I like the new layout/decor. The food here is great, especially the breakfasts. I'm a huge fan of any of the subs that have egg, especially the Mother and Child Reunion (that's chicken cutlet with fried egg), the Heart Attack (cheeseburger sub with fried eggs), and Cow Meets Egg (cheesesteak w/fried eggs...and they SHOULD have spelled it "Cow MEATS Egg!"). Their breakfast burritos are great, too, especially The Nuclear Bomb. Other good items on the menu include the Phantom Royale With Cheese (although personally I'd prefer it with A1 sauce instead of BBQ), and any of the French Toast sandwiches. The Bay Fries are AWESOME, and the Chive Fries aren't too bad, either. It's a nice casual place, very popular with the BC students in the neighborhood...perhaps a little TOO popular for those of us that aren't still in college. But everybody can have a good time here. Why it doesn't get five stars: 1) I've had a few problems with the wait when ordering takeout. They've frequently underestimated how long my order would take. Listen, don't tell me what you think I want to hear on the phone...if you're getting slammed and it's going to take 30 minutes, just tell me it'll take 30 minutes! Don't tell me "10 minutes" and leave me waiting at the counter for 20 minutes. I'd much rather you just tell me the truth. 2) On two occasions, I got onions rings that were burned. And I mean BURNED, like charcoal. Both times, I was getting takeout...and I believe that's the only reason they served me food that was obviously ruined, because they figured I wouldn't notice it was ruined until I was already home. Come on guys...is this an episode of "Kitchen Nightmares?" If that had happened on my first visit, they would have never seen me again. I only kept coming back because I'd previously fallen in love with the food. The second time it happened, I stormed back and showed the guy the ruined onion rings and said, "WOULD YOU EAT THIS SHIT?" He apologized and got me some new ones (large instead of the small I'd paid for) and included a free banana bread, and it hasn't happened since...but it DID bother me that it happened. Don't get me wrong, I have MUCH more positive things to say about this place than negative. But for the record, they've got two strikes. Let's hope there isn't a third! I wouldn't order breakfast...well, the homefries at least. My first experience here was a bit tainted. I ordered an egg sandwich with homefries on the side. The fries were so crispy, they were painful...to the point that the entire roof of my mouth was cut up and eventually was bleeding. (I'll admit, I have a sensitive mouth...but that's NEVER happened before!) So don't order the homefries. I decided to give it a second chance because all my friends love it- and I'm glad I did. The lunch sandwiches are awesome- really interesting combos, funny names and really reasonable. I suggest the mother-child reunion. It's a great place to go on a date (not a first date, but anything after that) or with a group of friends. It's really friendly and fun. They have games to play and good music. The food is super yummy, but the vibe is vaguely creepy. From the outside it looks like a trip back to the 60s or something, but on the inside there are a lot of people who aren't really talking much. I like that they have board games you can play, but people rarely ever play them. The booths are massive, but there are only 6 of them or so, and that makes it nearly impossible to grab a seat during lunch or dinner rush. I used to be a moogy's regular back when I lived in Brighton. The subs are usually good, and they make some really funky ones if you're feeling adventurous (try the phantom royal!). Breakfast is great too- I especially like how customizable their breakfast options are. Moogys let's u order a side pancake of whatever variety you want (I like the banana chocolate chip). I order from them every Saturday! Their cheese steak is something I always crave. I absolutely love their breakfast options as well. Delivery is always fast. I get chocolate chip pancakes EVERY time. I always feel skimped when I get my delicious sausage in a sandwich though. Also, every time I get delivery (5 times now) they don't have a bag for the drinks. We came here on our first night in Boston on a recommendation from someone moving out of our building. Since then, it's been our go-to place in the neighborhood when we need a quick bite to eat. Their variety of sandwiches is indeed impressive, and even a relatively picky eater like me can find different things to get every time. I'm a big fan of their breakfast -- the french toast is great, and I usually avoid getting french toast when I go out because most places mess it up. I really liked the concept, breakfast all day, fun and innovative sandwiches, beer, and games. After eating here a couple of times I got very bored. The sandwiches that I had originally thought were creative and yummy, just seemed like they had been dumped out of a bag previously frozen. And even though it seems like a place where you can hang out all day, the employees just seem to glare at you until you leave. I still come here every couple months, because my boyfriend really likes the place. I'm glad that they bring the joy of some of my favorite places to my apartment, but $5.99 to make it happen? Really? I feel a certain bit of shame when i use Foodler... like taking a cab from the North End back to Brighton before 12:45am. I ordered the food via Foodler at 6:30pm. It arrived at my apartment at 7:50pm. Not cool. I was ordered a side of bacon with my french toast for $1.50. I received 3 pieces. THREE pieces. I wasn't expecting an entire pig but come on. Maybe one day I will not be super lazy and go check it out. I might even revise my review. But for now I will stick with 3 stars. read more

I've been coming here almost since its inception and I keep coming back. The sandwiches are quirky with a variety of hot and cold subs that mix ingredients you wouldn't think work together until you taste it. Of course there is traditional fare as far as the subs go too. The breakfast all day is always nice in case the mood strikes you and the service is fast. Two things keeping this from being 5 stars are the price (though portions are large) and the space. Within the last few years they added a bar and installed seating in the back of the place. Although this has allowed for more liquor sales (read profit) it breaks up the space in an odd way. All in all, I keep coming back and I suggest you try two or three sandwiches. They really are amazing. read more

I go here for lunch just about once every week. And I never get tired of it. The menu is huge and varied, it's almost never crowded, and the food is great. Seriously the first time I saw this place I thought it was some kind of smokeshop or pot-paraphernalia store. How wrong I was. Inside it's clean and dimly lit, with the walls covered in all different special items on little blackboards. Their steak and cheese subs are amazing, the chicken not so much to me. The fries are awesome, from the pizza fries to the standard cheese and bacon. They even have beer on tap for those who are into it. This is the best place in the area to grab a sandwich. They have a huge selection where anyone from vegan to carnivore can find something to enjoy. The curly fries are DELICIOUS. Moogy's provides that outlet perfectly due to it's location of Brighton-Allston, somewhat sandwiched between the two local schools: Boston College or Boston University (you may have heard of them ). The type of greasy late night bar food that you've been searching for. The Phat Philly is obviously a Philly cheese steak that is not only the best one in the local area, but dare I say competes with any other in the greater Boston area. Moogy's is my absolute favorite restaurant and I am sad that I am moving away after four years of delicious omelets, cheesesteaks, veggie subs, dollar drafts, and bay fries. The food - I have NEVER had a bad meal at Moogy's. Whether its a big omelet on a weekend morning (which I highly recommend as a hangover cure) or a BC cheesesteak, every meal comes out of the kitchen piping hot and with generous portions! My personal favorite is the sugar daddy - a french toast sandwich with turkey and cheese that descends from the heavens and lands on my plate with a side of hot syrup to dunk in. The BC cheeseseteak is a close second, with over a pound of steak! The professor who told me about Moogy's is a cheesesteak connoisseur from Philly and says that Moogy's makes 'em the best. Enough said. The restaurant - Moogy's has changed a lot in the last four years, in a great way. They've added tables in the back (nice if you have a big group) and a sweet bar in the front with three TV's. No matter where you sit, you can grab one of the board games to play with your friends while sipping dollar drafts and waiting for your food. A word of warning - you will have to pause your game when the food comes out because no one can resist a hot Moogy's meal! The deals - On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, Moogy's has great deals on certain meals (hey that rhymes). Flippin' Mondays is my favorite, where you can get a dollar stack of pancakes! They also have burgers on Tuesdays and Wingin' Wednesdays, which are also an awesome deal. As if I needed another excuse to walk down to Moogy's... The family - The people who own and work at Moogy's couldn't be a nicer group of individuals. They get along so well and seem to have so much fun that I can't help but think of them as a big family. From the minute we walk in, it's all smiles and laughs. Besides the great food, this is one of the main reasons why we returned to Moogy's time and time again. I couldn't imagine a better place to spend my time and enjoy the Bruins and Celtics games. Thanks for the memories Moogy's. I had the 'Full Monty" (provolone, bacon, BBQ sauce) 6-inch cheese-steak sub and a small "crab fries" (fries with Old Bay seasoning) for a total of $8.15. The fries would have been a totally forgettable affair but for the sprinkling of Old Bay. The sub was alright; but puny for it's price, and I found myself asking (rhetorically) "where's the beef"? Or "steak" in this instance. I agree with the other reviewer that the middle parts of the sandwich are good, but there was simply no beef at the ends at all. I also realize to my dismay that if I hadn't ordered the fries, I would still be hungry if I just had the sub alone; the fries were what filled me up. This led me to the conclusion that this place is very overpriced and I felt ripped off. Service was slow and they didn't even have paper plates but wrapped the sub in stiff paper. Not recommended. But It was smart of them to add Old Bay to the fries and I will get my own shaker from Shaws for my fries in the future. read more

Nice place to go chill, but this place's food really sucks for what its supposed to be. Nothing is flavorful compared to the other joints that serve cheese steaks and burgers. Also I've asked many times for something, no onions for instance, to be not on my sandwich, and every time they forget to do it, which is incredibly irritating. Also, this place is supposed to be a pseudo-fast food joint, and I generally end up waiting for about 15 -20 min for a cheese steak , even when theres no one in the store. They must have had at least a hundred delicious sounding subs, sandwiches, burgers, etc. I literally took ten minutes staring at the menu trying to figure out which item to try. I knew I would be back for more! However, after making my selection, I'm not sure if a better tasting sub could exist. I chose the Phantom Royal steak sandwich complete with cheese, onion rings, and BBQ sauce...I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. The atmosphere of this place is very relaxed, with plenty of room to sit.
