EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING. This was our first visit to moretti's. While driving and we saw people sprinting to the front door so we were joking around boy. This must be the hotspot. But as soon as we walked in, we realize they were already almost full, and that was a half an hour after opening. We were told that we could sit at the bar because they didn't have an opening until 730 at night. We were super impressed as soon as we sat down. The women behind the bar greeted us with smiles and recommendations. Homemade huge loaf of bread was set down with this amazing shallot/garlic herb butter. We ordered crumbled sausage app and didn't realize it was on pasta. It was delicious. Then came side salad with a homemade white balsamic vinaigrette, which was a little bit unusual seeing as it had pasta and green beans on top, but it was really good. My boyfriend got the homemade Italian wedding soup, which was also very good. Now on to the entrees. I ordered the chicken moretti with homemade fettuccine Alfredo and my boyfriend ordered chicken parm. Portions are insane and food was some on the best I've ever had. Everything is homemade from bread you start with to the homemade snickers cheesecake I took home. Will definitely be back. Restaurant was so cozy and it felt like you kinda knew everybody there. Being from the East Coast, we are very critical of Italian food. That being said, we had an amazing experience at the original Morettis. I am sad that it took this long to eat at this establishment. There is so much care put into each element of the food here: the noodles are hand made and each dish is cooked to order. Even and then bread and herb butter are prepared in house. I also appreciate that each entree comes with a soup or salad! This meant that we went home with enough leftovers for a large meal the next day. We tried the sausage lasagna and the veal Moretti. This is hands down my absolute favorite restaurant in Columbus since I discovered it 5 years ago. I had my graduation dinner here, I bring every out of state visitor, and come every year for special events: birthdays, anniversaries, you name it. For the amount of food you get, the price is right. I usually make 2 meals out of it. Plus, depending on the day of the week, they have certain discount specials. With your entree you can pick between a soup or salad. I always get their salad because it's soooo delicious. It's a nice house salad with balsamic vinaigrette, beans, tomatoes, onions, and pasta. They'll ask you if you want Gorgonzola cheese with it, and I always say no because it's an additional charge and they put on way too much (at least they did the one time I got it). The bread is always fresh and the butter is phenomenal. We usually get extra pasta sauce as a dip for our bread. Their pasta sauce is just AMAZING. So I always have to get something with their pasta sauce. You can even buy the sauce alone if you want to save some to make at home later. My mom loved it so much too that she ordered some to take home with her all the way to Hawaii! I highly recommend making a reservation in advance because it gets packed! I'm almost hesitant to even post this raving review so that the place doesn't get even more crowded and potentially interfere when I go...but I gotta spread the good word with my fellow Yelpers and to increase recognition of Columbus' best restaurant! read more

Very disappointed w our food Monday eve. I had ravioli w meat sauce- the ravioli were undercooked and very doughy. I could not eat them- I enjoyed the ricotta spinach filling but the pasta was inedible. My wife who is not very critical also agreed w me. Secondly, the sauce was spicy and we were not forewarned about it. It seems many Italian restaurants do this to alter the true sauce flavor. Thirdly, there was enough sauce on each plate for 10 people. That's not good in my opinion. Fourthly, they have no Caesar salad and their regular salad has pasta in it. Too much for a salad. Came with a friend at around 8 pm on a weekday. We waited a little bit to be seated. The restaurant is small and intimate and I'm not sure I would recommend it for large parties without prior reservation. We were seated at a small two person booth but it worked out enough for us. I had a soup and my friend had a salad to start with, and then we each had a different pasta for our entree. The portions are large, the waitress was friendly, and we did not wait long for the food. We couldn't finish our pasta and got take-out boxes and also did not go for dessert. You could easily share an entree with a friend, but everything tasted really good so sharing would entail missing out on trying another entree! I think each day has a different special, and the day we went (Monday? Tuesday?) had a special on the chicken items on the menu. Moretti's of Arlington is easily my favorite Italian restaurant in Columbus. It seems that this Moretti's on Sawmill seems to get an even better review online, so I was super excited to dine at this Moretti's. The first time we tried to dine here, it was on a Saturday and they were completely booked for the night so we weren't even given the option of waiting for a seat. Fair enough. The second time, we called ahead of time for a reservation and was able to snag a seat. My first impression was that this place is smaller and more cramped than the one in Upper Arlington. No wonder we needed to call ahead for seats! We ordered The Italian Plate (which is basically a huge sampler plate w/ spaghetti, ravioli, chicken parm, Italian sausage, etc.) and their sausage pizza. The Italian Plate was just as good here as it is at the Upper Arlington location... but their pizza crust was thicker and less crispy here. They also didn't have the Angry Italian pizza on their menu, which is my favorite pizza at the UA location. I do wish that they offered the same menu choices between the two locations. The service was good, and overall, we had a good experience. The third and most recent time we tried to dine here (which I believe was 8/3/17), I tried calling throughout the day for a reservation but couldn't get through. It was a Thursdays so we thought maybe we can just walk in and get a seat since the phone wasn't working... then it turned out they were closed that entire week for renovation according to a piece of paper on the front door. They could've left a message on their phone or website... So yeah, even though I love the food at Moretti's, trying to dine here seems to be a lot of hassle. I recently went to Moretti's on Sawmill for the first time. I had the chicken parmigiana and it came with your choice of soup or salad and a big loaf of freshly baked bread. The food was out of this world. My server checked in on me often. The tables in the dining room were a bit cramped but not all of them were occupied when I went. I happened to go on a Monday which is $4 off chicken dishes. Moretti's isn't the cheapest restaurant but this helped and it was well worth the quality in my opinion. read more

Well second try on our trip to Ohio. It wasn't great. The service went from okay to what happened to our waitress? The food? The salad was super weird. There were random pieces of different types of pasta on the salad. It added nothing to the flavor or texture so why? It looked like an accident and it's not Italian. The food is BURIED in sauce. The bread on the table was ice cold. While it tasted fairly good, how nice would it be if the temp wasn't "This was taken out of the freezer today and it is JUST thawed." The waitress told my husband the Italian sausage was spicy. He was excited about that. It wasn't at all, but it was good. The worst was the ambiance. Really it was bad. The entry has like two bars side by side. The colors are broody in a bad way. The other side where the majority of the table are has the kitchen entrance smack in the middle and it is unpleasant. So the table we sat at had two views; a metal roll down door and the kitchen entrance. So the food was a B-, the ambiance a D. Everyone was friendly. We were hoping for better. read more

I've heard from several people about how good the food is at Morettis and finally got a chance to try. We went on a busy Friday night and they stuck us at a two top table that was basically in a hallway between the dining room, kitchen and bar area. The tiny table and poor location was really disappointing. Our server, DJ, came over and she was so pleasant and helpful, that really lightened the mood. We ordered a bottle of red wine ($35) and the sausage appetizer. Be aware the sausage appetizer takes about 20 minutes to prepare. It's a couple of housemade links sauteed with onion and peppers. Apparently they've been making this recipe since 1969. It was SO good. Spicy and flavorful and juicy and delicious. The meals come with a choice of salad or soup of the day. We both chose the Italian wedding soup. Also, delicious. Lots of huge chunks of vegetables, really flavorful broth, just enough pasta and meatballs and chicken. I was full already at this point. I should add they bring out a loaf of bread the size of your head with seasoned butter. The crust was crunchy and the inside was soft and airy and amazing. I think another review compared it to wonder bread...you crazy! My friend ordered the special. It was a scallop dish with bacon over pasta. The scallops were cooked prefectly. And I can't say enough about the pasta which was fettuccine. All the pasta (except the penne) are homemade and you can tell, perfect consistency, perfect flavor and just the right amount of Al dente. He loved it! I ordered veal moretti which was two giant cutlets on top of the fettuccine with an amazing cream sauce. TO. DIE. FOR. The breaded veal was crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside. Even reheated the following day which I had to do because the portion is gigantic. I would highly recommend this dish. Everything is delicious. Consistently good comfort food. You're not going to find lite options here. Everything is heavy and rich and you leave full and happy. All the long noodle pastas are house made. Others are a high quality dried Italian noodle. Faves are the lasagna with pesto and sausage, margarita flatbread, fettuccini alfredo, petit filet, eggplant appetizer, house salad (it has green beans and cold pasta in it - so good!). Several small plate options. They also serve a house bread and a wonderful garlicky oniony butter to go with it. Yummmmmmmmmmmm. I have lived in Columbus for over 15 years and had never tried Moretti's. We got the sausage pizza, seafood chowder, chicken moretti, and veal parmigiana. All of it was completely decadent and perfectly prepared. Despite the thick crust, the pizza was actually light and just that right combo of crispy and chewy. The portions were massive and everything was very reasonably priced. Our server was excellent, super sweet and helpful. She even packaged up an entire loaf of bread and plenty of butter to go with our leftovers. The food is definitely rich and I did find myself wishing I had a vegetable or something acidic to break up the richness, but that's on me for not ordering the salad as a side. We get Moretti's monthly and it has NEVER disappointed! I get the shrimp and sausage with homemade noodles and my wife alternates between the chicken Moretti and chicken Parm. Moretti's on Sawmill never disappoints. It is my absolute favorite Italian dining in Columbus. Their food is beyond reproach. Dining in is a little tight as the room is small, but they pack ''em in comfortably. If it's busy, just carry out. I need to branch out on what I order, I always get the manicotti. The ricotta cheese is so delectable, it makes me wonder if they make it in-house. The casserole is baked and adorned with browned and bubbly melted cheese And the sauce, oooo so yummy. There are three tubes of manicotti included, but after the salad and bread, I usually go home with two. The dish comes with an interesting salad. The house dressing should not be missed. But let's talk about the bread and butter. OMG, it's fabulous!! Nothing compares anywhere. The infamous flavored butter slathered on the freshly made bread is really just beyond. If I wasn't too embarrassed to just order bread and butter, I would. It's really all you need. However, everything else is really too delicious to pass up. The husband orders the sausage and peppers app and a salad. He uses the lovely bread to make a sandwich and he's in heaven. This Italian boy likes him a sausage and peppers sangwich, even if he does create it himself. I have been partaking in Moretti's deliciousness since it was a tiny carry out space in Grandview with a couple of chairs. It was spectacular then and it is still spectacular thirty years later. The Tremont location in UA does their own thing and it is wonderful. My preference will always be the Sawmill fare. One recommendation from a longtime fan, wear your stretchy pants. Let's start with the atmosphere, it's very nice place and the crowd ranges from young to older. It has a mom and pop feel and you can be casual or dress up. The food and wine are very good. They start you off with garlic, herb butter and fresh bread; fantastic. I would recommend the veal meat balls as an appetizer. I had a special; chicken and house made sausage with red peppers and onions over fettuccine Alfredo with a white cream sauce; very, very good. My wife had the chicken fettuccine Alfredo; very similar to my dish and just as good. Several of the dinners come with salad or soup and are easily shareable. This will become a regular rotation for us and is one of better Italian restaurants in the Columbus area. Make sure you book a reservation or you could eat and drink at the bar.
