I first posted this review on another site right after the work was completed in December 2022. I want to add that every time we use our remodeled bathroom, we are so thankful that we used Nick and his crew to do the job. You may think it is just a bathroom and what is there to be excited about, but if you saw the before and now the after, you would not believe the magical transformation they did, turning coal into diamonds, so to speak. Here is my original review... "I wish there were more than 5 stars to give Montclair Plumbing and Heating, they are that good! We had a bathroom sink drain leaking from the pipe in the wall and needed someone who could come sooner than later. Being Christmas week, we were doubtful that we would be able to find someone. Nick from Montclair Plumbing and Heating responded the day we contacted him. Even though he was overbooked with jobs, he came that evening to assess what our needs were. It would either be a difficult job or a very difficult job, as I had expected. Thinking it would be weeks before he would find the time to do the work, Nick was able to squeeze us in right after Christmas. The pipe that was in the wall was basically disintegrated and had to be replaced. Nick cut open the wall, but only as much as he needed to in order to gain access to the pipe. Not nearly as much as I thought he would need to remove. After cutting the majority of the pipe, he snaked the remaining piece before replacing with PVC, a nice added touch. He put everything back together and the sink now works better than it ever did, as the drain is not only leak free, but is also now clog free all the way to the main. Nick left the work area spotless; so much so that you can't tell he was even there. We already have other work scheduled for Nick and his crew to do, including replacing the bathroom tub and shower." Now to add to the review regarding the bathroom: We had a fiberglass tub and shower wrap around. The tub had cracked underneath and was all rusty inside so we had to use a tub mat. The floor underneath the tub area had rotted in some spots and needed to be replaced. The vanity was in bad shape too. So we initially were just going to have the tub and vanity replaced, along with getting new floor tiles after the under-floor was repaired. FORTUNATELY Nick suggested we consider additional improvements, all the time saying he would do whatever we wanted and put no pressure at all to do anything more. However, after considering his suggestions, we elected to basically do the entire bathroom. Nick included so many upgrades, but at prices that were almost too good to be true. Rather than another fiberglass tub that I had wanted, we went with the steel tub Nick recommended and I am so glad we did. Just as an example, there are 3 different quality steel tubs of the same brand, each with a different warrantee. The one Nick put in was the best, with a lifetime warrantee. He used Moen fixtures and a Kohler toilet, but again, the better models of them. We picked out the floor and wall tile from a tile store Nick recommended, which was very nicely priced for high quality tiles. There were a lot of problems along the way with the original construction causing issues with the remodel. The type of things you cannot see until you do the demo. Regardless, Nick and his crew still finished on time and within budget. I might add that the total cost was much less than other estimates we had received over a year ago, and those were not including the better products Nick used. So this is why, every time we go into the bathroom, we are so thankful that we chose Montclair Plumbing and Heating to do this work. I highly recommend Nick and his crew for all of your plumbing needs. Thank you Nick!

Following my terrible experience and that of my neighbors, I doubt it will last much longer. Called for a leaking carbon monoxide (CO) issue with an existing steam boiler that was promptly addressed by the company. However, after their visit, the CO continued to be emitted from the boiler through CO detectors, prompting the fire department and PSE&G to intervene, who also detected high readings. Today, I called to inform them that CO detection was still ongoing. The owner, an angry, short-tempered know-it-all, cut me off and yelled, "NO, THERE IS NOT, THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS MY ENTIRE LIFE. WE FIXED THE PROBLEM. PAY THE INVOICE AND WE WON'T HAVE ANY ISSUES." I firmly told him that his attitude was unacceptable and that I would not pay until the issue was resolved. He laughed manically and said, "THANKS FOR SAYING THAT YOU WON'T PAY, BUDDY. THIS CALL IS RECORDED" before hanging up. I called back and calmly reiterated that I will not pay without resolution and that following his anger and yelling, I wasn't sure I trust them to touch the boiler again. The owner laughed again, said "GREAT, WE DON'T WANT YOUR BUSINESS", claimed that I didn't have to pay the invoice, and hung up again, likely because he realized he was in the wrong. It's unfortunate that the company's initial kindness turned sour when there was any potential for accountability or conflicts with their labor. I will recommend this company only to people I hate. If I could give zero stars, I would.

Although he argued that I was not charged twice for a service, I absolutely was but having dealt with his temperament in the past I decided not to argue with him and just paid him another $204 for the toilet to be unclogged again when it hadn't been unclogged during the first visit. I WILL NEVER USE THEIR SERVICES AGAIN. I will also make sure to warn my friends and community members as well on all social media outlets and review boards. I really don't know how they are in business after 114 years?! Scammers.

He and his man shoveled all the walkways and the driveway so my wife could get her car out in the morning. They did this because they wanted to make sure the repair would work, and after the installation of the part, there was a certain amount of time the system needed to reboot. I repeatedly tried to pay him for all the extra attention and he refused. This is a true pay it forward company. There are few of these type of businesses these days. He limits his client base because it's not about the money it's more of a passion for this guy. I wish you nothing but more success.

When I called insurance to find the next step, I was told they have to send it to another company, for some reason. It came to a head at the end of September, and they finally agreed to just pay a base fee for coverage based on the plan. Prior to this, NO MENTION of a cap payout prior! They provided a quote and phone number to do the job from one of the plumbers who came out. It was an LLC. When I searched the phone number, it was linked to a plumber and a driving school! Needless to say, did not go with them. Now, the reason we are here... along came Peace of Mind plumbing. Mike arrived as promised, quoted the job, and provided a date to install, no fuss, no muss. The installation date came, and it was magic. From the delivery of a new boiler, the breakdown, the tow-away of the old unit, and the installation, everything was flawless and clean. The "Peace of Mind" team worked as an artistic swimming team (including music). It was a pleasure to see the teamwork. A shout-out to Mike and his team. Enrique S

While it is currently running (knock on wood), a guest recently remarked that the filter on my external fan unit looked dirty and that you're supposed to get annual maintenance on these units. As part of the Yelp message process, I left my contact information and provided two photos. Eventually, Urban Mechanical sent a message via Yelp to contact them via phone. I called by phone and spoke to the owner, Hector. He looked at my Yelp information and confirmed my request. He then told me that he had a 4-week backlog of appointments and apologized that he didn't have time at the moment to service my request. He said that if I texted him my contact info directly, he could reach out to me if there were any cancellations in the next 4 weeks. Although Urban Mechanical didn't have any appointment openings to service my request, I appreciate their transparency instead of just ghosting me. If they can be transparent about their scheduling, I am confident that they will be transparent about their work. EDIT: I received a call from Miguel a few days later that a cancellation happened -- he actually followed up, which doesn't always happen with other vendors. He came over at the appointed time. He had shoe covers to prevent tracking stuff indoors from his work boots! He did the inspection of the interior and exterior unit and cleaning. Miguel explained to me what he was doing and why and had no problems whatsoever in answering my questions. (I was like a kid asking "obvious" questions, but I really didn't know much about the AC system -- that exterior unit "filter" I described earlier was actually a coil.). Miguel was very thorough with the cleaning. The exterior unit was really dirty and he had heavy duty cleaner fluid and attached the bottle to my lawn hose and washed down the unit. Then, he dried it up with his towel. Miguel did find some potential mildew/mold build up, but this required installing a UV light, which was not covered in this service/inspection call (which is fine). He would prepare a proposal with several options to address that. In conclusion, Urban Mechanical has excellent customer service and does thorough work, so they deserve this 5-star review.

From the owner answering the phone, to the kind, and understanding and professional attitude. urban mechanical went above and beyond. Miguel provided very detailed diagnostic and explain the appointments of maintenance to me. I have already referred him to others and plan to use this company for all my future needs. I explained multiple times that I'm a renter, that I was panicking a bit, and that I genuinely did not know what to do. Instead of helping, the woman on the phone told me they wouldn't be able to assist because I'm a renter and because my building has maintenance/property management. She even incorrectly told me "that's what your lease says," which was not true. My property manager had already told me I could handle the repair and deduct the cost from rent. What frustrates me most is what happened next: I called Dr. Drip Plumbing & Heating, and the VERY FIRST thing they did was calmly explain how to shut off the water to stop the leak immediately. Roto-Rooter never once mentioned this -- despite knowing I had no idea what I was doing and that water was actively leaking. That basic advice could have saved me a lot of stress in the moment. It really felt like Roto-Rooter only cared whether they were getting paid, not whether a stressed customer actually needed help. Meanwhile, Dr. Drip Plumbing & Heating immediately treated me like a human being and helped me solve the immediate problem before anything else. If you're in Jersey City, I'd strongly recommend supporting a smaller local company that actually cares about people.
