I contacted Urban Mechanical via Yelp to see if I could get a technician to do a maintenance check on my central air A/C. It has been five years since any technician looked at it. While it is currently running (knock on wood), a guest recently remarked that the filter on my external fan unit looked dirty and that you're supposed to get annual maintenance on these units. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As part of the Yelp message process, I left my contact information and provided two photos. Eventually, Urban Mechanical sent a message via Yelp to contact them via phone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I called by phone and spoke to the owner, Hector. He looked at my Yelp information and confirmed my request. [[HIGHLIGHT]]He then told me that he had a 4-week backlog of appointments and apologized that he didn't have time at the moment to service my request.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He said that if I texted him my contact info directly, he could reach out to me if there were any cancellations in the next 4 weeks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Although Urban Mechanical didn't have any appointment openings to service my request, I appreciate their transparency instead of just ghosting me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If they can be transparent about their scheduling, I am confident that they will be transparent about their work. [[HIGHLIGHT]]EDIT: I received a call from Miguel a few days later that a cancellation happened -- he actually followed up, which doesn't always happen with other vendors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He came over at the appointed time. He had shoe covers to prevent tracking stuff indoors from his work boots! He did the inspection of the interior and exterior unit and cleaning. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Miguel explained to me what he was doing and why and had no problems whatsoever in answering my questions.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] (I was like a kid asking "obvious" questions, but I really didn't know much about the AC system -- that exterior unit "filter" I described earlier was actually a coil.). Miguel was very thorough with the cleaning. The exterior unit was really dirty and he had heavy duty cleaner fluid and attached the bottle to my lawn hose and washed down the unit. Then, he dried it up with his towel. Miguel did find some potential mildew/mold build up, but this required installing a UV light, which was not covered in this service/inspection call (which is fine). He would prepare a proposal with several options to address that. In conclusion, Urban Mechanical has excellent customer service and does thorough work, so they deserve this 5-star review. read more

After having no air on the very hot days of summer I decided to contact PSE&G since I have the Worryfree program with them. Upon their technician coming out I felt it was best to get a new HVAC system as opposed to doing a Bandaid repair since the one I had was 35 years old. After receiving a quote from them I went on Yelp and contacted two other companies whose quotes were pretty much the same. I then contacted Urban Mechanical via Yelp. Don't work with this contractor. We paid for 3/4 of a large job, Miguel only completed half the project then ghosted us, leaving us with uninstalled and faulty equipment. Details below. We had been working with Miguel for over a year doing constant maintenance on a 20yo furnace. He always seemed really great, quick, responsive, helpful. He even had fixed a number of issues that another HVAC person had created. Because of our initial good experience we decided to have Miguel do two projects for us. One project would be to replace our old unit with a high-efficiency HVAC, and the other would be to install a ductless mini-split multi-zone system with three heads in a separate apartment. Each of the two jobs was meant to take about 4 days of work. Five weeks into the project, he still wasn't finished, kept telling us reasons he was delayed, stopped showing up when he said he would, and then finally stopped responding to emails, texts, calls, and instagram messages altogether. During the process, communication was a constant battle. Talking specific details of his plan of action was always difficult and he would often say, I'm in a rush today, let's chat details on the phone. Then he would install something, disregarding my requests, and then tell me there was nothing he could do. After he finished the mini-split portion, all the heads worked, so I paid a small amount according to our payment schedule. When Miguel came back a couple of days later to test the system again one of the heads was faulty. Before he ghosted me, he told me he replaced the head, but it still doesn't work. And finally, during the process he damaged my hardwood floors in two separate apartments. Once by spilling literally an entire can of purple PVC primer. He was able to remove the purple, but in the process stripped the finish on a massive area. The other, despite taking adequate measures to protect the floors, he made huge gauges in my flooring that I had just had refinished less than two year previous. I reiterate: Don't work with this contractor unless you want to be swindled. read more

So I was having a issue with my heating system and could not figure out the problem on my own, So I went to yelp for help and Urban Mechanical was the best reviews. So Miguel the owner stopped by and took a look at my heater, after hour of investigation, and in-depth searching Miguel could not find anything clogged or anything that was cracked our broken. So he found a simple fix for the time being that would allow my heater to wrk while he investigated further, you would think that most people would charge you a a couple hundred dollars for their time. But not Miguel he could not figure out the internal issue so he told me let me work on this and ill come back up and fix it. So the holidays came and went Christmas and new years but the whole time Miguel was in contact with me updating me on what he found out further. So finally today he came to house to finish what he started. Again he was prompt on the time he was coming he was professional very clean wore his shoe covers so as to not mess around the house. Based on my first experience, this is without a doubt the best HVAC company I have dealt with. I woke up Saturday morning with no heat. I called Miguel and he said he would be here within the hour. 55 minutes later he was in my building. He diagnosed the problem, gave me an estimate, and fixed the problem in a timely manner. Now here's the best part. The next day (Sunday), he calls back in the morning and wants to make sure I still have heat. No one does that anymore. Needless to say I am a customer for life. Miguel @ UM came late on a Friday evening to diagnose and repair our furnace. Without our gas furnace our house temperature was headed colder by the minute, ultimately going down to 60 in North Bronx. We initially communicated via Yelp app, then messaging by mobile number and finally by phone. He was ready to work within the time frame we needed and set to work immediately diagnosing our circulation pump after testing the electronics and burner parts. He had a replacement motor parts on hand in his work van-though not the proper specification for our four floor house. Nevertheless, he had the heat back on that night.
