First off thank you for all the patriotic cakes , cookies & cupcakes it's awesome display you show for your appreciation to those who sacrificed for our way of life & freedoms. Well of coarse I purchased an American Flag cupcake I'm no socialist folks! Wow this cake really packs a serious sugar punch and I loved every bite. My lady had the coconut cake to her delight, I know cause it was gone before I asked for a nibble.. Aside from the eats & treats they had my favorite sesame seed bread, unfortunately I wasn't able to grab some but it's on the notes to stop and get some soon. The support staff was supper courteous , friendly and welcoming, and this a bonus for me. The restaurant and bakery is very clean and roomy for people wanting to take a break. Their ad about a seasonal cinnamon sugar cruffin got me. So when I found myself in the neighborhood during the fall, I headed on over to Montillos for one. My eye fell on the tray of cinnamon rolls, so I took one of those home with me too. At $4.99 for the cruffin and $3.80 for the cinnamon roll, they offered me a 34 cent discount for paying with cash. For our very first cake order from Montilios it was severely disappointing. The birthday cake was dry and firm. Almost tasted like a box cake with less flavor. It had been a year since I'd visited last so I wanted to try it again while in the area. It took 20 mins for a subpar chicken pesto sandwich. It wasn't very busy either otherwise I could've dealt with the wait. For a $13 sandwich, I expected more in terms of taste. Pesto tasted like it was a premade mix that I could've bought and made a sandwich myself at home. Coffee was nice and strong and for a decent price compared to the Starbucks nearby. Decent amount of pastries but the prices are pretty expensive. I was hoping this place got better after a while but their food isn't that good. Stopped in here for lunch with a coworker since it's right up the road and I was pleasantly surprised. The dining area is a small but comfortable and our waitress was very pleasant and took good care of us. The food was great and I really was surprised by how big the sandwich was. Fruit custard had a nice custard filling and fresh fruits on top, the strawberry cake was really moist with soft cream layers and topping. Chocolate cupcake was good. There were lot more pastries on display, but several seemed to have elaborate colored frosting on top and I was not too keen on trying them out. Not adding another 2 stars to my review since we found a fly sitting on one of their pastries within the display case. Maybe it's summer and this 1 fly was an odd case, but if you are selling food then one would expect the management to take more stricter steps. read more

I got a Florentine pizza and a chocolate cupcake here. Both were great! I'd recommend these, even as a person that can make them from scratch. The thin crust pizza was crunchy and flavorful. Good pizza dough. The cupcake was just right: I did not taste anything too bitter or sweet, and it was decorated beautifully too. The holiday decorations were festive, and it was so nice seeing locals from all backgrounds come in for a treat. Will definitely be back. read more

We had them bring the mobile oven out to our engagement party and it was nothing but amazing. The set-up was beautiful and way more than I ever expected. I had a phone call with Chef Mark the week leading up to my event and he made sure he had all of the correct information and also asked if we wanted a heart shaped pizza made for my fiance and I to cut together. The quality of the pizza was superior and I have had multiple guests reach out to me days later stating how awesome the food was. The engagement party was at my families farm and Chef Mark and team even made a couple pizzas (just cooked dough) for our cows and put them in to-goo boxes. We will definitely be using them again and our engagement party would not of compared if we did not have them!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! read more

Was in the mood for a sweet treat along with a cup of coffee so we stopped at Montilios in Braintree to see what they had. They had exactly what I was looking for, big pieces of cake, mini cupcakes and delicious coffee. I am a hugh coffee snob and 95% of the time when I get it somewhere besides Starbucks I am turned off. Their coffee was excellent. I want to mention that we stopped off at Konditor Meister in Braintree first and what a disappointment that was. They had no pieces of cake, they had mini treats but nothing "cake like". We got our wedding cake from Konditor Meister so I know they have great cake but apparently they don't sell it in pieces AND another major let down is they didn't sell coffee. What sweet treat shop doesn't have coffee - so that's how we ended up at Montilios and we were glad we did. They also had pizza, arancini, and apparently they offer breakfast too. They had seats inside and outside and it was nice to be able to sit down, enjoy a nice piece of cake and a coffee while sitting. read more

The 3 1/2 star rating seems pretty accurate to me. Going 4 for nostalgia reasons. The pastries have always been pretty good. Got a slice of pizza which was better than expected. Who doesn't like deserts? This place does not disappoint in scrumptiously decadent goodies. Cake, muffins, pie, cookies... they even have pizza here. They have books to go through for cake orders and the like. On occasion I stop in here and get a slice of pie or cake because I know it's going to be absolutely Devine every time. The only thing I wish they would do is put the names of them on them to order. I have to walk over and point to the one I want. That one. No, the one next to it. Yes. Pizza is great too. My favorite is the Fresco. It's got tomato, basil, ricotta and mozzarella cheese and then they sprinkle a little balsamic on it. Delicious. Good food, but overpriced. This place is always busy and the staff is always distracted, leading to constantly incorrect orders. For example, their menu states that all calzones come with homemade marinara sauce. However, on multiple occasions I have ordered calzones to go, and got home to realize that there was no sauce. Secondly, despite repeating "barbecue chicken" calzone multiple times, I received a buffalo chicken calzone. More than once. I'm done with this place. Came across this bakery because I was eating at the new Newcomb location inside. The macarons I purchased ($2.50 each) were okay, they were a little stall. I'm mostly disappointed in the wafer cookies. There was no label stating what flavor they were, turns out they taste cinnamony but in a bad way. The girl behind the counter did not tell me my total, and I later found on my bank that it was $10 for the bag of wafer cookies. So much so my large Irish clan have adopted this cake to be a tradition to serve at all of our family events. There was a glitch in one of my orders and the owners daughter reached out and the problem was resolved. That meant a lot especially living in a time where customer service is no longer a priority in most businesses. The issue was resolved, all went well, and I am a satisfied customer. I came to the Newcomb's Cafe for breakfast that opened up inside of this bakery. After breakfast on my way out, I stopped by the bakery section to pick up some sweet treats to take home. They didn't have any "fancy" or specialty items. Everything behind the glass case (cakes, muffins, cookies, cheesecake, etc.) looked kind of plain and boring to be honest. I was hoping to see something that made me say "wow I need to try that" but there was nothing enticing. I got a giant chocolate chip cookie, a giant m&m cookie and a whoopie pie (which was also huge). They all tasted just okay/average. There was nothing really special about them that would make want to come back for more. There are better bakeries out there with more creative items to choose from. read more

I stopped by after shopping in the area. I bought a slice of pumpkin cheesecake. The slices toward the front of the display case looked great, however the slice I received was not fresh. It was hard on top and very dry on the bottom. I wouldn't be surprised if it was leftover over for at least a week. Montilios has a habit of selling stale products at top price. The food was pretty "blah". I got the arancini (spinach and cheese, chicken and broccoli, taco, and roasted veggie) which were exceptionally average. Very bland, veggies seemed like they weren't fresh but frozen (especially the spinach), and pretty flavorless. Kind of a weird texture. Got the pasta salad though which was pretty good! Super disappointed. Heard their food is really good. Was really looking forward to a nice Italian sub. Was in a time crunch at work so I ordered it a head of time through the Door Dash app; upon arrival my order was no where to be found while I was met with suspicion as the employees explained to me that they "accidentally" let a random person, claiming to be a "dash delivery driver" take it. I get it, it was during a lunch rush. It was crazy In there. I worked many years in restaurants and the food service industry, and I understand mistakes happen especially during a rush. But if I were the employee, I would have offered to remake the order and comp it, as the inconvenience was on their end, and I know they'd see the money through the dash app eventually. But no, my only option was to wait In line and reorder and pay for a second time... and assume Door Dash will refund me "eventually". As stated, I was in a time crunch and at this point the line had reformed and was rather long, so I ended up leaving rather "hangry" and disappointed. I'm not blaming the girl I spoke with. She just works there and was trying to get through the rush. But they need to perform better when it comes to these deliver/pick up apps. I visited yesterday to pick up my usual cupcakes and a few other desserts. This was not my typical experience because the person that put together my desserts was not welcoming. 5/29/2010 Update to Montilios in Braintree My daughter loves their Fresco Pizza, so we decided to go there again. This time along with the Fresco we ordered, The North End Pizza. Wish I'd taken a photo. I liked it. Still not of fan of thin crust pizza, but I liked them both. Also decided to get a slice of their Tiramisu. My best friend loves Tiramisu. I've had it before. Montilios looked differently from the one I shared some time ago, but I tried it. The size of it allowed me to have for 3 days. That was good. I did think, they saturated their bottom fingers with too much coffee, but that was a little thing. We also ordered the Carrot Cake. Didn't take a photo of that as well. I didn't have any of it, but my family says, "Tasted old. It wasn't fresh". That doesn't surprise me with bakeries. Your best bet is to ask when the pastry had been baked and hope they tell you the truth. So you can go home feeling secure about when eating it, you will enjoy it. We ordered a large cake from Montilio's to celebrate our colleagues upcoming nuptials. The cake was presidential white with a raspberry jam filling, pink frosting and beautiful roses on top. The cake was very dense and (advanced apologies to haters of the word) ----- moist. It was the perfect blend-- just the right amount of everything (not overly frosted which I appreciate). I wasn't a huge fan of the darker pink rose which had been recommended, I would have preferred just the white and pale pink, but to each their own. I picked it up on the scheduled day with no issues. It was extremely heavy (I think the cake was enough to feed ~50) and the employees at Montilio's offered to assist me to the car; but luckily my boyfriend was with me. I didn't expect it to be so heavy! I had it on my lap driving down the road, and pretty sure I couldn't feel my foot haha. Everyone loved the cake, it was a huge hit. Really hit or miss service. These teenaged girls have GOT to be trained better on customer service. It's super annoying to be standing around 10 minutes before you're even recognized as waiting to order something! It's extremely aggravating and I probably wouldn't go here as often if I didn't work right upstairs. The lunch options, however, wow! Two stars for the service but at least 4.5 for the food. I am in love with the caprese sandwich and this is my standard, go to when I need to rush back to my desk because I'm busy. Service is at least quick once they finally take your order. I've also had the meatball sub and an Italian chicken sandwich, LOVE the 5-6 different breads you are able to choose from as well....nice touch. I've tried a handful of the sweets including a pistachio cannoli and cupcakes. Nothing was uber impressive, just standard Italian pastries. I'm no sweet connoisseur so I can't exactly elaborate on them here for than this, I've heard the wedding cakes are super nice. I mainly go here for either a morning coffee or the lunch options. Please tell me what has changed. I would have given Montilios a 5 rating but not any more. I ordered and waited after the person who took my order, asked my name. For what I don't know why. I then waited greater than 25 minutes and the place was not busy to find that my order sat on the counter for a long time. No one called my name for pick up. Now it was in a paper bag and cold. Whether it is a change in management and not enough training for the staff, I not sure. As a 10 year customer I find this appalling and not worth my time or money anymore. read more

I enjoyed my experience here. I wasn't rushed as I just stopped in to get a cannoli and a cupcake but ended up ordering a lot more. They have a lot of options and I love that they have mini cupcakes and cannolis in many of the same flavors as the regular sized pastries. It makes for the perfect smorgasbord! read more
