I found Montilio's and asked them if they'd do a personal cake, asked if they had mint, and the girl got the okay to take my order for a personal sized cake. When the cake arrived, it was lost downstairs somehow, so after a little investigating, the owner decided to redeliver it today, free of charge. This was my first time visiting this shop and before coming here I've heard great things about their baked goods. I got there relatively early, before 9 AM. There was no one in the there, which I thought was lucky. I'm sure they're busy during the morning prepping for the day, but it took about 5 minutes before someone greeted me, though it seemed quite reluctantly. I said hi and good morning, no response. I asked about getting a dozen breakfast pastries as I saw on their online menu and she just waved her hand nonchalantly and said these were the pastries. I asked her again about getting a dozen and she just waved her hand again. So, I said I've never been there and I didn't know, again no response. I go over and look while she's getting a box and I pick out a dozen that I wanted. She brings them over to ring me out. Compared to what I saw on their website it came to significantly more. I asked her that I saw a different price, again mentioning their online menu, and she just said oh, those were different ones. She then asked if they were for work, which they were, and responded that they would just pay for it, like there still isn't some sort of budget. I wasn't going to return the favor of being rude, so I just bought them and left. The pastries were good and that's really the only reason for the 2 stars. The SERVICE has much to be desired. Maybe she was having a bad morning but the fact I was the only one in there, maybe a little ignorant, gives her, and in extension that establishment no legitimate reason to treat someone who's visiting that kind of boorish, indignant behavior. And, after reading some of these other reviews it looks like I'm not the only person the have a similar experience with a very similar woman. They need to take her off the front counter it seems or risk losing so much more business. This place left a bad taste in my mouth. The customer service was great! I was debating between Montilio's and Kanditor Meistor but because I always get KM, I decided on Montilio's because I've heard so much about them. Although I had to call 3 times, Sue was very nice and accommodating. However, I got an 8inch Rum torte for my moms bday and it was not good. My mom is a Caribbean woman and knows her rum cakes. This cake was wet. Not moist, just wet and the "rum" tasted like rubbing alcohol. Not a fan. Also the middle has a vanilla and chocolate custard later, which just didn't take good with the "rum". And to add to all of that disappointment, this 8inch torte was around 38$. I could have definitely gotten a bigger and better tasting cake at KM. Next time I'll stick to what I know. read more

I love desserts, and I was disappointed at how super sweet the red velvet cake was so much so that I couldn't eat it anymore after two bites. The mocha chocolate cake was better. The pecan cheesecake was mediocre. It didn't taste fresh. For $4.98 per slice for cake and per slice for cheesecake, I do not think it was worth it. I also got a double chocolate cookie, and it was also way too sweet. Sad that their desserts didn't taste better. Also, there were no names attached to each dessert so I had no idea what cake, cookie, or cheesecake was what. Normally there is a tag so that you know what the item is. The cashier was very nice and answered my questions of what is what, but I think my experience there would have been much better had I been able to read what each item was rather than guess from what it looks like and/or have to ask. Also, I don't mind paying more if the quality is great and worth it, but sadly, the desserts did not meet up to their high costs as the cake and cheesecake slices did not taste fresh and were too sweet. read more

I would say a 3.5 star, I prefer Konditor Meister but wanted to try Montilios, located in the Granite Plaza with plenty of parking and right in the center where upstairs is an office building. I chose the 1 dozen pastries for $14. I love the traditional chocolate covered strawberries, tiramisu, cheesecake, cupcakes, and some chocolate things. The Fresco is their champ, fresh sliced tomatoes, mozzarella and creamy ricotta over an extra-virgin olive oil & garlic blend and topped with a drizzle of balsamic glaze. Also outstanding is their Buffalo Chicken pizza, and their Barbecue Chicken pizza. They sell many of these pizzas by the slice, though the Fresco is the only of the "specialty pizza" that they always have available in slices, they others seem to depend of the mood of the kitchen and what they feel like making that day. If you are in Braintree and are looking for a delicious pizza, try Montilios first, you won't be disappointed. read more

Later i saw they had an Italian rum cake which was my family's favorite dessert on holidays growing up in NY. But its impossible to find locally. Despite my recent disappointment I ordered the rum cake anyway hoping I had found a source of a treasured childhood memory. It was delicious and everything I remembered. Our cakes had whipped cream frosting and sliced almonds on the side of the cake and theirs had nothing which was very odd..but the cake was otherwise perfect! My fiance and I visited here in order to select our wedding cake. Upon hearing fairly great reviews about this place, my fiance and I were extremely excited to see what this place has to offer. We spoke with a very nice lady named Joyce who guided us through the cake design and tasting process. She was pretty chill and had a lot of knowledge about wedding cakes. She was extremely helpful and informative. If you ever decide to get your wedding cake from here, make sure to ask for Joyce! However, my fiance and I decided not to order our wedding cake from this place mainly because we didn't like the cake taste. Don't get me wrong, it's delicious by all means, but it just wasn't for us. In my personal opinion, I thought the cakes were a little bit dry and boring and could use a little bit of more "excitement" if you know what I mean. All that to say, this place has a great staff and they will definitely take care of you if you decide to order your cake from here. Montillio's was the required cake vendor for my venue, but I am so glad it was! From the tasting to the cake itself, my wife and I got everything we wanted. They were running behind on the tasting, yet we weren't ignored, offered complimentary coffee drinks while we waited. Frank, who worked with us, didn't rush us through the tasting portion, and was thoughtful, conscientious and non-pushy as we planned out the details. That he left us to our own devices to do the actual tasting was nice; we were able to sample and pick to our hearts' content. Montilio's doesn't' mess around with the tasting either--we were provided 8 of their most common flavor combinations! My only desire was to have descriptions because we didn't quite remember each combination as we were trying them. I would also like a different layout for their flavor list; I was semi-confused about some of the flavor options and which ones were classified as "premium" or not. The cake they made was GORGEOUS! I am so happy we chose the hand-drawn peacock feather design, our guests loved it, AND they thought the cake was delicious. I have never had a delicious wedding cake in my life--one been good, but most range between okay and crap. The cake Montilio's made was moist and tasty. It is always a treat whenever I get to visit here! I ordered tiramisu during my first visit here. The second time was this past month where I ordered a platter of cookies, tiramisu coffee, and a black forest cake. The cookies were amazing, especially the ones with raspberry jam filling. The tiramisu coffee was such a surprise to me because it actually tasted like tiramisu without it tasting artificial like most places. I love that they add in an extra shot of espresso too, so it was a caffeine-overloaded (in a good way) drink for me. The black forest cake was a delight as well. I got tired of the competition up the street and wanted to try somewhere new. Called to schedule a tasting at the one in Quincy. I get to Quincy that Saturday morning and they tell me all the tastings for that day were moved to the one in Braintree. I said that would have been ok if I got a call about it, but I didn't. So back in the car my sister and I went headed to Braintree. I get there and tell them what happened and there was some back n forth with the two bakeries on why no one called the customers to let them know things changed. Needless to say we got to taste almost every flavor cupcake there was. We went over my cake design and was assured everything would be fine. Rebecca was awesome; great personality and very helpful. My order ended up being close to $300, but in the end it was worth it. The only problem I had was the fact that I originally started in Quincy, got bumped to Braintree, and then my order ended up being made at the Brockton site. We had a bit of a fiasco trying to find a nice cupcake stand to fit 70 cupcakes so we were told that they would make a custom one but it would cost $75 as rental or buy out and if we brought the stand back we would be reimbursed. However, that was not the case. It was a lot of back and forth and I never got my $$ back. If I would have known that, I would have just kept the stand because it was soo nice. It has taken me a few weeks to write this review because I was very upset and I wanted to write a fair review not one based solely on emotions. I ordered a cake for my grandmother's 80th birthday. The theme of the party was yellow and white the instructions for the cake was very clear that the ONLY colors to be used were to be white and soft yellow. The guy who took the order asked if we were okay with green for leafing. I was extremely hesitant but he promised it would look good. Well, when it was time to pick up the cake it was all Mardi Gras colors (lots of purple, some green, and very little bright yellow) and poka dots all around the cake. I almost cried I asked if they could re frost the cake and was told that the cakes were made in Brockton and there was no way to fix the cake. Come to find out that wasn't true.Long story short I emailed and called Montillo's several times and after 2 weeks I finally spoke to Anne I explained to her how upset I was and how I was almost in tears. I sent pictures of the cake and even she said the cake that was given was COMPLETELY different then what I had asked for. She also said that the staff should have called the Brockton location and told them to fix the cake. We agreed on a 50% refund. I would only give them a 3/5 because the cake looked like an abomination and because I had to call/email several times before someone was able to "correct" the situation. The cake tasted good so I will continue to recommend this bakery. However, what happened to me should have never happened. read more

Will never order from Montilios again. They actually don't bake any of their products on premise. Put in a cupcake order on Wednesday for a Sunday pickup and realized I had the wrong sprinkle colors and called back Thursday to change and they said 'already in production' and I can't change it. I got a carrot cake cupcake, a chocolate chip cookie cupcake, and a fruit cup. The cookie cupcake was clear old as the cookie had turned to just dust and there was way too much frosting. The frosting was also really sweet and it didn't taste like a buttercream or cheesecake frosting. Couldn't taste the chocolate chips either even though I saw them in there, that's how thick the frosting was. Was also hard but the cake itself was moist. It didn't really taste like much. The carrot cake cupcake was really yummy, in terms of moistness. They did use raisins and carrots in it but a lot of the carrot pieces were too long. I found one inside the cupcake that was 4 inches long. The frosting had also had a hard shell and was again too sweet. It was cream cheese frosting. Lastly, the fruit cup was okay. The fruit had been sitting there. You could taste the pesticides out of the grapes because they didn't wash them. Also they left the stems on some of them so it tasted icky. Montillio's gave us the perfect cake for our wedding! We went into their Braintree shop to do our cake tasting, and while there were a ton of delicious options, we decided on two different flavors (the bottom and top tier were the same, with a different flavor for the second tier): a champagne white cake with a white chocolate mousse filling with fresh strawberries, and an olive oil cake. We loved them both so much, we couldn't pick just one! We opted for a simple flat spatula design for the white buttercream frosting on the outside and no cake topper or any other kinds of flourish (our florist added a few white roses and greenery to their tiers instead). It was simple, elegant, and absolutely perfect for our big day. The quality is amazing, and we left our wedding with the top of our cake meticulously packaged in a Montillio's-branded box to bring home and enjoy. Our plan is to come back next year for our 1 year anniversary to order a small cake in the same flavor as our topper to celebrate the occasion. Thank you, Montillio's! read more
