Montezuma is not doing traditional wine tasting these days but is offering a rather cool wine tasting kit with wine samples, crackers, chocolate fudge and a nice wine glass for keepsake. I really liked this idea of getting a wine kit to go and enjoying it on the lawn tables outdoors. Seemed much safer than how some of the other wineries were conducting their tasting. Also, the wines were really good and the staff was pretty quick with putting together the wine kits. I would love to return to this winery next time I'm in the area. read more

We had a great experience here. A SUNY Cortland student gave our tasting and was very friendly and outgoing without being overwhelming. They offer all types of wines, but specifically 5-7 dry reds which can be difficult to find in the Finger Lakes. Try the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. I am by no means a wine aficionado, I just know what tastes good and their wine selection is excellent. Their Cranberry Bog is a stapel at every Thanksgiving dinner for the past years. I had a good tasting experience here! The staff was very friendly and accommodating! None of the wines really "wowed" me, I like my dryer reds and just didn't find my wine. But I only tried 6 of their wines so I could have just chosen the wrong ones to try. The sparkling red is a very unique wine that intrigued me but wasn't quite good enough for me to commit to a bottle of. I loved the warm holiday blend they have but it requires you to buy two bottles of wine and a slice packet but it would be a really good holiday drink that people who like dry and sweet wine can both enjoy. read more

Cranberry Bog is one of my favorites and when it's in their slushy, it's absolute perfection. Montezuma sits at the very top of Cayuga Lake which creates a great scenic drive on the way there. read more

Full of touristy Christmas Tree Shop crap. None of the wines were great, and they charge you PER spirit to taste, with paltry 1/4 oz pours. Allegedly it's NY State law, though I am rather dubious. The servers were aloof and not terribly forthcoming with information that wasn't already on the sheets provided. The apple brandy and honey brandy were both pretty tasty, but not worth the near $30 price for a 375ml (small) bottle. Skip this one. There are plenty of other wineries in the area. This was touristy and lame. read more

Our first visit here. We had a lovely tasting as part of the Ithaca Loves Teachers Celebration. Staff was very knowledgeable and so kind. There were a lot of people at this wine tasting and the staff was great. Loved the wine, too. I tend to like sweet wines...the Diamond was delicious. Hubby loved the reds. Montezuma Winery is by far my favorite winery in the world. Their wines are unique and award winning. Some of my favorites are Camper's White, Diamond, Fat Frog Red, and Fat Frog White. If you like sweeter wines this is your place. They have lots of wines that are not sweet, but happen to have a large selection of both. Many wineries do not have such a variety of sweet wines. They have a gift shop too that is absolutely adorable. read more

I can not say enough about this fantastic fruit and mead winery. TRY THE CRANBERRY BOG! It's absolutely fantastic and for a fruit wine it's very versatile when it comes to being had with dinner or dessert. They also have a number of award winning meads. Originally, the family that runs this winery began as bee keepers. After a time of not seeing very much profit in that industry, the owner's son, newly out of college with an interest in making mead, turned the business around and voila! you have the Montezuma Winery. They do tastings nearly every day and it's pretty cheap. I believe for $2 you get to try 6 wines. They have a very long list. They're also getting into the distilling alcohol and had the first artisan distillery in the area. The pieces were made and shipped from Germany to be put together here. Though I heard from one of the people giving the tour that when they first put it together they put one part of it on backwards! Needless to say they've got things up and running and have been working on a honey vodka. I know I've labeled them as a fruit and mead winery, but they also carry grape varietals from chardonnay to cabernet sauvingon, but I have not tried them. read more

The first time I went up the Cayuga wine trail, I started in Ithaca and worked my up, which meant I didn't have time for Montezuma winery. I have finally corrected this, and I think this has become one of my favorite wineries. Unlike many others on the trail, they do not grow the fruits they use in their wines themselves. However, everything I tried at the tasting was delicious. They have a very creative variety of wines using all kinds of fruits and even a few mead selections. An unusual winery in the Finger Lakes region--lots of meads and fruit wines along with an assortment of traditional wines, all of which are very good. The location is a bit remote if you're coming up from the southern side of the lakes........but it is close to a nature preserve. The prices, like many Finger Lake wineries, are unbeatable. So you are rewarded for driving to this out-of-the-way spot. read more

The Montezuma store is cute and full of little trinkets and souvenirs. I really enjoyed their sweet wines and fruit wines. I couldn't resist buying a bottle of Tej (honey wine) and an apple currant wine. They also have a really nice rhubarb wine. What led to my downfall at a recent wedding reception, may have been the winery pre-gaming... But how can you pass up the opportunity when visiting Aurora! Here, however, was not the highlight of our vineyard discoveries. For $2, you get to choose a number of tastings from a long list of wines. And they do have some interesting selections, namely the ones that were made with fruit (other than grapes). And they were numerous. Also some interesting meads and liqueurs on the list. But unfortunately, the bulk of what we tried seemed watered down. The tasting room is also largely a touristy gift shop. And there's no vineyard here either, so no tours or scenic place to sit with a bottle. read more

Nice place to stop and try wines in the Finger Lakes. They are expanding into a distillery and had some super liquors to taste. Plenty of stuff to buy in their shop. Many fruit wines to taste, tried the Cranberry wine to compare to Turro Winery. Not sure if it was as good, but a nice product. read more

Stopped here on our route between Buffalo and Ithaca. The wine selection was great, and for $5 each we got seven decent samples. The fruit wines, especially Blue Moon (blueberry!) and Eskar Brook (cranberry-apple), were amazing. We got a short description of everything we tried and the woman serving the drinks was receptive to questions, although she was the only one facilitating wine tastings so when another group arrived, she had to go back and forth between groups. The building itself is essentially a wine-themed gift shop with lots of fun tchotchkes (but if you're looking for some ambiance, there's something to be desired). It's close to pretty views of the lake, and I think there was outdoor seating out back if you wanted to spend some time there. The price point was great and overall it made a great stop on our trip read more

Showed up a half hour before they closed knowing it was a tight visit. Planned on spending probably about a hundred bucks there between tastings and buying things. They told us they are already "closed" while about 8 of them were standing around with their coats waiting to leave. Have spent hundreds at montezuma before today. Will never spend another dollar there... very sad about their service today... zero stars!!! read more

This winery was cute. We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of options they had to choose from for a tasting. They had different varieties of wine I either had not heard of before or might not have tried on my own. The staff was friendly and their gift shop is very cute with unique gifts. The wine was pretty good. Their fruit wines were definitely worth the try. I'm not sure if I would stop by again, however. The servers were not very personable. There were two women behind the tasting bar, and they didn't seem enthusiastic at all when I was going for my tasting. They didn't try to describe any of the wines, encourage me to try things based on my likes, or as anything beyond telling me "choose 6 wines. Pay $3 before you do tastings...". I would have hoped they could provide more information on what I was drinking and how the wines were made. I left thinking they just wanted me to drink and rush out. It was a Sunday at 4pm. I'll give kudos to the young cashier who explained more about my purchase. read more

This is one of my favorite Cayuga Lake Wineries. They have a nice variety of dry to sweet wines that includes fruit and meads. There are a few spirits and liqueurs to try as well - my favorite is the Maple Liqueur. You can also try a sample of their fudge - there is a wide variety to choose from. read more

I visit Montezuma every time I go to Cayuga lake. Pay the extra $1 or so to keep the wine glass, then ask for the adorable little brandy snifter instead. I have a few in my collection and just love them. They have some interesting fruit wines here, and also cute gift items. read more

I love this place. So charming, a wide variety of wines, friendly staff. There's a lot of cute kitschy things if you're into that, lends a fun atmosphere. They're often known for their Fat Frog Red in the store, and the Cranberry Bog wine which is delicious for holidays... But I really love semi dry whites and I was pleasantly surprised! Try the mead and the Riesling as well, that wine region is actually well known for their Riesling wines....they have alot of other nick-nacks for sale as well. They offer locally sourced cheeses, whiskeys and crafts....definitely worth a stop in! read more
