From the crab cakes and fried eggplant appetizers, the tossed salads, pasta with meatballs to the chicken parmigiana. Every single thing was fantastic. This mom-n-pop Italian restaurant is a big hit for the locals, it seems. We had to have a reservation and it was packed until closing time! And that was a Monday?!?! If that doesn't say it all, I don't know what does! The bread was so delish and so appreciated by our hungry group of five! When we finished the first basket and complimented them on it, they gave us a second one! Wow! This is old-school dining. It's a rare-ity in this day and age! The dinners come with a side of salad or soup, and mind you, the soup was an entree-size Italian Wedding Soup, which was a first for me and it was delectable! Then when I saw the dinner portions I knew right away that I was in trouble. Big portions, not enormous, just big. I had the crab cakes atop a bed of pasta, I mean, two large crab cakes. SO good. My sister had the sausage lasagna, another hit. And the guys had their seafood pasta. Portions are large, so plan ahead--don't fill up on bread and soup! Our first visit and definitely will not be back- too many negatives: Waited 10 minutes for the hostess to show up- why? She was in the kitchen getting a take out order ready- short on staff? An over crowded dining room that was small and confining- our table was so small that the large bread basket took about a quarter of the space. Speaking of the bread- yes it is home made BUT it was cold and in no way resembled warm crusty Italian bread that a good Italian restaurant serves. The salad was an adventure- you have to pick at it to find the lettuce with all the other items they have mixed in. My Chicken Parmesan was good but the pasta was lukewarm and I was not ready for the unusual spicy kick of the tomato sauce. My wife had the ravioli and meatballs which she found good but not exceptional. Best part of the meal was the tiramisu- exceptional. read more

I'm obviously failing in my responsibilities to highlight amazing locations in the area. This is one of our favorites and just realized I have never given them the kudos they deserve. The Sawmill location of Moretti's is an incredible locals stop for amazing Italian food. Homemade pasta and bread, along with delicious dishes. You need reservations on most nights but can on occasion sneak in and grab a bar seat. The hostesses, bartenders and wait staff are all incredible, so you can't go wrong. Large parking lot in front of the strip mall location - across Sawmill from Sam's/Home Depot. Even if you are a health nut, please enjoy their ball of homemade bread - crazy good. You get a lot of food, so we typically skip appetizers (green beans and their crumbled sausage are both great), but there are several good ones if that is your thing. Entrees come with a very nice house salad also with homemade dressing, but if you prefer their Italian Wedding Soup is a staple here. This week they were crowded so we grabbed the bar stools and we tried the Garlic Shrimp and the Cheese Ravioli w/Meatballs. Both (pictured) were delicious. Would order again or go to their best Chicken Moretti - which is their version of Alfredo. They also have homemade desserts for your night cap. Service is great, but this place is TIRED. We went for a special occasion and aren't from the area. Based on reviews we thought it would be a good choice. Food was good, not great. Don't be misled by the Italian wedding soup. It's just chicken soup...nothing close to Italian wedding. Again, service was great. Morettis is definitely one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Columbus! This is the type of restaurant you want to come hungry to because there is so much delicious food and large portions! It's a smaller dining space so i recommend calling ahead for a reservation. I always start out with the bread and butter and the salad with creamy Gorgonzola dressing. The bread and butter is unreal amazing, I could eat the entire loaf. The herb butter has the best flavor! The creamy Gorgonzola dressing is one of my favorite creamy dressings, I prefer it to the balsamic dressing. For my entree I tried the chicken padrone so I could get a few veggies in with my dinner. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the sauce and pasta both had great flavor and were the perfect consistency. I would definitely order this again. I also love the chicken moretti, but like that this comes with some different veggies. My boyfriend ordered the chicken parmesan. This is one of his favorite chicken parms in the city. A disappointing dinner. The only item I ever have is the sausage lasagna.. I've been eating this meal for over 30 years, starting with the Moretti's in Grandview Hts. Tonight, there was a lack of sausage and lack of flavor. The meal has gone from a sausage-covered lasagna to sporadic sausage pieces mixed into the sauce, which also needed a large boost of seasoning. The thick layers of pasta, meat, and sauce have been replaced by a couple of layers of pasta and meat sauce--unsatisfying. The final insult was the leftovers placed in cheap styrofoam containers with the butter just slopped next to the bread. No Moretti's no more. read more

I've been to Moretti's twice and finally decided to give a review after some thought. I'm not sure if I can say I LOVE Moretti's, but it's definitely an establishment I'll come to occasionally. I would say it's mostly because my partner loves Moretti's a lot more than I do. Please make a reservation. The first time I was here they stopped writing people's names down even though it was only 7ish. It gets extremely packed. Honestly they pack you in like sardines haha I was so close to the other table if I moved my arm it would probably touch theirs. At one point I was getting anxious because of how close everyone was to each other and the amount of people that were in the building. Your meal comes with bread, butter, and choice of soup or salad. I believe the soups change from time to time, since I was offered different soups on the days I came here. The bread and butter is delicious. One thing to note is that the fettuccini noodles tasted a lot different from what I am used to. These fettuccini noodles had a different texture and they were very thick. It took me some time to get used to. The first time I came here I got the King Salmon for $25. I thought this was a bit expensive but I shrugged it off because salmon tends to go for a little more at restaurants. I immediately regretted it because the salmon was dry. I didn't even finish it. I was pretty upset because salmon is my favorite fish to eat. My partner looked so happy eating his Chicken Moretti that I was sooo jealous. After trying his chicken, I knew I had to get the Chicken Moretti next time. The second time I was here I came with my family. My mom said everything was too salty and she and my sister couldn't finish the crab cake (My partner and I on the other hand love the crab cake - it was probably too zesty for them). The Chicken Moretti was delicious so I'll probably stick to that for now on when I come. We had two servers. One server was really great and attentive. The other server reached across my partner to hand me my plate -- in my hands -- and didn't set it down on the table. I have been going here for about 20 years. This place hasn't changed except for updating the prices on the menu. and everybody seems to like it that way. The Italian food menu is very traditional. The portions are huge. The food is delicious. For foodies looking for new interpretations of Italian cuisine, and the most recent trends in restaurants, this is not your place. For those looking for it excellent Italian food, entrées less than $30 and plenty of food to take home for tomorrow, this place is fantastic. In a small strip mall , easy to miss! Saw this on yelp and needed something fresh as I'm watching my diet. The lasagna like everything else looked amazing but was layered with cheese. I opted for the garlic chicken, which was pricey but sounded fresh! It had chicken , garlic, pine nuts, and some red sautéed peppers, and olive oil...and that is all. I was expecting some kind of herb or seasoning or something but there was no seasoning I could find. Very bland, I suggested adding sun dried tomatoes, or oregano/ rosemary. I added some lemon to try to liven it up. The Italian wedding soup was good but had more chicken in it than sausage which was just strange. The Italian bread they bring to your table was huge but again... bland with little flavor. Not a fan. Four of us went last night, and we all agree that the one in Arlington is much better. We were seated in a private corner booth right by the front door, and on a cold night was not ideal but not a huge issue. My salad was kind of odd. It had a lot of different kinds of pasta with lettuce and green beans. It was a hassle to eat and and odd combination with little flavor. The bread comes cold and my fiancé didn't care for it since it was cold and it was ok for me. The butter was delicious though and you could put that on anything and make it tasty. I ordered a breaded veal with pasta, mushrooms and a red sauce. The veal was fairly chewy and had little flavor. The pasta was like ramen noodles and ok. There were 4 us and we split a $30 bottle of wine. Mine was $31 and hers was $23. Had piece of tiramisu and they don't have a desert menu so I'm not sure how much it was. My bill was hand written and I didn't think much of it until we left and I found out my friends told them to split the bottle. 31+23+15 is $69 plus whatever the tiramisu cost so how my bill was $99.98 really doesn't make sense to me. Parking on a Friday or Saturday isn't great and we all agreed that the quality of food you get for the price is far from worth it. None of us will return again. read more

I have to agree, based on the SAUCE, SPAGHETTI & the "Veal Parm" I tried on this #FirstVisitEverMorettisSawmillCBUS How have I lived in Columbus for 25 years and not know about the, "other Moretti's". Every once in a while, your circle of friends gets to talking about the best restaurants in Columbus. Eventually, you end up talking about Italian food and the names roll out; everyone's got their favorites; everyone's claiming some thing about somewhere. Some of them you've tried, some of them you haven't tried. The Best Columbus secrets has always been Claudiano's in my book, for their seafood bowl but I just found out about, "Moretti's on sawmill". Yes, there's another Moretti's! (And it's not the lackluster performance you got down on Grandview Avenue, I guess that's the cousin!) I only went there once, but I wasn't impressed. It could've been Italian fast food like Fazoli's is my memory. But that's not. What's happening up on sawmill Road! Do you think you've had veal Parmesan? Do you think you've had spaghetti? Do you think you've had handmade spaghetti? Do you think they cooked it to Al Dente perfection anywhere else)? --------------No!-------------- Honestly, I was hooked when I had a fork full of perfectly cooked, homemade spaghetti. It was thicker than the normal angel hair or thicker than normal spaghetti. Really, unless you're making this at home in boiling it with your eye on the pot constantly, I don't know how you can get this perfect. I spontaneously tried to round up a few of my friends at the last minute around 4 o'clock, but everybody was busy so I ended up walking in to see what this is all about. A humble store front amidst a little strip mall on sawmill, across from Home Depot, you wouldn't think that all the cars in the parking lot were most likely people packing the Sawmill Moretti's's location, but when you walk in the door , you find booths packed with double couples, squeezed in with a bottle of wine and four glasses, having a classy conversation in a beautifully renovated masculine format with gray walls, black and white highlights, and marble countertops on your right, stretching as far as the eye can see back towards the bathrooms, were the wine eventually forms the line. We sat at the bar on a busy Friday night. Morettis seems like a neighborhood place; we were driving across Ohio and were treated like regulars. The house salad had crisp lettuce, tomatoes, green beans, and cheese. It was delicious. The chicken piccata was huge and so creamy, with huge fresh mushrooms. Where have you been all my life? The homemade pasta is so delicious it's gotta be somebody's grandmother's recipe. The noodles are dense and eggy, you can tell they're made from scratch. No fillers or flavor enhancers needed. We got there meals for five of us to split which was plenty. The portions are generous! We had fettuccine Alfredo, chicken Parmesan, and eggplant Parmesan. The eggplant was sliced thick, perfectly breaded and fried and didn't have that soggy edge to it like most eggplant dishes can have at other places. Both the marinara and Alfredo sauces were rich and flavorful. Again, you can tell these are made with real ingredients from scratch. My favorite part were the sautéed mushrooms on top. Perfection! But I can't leave out the sides; the side salad and bread. The salad comes with house dressing (which is the bomb) and a few undressed noodles, marinated green beans and tomatoes. Crazy simple, but so good. And the rolls and butter; stop everything you're doing and make sure you have room for them! The rolls are crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside and the herb and garlic infused butter is the stuff dreams are made of. Every bite was worth every penny. Also got Wedding Soup instead of salad and it was good, nothing like the family recipe though hardly anyone compares to that though. Even the leftovers were delicious. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING. This was our first visit to moretti's. While driving and we saw people sprinting to the front door so we were joking around boy. This must be the hotspot. But as soon as we walked in, we realize they were already almost full, and that was a half an hour after opening. We were told that we could sit at the bar because they didn't have an opening until 730 at night. We were super impressed as soon as we sat down. The women behind the bar greeted us with smiles and recommendations. Homemade huge loaf of bread was set down with this amazing shallot/garlic herb butter. We ordered crumbled sausage app and didn't realize it was on pasta. It was delicious. Then came side salad with a homemade white balsamic vinaigrette, which was a little bit unusual seeing as it had pasta and green beans on top, but it was really good. My boyfriend got the homemade Italian wedding soup, which was also very good. Now on to the entrees. I ordered the chicken moretti with homemade fettuccine Alfredo and my boyfriend ordered chicken parm. Portions are insane and food was some on the best I've ever had. Everything is homemade from bread you start with to the homemade snickers cheesecake I took home. Will definitely be back. Restaurant was so cozy and it felt like you kinda knew everybody there. This place is always packed, so we've never actually dined in. Saturday night was no exception as there was a 2 hour wait at 5:30pm when we picked up our food! Calling in our food was relatively easy and there was a 30 minute lead time. When we got there to pick up our food, the hostess was less than helpful in directing patrons where to go to pick up food. She had us wait in line with the other guests who were waiting to put their names down for a table?! Social distancing was not enforced as there were so many people inside in the waiting area standing close to one another, not to mention patrons at the bar who were essentially 1-2 ft. from the other parties. The food is pricey, but delicious. The bread is wonderful as well. We got the fettuccine, ravioli, chicken parmesan, and veal Mortetti meals. These came with salad or Italian wedding soup.
