and helpfully answered. Why can't Napa be more like this?! If you're not spitting out the wine, you're probably going to get hammered. Tastings are free, plentiful, and strong. Like, 6-tastings-of-port strong. I didn't sober up until the next day - lightweights beware. Aside from a solid buzz, this winery truly does offer something for everyone. The dudes in our party finally got excited at this winery - smokey syrahs, rich, bourbon-y ports, delicious fruit wines. If you have a friend who isn't yet a wine convert, bring them here. I left with 750 ml of the Black-Label Port (a huge bottle, for port) for $26, and the Marionberry Fruit Wine (perfect for a nice spritzer) for $11. On our way up to San Jose, we saw some signs for this winery and decided to be adventurous and check it out. Turns out they do free tastings for your choice of 8 wines. We were helped by Lisa, a personable and witty lass, who had a story for every wine she poured! I haven't acquired a taste for wine yet, especially reds, but hubby had a couple of fruity wines poured out and those were delightful. The wine counter takes up the right side of the room and the left side is a lovely gift shop. We stopped by here in the early afternoon, so we were the only guests there at the time, and we loved the company and undivided attention. Lisa and her colleague were kind enough to suggest fun things to do in the San Jose area, which we totally did. We ended up going home with 3 different bottles, one of them was the Loganberry wine, which was sweet and light. I'd recommend their fruit wines to anyone who might still be in that introductory phase of wine tasting; it's a good place to start. read more

Love this winery! My friend and I swung by after going to the Gilroy Outlets (well, let's be honest, we went to the Gilroy outlets because they were close to the winery, not the other way around). We were greeted warmly by lady at the tasting counter (unfortunately forgot her name!) and she explained to us that we get 8 free wine tastings (8!!), and recommended the order that we go in. My friend and I like sweet wines, so we started off with the Riesling, followed by their white zinfandel (ok, the lady seriously has amazing story to introduce you into it. Hint: watermelon), the cherry blossom cabernet, the fruit wines, and the ports. My favorites (as indicated by the bottles I brought home) were the White Zinfandel and the Black Label Port, whereas my friend grabbed the Pear Wine and the White Zinfandel. I personally thought the fruit wines were a tad too sweet, but I did appreciate the plum wine, which reminded me a bit of mulled cider. Again, the lady at the tasting counter is very fun to talk to (we had this entire discussion about Marvel and Avengers: Age of Ultron) but if it gets busy and you want to enjoy the wine outside, there's a lovely outside area. Decent wines, but not a place where you can expect to lounge around too long. Tasting are in fact free, so that's always a plus! It's usually pretty quiet around there, so you don't have to expect a big crowd or wait a long time to get your wine. They do have an outdoor seating area lined with picnic benches for you to take your wine outside to enjoy the weather on a sunnyday. After tasting their wines, my boyfriend and I thought their prices and wines were reasonable (mid shelf, avg. 12-15) so we are currently members at their winery. Some of personal favorites are the White Zinfadel, Zinfadel, the Cherry Port (great for cooking too if you don't mind pour a bit of that expensive port into your food!) , and their fruit wines (mainly pear and pomegranate.. everything else is a bit too sweet for me). The wonderful lady there recommended and let my boyfriend and I try the fruit wines mixed with champagne, and it was really good! Definitely made the fruit wines less sweet, and added the extra bubbly element to it. Almost tasted like a fruity soda. Since it does come in our shipments, everytime I serve their fruit wines, it's always with champagne now. =) However, the wine that tops is all here is the Cherry Cab. It's so unique! It's definitely not as dry as your normal Cabs, drinks smoothly, and the fruits are more noticeable in this cab than the others. I would recommend everyone to try this wine just because it's so different from anything else I've had. read more

I'm definitely a fan! Morgan Hill Cellars is a very chill tasting room. Our pourer, Lisa, was amazzzzzzzzzzzing. She was full of wine knowledge but personable, entertaining, and funny as hell. She gave a great breakdown of what to expect with each wine so we were prepared for the flavors. As far as the wines themselves, I liked most of them. I'm not much of a white wine drinker, so I tried the Riesling and the White Zinfandel and then switched to the reds. I'm DEFINITELY a port fan so you can bet I got all excited when I got to that section of the tasting. My favorite was their traditional (I think blue?) port... mmm I could drink that for days. Besides their awesome wines and staff, the tasting room also has beautiful grounds. The buildings are gorgeous and behind the main room is a super pretty picnic area. I attempted a jumping picture, but failed miserably (sorry!) They also sell a variety of merchandise including cute-sy wine signs and yummy olive oil and pepper jams and what not. My husband and I had such a great visit today. Lisa was AMAZING. So knowledgeable about everything! The only thing i was sad about was that the patio was closed because it was reserved for an event. The rose port is deliciously sweet and actually does Taste like an oatmeal raisin cookie despite how strange that sounds. But, unfortunately all their tasting wine tasted like a vinegar we couldn't even take a second sip this much it was bad wine, and on top of that very cheap presentation it was served in a plastic basket. They have quite a bit of wine paraphernalia for sale, and they have a cute way of presenting your wine samples - almost like a cupcake tree! Last winery of the day, so I was feeling a lil twinkly when we got here...and I immediately felt the love from Lisa the winetender. Ahh lovely green haired Lisa with a thing for all things Irish..even though she's not Irish..(but very well could be) :) She was up and ready for some banter and happy to serve up many many tastings. We tried everything on the menu..even some champagne and about 10 of the flavored wines (which I usually hate, but loved for some reason here). Then came "Henry's Art Christmas Wine"... I was transported back to 3rd grade.. it was the age of Strawberry Shortcake and friends..her nemesis, Purple Pie Man. This wine smelled JUST like the Purple Pie Man..and since age 9, I have wanted to eat something that smells like him and here it was..in a bottle..for only $23. I had to get 2..the boyfriend got 1. Let me tell you, we rarely leave a place with 3 bottles of the same varietal..but here we were licking our chops and asking for more. Seriously, the most berry-filled, delicious wine I have ever encountered. I need to come back just to get more of this wine just so I can feel OK with drinking these bottles on a non-special occasion. We finally wrapped up our tasting and left with many bottles of wine and gave Lisa a break from my drunk antics. She was fun though and she truly was the icing on the cake for all our tastings..if it weren't for her, I'd never want to go back to Morgan Hill for wine.. but because of her, I shall! read more

this is one of the most prettiest wine tasting rooms I've seen. Its decorated with elaborate tapestries, and pretty decors for the kitchen... The friendly server for the tastes was informative about the wine's history and what pairs well with the wines... Plenty for tastings and pretty good wines.. The best thing is the breads, oils infused with rosemary, lemon, orange, garlic & lime... yum yum.. bought a few bottles of those... Secondly they have this peach spread for meats or desserts, which actually taste awesome... bought a jalapeno jelly for cooking or mixing with cream cheese & pairing with wines... This tasting room carried edibles along with fantastic wines.. my colleagues and I spent the most time at this tasting room, and I'd go back. Highly recommended. read more

This is my favorite winery in Morgan Hill. I love the wine, the food, the beautiful atmosphere and the family vibe. When we go wine tasting, this is "home base". This is the only winery where we enjoy just about all the wines. No pretentious wine snobs here, just great wine, reasonable prices, and a beautiful tasting room. Free wine tasting!!! & little bite samples as well. Note- this is a tasting room and not a vineyard, so there is not much to look at from the outside. The sommelier behind the counter was very personable and knowledgeable about the wines they offered and their tastes. I tried several wines, and although I was not pressured to buy anything, I still felt awkward asking for tastes of wine for free, especially since my boyfriend and I were the only ones in there (I was the only one tasting, though) and all of her attention was on me. However, I left her a nice tip so all was good in the end! The merlot and cabernet I tried were nothing special, and they process their wines in steel instead of oak, so I missed that flavor in their wines. The fruit wines were light and sweet, but too sugary for my taste. They tasted more like juice. All in all it was fun for the tasting experience, but I would not return for the quality of the wines. read more

I got to do my first legal wine tasting here! Morgan Hill Cellars is their official name. The winery used to be named Pedrizzetti Winery until it burnt down a few years ago. I can't remember the name of the gorgeous woman who led us through the tasting. Tasting twelve wines will do that to you. Tastings are absolutely free and the person pouring the drinks gave us about half a glass of each wine. You're normally supposed to get less than a quarter-glass! She was very, very generous. Since my mom and I aren't fans of red wines, she let us try the fruit wines and sparkling wine while my grandparents finished the red course. Try the blackberry or pomegranate wine with a little sparkling wine mixed in! It was incredible! The wines are incredibly affordable. Like other reviewers have said, everything is typically under $20. They even offer a split of champagne, which is $4.50. They have a small gift shop with winery-themed items. We visited several wineries on our trip, and the server here was our favorite! They really listened to what we liked and built the tasting around that. read more

Free wine tasting of over 15 or so wines, wonderful hospitality and some truly yummy wines. Normally, I don't like whites, but the whites here are so good I ended up buying two! Great selection of ports, I think about 5. I ended up getting one, but I could have easily gotten 3. Morgan Hill Cellars is one of the few local wineries that serves a Merlot. My two favorites, the Blue Label and their Blackberry Merlot. The blackberry is so mild, you just taste a hint of it at the end. IT makes it a very unique Merlot. If your interested in more of a sweet dinner wine, they have over 6 dessert wines ranging from apricot to pomegranate to cherry and so on and so forth. All of the wines are very affordable, ranging from some truly unique ginseng at $11 to other wines in the low to mid $20's. In regards to the post by David A, with the one star rating, sounds like someone had a bad experience so he decided to make up some stuff in his rant. Read with caution. For example, he says the wines their are boring, uninspired and lackluster in selection...and yet he booked his wedding reception here. Who books a wedding reception at a place they don't try out first? "... Hey honey, I just tried the wines here their selection is lackluster and those that I did taste, were just O-K. Let's have a wedding reception there!" PLEASE! Thanks for the review on how your wedding reception turned out, but an honest assessment of the wines would have been nice, not a bitter one flavored that way from a disastrous wedding reception. The wines are mostly tasty, I am a fan of the fruit ports and the whites. The interior of the tasting room is pretty neat, love the backdrop to the main bar. And the outdoor seating area is very lovely. But the best part of this place? One of the staff members, I have no idea what her name is, but she is very vintage fabulous. I adore her. She is very personable and doesn't appear to be a wine snob at all, just knowledgeable about the product she is trying to sell. And she doesn't push the product on you, which for me, makes me much more likely to buy something. Oh, and I mustn't forget the olive oil. Oh the olive oil. It's all delicious. The basil is bright and fresh, the garlic is garlicy without the raw taste, the lemon was light, and the jalapeno-very spicy but not burning, just left a nice kick on the tongue for a while. I am fascinated by the idea of the rosemary oil. Will I go back for the wine? Yes. Will I go back for the oil? Hell yes. read more
