Moreno's Bakery - I picked up a catering order of breakfast sandwiches, along with 2 totes of cafe con leche for my work event at a cost of over $260. Not only did the server not include over half the sandwiches, but the cups for the coffee did not fit. I didn't realize the problem until after unpacking the food at the event, and had to send someone back to the restaurant to retrieve the sandwiches, while half my coworkers went without food. No one from the store volunteered to deliver the sandwiches, which were left off the order, which meant my coworker didn't return for over an hour after my event started. Later that day after the event was over, I called the restaurant and asked for the manager. After waiting over 10 minutes to speak to her, I then spoke with a manager named Yomarin who stated that the morning manager, Kaitlin, should have fixed the problem, but all she could do is offer me a $25 in-store gift certificate for my trouble. I told her it was not enough for all the trouble and embarrassment their atrocious customer service had caused me, and she could keep the gift certificate. My wife and I routinely frequent Moreno's and had enjoyed the breakfast sandwiches and dinner food since they arrived in Brandon. However, after this experience and their lack of concern for my inconvenience, I will no longer be patronizing the restaurant and will be informing my friends, family, and colleagues to do likewise. read more

Every single time I visit, the customer service is terrible. I felt like it may had been a race issue but wasn't sure. I was "carded" to use my "debit card" to purchase a donut. When I challenged it, I was told that it was their policy but they didn't card the person before or after me. I won't be returning. The food is great but customer service isn't good. However, the lamb was blend and cold. Collard greens were very blend as well. I'm a little disappointed with my hot food needless to say. I wasted $13 and still left hungry. Also, there is no formed line to pay. As we were led to the register to pay by a employee, the person standing by the pole away from the register started mumbling that there is a line. However, I do not see a line formed; people were just standing around (not in a line). Furthermore, I was led to the register by the employee to go ahead and pay. This was a really nice treat. We chose this place because it was 10:30AM and it gave the option for breakfast and lunch items. They have great lunch combos starting at $10 and options for side items. The variety of food is good as they offer breakfast items, hot plate items, a huge array of desserts, sandwiches and more. They also offer catering for off site events. Everything was clean and presented well. The food was delicious. We had the 2008 Mareno salad, fried shrimp, collard greens, mashed potatoes, and the Renee salad. Everything was fresh and very tasty. Moreno's has an awesome Latin & Cuban flare to it. Many of the pastries have, for example, guava as an additional choice of a filling. My favorite dessert here is the almond horn. If you like almond extract (amaretto) that is potent, this delicacy is for you. They don't hold back on the flavor. They also have traditional cookies & Jewish delicacies like rugelach. Moreno's is right across the street from where I work, and it takes a lot of willpower to not go every lunch hour. Located in a plaza near King's and 60, it is very accessible and has back roads to give you enough options depending on the traffic at the time that you visit. I take this into consideration as Brandon traffic gets bad in the afternoons. There is a lot of parking space, however, they have to share it with several other businesses and the last time I went, there were no available parking spaces at all and people were parking across the street. I have been there many times, and have yet to have any negative interaction with anyone there. They really try to accommodate everyone trying to order, and they do have a number system although they don't always use it (especially when there is not a lot of people). I see that they are also doing stuff in the background while making sure that the customers get their orders, but are attentive enough that they ask me what I need even before I decide how many/ what type of pastries I want. There are the options to get hot food, Cuban sandwiches, pastries and desserts, coffee, or all of them. Hot food is good, although a bit pricey and not too flavorful, and the portions are a bit small in relation to the price you pay. The pastries are just wonderful! My sister drops by Moreno's every time she passes through Tampa on the way home to Parrish because her family loves the guava and cheese pastries as well as the quesitos. I drop by every once in a while to order those pastries to bring to them, and always end up eating one. My boyfriend loves their cookies and apple fritter, but says that the latter has a LOT of sugar. What would you expect though, right? (P.S. Apple fritter tastes really good). Cafe con leche is on point, I love the strength and flavor of the coffee.
