I recommend seeing Dr Vane for your dental needs. I was in the dental field for 18 years and my regret is not finding a Holistic dentist sooner. Some places claim they're holistic, but don't have the full training and still recommend things not holistic. I had a situation that could have been prevented by seeing Dr Vane. I had an amalgam filling switched to a composite filling in 2017. It hurt me ever since. They weren't able to remedy the issue and a crown was recommended. The crown didn't solve the issue so then a root canal was recommended. I had not 1, but 3 different times where a dentist negligently worked on me causing me pain and thousands of dollars. In the long run, had I seen Dr vane, she could have corrected the original problem (the filling) and I never would have needed a root canal. Which if you haven't watched The Root Cause, I recommend looking it up on YouTube. Long story short, I had to get my root canal tooth extracted as the endodontist perforated my root. Now I need a $5k implant for my missing tooth. Dr Vane is so great at connecting all the dots to what could be going on our health and how it's connected to our mouth. She also found a nasal polyp which I never knew I had and was good info in trying to solve why I get sinus headaches. Check her out! read more

I really liked it there. I went for a cleaning, paid for the package etc. sat in the chair and she said she couldn't do the cleaning because on the caps SHE MADE popped off prior to the appt. She wouldn't replace it for free so I couldn't afford it. I also lost out on my cleaning package and they said no refunds. I lived 1.5 hours away. My cap is still off and can be quite painful. Dr. Vane is the absolute best dentist I've ever been to. She has state of the art equipment and really focuses on a holistic dentistry approach which is hard to find. She is so incredibly thorough, knowledgeable, and does excellent work! She stands behind everything she does. I have had several emergencies over the holidays and times when she isn't in the office and she always makes sure I'm well take care of! Her office and staff are all amazing. They are so kind, have great customer service and take a personal interest in you which is so important when you're uneasy about the dentist. The office feels like a spa! Probably just the front office. I can't imagine they haven't run amok with this zero-star situation. As a new patient, you can't even pay to meet the dentist and hear about their treatment philosophy without x-rays newer than 6 months. It seems like the standard of care in the industry for healthy adults is x-rays every 12 months. Mine are 6.5 months old as I'm looking for a new dentist. I have been going to Moonlight Beach Dental since 2014, when it was bought from my prior dentist. Luckily I have had some amazing dentists over the years, and Dr. Vane turned out to be right in there with the top ones. Her office and staff is superior, a super talented group over the years. She is not the cheapest, nor does she try to be. But, her rates are commensurate with the high level of professional service that she offers. This 0 star review is for their billing and administration, and not their services. If you're a cash customer or use their in house insurance plan, you should be fine. Buyer BEWARE if you use out of network insurance and/or FSA/HSA for reimbursement. I paid a portion of it from my HSA in 2021 and was reimbursed with no issue. My treatment plan continued into 2022, and when I went to pay the balance in 2022, I submitted the invoice and my credit card receipt to my HSA and it was denied citing additional information needed. I reached out to the office for additional information. They provided additional info which I submitted, and was again denied. After talking to my HSA provider, they were specific about what they were looking for and after talking to the office manager Abby, she said that there was nothing more they could offer and did offer to get on a 3 way call to talk with the HSA provider and myself. The other part to this was that a small portion of the total amount was from charges from 2021 that I was never billed for and when I asked via email why that was, I never got a response. There's no worse feeling in the world then feeling hopeless and that how I felt through the billing process. read more

I was referred to Moonlight Beach Dental, I wanted a cleaning and a professional dentist. In all fairness, the person that referred me only was seen for Invisalign. The office is clean, and welcoming. I had an old root canal that Dr. Vane said it wasn't done correctly and I needed to see an endodontic specialist. I went and had an Endodontic Re-Treatment. It was costly, when treatment was completed I went back for a crown. Dr. Vane, while working on my crown, started complaining that they didn't do it right and now she has to fix it, was making gaging sounds because she was offended by the scent. I was told I needed a night guard, I asked if it would interfere with my Aligners, including the bottom teeth where I had the new crown. Yes it did throw off my bite and the bottoms never fitted. I went back, the tech at the time said that's the way it was supposed to fit and it was fine, just needed time. Come back for a cleaning, I explained to the "new" dental hygienist the situation and that I felt my bite shifted and my night guard chipped my tooth. She noted it and Dr Vane came in to check my teeth after the cleaning. While she was checking my teeth, she started to get annoyed as to why my bottom teeth shifted and the chip tooth, she became unhinged.. the dental hygienist walked her out the room and quickly finished with me, I don't know where she went, probably to pet the service dog for anxiety. I wasn't going to write this review, but after seeing a general dentist and orthodontist this week, I have to share. I do not recommend Dr Nicole Vane. I saw her for nearly 9 years- I def gave her a chance. She was OK at her old office on the 101. I loved her staff esp Lani. She also had reasonable pricing and took insurance. But then things went bad when she moved to her spendy, hip remodeled space. The staff was always different, rotating door..hmmmm. My husband and I rarely saw her at visits. I thought this was normal- until I switched dentists. Now I see my dentist every 6 months along with the hygienist visit. Do not expect that here. Do not expect eye contact, or questions like "hi, how are you?" LOL- she talks to the staff about you like you are not sitting right there. She is above normal pricing for our community. (I get it, i am sure it's expensive paying for her spa-like beachy space/ it is beautiful). I feel scammed with her discount aligner therapy. I signed up for Invisalign, but received Sure Smile, a cheaper aligner that is not scalloped to fit, so very uncomfortable. I saw her twice during 9 months of treatment, and once I had to beg for a "couple minutes to talk". She didn't like that. She claims she helps folks with anxiety- yet when I was having concerns and questions about Sure Smile aligners and wanted to chat with her..my provider..she called me out on my "anxiety disorder". After I finished 9 months of Sure Smile aligners with Moonlight Beach Dental, I saw my new dentist. The plan was after I finished ortho work, I would complete the restorative work with veneers. My new dentist said "No- sorry, your bite is not right! Your front teeth are touching and you now have an open posterior bite!" Frustrated, I made an appointment with an orthodontist for a second opinion. He was VERY familiar with some of Vane's orthodontic work, as other patients have come to him to fix what she has done. "This (open bite) is what happens when inexperienced providers play with orthodontics". I now have to do Invisalign all over again because of Vane's incompetence. Not to mention the time, pain and out of pocket expense. Insurance only pays once lifetime for orthodontics. read more

I was told that I had periodontal disease and that I would need to come for 2 sessions of cleaning involving local anesthesia, each visit costing over a thousand dollars. Since I had no symptoms of periodontal disease such as bleeding gums, receding gums, pyorrhea, etc. and my previous hygienists had always praised my dental hygiene, I decided to go to another dental clinic. Unsurprisingly, the dental hygienist there found that my gums were in excellent condition. Just moved to Encinitas & switched dentists for the first time in 30 years - decided to give Moonlight Beach Dental & Dr. Vane a try based on good reviews & convenient location. The technology in their office is very advanced, with high-tech imaging so the Dr. can show you images of your teeth while in the chair. They also have a TV mounted on the ceiling so you can keep your mind distracted while getting work done. I ended up needing a filling and that went smoothly - pain free, efficient, and no surprises. I have several crowns from my previous dentist (which required 2 week return with temp crown). Hopefully I never need another one, but knowing that Moonlight Dental has same-day crowns is comforting to know that the crowning process can be condensed to a single visit. So far so good and will be returning for future dental work! read more

By far the best of hygienist I've ever had work on my teeth. I was called back 4 weeks after my deep cleaning as a follow-up to look at my gums. Cassie did an extra polish and scaling, for no charge. She also informed me what I needed to do to prevent further staining and took a caring assessment of where I was at. Super grateful I found this office and especially Cassie. Here is the draft post that I didn't post until today. Please note that this is from two years ago as it was in my draft because Dr. Vane replied to my emails, but she didn't finish replying to my last few emails, and be sure to read my update: I don't really want to post this review, but I have to do what I had to since they didn't reply by acknowledging my input. First of all, there are MANY things I really LOVE about this place (hands down), but in the end, I didn't have such a great experience that left me puzzled. Last Nov, I had a consultation with Dr. Vane and Sam as I am all about holistic dentistry. As there are many claims about root canals causing cancer, I wanted to figure out my next step about my existing root canal. It was a challenging process for me due to my budget. They gave me a few options, but I was not financially ready so it gave me time to think and figure out. Fast forward to today, I became financially ready. I called and I said I am ready. They referred me to see Dr. Herold - in which I did. He shared his opinion. I decided to have my crown replaced with nonmetal and forgo a laser root canal due to no infection in my root canal. Then, I contacted Dr. Vane's office and talked with Sam. I asked some questions just to gain my knowledge as I was still learning about such things. She scheduled me an appointment for my crown to be replaced. I was really excited! I even shared my joy with my close friends who are so into wellness. As my appointment came near, I happened to have serious thoughts about having my root canal extracted after I saw some women posting IGs about their root canals being removed, but was it so NUTS of me to take this possible route? My husband finally made peace with my possible decision as he didn't really want me to do that. As I asked two other persons for their input and they said JUST LEAVE it alone as long as I get it tested from time to time, I was curious about Dr. Vane's view just to make sure again so I contacted Dr. Vane's office, but Sam was busy. So I shared my message asking if it was worth it to go for extraction or just stick to my original plan when it comes to what's the BEST for my health in the long run. I just wanted to be reassured. Next day, I got a surprising message that said: "Good Morning, I understand your concerns about crowns being potentially harmful for your health and body, but we have never heard such a thing. I understand you want the most conservative treatment possible, and an extraction would not be Dr Vane's number one option. At this point Dr Vane does not feel comfortable treating you because of all your concerns and personal research. Dr Vane is a widely knowledgeable doctor and we do not feel that you trust her expertise. We hope you are able to find a doctor that aligns with your values and concerns. We will be happy to email all your x rays to a provider of your choice." I was like what the heck as I didn't EVEN talk about crowns being a concern while it was supposed to be about my root canal. It would be a big joke if I was concerned about "CROWNS" - I called again and learned that my appointment was cancelled. They cancelled without double checking with me or anything. They made such a big assumption that I don't trust Dr. Vane while I simply reached out to them like they are my family. I also learned that I am placed on a waiting list for a new patient appointment - regardless of the fact that I saw Dr. Vane for a limited exam last November and I even had an appointment for my crown to be replaced. It felt like they didn't want to deal with me and they just decided to treat me like a new patient. It made me feel so lousy and it made me feel like I am such a crazy lady. I contacted my close friend to make sure - what I did was okay or what? She assured me that I did what I could do as a cautious patient. I really wanted to resolve this matter by speaking out and trying to get ahold of Sam, but I tried to call at the time Sam would have been in the office, but they didn't take my calls. Trying to get ahold of her by making many calls made me feel so uncomfortable even though I knew that I had to speak out so I stopped. I didn't get to talk with Sam who I thought I had such a good relationship with so I couldn't be able to ask her what went wrong in the first place. I had a very bad experience at Moonlight Dental. In summary, they are very, very expensive, Dr. Vance and her dental assistants are very poor communicators and I seriously question some of her procedural choices and methods. Following is my recent experience. (There were so many procedures and appointments that some details may be chronologically off.) In April this year I went to Dr, Vane about a problem with a permanent bridge over one tooth gap. She suggested "deep cleaning," removing a tooth and inserting two adjacent implants to which I agreed. She also suggested two lower crowns which I opted to consider at another time. The cost for the removal of a molar and two implants alone was $19,323. Including the cleanings and lower crowns, the total for everything was $27,192. I agreed to do the implants first. Dr, Vane pulled my tooth, gave it awhile for my gum to heal and proceeded to insert two zirconium implants (although I was under the impression they were going to be titanium.) Unfortunately the implants were covered by temporary caps which rocked and broke the fusion with the bone at the slightest touch. I could not eat, even very carefully, on one side of my mouth without disturbing the implant. I was supposed to not touch., graze or put pressure on the caps for 6 to 8 weeks for the implants to take. The implant failed. After a stern lecture from Dr Vane, she attempted another implant. However, perhaps through frustration, she savaged my gums in the process, causing me extreme pain until I saw her the following week. I had developed a massive infection and that implant failed. The infection was very unusual and I believe it was due to Dr Vane's rough procedure. After healing, the bone would no longer support one of the implants. So she installed a cantilevered implant using one implant on one side to support the two caps. This, of course, was very unstable due to the leverage on the unsupported cap. I believe that even if the implant was successful, the leverage and pressure on the unsupported side would eventually fail from this very questionable procedure. Dr, Vane did this without explaining to or discussing it with me! I learned of it after I asked after it was done. This, of course failed and the bone by this time had been so compromised that it obviated my ability to have implants. The conclusion then was that I could either attempt a bone graft with a surgeon, at an additional high cost, with no assurance of success, or I could have a bridge, an option Dr. Vane never mentioned before. However, to ensure the integrity of the bridge, she said I would need to cap most of my teeth to correct my bite at a cost of $47,000, ( yes, this figure is correct). She did offer a credit of $9,030 for the failed implant work for which I had already paid.. During this process, Dr. Vane blamed my problems on me: teeth grinding, sinus infection, discontinuance of cpap machine, careless chewing. (I have had 4 previous implants without issue.) As I mentioned, Dr. Vane was a very poor communicator as also were her assistants. They responded to questions but never volunteered information. In many cases, i did not know what questions to ask. Most of the patient / dentist communications including procedures were referred to the office manager, Abby. Charming but after the fact and not the dentist. As a result of the misadventures with Dr. Vane, I cannot have implants which was my original intention. I have changed to another dentist at Scripps, highly rated and recommended. We are exploring a bridge (without the need to cap 21 teeth at a cost of $47,000) for a fraction of the cost. Apart from my implant issue, Dr Vane suggested an expensive and painful two session "deep cleaning" process. I suspect she suggests it with all new patients as she did with my wife, also a new patient. Within the three months since I had the procedure, I lost or had dislodged 5 fillings or veneers. She says it has no relation to the deep cleaning but the fillings and veneers had been there for many years without any issues. I don't believe it is a coincidence to lose five in the few months since I had the deep cleaning. I would strongly not recommend Moonlight Dental. read more

So I was told I needed some major work done. I'm horrified of the dentist, so I knew I needed the best of the best to make this a semi-pleasant experience. I found Dr. Vane and let me tell you - she is the Ritz Carlton of dentists. She can do it all. I couldn't believe the technology she had in her office. She literally cleaned out my *extremely decayed* tooth with a LASER (and a little drilling) but STILL!! That tooth may have been a full-on root canal if it weren't for Dr. Vane. She was obviously extremely well-educated and experienced in her craft. I overheard her talking about, at least, 3 different seminars she's attended recently. She also mentioned a group text, which she's in with a number of other doctors, where they discuss different procedures and share information. She's not only great at what she does, but she also LOVES what she does. And it's obvious. A little more about my experience - I had the option of watching a movie on the ceiling while I was laying down or while I was sitting up in my chair. It was so distracting, I noticed the majority of my anxiety was gone. Her lovely assistant Diana gave me headphones so I could zone in on the movie and not be forced to hear anything else (so nice). I also had the option of aroma therapy and wrist vibrators which are meant to calm your nervous system. Aubry was amazing with my teeth cleaning. She's explained everything and told me to just wave if I felt any sort of discomfort so she could stop what she was doing. I just had a pretty terrible experience there on Monday March 9th and I wanted to make sure anybody else who is concerned about Covid-19 is warned. After I had defended myself against a bare-handshake from the hygienist, the dentist Dr Vane snapped off her plastic gloves and grabbed my hand without any warning! I was mortified and asked the receptionist if they had hand sanitizer, and she looked puzzled and finally said "no, we should order some." So the entire office had given zero thought to containing the spread of the virus! On a personal note, I asked for a refund after prepaying for two cleanings, but was told that since I wouldn't be back, they would charge me for xrays and Dr Vane's visit, thus doubling what otherwise would have been the cost of the first visit. You may have a different experience at Moonlight Dental, but I am counting the days until the threat of exposure from their negligence has passed. read more

Moonlight Beach Dental Clinic is just amazing!! No where else have we found such kind, genuine and holistic care and expertise as well as a modern and beautiful clinic. Dr. Nicole Vane and her whole team truly make a difference in dental care! My husband and I gladly drive nearly 4 hours in each direction just to have Dr. Vane and her team care for us and our teeth. I found Dr. Vane after years of postponing my wisdom tooth extractions because I didn't understand why I needed to remove them, and I feared what could go wrong during the procedure. Most dentists saw that I had wisdom teeth and simply confirmed the blanket statement that "wisdom teeth can cause problems down the road and must be removed," but did not elaborate on why. Dr. Vane, however, examined each tooth individually and explained to me which of my teeth needed to be removed, which ones could stay, and why. My great nightmare of so many years actually turned out to be a smooth, successful, and even relaxing surgery... what a relief!! A couple of years ago, I had an accident that damaged my front teeth. I live in Texas, so I just went to a local dentist and they put in white fillings. Over time, these fillings slowly chipped away and I knew I needed better coverage. I also wanted to smile again - I was so embarrassed with my smile. I had lost my confidence and let that define who I was as a person. Last week, I visited San Diego and saw Dr. Vane for veneers on my front teeth. I really wish I had seen her sooner! My teeth were chipped so badly, that I really needed crowns for better coverage! I was extremely anxious; I mean these are my front teeth, what everyone sees first. After panicking in the dental chair before the procedure, Dr. Vane made sure that I was 100% comfortable and that the procedure was 100% pain-free. Dr. Vane was able to have the crowns made while I was in the chair - no need for several office visits flying back and forth to California. The whole experience with her and the dental assistants was amazing! And this was just the experience. My teeth look phenomenal! Dr. Vane did such a fabulous job making the crowns look like my actual teeth: color, texture, shape. My gums healed perfectly and no one would even know they were crowns. I had a very, VERY bad experience with Dr. Vane. To put it bluntly- Dr. Vane has no business working with the general public or directly with people. She is abrasive, rude, dismissive and disrespectful--- all to say the least. It became clear during my visit that I would not return nor let this woman touch me with a ten foot pole. Simple concerns I brought up were not addressed or she dismissed me and told me I could go see xyz specialist.... However, her website says she specializes in xyz... which is it? She then tried to have the people in the front of the office charge me triple what I was quoted. Why? Because I asked questions? Because you brand yourself as holistic when you're nothing of the sort. You just offer *some* holistic services? I was gabbing with a few friends and they've heard of her, some have even been! Sounds like she can't keep a steady staff for even a few months. Always a new assistant or hygienist or receptionist... even the office manager! I felt horrible for the assistant (I forgot her name) but I had one last final question for the doctor (she left the room without a warning or even a game plan for my next step) and I hear her around the corner to get me out of the office that I'd been here long enough. I have my stop watch. 72 minutes I was here, maybe if I was here 73 minutes you would have convinced me to let you do the work I need but you convinced me otherwise. Run far far far away. (Also, locals talk, we know each other, and she's having (albeit paying) people to post her positive reviews. Notice the two 5 stars after the really bad implant review? I've gone here for a long time, and it has definitely gone downhill over the past few years. The front desk is great, but the techs, hygienists, and Dr. Vane need to work on their people skills. I feel like I am walking into a sorority house. I am all for holistic dentistry, but holistic does not equate pseudoscience. I had a hygienist tell me that my anaphylactic allergies were likely because of my poor gut health and could be helped by drinking bone broth and other protocols. This is extremely incorrect, and it's frightening that a healthcare provider would spew such false information. Switched to Solana Beach Smiles and I couldn't be happier. read more

I went to Dr. Vane over 10 years ago and she changed my smile and my life! She is an amazing dentist. She always comes up with creative solutions and is honest about what you do and don't need. I truly trust her and know that she has my best interest at heart and that she will do incredibly skilled work. You can tell that dentistry is her passion and she is always learning and refining her expertise. I recently visited Dr. Vane to have my bonding touched up. Not only was she the same as I remembered, but her staff is awesome! Sam helped me from beginning to end. She explained the entire procedure to me and answered any questions I had. I researched dentists, read many reviews, and had such high hopes for this place. Maybe it was just an off day for them. I didn't get a positive vibe from the dentist or hygienist. Rather they both seemed stressed and hurried. Also, the layout of the whole office is very cramped in an open design so you hear all conversations loudly. Amazing staff and doctor! I drove from LA with my 8 month old and my husband and it was totally worth it. Dr. Vane took care of my broken molar in 1 visit. No follow up was needed since they were able to 3D print a crown at the office. I was so surprised that she was able to save my tooth, I'm not even sure I thanked her. So, if you're reading this Dr. Vane, thank you so much! You're awesome and my molar feels great!Furthermore, her dental hygienist Annie diagnosed problems with my bite and breathing that I suspected but no other dentist had mentioned. read more

I've had alot (ALOT) of experience with dentists and dental practices in San Diego; and I must say Dr Vane or Dr. V as I like to refer to her is simple "TOPS"!! From the first time that I walked into Moonlight Beach Dental , I knew this was going to be something completely different and was I right..! To be greeted with an Hello!! and a friendly smile is so nice. Her assistants and front office staff are really kind and helpful wanting to make my appointment as comfortable and pleasing as possible. Her dental assistants really go the extra mile. From the time I sit in the chair, A hugh screen on the wall showing amazing scenery or incredible surfing videos along with ambient music playing in the background throughout my visit, really takes the edge off of being at the dentist, if you know what I mean?! With every appointment I've had with Dr. V. she has been nothing but amazingly caring and informative about what is the best thing or approach to do for the dental work that was ahead of me. And one of the nicest and what I feel is really important... Dr. V listens to how I feel and what I would like to be done. Of course with my limited knowledge of dentistry... I find that her advice and recommendations are always the better way to go. So if you are looking for something completely different and Holistic then you've come to the right place. I also would like to add Dr. Vanes after appointment care is simply AMAZING! I am talking complete care from supplements to a personal phone call ( after hours ) to check in and see how I am doing. I've had a couple great experiences here at Moonlight Beach Dental, I found it very impressive they were able to diagnose and create a permanent crown for me all within an hour or two. Sam was amazing she made sure to ask how i was doing multiple times while Dr Vane was working on me. This is very I operant to me and makes it not uncomfortable to get a little break in for my mouth. Dr Vane does great clean work very professional! My hygienist Aubrey is BY FAR the smoothest operating hygienist I've ever had. She is so careful overall this is a great office! read more

Moonlight Beach does a decent job overall, never had an issue with the technician's or Dr. Vane's analysis, but there have been some front desk issues. My wife had an appointment a few months ago where she needed to buy some cleaning gel that she had purchased before, but for some reason on this day, Dr. Vane thought the gel cost was MUCH higher than what we had been paying, and would only sell us a single tube at the normal price. This was late in the day, so they had no way to verify at the time what the actual cost was if it's wasn't what we had paid previously. But next morning we get a call, and an apology. The gel was still the same price, so Dr. Vane's panic about losing money was over nothing. Not the worst thing in the world since she did sell us one tube, but seemed a bit unprofessional to not be aware of your product costs, and give something, then take it back at the last minute. The second issue is with appointment times. We are very far away, so tend to schedule late in the day to avoid taking a big chunk out of the workday. Moonlight informed me during my last appointment that I needed to schedule earlier since they aren't doing the late appointments anymore. Ok, but today they told my wife they had re-scheduled her appointment without her consent, and refused to see her at the agreed upon time. If you want to institute a new policy going forward, no problem, but you shouldn't force people to re-schedule appointments you agreed to without notice. So while the services offered are all fine, the professionalism is not always there, and the customer service could use some work. read more

Dr. Nicole Vane is a wonderful, intelligent and beautiful person inside and out! I came in to her office after not seeing a dentist for several years and I felt completely taken care of from day one by all members of her team with and all my fears quickly addressed. I have been extremely satisfied with all treatments. Dr. Vane stands out because she truly listens and has an incredible passion for the health of her patients. I come from a holistic background and was thoroughly impressed with the cutting edge techniques used including ozone, PRF, photobiomodulation and biocompatible materials. It is clear that she is dedicated to educating herself and her patients and providing the best care she can with the most current research. On top of this, her office has a calm, clean and modern aesthetic and they even offer organic coffee and teas.
