One of our citrus trees died and we decided to not only have it removed but also to replace it. We moved to this area a year ago from Colorado, so we know next to nothing about best choices for our location. The Moon Valley Nursery - Cottonwood location (Surprise) is very close to us, and we had even visited the store a few times just to look at the beautiful stock and purchase some supplies, so we knew we would go there for help in fixing our yard. STEVEN LOPEZ was our first contact. He listened to us, what we wanted to accomplish, our budget, our preferences, etc., met us at our home to have a first-hand knowledge of what would be best for us, and then we went to the nursery to complete our consultation. He was knowledgeable in helping us select the best trees (3) for the size of our yard and what we wanted - shade, beauty, homes for the birds, dog-friendly, easy to care for, low water needs, NO THORNS, and able to withstand full sun exposure since our house faces east and the western sun exposure can be brutal in our back yard. He also recommended that we get a crown raise and lower limb removal on our remaining older grapefruit tree, which was in need of some love and attention. We could easily see that he knew what he was talking about. Our project took 4 visits: 1st, tree removal of dead tree and upkeep of remaining grapefruit tree; 2nd, stump grinding by Robert Wright and his team member and then Richard came for the soil injections for a huge shrub and our remaining citrus tree, and then the big planting of our 3 trees, a Sissoo and 2 Thevetias. HUGE SHOUTOUTS to the crews: Removal and crown raising: HUMBERTO M. and his crew; Stump Grinding (impressive safety operation): ROBERT Wright (supervisor) AND his associate (did I mention the safety procedures followed because that equipment looked scary); RICHARD who did the soil injections - and answered a lot of question on watering and fertilizing and hard caliche soil, and AARON and his planting crew who sometimes had to use jack hammers to help dig the holes for the trees. And NICK POTTER. I especially liked that there was plenty of customer service contact during all of this - we were notified the day before each service on the time frames to expect someone, we were called within 20-30 minutes to let us know the technicians were on their way, all servicemen were easily identifiable and courteous and professional, and all the men were considerate and answered lots of questions on what they were doing and why they were doing it, etc. IMPORTANT: MVN called 811 for us and scheduled the utilities marking service to come to our house to mark the utility lines for us. How's that for Customer Service? Also, at the time of consultation and purchase, we were given a folder with not only our invoice but also planting and watering guides with a lot of information, and I have looked at that packet every day to reinforce the watering information and soil care info for my new trees, and also to protect what is already in my yard. I recently went to Moon Valley nurseries Surprise AZ location for a tree and some other plants to replace what we had lost from the extreme heat we had this summer. We needed a considerable amount of replacement plants and wanted to make sure we chose correctly to avoid repeat loss. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted by Mike Perez and Bianca who listened to what we were trying to accomplish and proceeded to walk us all over the property showing us our best options. They helped us pick the correct plants according to sun/shade exposure as well as keeping us in our price range. They were amazing. We purchased our plants and scheduled a date for our tree to be delivered and planted. The date of the delivery came and I called to confirm delivery and see if they could give me a time. Sheldon answered and proceeded to find out when my delivery was taking place and followed up with me later in the day to make sure we had been taken care of. When Michael (who is new to AZ from Chicago) and his delivery team arrived to plant our tree they were all wearing masks and planted our tree quickly and efficiently. Michael told me how to care for the tree over the next couple weeks and made sure I didn't have any questions before leaving. The overall professionalism of each person we encountered throughout this process was exceptional and extremely impressive. I don't make it a practice to take the time to leave reviews-positive or negative but given the incredibly positive experience we had I couldn't let it go unsaid. First half of a tree removal + replacement, haven't had the actual work done yet. I worked with Pat M. in scheduling the removal of a huge eucalyptus tree in my front yard and he was awesome. I showed him a picture of it and with just one look gave me a totally reasonable estimate right off the bat. Plus he helped me pick out a replacement tree that would be easy for me to keep alive (I have the opposite of a green thumb) and two additional cacti. I was in and out in about 15 minutes, too, which is shocking. Everything's set and scheduled and I can't wait to see everything situated. (I'll update my review to include the service portion afterwards). UPDATE: The removal/install teams were great. They always called 20-30 min before arrival and always showed up when they promised. They were quick and knowledgeable, making sure that everyone was on the same page each step of the way. My yard looks great now and I didn't have to babysit anyone to get the work done. Joe and his team; Tim, Jason, Zach, Xavier and others made our huge landscape rehab the easiest it gets. Our building has 20+ year old irrigation, cut communication wires, bad valves, mixed gravels (in both color and size). Basically you name it; we had it. Joe worked with myself and the executive director of the building. Meeting every week and delivering an accountable timeline which is more than I can say for most contractors used on a property this size and a rehab of this scale. There are always snags and setbacks, I prepare for that and try to foresee them to encourage project fluidity. It was refreshing to see that in a landscape contractor as well. I am extremely detail oriented and not an easy customer for contractors that do not give me 100%, I don't write reviews but felt compelled to share the wonderful relationships and quality of both finished product and workmanship we received and together created on this commercial job. From the moment I walked through the gate, the great service began! Welcomed with a smile, and asked how could they help assured me I was in the right place. It was a great desire to bless my wonderful mother with some citrus trees for quite some time, and wanted everything to be perfect. I had always seen Moon Valley Nurseries ads come in the mail and also herd they had a great reputation. Chris walked me and my mother to the citrus tree area giving great suggestions they whole way. When I couldn't make up my mind he suggested a blood orange tree and even had one on hand so me and my mother could taste it. I left feeling confident that I had made the right decision. Sheldon contacted me the following week to schedule the delivery and planting date. From our first conversation Sheldon was very professional and answered all of my questions. We had a service contract with Moon Valley on our 4 young fruit trees...I want to share a recent experience. Izzy came for our last visit and was absolutely fantastic. While inspecting our trees she provided guidance explaining everything she was doing, from mulching, wrapping the trunks, putting down gravel fertilizer...explaining where to sprinkle how to spray with water after etc. She explained our water schedule advising us to install 4 drips per tree not 2. She covered everything, how to put netting around the whole tree or just the fruit itself to keep birds away and more. Our trees were thriving but after Izzy's visit it was clear they could have been growing and producing more fruit if the right instructions were explained or written down more clearly. She made a huge difference and we appreciate her time effort and clear instructions. Hopefully our future visits are consistent like hers...Thank you Izzy. Today services from Moon Valley Tree Division was scheduled. through setting and confirming and follow up calls from the two describing their assigned services and a scheduled time of cruise arrived at different times and proceeded by placing work cones around their trucks. The teams went right to work in the backyard trimming cleaning and removing a shrub and then the next team member arrived and did the same procedure for a deep fertilization Our yard is so very much enjoyed by family and friends. We always receive compliments for the presentation design cleanliness about surroundings and we have Moon Valley to thank for five star service delivered with each and every visit. Their team is efficient very knowledgeable very well detailed as well as professional. Not Soo please with moon valley nursery. The only reason me and my wife came here was because of the reviews. Horrible customer service and management went there and few employee saw us and ignore us like we didn't belong there. Second when we did get help we still decided to go ahead and purchase 2 trees. After two day went by and realized that our landscaping wouldn't be done in time for our trees we had to cancel. We called multiple time and no answer, even left messages and still no call backs. Finally someone called us and we explain that we would like to cancel our order they asked why and unrelated Questions. At this point they said that Corporate will get in contact with us. 3 weeks later still no email nor calls from anyone and money has not been reimbursed. PEOPLE PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THEY DNT LIKE YOU TO CANCEL AND YOU WILL WAIT FOR YOUR $ TO BE REIMBURSED. 3.5 WEEKS AND STILL WAITING! read more

I big thank you to Luis Leyva for taking time to give my friend and I complete tour of the grounds and education on the variety of flora. We visited Moon Valley on a whim in hopes of getting some inspiration for our yards; we definitely got that and more! Luis spent over an hour answering our numerous questions, teaching us about the different trees and plants, and helped us come up with more design ideas. He offered to continue with the design process either by visiting our homes or via photographs. He shared his personal and professional experience with a number of trees and plants. Luis is knowledgeable, patient, helpful and kind and l plan to continue working with him as I turn my yard into my personal oasis. Thank you, Luis! We recently visited Moon Valley Nurseries on N. 7th Street to find some plants for several planters in our home and some shrubs for our tennis court area. Luis promptly greeted us and asked a few questions. He directed us over to the desert plants that he thought would do the best in our chosen area. I was surprised at how quickly we were able to come up with a great looking combination of plants. We decided to take advantage of their planting and delivery services as well and got a great deal on 31 orange jubilee shrubs, 9 agave plants and 5 yucca plants. The team that came out with the delivery and to plant everything were fantastic; very courteous as SO fast! They were done with everything (including watering and clean-up) in about an hour. Its been a week since everything went in and the plants look great and are thriving. Quality plants, excellent service, great prices. read more

We had a 35' tree in our backyard that was slowly leaning and losing limbs during storms. Whoever planted it, did so in the corner, too close to the fence. John stopped by and noted that the tree was also infested by sharpshooters, and had several cracks that allowed rain water to collect, ultimately rotting the tree. We also discussed replacing the tree, and John helped us decide on the best species for our yard and where to plant it for maximum shade. The crews that removed the tree and ground the stump were both friendly and professional. They took great care in safety and cleaning up each time. We requested quotes from a couple of companies, and Moon Valley was the only one that stopped by to do an inspection. The others requested photos but that was never enough for a written quote. Moon Valley may not be the least expensive company, but you really do get what you pay for. read more

Bryan and Jorge in the Tree Care Division did a great job completely removing a large tree stump that was cut down by another company who said they couldn't remove it totally since is was too close to my pool wall. Both Bryan and Jorge removed the entire stump and cleaned up the area before they left. Jhonny the supervisor stopped by to make sure that all was taken care of and to see if additional help was needed. Megan and Tammy in the administrative office were incredible with their follow through and communicating with me on the status of the job. I had challenges with the sales team in communication and clarifying my tree and plant purchase items and subsequently cancelled the purchase since I was not comfortable moving forward with the purchase. The team in the care division renewed my faith in working again with Moon Valley Nursery. read more

Our aging saguaro lost two huge arms in the middle of the night - onto a neighbor's yard. John S. came out the next day to evaluate the situation. After finding some hollow spots and rot, he suggested the remaining saguaro be removed. A six man crew headed by Nestor B. arrived a week later. There were citrus trees and other cacti close to the saguaro, and the removed pieces were to fall into both neighbors' yards. This made the job tricky and difficult.Hauling would be through one neighbor' s yard. The process was explained to both our neighbors. The crew were courteous, skilled and very efficient. All remnants and the stump were removed without any damage to surrounding trees and cacti. The work area was left in a clean and orderly condition. We were very satisfied with this professional job. read more

This is my 2nd review of MVN within 2 weeks, but after being in this house for a year and getting a feel for the landscaping, I could see what needed to be maintained/replaced/etc. The main tree in the back is a wonderful Sissoo that provides much shade but needed trimming to stay healthy. SHOUT OUT to JOSE O. and his 2 crewmen for the efficient and thorough job of trimming the Sissoo and the clean-up afterwards. MVN spoils with their high customer service - the email on the night before service to confirm appointment, etc., the call from the crew foreman before they arrive, the quality of the work, and the follow-up from customer service. This is our second time purchasing a Christmas Tree from Moon Valley. This year was very last minute - we walked onto the lot and were immediately greeted by a representative who wanted to know what our wants and needs were. As we were walking through the lot looking at tree options any other team member that noticed us smiled and said hello as well - you can tell they are focused on good customer service which is something that you don't see very often anymore so I really appreciated that.
