They were closed the following day (Sunday) so we were somewhat surprised to be greeted warmly and shown to a table which they made up for us. We were given a couple of menus, and told by our waiter in a nice way that the clock was ticking for the kitchen so we quickly chose a couple of pizzas and a bottle of wine. Having worked in kitchens before, I know first hand that latecomers are not the most welcome by the kitchen staff when they are trying to clean up and get out to enjoy their evening and the following day off. The food was wonderful, pizza dough was crispy, the toppings fresh in spite of the late hour, and the wine was excellent. Now the prices we have come to recognize in our first few days in Paris are pretty steep relative to Vancouver, which is saying something, but we feel we got our monies worth. One thing to remember in France when using a credit card is that you cannot add a tip on the machine, so bring cash with you to tip. If you add it to the bill on the machine the establishment gets the money not the person who waited upon you. Cash goes to them and them alone. We are leaving Paris in the morning and heading back to Fenice again this evening, a little earlier this time to enjoy their fine food one more time. Highly recommended from our first experience, here's hoping for a repeat. Bon appetit! The restaurant did not disappoint. After delicious starters of eggplant, rocket and Parma ham we enjoyed scrumptious mains with veal, beef medallions, lamb and rhombus pasta all thoroughly enjoyed. The dinner was perfectly complimented with two Cabernet Sauvignons from different regions each uniquely delicious. Finished with a tasty selection of dessert and coffee. The main courses, which took a long time to order, and much longer to appear, were spaghetti with clams and calamari, and a tubular pasta with tuna and a seasoned tomato sauce. The spaghetti with clams and calamari was tasteless and the calamari was the consistency of rubber bands. The tuna pasta was passable but the sauce was nice. The "fresh" tuna was not. We tried to order wine at the beginning but after our waiter delivered our still water, there was not an opportunity to do so. Once our food arrived we had lost our interest in a glass of wine and wanted this dining experience to end. Our bill included both bottles of water which I had to dispute. They have table top for about 40 max but the best seats in the house if you're no more than a party of three is the bar. You're able to see all the action from the 3-4 staff members, including the husband and wife duo who own the restaurant. The kitchen is very small but damn do they whip out some major flavor. One thing that my cousin and I agreed was the passion and hospitality you feel here. Upon sitting down you're given a complimentary small bite and then eventually given a bowl of bread. I was lucky enough to sit adjacent to the bread cutting station and I didn't even know how much I enjoyed that seat. (Also probably didn't hurt I was able to grab more bread easily. #carbsarelife) Now the prosciutto they have cured here is smack-licking good. I enjoyed the wine and there's a reason why they have a limited menu. I had a wonderful evening and highly recommend you get lost in the city and cap your night here. (Sounds bad but for those travelling from the States, keep in mind that dining experiences are meant to be enjoyed and not a in-n-out experience. Enjoy the company and get lost in the moment. I got a steak for the main course which was great. It had sliced black truffles on it too and some sort of soaked thin bread underneath. Ask to look at their cocktail menu! It is a pop up book! I did not have to wait more than 2-3 minutes to speak with my server and give my drink order. The server was knowledgeable and helpful, he didn't give me any attitude or act irritated as I only speak English. The ambiance was very laid back, I sat in the front where I could view the street and enjoy some sunlight. I definitely recommend and I will be back soon!
