Despite living in Hoboken for nearly two decades, this was my first visit to Moonlight Spa. I've gotten massages at several other places in the square mile, but none were ever quite this affordable. Moonlight is a no-frills establishment. They don't have you fill out a health questionnaire when you arrive. There's no choice of scented oils or aromatherapy in the room. It's not fancy or especially inviting inside. The sheets and blankets on the massage tables are worn. They move very fast to get you in and out. That being said, my $55 hour massage was great , much better than the $200 massage I got at SoJo last year. I was able to make an appointment for myself and my husband a day prior - it was a weekday, so I figured they'd have availability. I wasn't expecting them to have a room for couples, but when we arrived, they brought us right to a room with dual massage tables. We were a little early, so they got started with us early - very efficient. The hot stones felt great on my back. The reason I'm knocking them a star is the noise level. We heard a lot of background noise: the spa's phone ringing, employees talking and moving about. They did have relaxing music playing in the room, but it didn't completely tune out the noise outside the curtain. It didn't take away from my massage experience, though. My expectations for this establishment were met. If you just want to feel good without breaking the bank and are OK without all the pomp and circumstance, this is your place. read more

I loved that they took me last minute. I was at work and had a break and needed a quick massage ...I work out a lot so I had someone who did a great job price is affordable for the time. Only thing I can know is it was a little offputting that they are forceful with how much to tip I'll probably be back if it was an urgent need, but otherwise I'll just stick to my normal place by my house read more

I've been coming to this massage parlor regularly, and to be fair, the massages themselves are excellent. The therapists are skilled and professional -- I've never had a single complaint about the actual service. I usually tip well, about 20% -- so for a $50 massage, I typically give a $10 tip, out of appreciation. However, my most recent visit left me genuinely upset. I was short on cash and only had $8 for the tip, so I gave that to the masseuse and let her know I was $2 short but would make it up on my next visit. She was understanding and said okay. But when I went to the front desk to pay and asked for a stamp on my loyalty card (they have a system where after 10 massages, you get one free), the man at the counter spoke to the masseuse in a language I didn't understand. Then he told me they only stamp the card for customers who tip 20%. I explained the situation and reminded him that I always tip properly, and this was just a one-time thing. Eventually, he did stamp the card -- but he made his disappointment very clear with head shakes, sighs, and dismissive body language. It was uncomfortable and, frankly, embarrassing in front of other clients. I was very close to refusing the stamp just to maintain my dignity, but I didn't want to create a scene -- unlike him. What could have been handled with simple professionalism and empathy instead left me feeling disrespected and unappreciated as a loyal customer. Based on the massage alone, I would have gladly given five stars. But customer service matters too -- and this experience was a letdown I can't ignore. read more

The older lady at the front desk is incredibly rude, and the massages vary wildly in quality. The massages were good the first few times I went, then I was given someone who was rough, frequently touched my spine when I asked them not to, and kept trying to talk to me. A lot of the masseuses will also try to talk to you if you speak Chinese, which is not relaxing. Anyway, the last time I went, I arrived two minutes late. After confirming I spoke Chinese, the lady at the front desk started yelling and cursing at me in Chinese for not coming exactly on time and not answering my phone two minutes earlier. Her exact words were "you wouldn't even pick up the phone if you were beaten to death."It was my bad for not hearing my phone vibrate, but I had already confirmed via phone thirty minutes prior, when she called me to confirm (why do we need to confirm so many times anyway?). She proceeded to yell at me in front of customers, the person I came with, and the workers. She yelled at me for not realizing it was the busiest time of the day, so she no longer had spots. It's fine that she gave away my spot since I waslate, but it was shocking for her to be that upset when I was only two minutes late. She then made us wait around for a few minutes before we just awkwardly left. This same lady also previously took $5 from me, either purposefully or by mistake. I wanted to tip $15 on a $50 massage and gave $80, expecting $15 back. I told her I wanted to tip $15, she confirmed that the tip was $15, and then only gave me back $10. I didn't make a big deal, since I thought it was an honest mistake. Now I am seeing it in a new light. read more

I had a wonderful experience with my massage, for which I had a gift card. After presenting it at the front desk I scanned the QR code to provide a tip as I was walking out. The front desk manager literally stopped me and said she had to see me give the tip. I was so confused. She wouldn't let me leave until I made the Venmo payment and was watching over my shoulder as I did it. It made me really uncomfortable even though obviously I was happy to do that especially since it was a gift card payment. It really took away from the relaxing vibe I had just had. As soon as you walk in you feel welcome. She Asked if I had an appt and they said no worries, I waited 10 minutes. She took me in a little room for one person and it was very sanitary. I didn't get the name of the masseuse but she asked if I wanted medium or hard. I felt like she was targeting the spots in my shoulders and neck just as I requested. Not lying I visit this place weekly!!! The massage price can literally not be beat and it's always easy to make an appt (or even walk in if they're not busy). All masseuses are talented but K is my absolute favorite (sorry I can't share her full name, I need her to be available LOL). All massages come with hot stones and a warm towel. So, my spouse and I had a great massage, I have been going here for some time now, but, the front desk is saying that the tip have to be 20% for a two person massage. He said that next time if we could make it right? I did at the same Now, my issue is, when did tipping become something that people have to do? Hence, I already tipped the girls 15% each. It seems as thought these workers are being paid based on tips? The company is responsible for payment of their employees and not the customers. I hope that other customers do not experience this. read more

Ok if you slept wrong and need a quick fix but not for people with actual muscular issues or pain. Could tell my masseuse was not properly trained and didn't listen to what I was asking her to do. Found this place on TikTok and was not disappointed! Called a few days in advance to make a reservation and it was quick and easy. When I arrived I was taken care of right away. came here after my friend recommended it to me after she had gotten a massage here the week before. for 60 minutes you get a full body for $50, i said "sign me up!" parking was easy to find (weirdly) on a sunday evening but i can see that it can definitely be difficult. when you come in, they take you to the room where they leave for you to get undressed (it's up to you if you want to be completely naked or leave your undergarments on). once you've taken your clothes off, they come back in and start the time from there. they really dig deep which is good and ask you if it's the right amount of pressure or not. they go head to toe, rub you with hot rocks and towel too which was nice. definitely a 10/10 experience ! they even have a punch card which is a great incentive to come back for more hahah (if you pay cash it's exactly $50 but if you use card, know that you'll be paying a fee!) read more

Amazing massage ! Loved it! I will be back for sure! The one place that I asked to make sure to massage my toes with my foot massage and they actually listened! I go for foot massage all the time they do more rubbing the skin on calves than massaging feet and they never touch the toes! She did it and I almost fell asleep! I enjoyed it so much I added a body massage and boy did that delight! read more

This place is such a hidden gem. We made a same day appointment for a full body massage. It was incredible. $50 for a 60 min full body massage is unheard of around here.. & for it to be a really good one is amazing! The place is really clean and sanitary. The beds are comfortable and they constantly checked in to make sure I was okay and comfortable. They used hot stones which was included. The women who work here are so thorough and great. I will definitely be back to this place. read more

Dropped in on a Sunday before noon to make an appointment for later that day for two people and luckily, they had availability. Our appointment was at 3:30. We arrived about 10 minutes early, and the receptionist (same person who took our appointment) didn't even address us. He was too busy scheduling other appointments, or calling other people who had appointments that day - telling them they were running 15 minutes behind. At that point, it was safe to assume that our appointment would also be behind, even though he never told us. A one hour massage will be $45 (this is the cash price. Credit card is about $48). The massage includes hot stones, which they don't warn you when they're about to put them on your back, so it was a bit of a shock. After adjusting, it felt nice. There were a few times where my masseuse (I think it was Coco) was going HAM on my spine. I had to tell her to lighten up, which she did. But then she went way too light when she was doing my neck and shoulders -so much so that it just felt like she was lightly brushing them. After I told her to apply more pressure, it was fine from then on. Because it's a pretty good deal and conveniently located, I would give them another try, but I would probably request a different masseuse next time. Tip - they have a stamp card where you visit 10 times and get the 11th for free. read more

Well this spa came out as a pleasant surprise! Of course, the prices were elusive and the major reason for the visit. Located in the prime Washington Street, it's a small facility. We had an appointment, reached 10mins early and we're in for the massage in 5mins. The massage was an invigorating one. I was amazed at the number of locks and nerves the masseuse was able to locate and open up. The hot stone treatment was short but an amazing addition to the usual swedish part. I took the number three train to 14th St., and then a six minute walk. My appointment was set for 10:30 AM. I got there about 15 minutes early and it seemed like I was the only one there. Upon entering the atmosphere is extremely clean, and there was Zen music playing. I greeted the man at the front desk and he did the same and he told me to have a seat in any chair. I did just that then got comfortable. The masseuse brought out a huge basin of water to quickly soak my foot in then he began to work half an hour, each foot and calf. It was very relaxing. I then decided to go on Yelp to check in. After I did it said I get a free 10 minute massage The guy who worked on my feet asked me if I wanted a back massage or another foot massage so I guess you have a choice. I told him a back massage and he placed the chair for me to sit and place my head in what I call the donut hole lol. This was done after my hour 60 minute foot rub. At the end of the foot massage I got a nice hot stone foot and calf rub which was fantastic. At the end of it all I went to go and pay, and I saw on there price list the 60 minute foot rub was $47 so I pulled up their website and I showed them that it says 45 online. She told me $45 in cash $47 by using card so I used my card since I didn't walk with any cash so keep that in mind. I definitely recommend this spot. I'm glad that my friend found it and I followed suit. I will be making this a monthly thing. I can't wait to go back again. So don't hesitate to check them out.

When she realized I saw her, she hid the phone under the sheets. There is no version of this that is acceptable. Texting during a paid massage is blatant misconduct. It didn't stop there. My husband repeatedly asked her to focus on his neck and shoulders and avoid his feet. His requests were ignored. The technique was lazy and mechanical - repetitive forearm circling with little to no pressure, despite requesting deep tissue. He left feeling like he didn't receive a massage at all. When we raised the issue, the owner acknowledged the behavior was "unacceptable" yet offered only a 25% discount - as if actively texting during a massage, ignoring repeated client requests, and delivering a substandard service were minor inconveniences. This wasn't just a bad massage. It was a complete lack of professionalism and accountability. We will not be returning.

Massage By Design is exactly the type of massage we received from Fernando. My iliotibial band and my trapezius were in serious need of deep tissue massage due to sitting in an office chair eight hours a day and running way more than I should be. My girlfriend had her tight upper back worked on as well. My God, both of us felt so much better and our entire body felt brand new afterward. Fernando isn't your typical massage therapist; he explains what he's doing and why he's working on certain parts of your body. At the same time he analyzed my reactions in order to apply pressure where and when needed. Fernando doesn't only rely on reading the body, he has great intuition and being intuitive is really what helps in doing the right job! Would I recommend Fernando? Would I go back to Massage By Design? Heck yeah!!!

His massage techniques are top notch, medium-heavy pressure was perfect. He did a fantastic job of paying attention to kinks and problems in your body. He does a great debrief after the massage to help you understand your problem areas and how to improve your tight points. I've been to many of the nicer massage places in the city and I'd rank him better than those, and he COMES TO YOUR PLACE. Very much looking forward to my next appointment and referring him to my friends and family.

I examined it after I was done to confirm that it was foam covered with a sewn-shut polyester cover that did not unzip or un-velcro for washing. To be absolutely clear, this business puts multiple consecutive client's faces onto a cushion that they do not wash. I have gotten hundreds of inexpensive massages in the city and have never encountered anything other than a foam ring wrapped in a fresh hand towel plus paper. Disgusting. I wasn't expecting spa vibes for $45, but the place was visibly unclean and the staff were noisy. Door onto 14th street sticks and stays ajar every time someone walks in, I got up multiple times to close it to shut out the street noise while waiting to be seen. First staff interaction: Manager: "You don't mind man or woman, right" Me: "Uh, I have a preference." Manager: "...you don't mind man or woman, RIGHT...?" Massage wasn't truly awful, therapist was sweet and communicative, but it was the worst I've ever had with no close peer, not relaxing, didn't feel therapeutically intentional, first time I've ever been repeatedly fingernail pinched and experienced back of the head crotch contact. I know experiences like these are 80% the fault of rapacious landlords, but charge a bit more and give me a towel for my face.
