Visited CJS Vineyards on Sunday afternoon. A lovely vineyard with an excellent assortment of wines all served up by a talented and knowledgable winemaker. Quality: CJS Vineyards is a smaller winery, but they have some seriously tasty wines. During our tasting we tried Villagio Blanco, Estate Dry Riesling, Estate Semi-dry Riesling, Fosterville White, Estate Semi-sweet Riesling, Estate Winter Rose, Estate Pinot Noir 2017, Estate Chambourcin 2017, and Fosterville Red. My two favorites were the Estate Semi-dry Riesling, which as someone who is not big on whites really wowed me, and the Estate Chambourcin 2017, a very unique dry red with an incredible spiciness to it. The only wine I was not crazy about was the Fosterville Red, a sweet wine that was a little too much like grape juice for me. Quantity: Very happy to adjust pours based on preference, but really did an excellent job in pacing things out allowing time to savor each one. Value: $5 for a Tasting of all 9 wines on the menu. $13-$19 for Wine Bottles. Ambiance: CJS Vineyards is located in the Upstate New York city of Auburn. After heading up a short driveway you are met by a house as well as the tasting room. The tasting room is pretty small and shares the space with a bunch of barrels. It was a little chilly on this day, but as the first guests it had not had much time to heat up. I loved how the windows on the side of the space looked up at the vines, which on this day were covered in snow, but were easy to imagine being covered in grapes in warmer months. Crowd: On a cold and snowy Sunday afternoon we were the first to arrive, but the owner quickly shoveled a path and started leading us through the wines. I would recommend giving a quick call ahead because the small space may limit the number of guests. Service: The wonderful owner and winemaker was a perfect guide to trying out the complete list of wines available. Unbelievably knowledgable and extremely passionate about his work. Parking: Small parking lot near the home on the property.

A very cozy winery own by a local couple. The winery is located in front of their house, right beside the grape vineyards. Chris and his wife provided excellent costumer service. They offered a tasting of 8 different wines (more on the dry side of the tasting spectra). We tried them all and I ended buying a bottle of Fosterville white (in a mid range of not too dry or sweet). Pros: Individual costumers service, which provides the space for good conversation. Cons: Is more on the small size winery. I don't think they can fit a group larger than 10ppl.

Chris is awesome! Stopped on a whim on a cold winter day and he took the time to talk with me and my parents about their wines and so many interesting things. Will definitely plan on stopping back my next time in the finger lakes!

It was a quiet day so Chris, the owner, was able to spend a lot of time with us.

I'm not sure if customers are able to walk the vineyards because it was raining when we got there. We stopped in for wine tastings - $20 for the preset menus and $25 for selecting your own wines. The tasting includes 4 wines and I thought the pours were generous. We also ordered a pepperoni pizza with hot honey to share and it was delicious. The service at the vineyard is a little strange because we sat in the main room upon entry but were told to go pick up our pizza in a different room. Thankfully they weren't very busy and the sweet lady that poured our wine ended up bringing the pizza over to us. They have 3 or 4 different rooms you can sit in. We chose the main room with both low top and high tops, one room had a fireplace to snuggle up next to in cooler months, and then the outdoor seating where they had live music allowed you to feel the breeze and see some views. The wine was good - our favorite of the day being the Cayuga White so we purchased a bottle to share which is a much better deal than buying by the $12 glass. This is a great place to hangout with friends or go on a date. It wasn't too busy on a Saturday afternoon but steady and very enjoyable. We played cards while we sat and drank and it was a wonderful time.

We opted to not order food since service was slow on this day and the staff were not very friendly. My only other issue was that we ordered a whole bottle of wine and they didn't give us a chiller to keep it in, I had to ask for one. Overall this is a nice place with great wines and views, but I just wish the customer service was a bit better!

A husband and wife own this place and they couldn't have been more friendly and hospitable. They had. A nice selection of dry and some sweet wines so there was something for every taste. We each did a tasting and really enjoyed the Chardonnay and the Riesling. They also have a space here for events. It's beautiful so it's defiantly a perfect spot for that if you are in need.

We made it to the other side of the lake! Our adventure today took us to Izzo's White Barn Winery,…read morea small but welcoming spot tucked into the beautiful Finger Lakes wine region. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with a cozy, down-to-earth atmosphere that made us feel right at home. We started our tasting with their unoaked Riesling, a bright and lively wine crafted from grapes grown along the shores of Seneca Lake. It had an enticing aroma and a clean, crisp finish that really highlighted the natural fruit flavors. Next up was the LaCrescent, a white varietal that was refreshingly dry with a subtle citrusy edge and just the right amount of acidity--perfect for sipping on a cool afternoon. After that, we moved on to the Cayuga White, a semi-sweet offering that had a beautifully smooth mouthfeel and a well-balanced sweetness, making it an easy favorite for those who enjoy wines with a hint of fruit-forward character. Finally, we wrapped up our tasting with the Maréchal Foch, a deep, dry red with rich notes of black cherry and a velvety smooth finish. This one stood out as a great example of how lesser-known hybrid grapes can still deliver bold and elegant flavors. During our visit, we had the pleasure of chatting with the owner (at least, we believe it was the owner!), who shared some insight into the winery's operations. He explained that they grow three to four different grape varietals in their own vineyards, while supplementing with additional grapes sourced from other vineyards throughout the Finger Lakes region. It was clear that there's a strong sense of community among winemakers in the area--he described it as a "big happy family" that collaborates to support each other through every step of the winemaking process. One of the most interesting tidbits we learned was about the live musician performing that day--not only does he provide entertainment for visitors, but he also plays a huge role in the winemaking process, handling 80-90% of the work at the winery! It was incredible to see such a hands-on approach, where passion for both music and winemaking came together in such a unique way. As for the owner himself, he had an infectious sense of humor--quick-witted, engaging, and full of personality, he made our experience even more memorable. The winery is relatively small and appears to have limited hours, especially in the winter when it's only open on Saturdays. If I remember correctly, they may extend to two days a week during the busier months, but it's definitely one of those hidden gems that's worth navigating to if you're in the area. All in all, Izzo's White Barn Winery turned out to be a fantastic stop, offering a delightful mix of great wine, warm hospitality, and local charm. It's the kind of place where you don't just taste wine--you get to experience the heart and soul behind it.
