We were seated in a cozy cove in the back of the restaurant, they had seating for two and seating for large groups like birthdays! We started our meal off with focaccia and it had a light addition of Parmesan, it was delicious! We also had the branzino and a truffle pasta that I'll dream about. Monteverdi is vintage-chic Paris at its finest--an intimate piano bar where the decor whispers old-world charm and the singer (switching seamlessly between English and French) sets the perfect mood for the space. We started with the Carciofi Alla Romana (Roman-Style artichokes, oven-baked with lemon, Parmesan, white wine & basil). Then came my pasta dilemma: spicy Penne Arrabbiata which had a Spicy tomato sauce with garlic (safe bet) or Linguine Al Pesto Verde with dry tomatoes, fresh zucchini, homemade pesto verde, confit lemon & pine nuts (tasty risk). I chose the latter and let me tell you, that Linguine might just be the best pasta I've ever had in my life! SERIOUSLY, and I've had plenty. The only tragedy, is I was so full I couldn't finish, and my hotel wasn't equipped with a fridge or microwave to let me relive the magic via leftovers . We wrapped the night with strawberry sorbet and the Crema Al Limone, sweet, tangy, and the perfect finale. Le Monteverdi, in St Germain des pres, is a great Italian restaurant within a great neighborhood with a piano player and warm fireplace. The vibe is Ralph Lauren but authentic...this is what Ralph Lauren was going for. The food is good and the wine is affordable. Service is unobtrusive, just like you want it...there if you need it but happy to give you your space if you need it. They get it. Warm and inviting seats and well, did I tell you there was an amazing piano player there...classics and renditions of contemporary songs like Cold Play...enough said. If half stars were available, I'd actually go with 3.5 stars, but we all know that's not possible. My husband and oldest thoroughly enjoyed their dishes. My youngest and I did not enjoy ours. The arancini was good, along with the spaghetti all'ortolana (husband) and bucatini agli scampi (oldest). The pasta was cooked perfectly and flavor was quite good. The carbonara and the gnudi verdi weren't as enjoyable. The carbonara was very thick and the pasta was uncooked by quite a bit (we prefer al dente, not 'just shy' of crunchy). I can't really explain what I didn't like about the gnudi, but I'm going to chalk it up to just not being the dish for me. The restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere, excellent service, and excellent music. Even though, not one of our higher ratings, I would go back and give it another try. read more

I've been coming to Le Monteverdi for years and have always enjoyed it! Tucked away on a small street in the St Germain area, it's a cozy restaurant with stone walls and wood paneling which serves perfectly grilled meat, fish dishes and homemade pasta. We really enjoyed the freshly made ravioli and grilled sea bass. The wine list was thoughtfully curated and the Barolo was fairly priced. The service was friendly and unobtrusive. I nearly never leave bad reviews for restaurants. I have family and friends in the industry, and I know how difficult it is to turn out great food and great service on every occasion. But the dish I was served at Monte Verde was literally inedible, a veal cutlet that was so dried out and so tough that I couldn't cut it with a knife nor chew it once I managed to tear us small piece off of it. After about three bites I gave up. Served along with it was a pile of undressed, uncooked, leathery spinach leaves, and some cold and unpleasantly flavored mashed potatoes. When the server came to collect our dishes, she asked me if I'd liked it. I said clearly I did not, that it was awful, and in fact, I couldn't eat it. I described the meat to her as I did above, and she shrugged and said oh well that's veal scallop. The whole point of veal is of course that it's tender and flavorful. Assuming you've treated it right before you cooked it, it should be tender, but when you've cooked it so long that it's completely dried out and gray, it should be evident that you've done that wrong. I pointed this out politely, of course. She shrugged. No offer was made for a replacement nor for taking anything off the bill, though I had taken literally three bites of the meat and maybe one of the nasty potatoes. It's a beautiful restaurant, with a very pleasant atmosphere and we were served quickly. My husband's pasta dish was fine, if not stellar. First courses of arugula salad and focaccia were unremarkable and that's a generous assessment. Paris is a food town, but it's very easy as a visitor to find yourself in a place like this. Very disappointing. We arrived and the place had a very strong smell, although this may not be their fault it does play in to the experience. Then we were served bread and prosciutto, the bread was at least 1 day old bread and the prosciutto was cut into steaks. We then received an Osso buco which was good, but it had a side of soggy and watery pasta, we also had the carbonara which was quite salty. However the pianist was very good and the place feels cozy. The service was quite standard but good. Overall i feel like for the price we paid it isn't up to standard. read more

My 14 year old daughter and I visited Le Monteverdi during the Summer of 2023. We both thought the food was spectacular but what caused us to return a second time during the trip was our lovely waitress, Lucie. She was a true delight and we had so much fun talking with her. We went back again the Summer of 2024 and Lucie remembered us! This time, our entire family came and all had a wonderful time. This is a super-cozy restaurant in a cute neighborhood. The perfect spot on a cold winter night complete with a piano bar. The food is very good. The menu has many options and we where informed by our waitress to choose pasta dishes instead of pizza. There was only one waitress working this evening...the poor thing was working very hard and had to run around both sides of the restaurant and attend the bar. The service was prompt. We had to request a different table due to a strong sewage odor which we where told had been a problem-perhaps due to a lot of rain this winter. As much as I love French food, sometimes a break is good, and Monteverdi totally fits the bill. As other reviewers have noted, the food itself is very well executed and mainly traditional Italian fare. The menu isn't extensive but each course, starter and main, has been very fresh and appetizing. The service is efficient and friendly, but what other reviewers haven noted is that Monteverdi features a jazz pianist and sometimes a vocalist most nights. This makes for an immersing evening, indeed. The decor is warm, even old-school, with lots of wood, a wall of books, and even a fireplace. The only drawback, to me, is that the seating is a bit low and if the lights were turned up you'd notice that the paint and trim are a bit tired. But bottom line, a great place to bring friends and take in the music. Monteverdi is in a little maze of a neighborhood full of little restaurants, bars, and boutiques so there's a steady stream of foot traffic, few cars, and thus is great for carousing. read more

Love love love! Old world charm decor, great food, and the most amazing piano player made our last night in Paris one of our favorites! My husband had Fillet and I had the Penne Arrabbiata and both were delicious! The sad part was the other patrons seemed to not truly appreciate the talent of the young woman playing the piano as they were chatting loudly. That's Their loss, she was magnificent ! Best Italian restaurant I've ever been to anywhere. Our party of 12 were treated to a private room with candle lit bottle service of two powerful French red wines. Of course the bread was amazing, but the bruschetta with shaved truffle appetizer and Eggplant Veal Lasagna entrée changed my perception of dining experiences in Paris altogether. It was a perfect last meal at a place that even offered an English language menu. If you want Italian in France you cannot go wrong by visiting this place.
