The aggression and lack of respect for customers by the "owner" is ASTOUNDING, especially for a family company that's existed for so long. Following my terrible experience and that of my neighbors, I doubt it will last much longer. Called for a leaking carbon monoxide (CO) issue with an existing steam boiler that was promptly addressed by the company. However, after their visit, the CO continued to be emitted from the boiler through CO detectors, prompting the fire department and PSE&G to intervene, who also detected high readings. Today, I called to inform them that CO detection was still ongoing. The owner, an angry, short-tempered know-it-all, cut me off and yelled, "NO, THERE IS NOT, THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS MY ENTIRE LIFE. WE FIXED THE PROBLEM. PAY THE INVOICE AND WE WON'T HAVE ANY ISSUES." I firmly told him that his attitude was unacceptable and that I would not pay until the issue was resolved. He laughed manically and said, "THANKS FOR SAYING THAT YOU WON'T PAY, BUDDY. THIS CALL IS RECORDED" before hanging up. I called back and calmly reiterated that I will not pay without resolution and that following his anger and yelling, I wasn't sure I trust them to touch the boiler again. The owner laughed again, said "GREAT, WE DON'T WANT YOUR BUSINESS", claimed that I didn't have to pay the invoice, and hung up again, likely because he realized he was in the wrong. It's unfortunate that the company's initial kindness turned sour when there was any potential for accountability or conflicts with their labor. I will recommend this company only to people I hate. Excellent plumbers - skilled, courteous and clean up after themselves. The company always answers the phone and responds quickly when the situation is urgent. Have had them service boilers, fix broken frozen outdoor pipes, open clogged toilets (accidentally flushed hard item stuck) and bathroom drains, replace broken dishwasher. I want to echo what others have stated. Mr. Heyrich is rude and has horrible customer service skills. Although he argued that I was not charged twice for a service, I absolutely was but having dealt with his temperament in the past I decided not to argue with him and just paid him another $204 for the toilet to be unclogged again when it hadn't been unclogged during the first visit. I WILL NEVER USE THEIR SERVICES AGAIN. I will also make sure to warn my friends and community members as well on all social media outlets and review boards. My husband just got off the phone regarding an old toilet in our home. My husband asked if he could come to look at the problem but just to come is $120. I heard the conversation on speaker and the person on the other end was very impatient and told my husband that he was giving him a headache. The call was disconnected so my husband called back and the person was accusing my husband of hanging up and to call another plumber. I cannot believe that is how you speak to a would be customer. After initially hearing positive things about Heyrich, I found the company, sadly, unprofessional, uncaring, and lazy in its analysis of a leak from my shower that they were unable to fix. Notably, when the leak persisted, they had a 'pass the buck' attitude, blaming the tiling person (whom they recommended) for their inability to fix the leak or agree on its cause. When I merely passed along insights from the tiling person, they got upset (i.e. yelled) at me, and thus, I found Heyrich patronizing, unprofessional, and rude. read more

I am so thankful for these guys! I originally called them to get help with an original bathtub and plumbing in my house that's almost 100 years old that was leaking hot water. Somehow (when it rains it pours, huh?), our hot water heater went the day before they were supposed to come! They not only installed a new hot water heater for a good price, but also fixed our bathtub and 2 toilets. I received an estimate from another company that was ready to replace both toilets and told us our only option was to get rid of our bathtub and get a new one. Heyrich just installed a new gas hot water heater and did an amazing job at a great price. The old unit was removed and the new one installed in less than 90 minutes. The team also made sure that I had the safety features installed (for our second floor water heater) to ensure that we would have no issues if the city water pressure dropped or we turn off the master water line to the house. They also fixed -- at no additional charge -- the gas heating unit that PSEG had recently installed to bring the exhaust vent for that unit up to code! I would never recommend them. Their technician looked at my leaky sink drain and we discussed how long it might take to obtain a needed part. I waited a couple of weeks for them to get back to me (during which time I was considerably inconvenienced by this sink not being usable), finally called and talked to the elder Heyrich. They had never even ordered the part, and he declined the job because my home was "too dirty". My housekeeping is not going to win any awards, but (1) the bathroom involved had been mopped the day before, and (2) aren't plumbers supposed to be comfortable working even in environments involving overflowing sewage (which mine was not)? If you want a plumber that gives gratuitous assessments of your housekeeping skills, these are your guys. If you want one that does actual plumbing work, look elsewhere. read more

Old house but new to us. First week in and our pilot light wouldn't stay lit and our son overflowed the bathtub due to the stopper not being sealed. Called Heyrich both times and Scotty came within the hour. He was super nice to my kids who were interested in everything he was doing and he explained lots of things we needed to know about the plumbing of our home. Needless to say we needed a new water heater a few days after they provided a fix. When I called again, the person who answered heard that I had kids in the background and made sure I got a water heater installed that day. We recently bought a century old colonial in Montclair and it came equipped with a steam heating system that previous owners have let slide into utter disarray through carelessness and neglect. Spurred into action by sky high gas bills and armed with Dan Holohan's excellent "Art of Steam" book I've been slowly restoring it to good operating condition. However, there are certain types of repairs that should only be done by a professional. One such item is a steam radiator valve that after 10+ years usually becomes de-factor welded to the pipes. You can theoretically watch enough youtube videos to attempt replacement yourself but the price of failure is snapping the main pipe which would require opening the floorboard in the room which is not fun, not to mention expensive. John's team arrived promptly and finished the task expediently. The price was fair. As such I'd not hesitate calling him in the future. read more

These guys helped a friend of mine solve a difficult problem, so I expected good things and wanted to like them. Unfortunately, I simply cannot recommend them for anything at all. I had some simple repairs around the house (replace some valves, install a few things) which they sent someone to estimate. They did the work and everything went smoothly, though they forgot some parts and had to go back to fetch them. They also noticed I had an unsafe boiler configuration which needed to be repaired, but since it was unrelated to the work they were doing we agreed to schedule that separately. Then I received the bill, which was 3 times the estimate. I called to complain and they said it was just a sight unseen estimate (which is untrue, they had seen before estimating) and were very rude about the whole thing. I paid it in full and vowed to myself never to use them again. Later there was an issue with the work they did, and that's when the real rudeness came out -- they refused to fix their own work until I also signed up for the additional work they said I needed (which I had 3 independent plumbers look at and not one of them agreed that I needed this work done -- and furthermore they said some of the other work already done was shoddy). Finally when I refused to do the additional work, they simply hung up on me, and refused to stand by their own work that they already performed. So in summary: rude, incompetent, and dishonest. That's an easy 1-star rating in my book. For a better experience, I highly recommend Weltman Home Services -- on 3 separate occasions they've been consistently fantastic. read more

Rob came out to our house in late August to look at a leaking pipe. He gave a quote for repairing it and suggested that we could wait until October and then he could come and do the pipe and service our boiler at the same time. He even generously offered to do the boiler for free while he was there. So I waited and called back today (October). The person who answered the phone was appallingly rude. He basically yelled: "we can't do your pipes we are too busy!!" then put me on hold. Then when he got back on the phone he said, "so you want us to come service your boiler or what??!" I explained calmly that we needed the pipes repaired and he said "well we won't do that" and hung up on me. I understand if he is busy but that is NO WAY to speak to anyone - especially someone new to the town who is calling for the first time. I was completely taken aback by how rude he was - a complete contrast to the experience when Rob came to our house. My hope is that someone there reads this and gets back to me because I have heard so many good things about them and I can't believe they would let anyone speak to clients this way. read more

I was there while they worked. They were upbeat and did a really great job. They tightened my water level sight and put in cleaning solution in my water boiler for free because it was needed.
