I work with Monterrey and their team day in and day out for my "day job" and they are amazing! I hadn't had a chance to use them for a personal project until my pool construction began and I made sure to select a pool company that purchased their tile and travertine through them. I have had a wonderful experience with them and I would highly recommend using them in the Phoenix market. The tile is exactly what I wanted (a hip, exciting, not your average pool tile vibe) and the travertine....you guys--the travertine is so freaking cool! It compliments EVERY color that I have going on back there and it is currently being installed by our hardscaping as I type. Look at how stunning the travertine is! EEEK! The "AFTER" much improved shower! It's hard to believe there are so many details to consider on one portion of the bathroom but I was able to take my time and think about all of them. Lory at Monterrey helped me with the wall tile and the accent tile I had found just before Covid hit was still available. Lory was even helpful after the sale with some other design questions which I really appreciated because I didn't have a designer helping me.  Everyone at Monterrey was so kind and pleasant, even the parts supply section in the back. I had quotes from several companies and ended up using Top Notch Tile which was on a list of companies recommend by Monterrey. Very good selection of tile. I would say that their selection is awesome and some are unique. Now, they never have samples and they even asked me if I would pay for shipping to have a sample piece. You have to pay for shipping for most of the items you order here. Which shipping on 4 different quotes I had was over $150. There are plenty of stores that won't charge you shipping. Some of their tile is unique though. The staff is friendly, the space is crowded but good selection of tile, they could do with a bigger store or at least more samples in hand as it's hard to make decisions sometimes without taking pieces home. I'm always happy to pay for sample and get a refund when returning them. We have purchased from them 3 times over the years. I like to come here for ideas and for a larger variety. Their shipping time is always pretty long, at least with my experience so plan accordingly. read more

In 2019, we purchased travertine pavers for our pool project from Patrick at Monterrey Tile. Both Patrick and Monterrey were recommended by our pool company. The Arena Cream travertine pavers selected had a solid surface both on their display at Monterrey Tile and appeared with no holes when the pavers were first installed. Patrick assured us that the pavers were durable and a good choice for our pool deck. The pavers were installed in July, 2019 and within one year, we learned that the white areas on the pavers were not part of the natural stone but instead were travertine saw dust filling the imperfections. Our pavers were rated as a "level 1" on our pool invoice which should have been a premium grade. Within one year, the white color in the travertine is washing away... revealing hundreds of small holes large holes ranging from 1"-2", rust/ocher discolorations and crumbling edges and corners. Bill Wheeler and Dylan from Monterrey and our pool company came out and replaced 7 pavers with 2" holes. Bill and Dylan struck a deal with our pool company to fill the 1" holes with grout. Some tiles have hundreds of small holes which penetrate the tile. Dylan suggested that I fill the small holes with sand. His fix for tracking sand into unwanted areas, was to put a bucket of water next to the pool and outside our door. We expected a somewhat more viable suggestion from Monterrey's designated expert! Several other consumers are registering similar complaints. Monterrey is not responding to the Better Business Bureau or similar posts on Yelp, and Angie's List. On another project Patrick suggested that Monterrey sold the customer a "bad batch of pavers" see Angie's List. I assume that Patrick is no longer with the company since his voice mail at Monterrey still says that he will be returning in October...(2019). read more

I went back to Monterrey to purchase additional Saltillo Tile when we decided to fill-in and re-tile our sunken living room about 4 years after the dining room and sunken living room were tiled. I expected to receive the same high quality tiles in 2022 as I had in 2018. I DID NOT! I reserved for pick-up more than 100 tiles sight unseen--I was required to sign a release that provided, among other things, I understood there could be imperfections, cracked/broken tiles, I could not hand-select my tiles, etc., BUT there would be no returns or refunds. My installer picked up the reserved tiles and when he started to go through them to prepare the installation, found there were dozens of cracked, broken, imperfect, low quality tiles--more than 30! I contacted my sales person who ratcheted up my complaint to some higher level who days later, advised I could bring back the broken tiles for replacement, not refund. I'd saved a dozen or so of the initially purchased tiles 4 years ago and the installation went forward with these and the best of a not so great group of recently purchased remaining tiles.. I did the exchange after the project was complete and the quality of the replacement tiles far exceeds that of what was in this group so now I have really great looking, quality tiles that are stacked up in the garage that will never be used. The difference in quality is obvious in the now level dining and living rooms and a rug was purchased to cover the much lesser quality tiles strategically placed in the center of the now raised living room. One star for the overall experience. No stars for the miserable experience of being provided with extremely low quality tiles. Three stars for the willingness of the sales person and "command structure" in fixing a problem that never should have existed in the first place. So no, I don't recommend Monterrey Tile for those wanting to purchase Saltillo Tile! read more

These people are ROCK STARS of customer service. I was referred by a local, expert tiler who told me to consult with Monterrey Tile for info on cleaning and sealing some marble in my bathroom. I came in and Ed and crew over in the Pro shop spent a long time with me asking me tons of questions about the tile, the space the shape and the residue I wanted to clean up. My purchase was only about $30, and yet they spent TONS of time with me to make sure I was buying the right combo of products. Then... they spent even more time with me to give me step-by-step instructions on how to clean the tile and seal it. I'm serious. They went through it step by step. And, because they were so extremely nice and cool with me (no good deed goes unpunished) I asked them about a bigger problem I had in my home that covered about 1/3 of the square footage - some potential bad grout. What did Ed do? He took out a business card and promised he'd have the grout manufacturer rep call me to come out and look at my home. Really? You've got to be kidding me. Nobody does this! I just came in to buy a bottle of cleaner and you're pulling a huge favor like this for me -- calling a favor in so I can solve a problem that won't net you any additional income? Yup. That's exactly what he did. And, not only that? Ed called a few days later to make sure the grout rep had gotten back to me. Insanely excellent, unheard of service. We're modeling our master bath and wanted to shop other than Home Depot or Lowe's. We wanted a look more specialized. Not HGTV look alike homes! We found Monterrey on Yelp. I was expecting high prices but with the help of Erica, we found the perfect tile that was priced low but still has that high end polished look. We couldn't believe it so we didn't purchase haha! Instead we went to Floor and Decor and Tile Shop and what do you know? The better deal and selection was at Monterey! So back we went and purchased our lovely tile. I went to several places in search of the right combination of tiles for my remodeling project, but only at Monterrey Tile did I find both a great sales rep and a wide selection of ceramic/porcelain tile, natural stone, and mosaics. Eric was excellent in converting the schematic we had drawn out for our remodel and turn it into reality. He was very knowledgeable about what they had in stock, and provided several different tile combinations that would look amazing in our bathroom. In addition to natural stone tiles such as travertine, shale, and limestone, they also sell a plethora of options in ceramic tile, including wood-like ceramic planks. Some of them were so realistic you wouldn't know they weren't natural stone (Or wood). They also sell mosaics, from the basic rectangular glass tiles to a lovely wavy pattern mix of glass and marble. Prices were very competitive compared to the other companies I looked at. One set of tiles I ended up buying were actually cheaper here than buying the almost exact same quality, shape, and appearance of tiles at Costco (Yes, apparently they sell ceramic/porcelain tiles at Costco now!). Once our order was placed, Eric was great at providing updates to when our order would come in. If I ever need to buy more tile for another remodeling project, this is the place I will go! read more

We have previously purchased tile from Monterey Tile, and it has been fine. However, this time, we did a total remodel using 3000SF of tile that we purchased from Pro Source Wholesale, and they got it from Monterey Tile. It is defective. They know it. Monterey Sales Rep, Mike, came out and saw it, and then had the rep from Landmark Ceramics come look at it. He said he was going to be back the next day to discuss issues and see what he could do. Nothing. No further response from them. I had an independent inspection done to prove it is defective. We purchased some floor tile at Monterrey at a really great price, but they charge a fee to take tile out of their warehouse and deliver to your car. Also any return items they subtract a 25% restocking fee. So be aware of that before purchasing. read more

We started a remodel in our master bath the installer and master tile designer Craig Afman and his co worker Eric recommended Monterrey Tile Company. When you walked in you knew first hand that the first impression was their outstanding customer service! We looked around a little and waited for available help, and Emily was worth the wait. Her patience's and knowledge of their products was wonderful. We picked out the tile and the border, I wished we could bring them in to look at the final product, just turned out wonderful. We also did a new backsplash in our kitchen, this was not as easy of a pick, we had a sample from another Tile place, but I was not happy with the customer service and did not want to go back. Jesus was available since Emily was off, he helped with a close color, and design to my sample. After a check of stock they did not have enough, and the installer Craig was going out of town, so time was short. So I expected to go back to the other Tile place. I called back Monterrey Tile and asked if there was anything they could do, well they did have the tile single pieces, which would have taken longer to install, they put me on hold to speak to the manger, and HAPPY me they could place the single pieces on a sheet, which would take about two days, since it was coming up to the weekend. AND it was less than the other Tile place!!! To my relief we said go for it, and a HUGE thank you EVERYONE, my backsplash looks BEAUTIFUL and finishes the kitchen.... After receiving this review, Monterrey Tile contacted me and wanted to make it right. I explained to them my issue and they offered to fix it. Within a week Mike with Delfino Tile came over and tucked the carpet in 5 doorways in about 30 minutes. It looks great! My suggestion when laying flooring is to know who is installing the floors and make sure to go over what is going to be done before they come over. (not with the salesman, with the installer) Choosing an installer is as important as choosing the flooring. I would recommend DelfinoTile.Com. He explained everything to me and said part of his standard practice is to clean up doorway transitions when installing new flooring. There's nothing more frustrating than spending thousands of dollars on flooring only to have an installer do a poor job. Today was my second experience with MTC-- and both experiences were great. First, the disclaimer: because of their slick TV ads, I thought their prices wouldn't be competitive. I was wrong. The first trip was last month when I shopped their Parking Lot sale at the Ray Rd store. I was looking for shower tile, but didn't really know what type I wanted. The sales rep was patient and kind; I gave him a general idea of what I wanted and he showed me options at several price points. In less than 20 minutes, I found beautiful tile, accents, and grout at fantastic prices. Today, DH and I were shopping for patio pavers. He had gone to the orange big box store and found some run-of-the-mill red brick pavers at just under $2 a sq ft. With the success I had last month, I asked him to hold off on purchasing those bricks until we could go to MTC Fortunately, they were open today (Memorial Day) for a few hours. The sales rep, Jeffrey, helped us find the perfect pavers: they have a variation of colors and came in varied sizes for more interesting pattern options. And for $1.49 a sq ft! They even gave us a pattern sheet to help with the paver designs. With their prices on not only the pavers, but the sand and gravel, we estimate that we saved over $500 by not buying from the big box store. Friendly, helpful staff and great products/prices. It's been months but I wanted to thank Farah and all the staff at Monterey Tile for my beautiful shower project. My son recommended them even though they they are several miles from my place it was worth it. I had shopped several places but it was nice to have the personal touch they provide over the large box stores plus their expertise. I did go with Prism grout which didn't require sealing. Tough to apply for an amateur. It sets up very fast and you need several hands cleaning it up immediately after. But that was my choice. All in all it came out beautiful.
