They do have cool branding (their squiggly logo, the pastel stools, the rectilinear interior design, their gen z instagram) and a fun name (why do I always think it's "Only Friends" as if in reference to the spicy creator platform?). I stopped in for a cup of coffee recently. I just got a regular cup, as I didn't see a menu for specials - but now looking online it seems they have a toasted marshmallow special. Would love to try that! The coffee wasn't my favorite, had a little bit of that sour/acidic taste that some beans do to my palette. Staff was friendly. It's not the most comfortable place to hang out and work with harder seats and small tables. The exterior tables that fold down are fun. I would be willing to come back. Perhaps the secret here is in being a regular, or maybe in their soft serve, which I'd love to try next time.

I had always wanted to try good coffee as I pass by it often. I finally decided to take the leap…read moreafter reading a pleasant review of their strawberry matcha. Their shop is very curated and is definitely has a "recently here because of gentrification vibe." However, I know it's been in Portland for a while and locals swear by it. With shops like these I find it easy to focus and work. The minimalist and industrial decor is a great place for adhd brains like mine. I was warmly greeted by someone at the register. I was interested in so many choices on their matcha. Horchata iced coffe, orange latte, strawberry Ube matcha. I asked the barista if they do exchanges or remakes for drink if the customer dislikes what they ordered. She mentioned they have a NO REMAKES policy. I knew it was time to lock in instead of trying something Willynilly. She was super patient with me as I wondered what to get and discussed my hesitations. She let me sample a tiny amount of the strawberry uber syrup and lavender to make my decision and it helped. I ended up getting and iced lavender matcha and didn't regret it at all. It's been hard for me to find good matcha in Portland and they didn't disappoint. The syrup was blended in well. The flavor of the matcha wasn't too grassy, bitter or powdery. I'm sad it's a seasonal drink because I'll Miss it. I also got an almond croissant, which was good but not mind blowing. I think I'll try the banana bread next time. They have a bathroom, 1 booth, bench seating and wall seating. It would be a bit of a challenge to bring a group larger than 3 here as they're small and busy. Maybe if you sat outside. Glad I gave this place a chance :)

I prefer soy as it steams better IMHO and oat can make me feel a little ill. Still, the coffee was pretty good. Not amazing but I drank it with enjoyment. I asked about food but they were sold out of all pastries. The interior was fairly quiet - there was chill music playing and the decor was fairly sparse. This made for a mentally relaxing cafe experience. They have tables for 2 or 4, with a request to reserve the large tables for groups of 3+. They do not have WiFi. The place was not busy while there - the cold brew showed up very quickly, the latte took longer but it was a reasonable time. The bathrooms are shared with other businesses (like a yoga place) and were clean and quiet, also. Overall, it's decent. The quiet atmosphere bumps it from 3 to 4 that the coffee alone might have merited.

Their simple decor and non complicated menu options makes it hard to feel overwhelmed. I came in 20 minutes after they opened at 7 am. I was greeted by a solo barista who had a grounding and pleasant presence. I got a cardamom latte with oat milk and based on the cardamom taste alone, I'm going to assume it was house made syrup. Very sweet and fragrant, and not overpowering. The espresso had a nice toasted taste that complimented the drink. The espresso gave me nice energy throughout the day and wasn't too acidic The pastry options are plentiful and all look well made. Their orange olive oil cake looked yummy but I opted for the lemon poppyseed scone as a safe choice. It was solid texture, not too soft and tasted more buttery as I ate it. Was also able to save some of it for later as it was filling. Parking wasn't the best as you have to turn left to residential, but it was easy to get a spot. They update their website on whether or not they have WiFi and they don't currently have it. It was a great drink that I would come again to get but I save my 5 star reviews for extraordinary beverages. I'm excited to try a matcha next time.
