A hidden gem in Braintree. I've only done pre-ordered cakes and desserts and they have always been delicious. Made a last minute order for Thanksgiving for an apple pie and an upside down caramel apple bread pudding and they were great. Pick up was easy with very friendly service. Prices are also reasonable. To set expectations, the place definitely has more of a family run vibe and their website could use an update, but their desserts are modern, beautiful, and delicious. read more

I preordered a cake for my sister who lives in Quincy as I live in New Jersey and I wanted to do something special for her birthday. The cake was suppose to be delivered today at 12pm, I get a text from seamless 18 minutes before it was suppose to arrive saying Brian's Fine Desserts needed to cancel my order and I was refunded. Most people don't just order cakes to order cakes. They are for special occasions and this was a complete letdown and now I look like the worlds worst sister! I didn't get reached out by Brian's Fine Desserts directly which just goes to show you how little they care about their actual clients. I usually order from Montilio's but decided to try someone new for a chance. Will never do that again! Not once has Montilio's cancelled my order, let alone 18 minutes before it was scheduled to be delivered!!! Really disappointed in this establishment. Glad to see him still in business despite the pandemic. Best to call 2 days ahead to place your order. There's a few coffee cakes and some individual cakes you can buy if you walk in but selection is extremely limited, understandably since business is still slow. Good experience overall. He is brisk on the phone cos he's working alone but when you walk in to pick up your order, he is nice and will spend time to chat with you despite the phone constantly ringing. Check his hours. They were so kind enough to take a birthday cake order for my husband the day before we needed it and made it fresh just hours before we could pick it up. The owner and his wife are both so personable and kind. Unlike other bakeries and dessert places, their desserts and cake slices were not super sweet. Their tropical ecstasy cake (my husband wanted a fruit cake) was delicious. Our family enjoyed it. They didn't have bananas so the owner Andrea asked my husband if he was okay with peaches instead and my husband was glad his cake had peaches, kiwis, strawberries inside and chocolate-dipped strawberries on top. If I told you I found a place that had the most amazing staff and moist coffee cake... would you believe me? I sure hope so but either way you must come and check this place out. I stopped but for a pastry snack, given the impact of COVID on small businesses it had less choices then hoped. The thing is it did not matter.... the coffee cake purchased was truly the most amazing thing I have ever had for breakfast I also will note that I picked up a red velvet cupcake that was fresh and topped with an incredible frosting. The customer service here was good. The lady was super sweet when I came to pick up my cake so I wanted to at least mention that. However, the quality of the frosting is not what it used to be. Don't get me wrong, the cake was beautifully decorated, but the taste of the frosting was strange. I saw a review that mentioned the frosting had a 'chemical after taste' and I thought "well this person must have not gotten the cakes I have gotten in the past." Sadly, when I had a first bite of the cake, I could tell immediately the taste of the frosting was not the same. I then thought back to the review of the person who mentioned the chemical after taste and knew exactly what they meant. It was almost a bleach or plastic like taste. Also, I chose the chocolate buttercream frosting and it barely had a chocolate flavor to it. I really hope they make their frosting like they used to because honestly a couple of years ago when I had it, I would say it was one of the bests cake I ever had. After exploring all of the bakeries in the area, I ordered a Strawberry Supreme Cake for my husband's birthday from Brian's because his prices were significantly lower than a comparable cake anywhere else in the area- even Stop and Shop and Shaws! It only cost $30 for an 8" inch cake, with layers, filling, chocolate covered strawberries on top, and a personalized birthday message. And it tasted delicious, too! The whipped cream frosting was thicker than most, but still wasn't too sweet (which is what makes me adverse to buttercream frostings). Everyone at the party gushed over how good the cake was and asked for seconds/to take slices home. I definitely recommend Brian's for your next event, and we will be back! read more

My husband swung by the bakery last week to pick up some dessert as a pick me up for our daughters. The service was great, friendly and quick. We grabbed a few of their baby cakes which were the perfect size to grab a bunch of different flavours. We picked our favorites, carrot cake (nut free) and strawberry supreme (strawberry shortcake with custard) and tried flavors we never had before, lemon raspberry mousse and grand marnier chocolate mousse. I can't believe this place has not gotten a review yet. I had to order a last minute cake enough to serve up to 18 people and did not want a sheet cake. I called a few places with great reviews but had no luck. Good thing because Brian's offered a triple chocolate mousse cake that was available and gosh, it was sooo delicious. The cake was a four layer cake with the bottom layer being a chocolate cake, on top, dark chocolate mousse, then milk chocolate mousse on top of that, and the top layer is white chocolate mousse. The cake is then covered in shaved chocolate and decorated with chocolate covered strawberry. This probably sounds really sweet but it isn't at all. The cake was beautifully assembled. The mousse layers are all light and airy with the perfect amount of sweetness. The actual chocolate cake on the bottom was moist. Everyone at the party enjoyed the cake even a friend who doesn't eat a lot of sweets. Most importantly, the birthday boy liked it. A triple chocolate mousse cake enough for 15-18 people was just about $36 - decent price. And it was good...I'm so glad I found this place. Brian's is a Braintree gem that deserves to be recognized! Originally from the area, I have always enjoyed Brian's desserts and ordered cakes for co-workers Birthdays/special occasions. I recently moved out of the area and was in a bind to get a last minute cake for my sister's baby shower (I waited until the last minute) thinking I wouldn't have an issue, I called virtually every reputable bakery and not one could have anything ready for me by the next morning. At that point, I called Brian's (even though its an hour drive, I always had a great experience with them). I called them and explained the situation at 2pm and they agreed to help me out on this short notice, baking & customizing my sister's cake to be ready for pick-up by closing time that same day! What is even more, I was traveling out of state for my sister's shower and they actually packed the cake so it would be "travel friendly" and gave me directions as to how to store the cake while traveling. The Starwberry Shortcake not only looked fantastic but was absolutely fresh and delicious. The shower guests and my sister included were all raving about the cake, whew! My sister never would have guessed that this delicious cake may have been a boring sheet cake from a no-name bakery had it not been for Brian's coming through for me. I really encourage all of the Braintree residents and in the surrounding areas to think of Brian's on their special occasions. I ordered my wedding cake from here, and I was extremely impressed. We had a cake to serve about 110 people for about $430 (including delivery!), which, for a wedding cake, is as cheap as it gets. I tasted the cake at Dessert Works in Westwood, which I would rank about a hair higher in taste, but they were much more expensive, so I went with Brian's and I am very happy I did. We had three layers with a buttercream frosting and ribbon around each tier. To be honest, I wasn't wowed by the decorating portfolio, but I wanted something very simple and it turned out beautifully. I wish I ate more at the wedding, but the couple bites I had of the carrot cake were wonderful. We also had tiers of strawberry shortcake and Boston Cream. Heard about this place from a friend and decided to try it because I wanted someone different and I did a raspberry filled cake. So I ordered the cake and came to pick it up, and the price was too cheap, it was about half of what I expected. Which is great but I thought, "oh great, it's not going to be good, should have went to kondimeister" So the cake was amazing, it was for a birthday party and everyone kept asking where I got it, so moist and flavorful. Now I come here just for dessert for after dinner. You can get some cakes day of, but special orders you need to give a little notice. Buyer beware! I want to start by saying that we have gotten Chocolate Trilogy cakes from Brian's many times in the past and loved them. That is why we thought it would be a great cake to serve at our Mother's Day dinner. I picked the cake up at 10am on Sunday and when I went to serve it at 4pm, it was frozen in the middle. Since the cake is made completely of mousse, the fact that it was frozen made it inedible. It had a very icy texture and was just plain yucky because of this. No one ate the cake that was served to them and we ended up throwing all of the pieces away. I called the bakery this afternoon to tell them about the problem and the woman I spoke to told me that they freeze the mousse cake to make it stay together. I understand that this might be the process that they use to make the cake, but a customer should not be given a still frozen cake! She them told me that I should have called yesterday and she could have told me to put it into the microwave to defrost it. I explained that they closed at noon and I was serving it at 4pm. She then told me that she was there until 2pm on Sunday. I'm not sure what good that was going to do me! Is a customer really supposed to have to microwave a cake before it is served? When I asked for a refund, she told me that the only way I could get my money back would be to bring all of the cake back to her. I explained again, that I had cut the cake all up and served it to the guests who were them unable to eat it. She said that I should have had everyone scrape the cake back into the box and then she could give me my money back. Then she went on to say that if I still had any leftover, I could bring whatever small piece might be left back to her and they could refund me for that piece. I tried to explain my feeling that I should not have been given a frozen cake in the first place and she told me that she was very busy and didn't have time to explain to me again that I would have to bring the cake back for her to help me. Like it said, we have had good cakes from Brian's, but on the chance that it isn't good, beware because their customer service is the worst I have ever encountered! read more

My husband and I chose Brian's Fine Desserts to bake our wedding cake. We are so glad we went with them. They did such a great job. All of our guests loved the cake. It was beautiful and tasted GREAT! We got a 3 tiered cake with vanilla butter cream filling in 2 tiers and raspberry filling on one tier. Both flavors were great. I wish I could say that I liked this place better when Brian owned it, but the new owners are just as nice if not nicer. I am not Italiian and they do not care (thank God!). I feel like I'm walking into grandma's ktichen of a huge Italian family everytime I go in there and they welcome me as one of their own personal family members. What would be better? They make unbelievable cakes and I needed one for the most important day of my life. "Fine Desserts" does not even start to describe what they can deliver. I had a very hard time choosing what I wanted for my special (wedding) day. They were very patient. They had many suggestions, pictures, etc. Anything I wanted, they did. They also did my girlfriends wedding and she is very picky. She loved it. It was years ago and I still remember she had some type of unique orange cake and mine was all white, white cake, white chocolate, white frosting and fresh sweet raspberries.
