I loved Monilio's Bakery bit recently we purchased a whoopie pie at D'angelo's sandwich shop and it was hard as a rock and inedible. We got sandwiches tonight and gave Montilio's another try. The brownie was cake not brownie at all and i almost choked it was so dry. The Blueberry muffins looked amazing and cost a mint for four but they were huge and the blueberries were plentiful but when i bit it i had to spit it out. It had a chemical taste like i had just rinsed my mouth with sweet and lo. Terrible - worst I have ever purchased. And no expiration date on anything. Jordan's Blueberry Muffins. I remember the original recipe back when I was a child. I saw the billboard, and I couldn't wait to go in and pick up two boxes of these blueberry muffins. To my disappointment, they are not the original recipe. The blueberries were from a can they were hot or chewy. The aroma is not one of homemade, fresh out of the oven.Smell, it is some sort of chemical, processing oil or something. Unfortunately I was greatly disappointed. These muffins are new england tradition, and a seasonal delight. Montillio's Bakery is a huge name and a family owned business. I give this negative review with a heavy heart. Good. Lord. (*I'll preface this by saying I'm a former pizza chef, and by loose estimate I've eaten over 1500 pizzas. I've made a similar number.) The pizza I got last week from their Quincy location is, without a doubt, one of the worst pizzas of my entire life. Astoundingly bad. First off we tried going to the Weymouth location, but were told the oven closes an HOUR before the store does. Ok whatever. The Quincy location closes an hour later; I'll just go drive there. Order two pies, get home, and lose my mind: The website lists the margarita pizza as "sliced mozzarella on top of red sauce", which is how I prefer it (vs slices of tomatoes). Meanwhile the pizza I got was just straight up cheese with zero sauce, and a few slimy wedges of brown tomatoes slapped down haphazardly. Someone ABSOLUTELY took a few HANDFULS of basil, and just threw them on my pizza with zero attempt to spread them out for proper flavor. Basil gets overwhelming real fast, so this was a clear incompetent move. Also, YOU DONT COOK THE BASIL ON A MARGARITA PIZZA! You put it on afterwards to maintain the color and texture, otherwise they turn dark and wither. And you DEFINITELY don't leave the STEMS attached??? WTF? This pizza was so bad I had to dismantle it and add my own ingredients to reheat and make barely palatable. It was rolled out way too thin, with the center being potato chip consistency while the crust is overflowing with excess dough. My wife's wasn't that bad, but it was made and boxed like a jackass so the slices were folded over. If it wasn't closed by the time I saw all this, I would have brought it back, requested a refund and NEVER went back. Soup to nuts this was one of the worst executions I've ever seen. And I used to live up the street from this bakery for 13 years, so I've gotten their pizza plenty of times. It's kind of a known thing with Montillios pizza; yes it can be amazing sometimes, but it can also be a sloppy, lazy disaster. The inconsistency just isn't worth the gamble. Better off hitting up the Papa Gino's a couple miles away if you like this style of pizza but don't want to gamble getting just utter trash. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Montilio's Bakery. I ordered 18 cupcakes for my daughter's 7th birthday, scheduled for pickup on January 25, with the understanding that orders are made one day in advance. Despite that, I received an email on January 22 stating the cupcakes were already ready. Then, on the morning of January 24, my daughter's birthday party was canceled due to a snowstorm. I immediately called Montilio's to ask if the order could be moved to the following Sunday. I was told no, that there was nothing they could do. Instead of offering any flexibility or solution--especially given the weather-related cancellation--I was essentially told that it was my fault for ordering online. This was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. The cupcakes could have easily been sold to other customers, but there was no willingness to work with me at all. For a bakery that markets itself as family-oriented and customer-focused, this lack of understanding and poor customer service was surprising. I come here for the sweet tarts. I absolutely love them when they're fresh. They're sweet and tart and satisfy that sweet tooth without feeling too guilty. I have also tried the strawberry whipped cake a cheesecake some of their coffees and I've had pizza here, which is all really great, but the thing I love the most is the sweet tart. read more

Very bad experience with this bakery. They brag about their "Traditional Italian Rum Cake', but they screwed up major when it was ordered for delivery. They sent me an ordinary chocolate cake with cloying white frosting between the layers - there was absolutely nothing special about it. I had ordered their "famous" Traditional Italian Rum Cake for a special family birthday party, and what I got was a featureless run-of-the-mill cake. It was a huge disappointment, and the company has yet to apologize for their error. Goldbelly refunded my payment, but they have assured me that it was Montilio's error. Someone on the Montilio staff placed a plebian chocolate cake in the shipping box instead of the Italian Rum Cake I ordered, and, incredibly, that unwanted chocolate cake was accompanied by THEIR OWN FLYER BOASTING ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL THEIR ITALIAN RUM CAKE IS! Montilio's Bakery in Quincy made our Wedding Cake years ago - it was a custom (tall) carrot cake base with several chocolate cake "mountains" on the top to fit our hiking/skiing theme. IT WAS AN EXCELLENT CAKE!! The flavors were over the top and 19 years later we are *Still* receiving compliments over how Great the cake was that day. I wrapped a piece of the carrot cake to save for our 1st Anniversary and it was equally both moist & delicious a year later! We are in an incredibly volatile economy, and this store serves a community that is NOT Wellesley or Brookline. Despite confirming the order twice and several emails . The decorator spelled the name wrong . Then they attempted to fix it in Quincy . But Quincy doesn't do the decorating. If we didn't look we'd have walked out with the wrong name . There was no quality control from Brockton or Quincy . Only solutions provided was to drive 45 mins (1.5 hours round trip) to have Brockton fix it or drive to Quincy and return the cake. The most moist and delicious cakes!! We ordered a chocolate cake with raspberry mouse filling and vanilla butter cream frosting for our daughter's confirmation cake. It was Outstanding!!! We had Montilio's make our wedding cake and it was amazing. If you want a cake that not only looks nice but actually tastes superb this is the place. 9/4/2020 Ordered cake - 9/9/2020 Picked up the cake Ordered a German Chocolate cake from Montilios in Quincy MA. This bakery has been a staple in the community for years with a couple of locations. I wish when you walk in, you could smell cakes baking in the oven, but there is a reason for that. More later. They have pastries that you'll find at other bakery's. All of them looked appetizing. They have Pizza. A customer ordered 2 iced coffee that looked like the perfect iced coffee. I looked to the left of me while explaining how I'd like it to be decorated, and noticed that JFK had his wedding cake made there. Why the plaque wasn't it being displayed, hung on the wall, I don't know. HUH?? Pick up of the cake. - For decorations I wanted a teal or silver ribbon that read, Happy Anniversary. Why? Because it was a Silver Anniversary. The ribbon was gold. Also, the cake plate was suppose to be silver. That as well was gold. When I told them of the error, i was told that the Cakes are made in the Brockton location. So.... That sounds like an excuse to me. The cake maker has to read and create the cake to the customers specifications. I'm sure I'm not the first person this has happen too, so Quincy location should at least have all color ribbons, plates, markers etc. For quick fixes. Also the cake looked small to me, but it was the size I ordered. Again, I ordered a German Chocolate Cake and it taste nothing like an authentic German Chocolate. It was a delicious chocolate cake. This place has the best Italian eclaires in the area. we call them "half pound eclairs" because they are are so big and dense. It's also one of the only places I can find a lemon Danish (in the form of their figure 8 Danish with lemon and raspberry) which is my favorite breakfast treat. I gush about their pastries but their savory food is good too. I like to grab a few aranchini to heat up for a quick dinner. We ordered a variety of items --from beautiful tarts, fresh bread,and delicious muffins to custom short bread cookies for a party and everything was delivered beautifully and tasted wonderful. I'm not one to normally post reviews but I definitely see a great value in supporting local businesses, especially one as exceptional as this one!
