This review is based on my last two visits to More Perreca's, in July 2019 and the end of Sept 2019. In July I had Eggs in Purgatory which has been touted as one of their specialty dishes so I was anxious to try it. When ordering they asked if I wanted sausage in it as an extra...i said yes. I noticed before my order came that the person on the table next to me had it as well. But i noted that their bread was not toasted and i started looking for my server to let her know I definitely wanted mine toasted as the description stated. Before I could do that mine arrived with my bread the same way. When i said something to the server, she said that they were toasted...there was no browning at all on these ...pieces they were calling toast. The sausage that i ordered were specs smaller than a raisin. Little bits total waste. I can't really say much about the taste of the broth or the cook on the eggs. Very disappointing. Two others in my party had sausage that was raw. In Sept, I went with what I thought would be fool proof. Eggs over easy. It was a two egg dish but I had them add 2 more. So total of 4 eggs and bacon and home fried potatoes. Order came missing the bacon. But the main issue was my eggs had yokes that we just about hard boiled. Little to no moisture at all. Over well to say the least. Cooking an egg is about the most basic of chef tasks. I will try to post a pic olif i can. I am done with this place. My son found two hairs in his potatoes. read more

More Perreca's - Horribly overcooked eggs that i ordered over easy. I won't be back. - Italian Near Me - Schenectady, New York

Food was decent, being vegan I love finding Italian style food that I don't have to worry if my noodles or pasta are made with egg. Or is my bolognese sauce has cream in it, as being vegan isn't 100% a choice. I am highly allergic to milk protein and Eggs. I The ambiance was casual, not at all romantic. A good spot to meet with friends after class or work. Being Dog friendly (because there are way to many places that aren't and there are a lot of people also like myself whom have service dogs and are turned away from most places because of their companion) and having heated outdoor seating is pleasant especially if you have dogs or if you're stopping by for a meal and have a stroller. However be aware it won't be a quick meal and the last two times I stopped in the servers were less then pleasant. Being women owned you'd think their would be a safe separate lactation area and there is not, there is also separate bathrooms which doesn't roll with the times and may upset customers. Came here for Schenectady Restaurant Week on a Friday night. Despite having reservations, we waited about 45 minutes, but everyone who was leaving said it was worth the wait and boy were they right! Their menu for the event was five courses -- an appetizer, salad, pasta, entree and dessert as well as a palette cleanser of lemon sorbet. There were at least 3 options for each course, which was great. The eggplant rolitini appetizer was drenched in their classic marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese and ricotta --- it was fantastic! The pomodoro pasta was simple, but fresh and let the homemade pasta standout instead of being masked with heavy sauce. The haddock entree was topped with crab meat and was absolutely delicious. It tasted fresh and the crab meat was a great accompaniment. For dessert, we tried their cannoli, which was the perfect size -- not too big and not too small. This is my favorite place to eat in the area. Despite the classics and history of the bakery next door, More Perreca's is a contemporary and creative take on rustic Italian dishes. The restaurant does a great job of making everyone feel at home, while offering a menu that pays homage to familiar Italian flavours with a twist to charm your palate. I loved the pumpkin martini with the mushroom fondue, scooping it up with the delicious fresh bread. After that, I cleaned my plate of chicken parm while picking at the bronzino my companions got! WOW! I have never before experienced such incredible customer service along with such great food. Please do yourself a favor and visit More Perreca's for a great meal and even better experience. The last night of Restaurant Week, we walked in for our 5pm reservation and found that the power had just gone out on the entire block with no indication that it would be back on. While other area restaurants closed and abandoned standing reservations, More Perreca's rose to the challenge and continued to serve food as usual. We received our appetizer, salad, pasta, and palate cleanser (delicious!) quickly, with no obvious effects of the power outage. As it started to get darker outside, the team rounded up candles and lit them for each table to provide a little light. The servers, chefs, and cooks used their phone flashlights while preparing food, and servers wrote down orders outside to use the remaining daylight. The service continued to be stellar, and it was clear that the staff were making the best of a very challenging situation. By the end, servers were holding dinner plates next to candle flames to try and distinguish between meals... but did so with a smile and good humor. The entire three hours that I was there (by choice), I never saw anything less than a smile on everyone's faces. It was amazing and exciting to watch the entire team work together so closely and efficiently. The arancini was to die for. Delicious, perfectly (lightly) fried, and great flavor. I ordered the chickpea cucumber salad per the recommendation of our server, and it was a perfect balance of flavors and textures. The food was so perfectly light and delicious that everyone in my party finished each of the 5 courses happily. It was the perfect amount and style of food. I ordered the ribeye with garlic seasoned broccoli, and could NOT get enough of the broccoli. I don't know how they managed to cook the steak so perfectly (medium rare) in the dark, but it was exactly as I had requested. Lastly, the mango chili gelato actually had a chili kick! It was incredible. A little melted after the power had been out for about an hour, but absolutely worth it. When the staff realized the gelato had been melted, they were kind enough to bring cannolis to each of us in its place. When we started to finish up, the power finally came back on. The entire restaurant erupted into cheers and applause without hesitation. What an amazing adventure and dining experience, made possible solely due to the hard work, dedication, quick thinking, and top notch customer service of all the More Perreca's staff. More Perreca's is one of our favorite breakfast and brunch places. The frittatas are great and it's really nice that a lot of fillings are included for the base price. Maybe you'd like eggplant, meatballs, mushrooms and ricotta like we do. Or perhaps their great sausage along with a bunch of other items? The breakfast pizza a really nice treat when it is one of the specials. They usually will also make a cheese pizza for the kids for breakfast though we were told no on that during our last visit. We didn't push it though and the fallback pancakes were delicious. All of the above and the other things we have tried are nice and range from above average to excellent. There's a reason you see the Eggs in Purgatory highlighted more than any other dish at More Perreca's in the reviews though. If you like poached eggs and a slightly spicy fra diavolo sauce, you might find that it is the best breakfast dish in the Capital Region. If you've never had it, try it and be converted. Can't get there for breakfast? It's on the lunch menu too. We like going on Sunday for brunch and sitting on the patio when the weather is nice. They take reservations so we usually call ahead. It's then an easy walk to the Schenectady Greenmarket for a little post-meal exercise and shopping at the market. The only bummer is that the bakery is closed on Sunday. Last week, we went to More Perrecca's on Saturday though. No Greenmarket on Saturday, but still took a walk and the tradeoff of no Greenmarket was that Perecca's Bakery was open so we could grab a bread for later. Score. read more

Leave the gun, take the cannoli. My husband and I have been eating at More Perreca's for the last several years and that line from The Godfather never ceases to run through my brain every single time we go there. It's the atmosphere in a nut shell, in a good way. In the recent past, MP has been having something of an identity crisis in the food department, or perhaps several of them. Many chefs and many menu changes over the last few years have taken the cuisine from your gramma's Sunday gravy to pseudo-gourmet and everything in between. It had been the good, the bad, and the ugly to the point where you never knew who or what to expect. Hubby and I had stopped going for a while. Then one day I was scrolling Facebook, and owner Maria was asking customers to post their favorite dishes from years past, that there was another change afoot and they would be bringing back the classics. Off hubby and I went to try it. All I can say is yay and bravo! Please, Maria, keep it just as it is this time!! We went on a Sunday around 5, and the accordion player was just setting up! I was totally excited for this good fortune! It was starting to get busy, but we were seated right away in a large booth in the back, very comfortable. Water was brought to the table right away and we ordered drinks. My husband got a Peroni and I got a house Prosecco. They serve the Prosecco in a regular wine glass instead of a flute and I'm okay with that because it's a hefty pour. We had a young girl as our server that we hadn't had before, but she was nice and efficient about taking our order. I told her to take her time with our courses if she was busy with other tables because I like to linger. We ordered the calamari appetizer as well as a Taleggio fondue with wild mushrooms and parsley purée. For dinner, I ordered the classic chicken parm, and my husband got the veal Marsala. The waitress brought over a basket of the famous Perreca's bread. It has a dense crumb and a nice crust....BUT...this is a huge pet peeve of mine anywhere...the bread never comes out warm, arrgh!!!! There is an effing bakery next door! The bread should always come to the table warm. If it hasn't just come out of the oven, fine, just warm it up. And the butter was cold and hard as a rock as well. The accordion player had started and he was just fabulous. I love the accordion and he played old Italian tunes that many people would recognize (again, Godfather). It was outstanding and really added to the experience. That being said, I'm glad we were seated in the back. I think it could have been too loud for us if we were closer. The appetizers came to the table. It's never fancy, but the presentation was nice. The calamari was delicious. Light coating, crispy but not greasy. The sauce was the usual sauce, always good, but I detected a hint of nutmeg in the calamari batter this time-genius! The dish that you are used to, cooked well and slightly elevated but not off the wall. The star of the show, however, was the fondue. It was served with toast, thank you very much, and was beautifully creamy and not at all gritty, as can happen. The local wild mushrooms were fabulous, and I thought that the parsley purée countered the richness nicely. Stellar. Course two, meals are delivered. Drinks are refreshed. MP has started making homemade pasta! It was a great move and definitely the way to go. The homemade spaghetti accompanying my chicken parm was fabulous. Nice texture and properly cooked. The chicken parm cutlet had also changed for the better since our last visit. It was pounded nice and thin and had a crispy but not too heavy crust, topped with the perfect amount of cheese and sauce. Hubby's veal was served over homemade papardelle with the Marsala sauce. Again, excellent pasta. The sauce had that traditional Marsala hint of sweetness combined with a nice veal reduction and lovely mushrooms. The veal cutlets were cooked nicely and the proper thickness. We had enough food for leftovers and we were utterly stuffed, so no dessert. If you are so inclined, Perreca's has great cannoli, I would definitely recommend them. This was a wonderful meal and really enjoyable experience! We may go back again tonight. More Perreca's, it's a step back in time in Schenectady's little Italy. Decked out with black and white old school tiles and decor. The inside is warm, intimate and charming where it's all about quality over quantity. Though I'm sure their business has grown over the years they've kept it a small family business. Fellow yelper Roger K. raved about their bread for which they're well known so we started out with their cheese garlic bread which I'm sad to report didn't live up to my expectations. Maybe it was spoiled by the cheese but the bread was a little too hard for me perhaps the cost we payed for having it served with melted cheese. It also may have been nice if it were served with marinara. Our appetizer included a live serenade by a tenor named Alfio who broke out into song before we entered the entree round. My clams and linguini were just short of heavenly. The broth from the clams was savory, (a little salty), vivid and delicious! The pasta was cooked perfectly and balanced beautifully with the white clam sauce. I would definitely order this next time we come. My husband, constantly in search of a thin New York style pizza got a personal pizza with ricotta, mozzarella, sausage and mushroom. The toppings worked well together. The crust was thin and crisp. Maybe the best thin crust pizza we've had in upstate NY. Service started out strong but waned a little towards the end. Keep in mind they close fairly early since they are also open for breakfast so maybe everyone was a little tired towards the end of the day. Overall great experience, well-priced, feels like you're family at More Perreca's. They also have a large outdoor seating area that I'm sure is delightful in the warmer months. One of my favorite breakfast spots in Schenectady NY. For me what makes a breakfast spot compete is not only good food and service,but a great cup of coffee. More Parecca's delivers outstanding coffee, as well as cappuccinos, lattes and other yummy beverages. One of my favorite items to order is a breakfast sandwich, since they make there own bread and I get sausage for the meat Upton as they also make that fresh on premise. But what seals the deal is their spicy red sauce, called purgatory sauce, which is basically a slightly spiced fresh marinara sauce which is great for dipping your sandwich into. Price for everything is a bit more than your average breakfast spot, but worth it. For example the breakfast sandwich will cost about $7 by the portion, including home fried is ways worth it. This place is kid friendly as well, serving up 1/2 a partial portions at request, and offering up some yummy pancakes that my kids cannot refuse. Lastly the Orange Juice is also fresh squeezed and.kid approved too. You will not leave hungry nor be disappointed. If you want you can order ahead and pickup your breakfast to go. They do also offer great deals for dinner and special discounts on Wednesday night's, but get they're by 5pm. If you do not want to wait. read more

Came on a bustling Saturday night and luckily our always rezzie savvy friends scored us a spot. They do close relatively early so be wary, but seems like there's not much going on in the neighborhood past 8 PM anyways. So I guess it works out. We started with the bread which is supposed to be a highlight here. We opted to go all out and not only get it with garlic but also added cheese- because everything's better with cheese... Not in this case. The cheese was somewhat bland and chewy which did not help the bread which was already a bit on the tough side. I ordered the shrimp alla perreca, if their name's on the dish must be good right? Sadly, struck out again. Someone must've left the garlic at the grocery store because this dish was far from advertised. I basically ate 5 shrimp and they were the most flavorful part of the the meal. The flavorless pasta was definitely not worth the carbs so I picked here and there at the eggplant on my husband's veal sorrento. My dish alone paired with the bread would be a 2* at best. My husband's meal was better but nothing to write home about. However, our friends really enjoyed their meals (pizza and clams linguine) so those might be the way to go here! I got a cannoli to go which was pretty good. The service was standard but when it came time for the check it took quite a while. Not sure if they were using an abacus to calculate our bill or what but it took at least 25 min after we had finished our meal to get the check. Bonus: we did get a serenade from Italian-Australian tenor Alfio (yes you read that correctly: Italian-Australian, can't make this stuff up). The impromptu performance made for some awkwardly charming entertainment. It was a perfect blend of: no one really knows what's going on and the volume's a few decibels too loud for the mean age of the patrons (just north of 70 I'd say)... Put simply: TRY THIS PLACE! I got a reservation last week for dinner and had an INCREDIBLE dinner: 1) Butternut squash cooked in butter and sage with orecchiette. I live in Manhattan and haven't tasted anything this delicious! This was a special, so I'd go in sooner rather than later to get it. 2) I also ordered another special, the white pizza with mushrooms. First off More Perecca's has totally fixed (as far as we've experienced) the evening table service problems I outlined when I first reviewed the evening restaurant. The ambiance is still very casual and open - you can have a conversation with the chef if you'd like while you're waiting for your food - so it's not exactly like your typical higher-end restaurant, it's still got that feel of a neighborhood diner. The walk-up-to-the-counter decor really belies the fact you're having really top-notch Italian fare. Frankly I really don't care for the overdone Americanized Italian menu as a rule, but More Perecca's is really doing it up so well it's enough to turn my head. We've had excellent soups, salads, traditional pasta dishes, slightly jazzed up pasta, the signature pizzas and tomato pies, even the kids' Mac and Cheese is special (just enough mustard). Portions are enormous. However, they're almost pricing me out of the joint for dinner. It's now running us $25 a head with tip, including the fact we have kids as half our party, after sharing a single appetizer and ordering a side of vegetables, without wine, sharing one beer, sharing one dessert. I believe the quality of the food, and now the service, merits this in the abstract, but it does in the end turn it into a higher end restaurant by pricing and by those standards I can't really give it the fifth star as yet. It is, in the end, an American-Italian restaurant with quite a bit of flare, not an Italian-Italian restaurant featuring a particular cuisine, if you will. In the meantime, I think the best deal is still to get one of the outstanding paninis at lunch, preferably "to go" from the bakery side. read more

Back in the day when I worked for a local ambulance company in the greater capital region, rumor had it that Perreca's opened wicked early and that third shifters could hop in, grab a fresh-out-of-the-oven loaf of bread and some signature sauce and have an amazing snack/meal. At least at that time, Perreca's was making bread for a lot of restaurants in the area and had to open early to get the orders filled; that was a Billy Fuccilo HUGE plus for us! Fast forward to today and Perreca's has figuratively and literally expanded into the building next door and out back to open it's specialty to all meals of the day! A full menu that has at least this writers mind reminiscing to the days of watching my grandmother in her kitchen making red sauces from whole tomatoes with her bare hands while having me pull basil and oregano off the sprigs. Even if you're not Italian, the moment you walk in the door, you might as well have been born with a canoli in your hand, because you're eating like one today, while feeling like you're river side in Venice. We stopped in most recently on our way out of town during the first dinner service of a Friday evening and had an amazingly friendly waitress whom was knowledgeable and attentive! Despite the fact that the menu was chocked full of phenomenal choices, my wife opted to request something she's had for breakfast here in a prior visit being the "Eggs in Purgatory." While the name itself doesn't lend it to being anything but evil, when you bite into perfectly cooked eggs in a seriously and purposefully spicy, house made, red sauce sopped up with home made bread you'd think you've died and went in the opposite direction straight to HEAVEN! A superb wine menu with out of this world (yet again, home made) desert options and a little specialty grocery store next door make Perreca's an incredibly well rounded option for all things pertaining to Italian food! The portions are substantial all the while keeping prices reasonable. There's no reason not to come here. read more

This used to be a family favorite. We come here every time we visit from Michigan. My in laws from Massachusetts visit this restaurant several times a year. My mom lives local and comes here more than all of us, or she did. What happened??? We we wanted pizza at 2:30 on Sunday--so did the table next to us. Silly us--no Pizza available--want some eggs? 3 of us ordered spaghetti and meatballs, one ordered tomato pie, one antipasto. The spaghetti sauce was incredibly oily and nothing great--when did the recipe change? I used to LOVE this place! The Gaspacho was too blended for my taste--I like some chunks, but I understand that's a matter of taste. The tomato pie with chicken had very little chicken but tons of bread--way to heavy on the bread. Not at all Pie-like, unless you're thinking two slabs of deep dish crust slammed together with pizza sauce with a slim piece of chicken in the middle. No one was happy--not Michigan, not Massachusetts, not the local. We all wondered if there was new management?? The people at the neighboring table were having the same conversation. I want my old favorite restaurant back! Why the change?? It wasn't just that day--it was the last 3 times we went there over the past month. I'm sad, very sad. read more

Why have I taken so long to review this lovely place?! ‍ SERVICE: The last time I came here the food came out within a reasonable time. Previous times the kitchen can get backed up, which is nice that the staff will let us know prior to seating us. They're very friendly, but not as attentive on the weekends when it's very busy. You can feel the craziness in the air on busy days because it's seems like many staff members are confused. They could benefit from creating a seating flow, as many customers are always standing near the door in a corner very uncomfortable. FOOD: Food is ALWAYS amazing! Never fails and comes out perfect. I was excited to come try this restaurant for brunch because of the great reviews. However, I was utterly disappointed. After we were seated we were ignored for 20 minutes without water until someone came and asked if anyone helped us order. This sounded like an excuse because our menus were still on the table and we had no water. After we ordered, we waited around 40 minutes just to get our food and 10 minutes to get an iced coffee. The wait time is ridiculous and not worth it for the food. The food was okay, nothing special. I'm not sure how they took so long to make egg sandwiches and a turkey sandwich. read more

I enjoy trying different restaurants in Schenectady. Saw mixed reviews for More Perrecca's but eager to go. Made a reservation and immediately seated at a small booth. Tight, small place and booth; no real ambiance but smelled good. Ordered the mussels app, the scallip special, described as scallops and lobster risotto in a blood orange crema, and chicken parm. The mussel app came out/ great broth and toasted perreca bread, tasty. However at least five mussels never opened, out of 15-20 so 25-30% of the shellfish was unopened. These mussels should NEVER have made it to the bowl. The server asked if we were "still working on it" and my response was that these were closed so could not be eaten - no reply other than to take the dish away. Our entrees were brought out. We asked for bread ( why did we have to ask??) and parmesan cheese. Our server brought us bread. We again asked for cheese which she brought after our third request. The chicken parm had a texture and taste of frozen and reheated cooked chicken. It was spongy and the sauce and cheese had no real flavor. The scallop special- $34 for scallops that were so fishy tasting I ate two and stopped, fearing I'd be sick all night. Lobster? A few dried possibly tidbits of lobster meat. Blood orange crema? Absolutely zero citrus taste. I love scallops and eat them often. I know when they are bad. The whole dish was a failure. The bread ( that we had to ask for ) - the only positive and only sustenance all night. Definitely the worst dining experience I've had in many years. Ok here's the beginning of my bitch fest! Sorry, but I have an axe to grind. Let's start with the fact that we've been here several times, each time with a completely different outcome. First time we hit this place it was nothing short of awesome great food with excellent service! What more can you ask for? I mean it was the type of experience that makes you a happy "regular". Then we begin to see some anomalies, slow service once or twice, no biggie, it happens. On another time the kitchen runs out of an ingredient and they substitute it without asking. Well the final nail in the coffin for me? Being seated then ignored. For....twenty....minutes.....Yes,twenty minutes. While no less than 4 wait staff milled about and the owner kissed the ass of a local news reporter two tables away. Good luck going here, I'll never go back. read more

We visited More Perrecas for my birthday and it was terribly disappointing. We placed an order for appetizers and entrees and all the food was delivered at once- no sense of pacing the courses. This gave the insects flying around the table even more food to munch on. Yes- insects. A swarm of fruit flies dive bombed us, our food, our glasses. We couldn't eat. It was disgusting. Response from the waitress: "We can't get rid of them. They keep coming back". We were hoping for a relaxing birthday dinner at a local restaurant. This is one of our regular spots for lunch and dinner. Everything is always delicious. We especially love the calamari, chicken parmesan, the house salad, mac and cheese pizza, bread and giant cupcakes. Do not miss the heavenly trio. It is aptly named! We have also ordered catering from More Perraca's a few times. It's always fantastic and they time it so it's fresh out of the oven. A crowd favorite, for sure. Wonderful place. Friendly. Great food. If you like spaghetti and meatballs plus a good cupcake for dessert you've found your heaven.

Get the eggs and purgatory with sausage and cheese added. There's no going back to other menu options after that.

I used to love this place. We would go any free weekend for breakfast. Their bread brings such nostalgia of my childhood and grandmother! However, I feel as though the new changes have messed with their brunch menu. We've been observing this progression for the past year. There was something really simple, but enjoyable about the old menu. It felt down-to-earth...which I can't say of the new one. We went yesterday with hopes of their tried and true breakfast essentials but was sadly disappointed to see the menu had more lunch than breakfast. There was absolutely nothing on the menu that could be recommended for people with young children. We sadly left. I'm sure it's delicious but the breakfast vibe was off. read more

We went last night for Schenectady's restaurant week. Absolutely fabulous. A 6 course meal for $25. We started with eggplant rollatini. Then we went on to fresh garden salads. I was pleasantly surprised they came with black olives! After that we had the pasta with vodka sauce. Definitely the best vodka sauce I have ever had. A hint of spice to flavor it up. I am already craving it again! After that they gave us a lemon sorbet "to cleanse our palet" but I think it was just an early treat. Dinner consisted of a HUGE piece of prime rib and garlic mashed potatoes. I brought them home I was so full! Desert for me was rice pudding (exceptional)! There are many other options but I am sure every other one was just as good as our selections!! If you are in the neighborhood definitely stop there!! You won't regret it read more
