I checked my rewards account.It states that you need sixty points to get a free coffee.I had sixty three points period I drove twenty miles to get this ice coffee.I had to wait fifteen minutes with one car at the window. When I got up to the window, I asked if they were short staffed, they dismissed me.And said, no, with no explanation for the long wait or apology. I asked her to check my number about my free coffee.She said, i'm sorry, no, you don't have enough points.You need seventy five I told her that online.It says, you only need sixty.She did not offer me a free coffee. I gave them my order and I forgot to tell them half ice.There was no way to contact them once they closed that window.I sat there and honked my horn a couple times and I knocked on the tip thing, and nobody could hear me when she opened the window, I informed her.I do need half ice please. Fiona was not very nice.She was quite rude.I won't be back... As I am writing this review, i'm looking at the size of my coffee and realized I did ask for a twenty ounce, and they gave me a sixteen ounce, now the line is so long.I can't even go back to have it corrected.How extremely disappointing?I will never be back

It really makes a difference in the cup of coffee! I've always wanted to stop by for the $1 pour over (I'm not sure if they're still doing it anyway, but I envy those who have had this experience!). I also want to acknowledge the business owner; he really did a lot for the community in the early days of the pandemic and I'll never forget that. There were 5-6 people behind the counter, all loudly gossiping with each other, but only 2 seemed to be making a drink. As the line grew behind me, there was no attempt to help anyone. When it was finally my turn, the first eye contact was when the screen with tip choices was pivoted to me. Its a shame, as the brewed Columbian coffee I bought was good even though it was not fleshed brewed and sat in a pump thermos. It seems like Union Place typically has an excellent and varied selection of different beans, but it was too close to Christmas and they were running low on it all. My friend came out from behind the counter, and helped my navigate what was still available. I got a lot of beans, they ground them for me for the right filters (while I sat in a very comfortable chair), and I was out of there. If you actually drink coffee, I bet you'll like this place even better than I do.

The vibe was relaxed and low-key, making it a good place to sit down and get some work done. I spent some time working while I was there and appreciated having a space where I could focus without feeling rushed. The staff was pleasant, and one of the employees was kind enough to take a picture for me when I asked, which I appreciated. The only thing that stood out to me was that there wasn't much of a greeting or acknowledgment when I walked in, but it wasn't a huge issue. The seating was okay. The chair I chose wasn't the most comfortable for an extended stay, but it got the job done. There was also some rock music playing during my visit, which helped create a casual atmosphere. I didn't order any coffee or food this time around, so I can't speak to the menu yet. This visit was more about finding a place to work and unwind for a bit. Would I come back? Yes. While I'm still searching for my go-to coffee lounge in Syracuse, Recess is definitely a spot I'd visit again.
