I don't recommend the mashed potatoes -if you are there late in the day, there were dried chunks of hard skin. Cajun catfish special moist and tasty, not very spicy. Bonus for us was it was Harry Potter Trivia Night. Great entertainment for two "so not into the Potter" thing. The Trivia DJ was engaging and funny. Quaint and local for sure. The Rueben's and the Portabella mushrooms were amazing. We will definitely return again.

Excited about a new bar/restaurant, love the Irish theme. They did a great job with the decor, especially the exterior. They also did a great job designing the restaurant area because the bar noise is very minimal in the eating area. Plenty of TVs to watch the game, but I think they all have to be on the same channel? I was not as excited by the food. We started with the Ruben Egg Rolls (they were excellent). Then I had the Irish stew, which wasn't bad. Here's the problem, I also ordered the Shepherds "Pie". The Pie was basically a serving of mashed potatoes with the same "stew" in a bowl. Granted it was doctored up a bit with scallions and corn, but essentially it was the same flavor.. only over mashed potatoes. To me this was not shepherds pie. My wife had a Reuben, it too was just okay. The corned beef was sliced deli type meat and lacked a lot of flavor. Not much value for $8 (includes a pickle, no side). 0 for 2 on the Irish staples. The atmosphere and the people are kind but the food needs help. This is my second time here. I was here when they opened a few years ago and nothing has improved in my opinion. I had the soup of the day which was a creamy chicken dumpling soup. Tasted like it was straight from a can. I had a sandwich whose name I don't recall but it was a combo of bacon, onions, and what they call beer cheese and roast beef. It was blah tasting. Great pub ambiance. Nice selection of tap drinks. Pleasant service. The turkey sandwich was quite delicious. The Shepard's Pie was decent, but the meat was not very flavorful. Didn't know of this place until they put a little add in our church bulletin. Owner and staff very nice, they did chat amongst themselves a bit, leaving us to 'get their attention'. Very cool atmosphere, great drinks, decent prices for top shelf and imports and the cook is VERY good. Unfortunately, their kitchen is too limiting, technically no grill or broiler. We have chickens, I was surprised seeing such pale yellow egg yolks, fresh free range chickens WITH protein in their diets, yolks are brilliant orange! But the scotch eggs were good, never had them before. The hoagie rolls are more of a ciabatta roll, the French dip was good, but well done. I'd have preferred medium, a little pink and more moist. Hubby got the fish and chips, all good there. Fries were very good, and they have Malt Vinegar! Overall, We had a real nice time and a nice meal there. We shall return! read more

Atmosphere is great. The bartender we had left much to be desired. She was not attentive, couldn't multi-task, was not friendly, and was audibly criticizing other staff members so customers could hear her. Classless and unprofessional. One of the staff members she was insulting was a very sweet girl who was doing a far better job than the bartender was. Owners: The brown-curly-haired bartender was on Saturday evening Nov 11 is going to scare all your staff AND clientele away if she isn't taught how to smile and have some class. We will be back, but only when she isn't working. It was a disappointing experience. We had one pint and had to leave right away. We planned to stay longer but just couldn't. read more

The minute you walk in Charlie is there to greet you with a smile. He also makes a great Black & Tan. The old Legion hall has a great new look and we enjoyed being there and seeing the pictures of the remodel. Very welcoming. The front bar area has plenty of seating and there is a large area in the back. I didn't go back there, but I did see a pool table. We ordered the Bangers & Mash and the Irish Egg Rolls. The portions were the perfect size for me, but my husband would have liked a bigger portion for the price. We liked the food and the egg rolls were a nice surprise we would order again (2 rolls $7.00). One review we read mentioned that instant potatoes were used for the Mash. If they are instant we couldn't tell. The texture is like an instant, but covered with that delicious Guinness gravy it really didn't matter. read more

Our server was super wonderful and accommodating. The appetizers we had were good. On the other hand my friend and I had ordered a drink that wasn't very good at all and asked to change it out for a couple beers instead. The description of the cocktail failed to say that the espresso was a liquor that was mixed with Guinness and wasn't even close to tasting like espresso at all. When the cocktails first hit the table the ice was also almost completely melted. We tried to drink them but couldn't. I asked the bartender why she couldn't switch them out and she continued to belittle me on the type of espresso "liquor" was used and that she made it the way it was described and kept repeating it to me. As a customer it isn't my job to know the name of a liquor without it saying so. I left the server a fat tip because it wasn't her fault but they will fail their servers in the tip department because most don't understand and will take it out on them. If they would have switched out our drinks we probably would have stayed longer, spending more money. I've never been treated so poorly at an establishment by a manager. It's called hospitality for a reason. I had worked in the industry for quite some time. At every single place I've ever worked you always accommodate and fix the problem. Which makes the customer happy, the tips are higher and they will come back! It's a win win for everyone! As for the servers who work there I'd run as fast as you can to all the other way busier establishments that were rocking on a Saturday night. It's very clear to me why they only had one other customer on a Saturday night. read more

Sooo disappointed. We're in town on our boat with a small dog. Very excited to eat here. They have a large outdoor patio (beer garden) which we expected to sit and eat at. However we're greeted by a rather rude gentleman that frankly lied and said dogs aren't allowed at outdoor eating areas according to Wisconsin state codes. Either he's ignorant or lieing. Either way we took our business to an amazing outdoor dog friendly restaurant called Courthouse Pub! Try it the foods amazing and our puppy loved her fresh water! I arrived and joined my group at a table in the back at which point I requested a bud light. I was told by the server, " if you're only getting beer I'd prefer you do it at the bar".. mind you I had just arrived and my friends had already eaten and the bar was full. I got my beer and asked for a menu. 90 minutes later after receiving only one beer and no menu my friend and I decided to eat somewhere else. We asked for the check which took at least 20 minutes to receive and when it finally was brought we immediately handed her our payment expecting a reasonable timed return. An additional 20 minutes pass at which point the server came to our table and said, "oh did I give your card back". I don't know if it was her first night or she was just overwhelmed but the service was atrocious. Great service, good food, and wonderful drinks! Had a rainy camping trip and came here for some "real" food to warm up.

Enjoyed a great meal and wonderful service. Weather cooperated so we were able to eat outside in the courtyard. Loved the Shepard's Pie!

We can't make it out here very often, but it's always a pleasure! Good beer, good food (I don't know what they do to their fries, but everyone needs to learn how to do it), and friendly atmosphere! read more

Went to check out a new place in Manitowoc and couldn't have been happier. Outside facade looked great and found the inside decor also very well done. Bartender was very cheerful and helpful. Waitress great as well. My mom had fish & chips and impressed with large chunks of moist cod done to perfection. I rarely eat fries and only when worth the calories but these were awesome. My portabella wrap was great and such a different offering. We shared the chocolate stout cake which was rich and good. Would go back anytime and recommend to anyone. Hope this place does great as it deserves to. read more

This is clearly just a drinking bar. The food is pretty bad. The bangers and mash was instant potatoes and a brat cut in half. The Reuben was below average with grocery store feli corned beef, too much kraut and not enough dressing. Way over priced for the quality. read more

Enjoyed a cold fall evening here. Had a whiskey flight served by a very friendly bartender. It was a Tuesday night, so it wasn't at all crowded. Tried the Irish nachos and a Shepard's pie. Not a huge portion, but definitely tasty and not too salty. We would go back. I didn't give them 5 stars only because the atmosphere was a little cold and bare. read more

Lunch-size portions of pub grub (priced appropriately). The "Irish" items including Shepard's Pie and Bangers and mash are uninspired. Each comes with a scoop of mashed potatoes: The Shepard's Pie has a small scoops of beef stew made with what looks like a mix of frozen vegetables. The bangers are closer to bratwurst. The highlight of our meal was the Poutine appetizer. If you are expecting great Irish food, it is not here. They may have spent more attention to the decor (nicely done) that the food. read more

The customer service was good. But the food wasn't. I ordered Shepherd's pie and was served basically a scoop of mashed potatoes with gravy over it for 9$. I told the girl when she checked on us that when I ordered Shepherds pie this is not what I expected. She had many excuses "this is there take on it. the kitchen is very small. real shepherds pie takes too long to make etc. The bar and atmosphere was good but as far as authenticity? My husband and I dined here last week with another couple. We sat out on the patio and waited and waited for someone to come and take our drink order (it wasn't busy inside). Our friend finally went inside to place our drink order and then a waitress came out. We had to ask for silverware and napkins, we had to ask for tartar sauce, and the service was incredibly slow. My husband and I thought the fish was overcooked as well. We also found out later that an additional tip had been added even though we tipped the waitress in cash. Once we finally got to the owner after calling three times, the tip was refunded quickly. This is the second time we've had problems here. The first time was a group of us that had our bills totally screwed up. We had to tell the waitress (a different one than last week) what we ordered and what we should be charged. I have always enjoyed coming to this establishment. I was so happy when it opened because there was nothing like an irish pub in manty. I have proabaly spent hundreds of dollars there since it has opened. I hate to say to say it but I will not be back. Friday I arrived and it wasn't too crowded, but I noticed the bar manager there as well as the owner. They were clearly intoxicated. Hey I don't judge that, why do you think I went there? So I was halfway through my first drink, and the bar manager had stepped away. Again I have been here many times. I know this bar manager likes to control the jukebox all night on or off the clock. Again, if you're willing to pay, go for it. I had put in 2 songs myself, but I wasn't planning to wait for the 10+ songs she had in the jukebox que as I wasn't even planning to stay until bar close. So I, a paying customer, was willing to pay more to hear my songs. Well this bar manager realized I was the individual who skipped her songs and she was quick to tell me she felt that me skipping her songs was rude and disrespectful.... Ok.... Not only did I hear her complain & complain for what felt like an hour. (But was maybe realistically maybe 15 mins?) I asked her what the issue was? She continued to say I was being rude & disrespectful for skipping her songs. During this debacle, she also went behind the bar on numerous occasions. And she was NOT working during this time. She poured free shots for her friends, and grabbed whatever she wanted basically. I have witnessed her do this on numerous occasions outside of Friday night, and other resources since that incident have told me they have seen her do the same. So after she continued to tell me I was rude and disrespectful, I had enough. Yes, i did call her the C word. I wish I could change my vocubarly choice, but in all honesty that's how I felt she was being, and has been almost every time I go to moores. Why I put up with it? Because as I said earlier, I love moores. I enjoy the food, and the bartenders are always super friendly. Well obviously telling a drunk individual the C word, doesn't usually go well. So the owner came over to get involved. I pretty much explained what just happened. I stated I am a paying customer and have been since you've opened, and I would expect more professionalism from the bar manager. If I'm willing to pay more money to skip her songs, what is the issue? It's a public jukebox. The response I got was, mindblowing. I basically was told this is his domain and he runs it as he wants and this particular bar manager can do what she wants. I was.. Shocked. I continued to list all the positive things I do enjoy about moores, and how much my family & friends love it too. Guess that fell on deaf ears. During this time the bar manager then, decided to go behind the bar again, noting again she is off the clock... She grabs the remote and mutes the songs I paid for. I pointed out to the owner what she was doing, and again, he seemed to approve. I told him this is unfortunate and I would never step foot inside this establishment again if that's how they choose to treat their customers. The bar manager then got upset and started coming at me and getting in my face, and he did put his hands on me. Thank god someone came in between us because I would have hated to see the charges against him on that one, because believe me, I would have pressed charges. Another customer who I am now informed is the owners brother, told me I needed to go and never come back and if I didn't leave the cops would be called... Am I living in a parallel universe where THAT is ok? And they wanted to call the cops on me??? What. A. Joke. I will never step foot inside that establishment again. It's a shame he was so intoxicated to not realize how many good things I stated about that place. I am sad that I have to say goodbye to one of my ex-favorite bars in manitowoc. But I will not stand to be treated that way. I accept my mistake on the language I chose, but I have no regrets. I did not go in to a bar looking for trouble and trying to start something. I simply wanted to know what this bar managers issue was since she was making a big stink about it. Lesson learned to just ignore. I hope Moores Irish Pub can not just ignore this complaint. read more
