So gross! The woman was preparing food in the bathroom sink. The table had paper towel around the hole in the table for ur head. The 30 min "massage" was very odd .. she burped a lot, moved the table with me in it, used way too much oil, barley used any pressure , walked out of the room to talk to someone.. came back chewing food. Then charged me $50!! The price used to be $30/ for 30 min. Then when doing the tip she put $15 .. I said no.. she acted like she didn't understand me. I thoroughly enjoyed my massage. I used their promotional price they advertised on their website and was nervous they wouldn't honor it from previous reviews I read. But everything worked out well. The massage was very intense and deep, though I asked the masseuse to lighten up a bit since it was almost too much pressure for me. The masseuse was very professional, quiet but observant. Expect a language barrier and just proceed to disrobe and lie face down on the table under the blanket by the time they knock on the door. I really wanted to write a strong recommendation but just couldn't do it. Like others, I used a groupon for a 1.5 hr massage. Not sure if that factored into the quality of my services. I was excited to get a strong massage and I'm open to different techniques. I am generally pretty communicative about the pressure level and what areas of the body need the most attention. Overall, I liked the massage. It was generally the right amount of pressure and worked in the areas I needed. But I was very frustrated at the laissez-faire attitude about client attention. During my massage, my masseuse left the room no less than 8 times to answer the front door (several times) and handle new clients, get an additional towel, get hot rocks and other materials. She was out of the room for somewhere between 10-15 min in total. When my massage was over, the clock showed it was 3 min before the official time was up. Normally, I wouldn't care so much about 3 whole minutes but I felt like there was a lack of attention and I received at least 15 minutes less of a massage than what I had paid for. I realize that she was the only one running the shop when I was there, but it was handled poorly and the time should have been extended to compensate for helping other people. So I feel mixed- I hope this was an anomaly but I really don't know. read more

I got a prenatal massage here, I made an appointment on the phone and when I showed up, they were confused and there was a huge language barrier. She wanted me to lay on my back, I was 35 weeks pregnant (you aren't supposed to do that) and she seemed annoyed when I wanted to lay on my side with a pillow in between my legs. The bright light was still on when I was getting my massage, there was no music playing, she kept yawing super loud, and talking to the girl from the other room. It was not relaxing. You could hear the other girl eating and making food in the next room. I was not happy with my experience and they said "do you have more cash" after already giving them a tip on card . I just got a massage I asked for hard pressure their website says it's Chinese traditional massage and it was a rub me down with oil no pressure I talked to the woman a couple of times told her to put pressure but that wasn't the case I really didn't want to pay to be honest but I did. They take credit card now , they also upped the price : 30 min massage $50.. but still worth it . They give excellent massages deep pressure they work their butts off to give you a good massage. She did hit stone massage with out me even asking.. amazing ! They clean you up after all that oil too! Just be pre paired for zero frills. It is not very glamorous ..you may see bags of dirty laundry ..dirty brooms and mops in the bathroom. However it beats other massage places that talk your ear off the entire time and give you a lousy Massage . I hate to say this but I had the worst massage of my life here. The masseuse was rushing the whole time, throwing my arm and leg around, barely put in any effort and finished the massage 15 minutes early after I paid for a whole hour. I was actually left speechless. Not relaxing AT ALL. I would not recommend this establishment as they seem to only want to money and not put any care into whether or not you enjoy your massage. I went in for 60 minutes foot reflexology. They asked me if I wanted 30 minutes of reflexology and 30 minutes of massage and I said no. But that is what I got. The reflexology consisted of just rubbing my feet, not any emphasis on acupressure points. The massage part was OK but just OK. I think this has been one of the worst massages I've ever received. The lady was more of rubbing me than massaging me and pretty much used her elbow to do so. And when she was using her hands, I asked for harder pressure and she said that was her hardest and even men can't take it cause it hurts. I'm not a rock so there's no way she was giving me hard pressure. Then come the hot towel. There was no acclimating to the change of temperature. She just dropped it on my skin and when I complained that it was too hot, she replied with, oh it's still hot? And still left the towel on me. She used hot rocks and again, it's rubbing motion for a good 10 mins at least. The last 5-10 mins she was rubbing my hair. Not massaging my scalp. Literally rubbing my hair. If they went to school for this, I'd tell them to ask for their money back! This was a gift from my college age student daughter (who only works PT) and I feel bad because she wasted her money. I was actually reading the reviews while I was getting the massage just to see if I'm hallucinating with this experience!! And oh was I waiting for them to say anything about the tip. I gave her $5. She's lucky I still did. That same night, my right arm was throbbing. I don't know what the hell she did to me! I've been stressed and knotted everywhere. She just gave me more knots! read more

I did a walk-in assuming all massage places would be comparable, but I was wrong . The place doesn't even have a/c, so my entire 1 hour massage there was a loud fan turned on along with the relaxing music. Not very relaxing. The girl I loved using her elbows the pressure was way too hard and I said "less pressure please" . She hardly spoke any English but is it too much to expect for her to understand the basics for her job like "more pressure " or "less pressure " if she's a masseuse??? I finally signaled with my hands and she seemed to understand. At the end, I went to the cashiers desk to pay. My masseuse was at the front too so I handed her a 16% cash tip, and turned to look at the cashier to pay her for the massage. I extended the money out to the cashier and the masseuse took it instead . I said I need change . With her very limited English she said she didn't have change cashier spoke English just fine and watched . So she basically gave herself a 20% tip . I figured these people need the 2 dollars more than I do so I just left thinking worst massage ever and I'm not coming back. I went there with my girlfriend to get their reflexology treatment (note that this was not reflexology, just a glorified foot massage). Right off the bat, one of the ladies tried to pitch me on getting a full body massage and seemed genuinely upset when I said no (note that I had made advanced reservations for foot massages so it was no surprise). The setup and room was nice enough but I was thrown off guard when the first thing my masseuse did was lather my face with some kind of cream or oil. I personally don't like them using that on my face and would have preferred it if I had gotten a heads up. So here's the deal killer: they use gloves to give you the massage. It absolutely ruins the feeling and after a while, it even starts to hurt. I've had dozens of foot massages but have never received one with gloves. Worst of all, the massage was super weak. I even asked at one point if she could do it harder and she said yes (and also mentioned I should have got the full-body) but nothing changed. I will note that my girlfriend said that her masseuse was stronger and she liked her massage (minus the oil on face and gloves) so maybe I just got a whack masseuse. All said, I won't be going to this place again. However, it's possible that they do have good masseuses and I just got a bad one. Regardless, avoid getting "reflexology" here. read more

Second, both times, I called to confirm availability, then I get there and they make me wait a half hour. Giving 1 star because I have to. Unbelievable run-around. They don't speak English. Looked at my Groupon like they had never seen one before. Didn't require an intake form (unprofessionally surprising for Encinitas). Took me straight to a room and gave me a run-around about my Groupon. 5 women all talking a different language at the same time, seemingly arguing. One called the "owner" who had a screaming kid in the background who could not resolve the Groupon problem. Seriously, I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. Will never go back there. By the way , Groupon refunded my money. p.s. Notice that many of the good Yelp reviews about them are from people living as far away as San Francisco / Fremont , and saying how they'll be back "twice a week". Come on. In LA there is one of these places on every corner and I pay $20. I booked my appointment on line, but when I arrived they were confused and I had to wait 20 minutes, not sure why. I have been coming here for 2 years now off and on. Massages are good generally but I have to leave a low review based on recent experiences. This is about their mismanagement and expectations that customers pay for that. A few weeks ago they literally forgot that I was there and took another client while I was on the table waiting. I keep calling the front desk from my phone, not wanting to walk around in a sheet and knock on doors. After 30 minutes someone showed up. Today I walked in and was told to come back in 20 minutes which I did. After I'm on the table waiting, 3 of them alternativelay running in and out chatting loudly and beginning massage, I'm told I have to leave because they forgot they had 3 scheduled appointments so they had to take care of them. I was asked to leave the massage table and come back later. I was floored. So unprofessional and bad for business. I'm very disappointed. I hope they care and fix this problem. They should have called me later I have been a good customer with generous tipping. read more

This place is run horribly. The services are unreliable and the employees don't seem to really know what's going on. I booked a massage online with a specific masseuse (David whose listed as a sports masseuse) and paid right then - HUGE mistake. I go in the next day and none of the employees knew where David was or checked for my online appointment. Without even trying to clarify what was going on, they started giving me a massage while I'm still trying to get the story straight. It was clear that David wasn't there (and possibly doesn't even exist as far as the employees response) and I quite frankly felt uncomfortable so I decided to leave before receiving the massage. On my way out I asked if I could have a refund but was never given one. This was a horrible experience and now I'm having to go through my credit card company to dispute the charge. I received a massage a couple of weeks ago as a walk in and it was great! I came when they opened so the woman was still preparing some things in the back. Im sorry I dont remember the woman's name but she was able to see me right away. I wanted a full body massage and though there is a language barrier she understood. Many of the reviews criticize the lack of English but still want a Asian massage from this business and it is embarressing to read. Those who did not like their massage were also ineffective in communicating what kind of massage they were looking for. I am disappointed in the amount of negativity there is towards the employees based on their English. If you wanted an Asian massage, who did you think was going to massage you? I typically let the masseuse do what they think is best and can tell them with MY inability to speak their first language if I would like to change the pressure. I look for firm massages to relieve hip and lower back pain as well as release tension from my shoulders, neck, and upper back. I find strong pressure is BEST for these things. I was able to get the massage I was looking for here. I am happy with my experience and the massage I received. I slept better that day and felt less tense the day after as I typically do with a good massage. Having had multiple Thai massages which I think fit best for what Im looking for, this massage was perfect for correcting the pain I had in my body as well as slightly correcting my posture so I sit/stand up straighter. I do not recognize which dialect they were speaking but I hope to learn some phrases to help them feel more comfortable when working with me as well as communicate my preferences read more

First, let me start by saying I have never rated a business or restaurant less than 3 stars while being a "Yelper". That is until our experience at Moonlight Spa the other day. You could not pay me to go back. It's honestly hard to describe the experience we had (girlfriend and I) because it's so shocking. I've tried to summarize our experience below so you don't make the same mistake. We got a "1hr relaxation massage." #1). Very hard to understand. My gf said she understood what everyone was saying, but I struggled at times. Everyone did seem friendly (in the beginning). We had a couples massage. #2). The massage bed you lay on was a bit firm. Forget the bed though, when you put your face in the chair your chin was resting on a metal bar! The entire time my chin and my gfs chin were up against a metal bar. Super uncomfortable. #3). Massage technique was the worst I have ever experienced. No joke, we almost got up and left after 15 minutes but thought that would be rude. It felt as if they were trying to Speed Wrestle with us. Very abrasive technique and rushing from one strange maneuver to the other. #4). Both ladies were literally hopping on top of the bed and off the bed constantly to get leverage. Up and down up and down... so not relaxing. #5). More elbow than I've ever had in my life. That is not relaxing and doesn't feel good. They were constantly on the bed grinding their elbow over our bodies. It was so unpleasant. #6). No attention to customer experience. Constantly banging into the bed and jolting the bed so you could never get comfortable. Felt like mini earthquake after mini earthquake. Again, even if they hadn't bumped the bed continually, nothing about the massage was comfortable or relaxing. The lights seemed to be on full brightness the entire time. Spotlights on you. #7). They are not afraid of the butt massage. Literally they pull your underwear down and massage your cheeks. I'm Not opposed to this, but think about an elbow just grinding into your butt cheeks... again just terrible. #8). About half way through the massage they said something (I didn't understand) and left the room. I was hoping the 1 hr massage was over, but turned and looked at my gf and asked her what was going on. My gf translated for me and told me they were getting "hot towels". I asked my gf at this point in time if any part of her massage was enjoyable and she confirmed it was not. She said she was hoping it was over also. #9). The ladies return with hot towels and throw them on our backs and then just start scrubbing us up and down. These must have been 10 thread count towels because sand-paper would have felt better. Worst part was they did this technique on our entire body scrubbing up and down with scratchy towels. What the heck is going on? 10). This was the cherry on top... after surviving the towel rub of death, the elbows in the back and butt, terrible massage technique, the deal was sealed when they literally took my arm in a stretching motion and then violently jerked it and pulled it. What the heck is going on? She literally started tugging on my arm like that was relaxing? #11). After my arms felt like they had been yanked out of my socket, they then proceeded to do the same thing to our fingers. Yanking on our fingers!!!! My gf thought they were going to rip her nail off. Again... what are they even thinking? I guarantee you these women have no massage experience. #12). It gets better... they literally started hitting my wrist. They bent my wrist and then smacked my wrist two times (not painful, just startling and weird). #13). They then bent my arm back behind my body as if I was being handcuffed and grinded into my shoulder blade (ouch). After that they bent my legs back as if I was meditating. #14). To end the massage they soak your entire face in some oil rubbing it all over (chin, nose, cheeks, mouth, eyes, etc).... nasty! #15). When the worst massage either one of us has ever had finally ended (if I could have paid to leave early I would have... again without being rude), we dressed up and went to pay. #16). They charge you a $1 service charge to use credit card. Then it's like a pack of wolves emerges. The two ladies that gave us a massage plus the lady up front ask about TIP? Not only do they ask, but the one lady that beat me up the last hour starts telling me "$20 tip both us. Yes. $20. We work hard." I said, "no thanks." She said, "yes have do $20 tip each work hard." I've never felt so awkward in my life. Please don't make the same mistake we did. Seriously there is no price worth this experience. The massages were $50 a piece by the way. You'd be better off taking that $100 and have someone ride a bike over you, take a pogo stick to your back, and then kick you. Save your money. read more

What a bad experience. Obviously, you book a massage when you need to relax a bit.. and I felt anything but relaxed. When I arrived the woman behind the desk greeted me and I had no idea what she was saying, I let her know I couldn't understand her but that I had a 5:00 appointment and my name was Jamie. She kept saying, "call"? I responded, "Yes, I called" She showed me her iphone with the name Amy at 6:00. I said, no, Jamie, at 5. She then walked me back to a room with 2 beds, thin sheets and a bit brighter lighting than I would have expected and motioned for me to take off my clothes. She shut the door and I waited for a massage therapist to enter- no one ever did. I came back out and asked what was going on and I don't think she understood me. I asked her, "can you understand what I'm saying?" She couldn't. I hate to post such a bad review- but it was an awful experience. I went behind the desk myself to get by groupon paper back.
