Called JH to fix a running faucet and adjust a kitchen faucet which was loose. They scheduled a visit for the next day, came on time and were done in an hour including a trip to the hardware store. Pretty much as good as it gets. read more

Excellent plumbers - skilled, courteous and clean up after themselves. The company always answers the phone and responds quickly when the situation is urgent. Have had them service boilers, fix broken frozen outdoor pipes, open clogged toilets (accidentally flushed hard item stuck) and bathroom drains, replace broken dishwasher. Pricing not inexpensive but fair for the area and quality of service. read more

The aggression and lack of respect for customers by the "owner" is ASTOUNDING, especially for a family company that's existed for so long. Following my terrible experience and that of my neighbors, I doubt it will last much longer. Called for a leaking carbon monoxide (CO) issue with an existing steam boiler that was promptly addressed by the company. However, after their visit, the CO continued to be emitted from the boiler through CO detectors, prompting the fire department and PSE&G to intervene, who also detected high readings. Today, I called to inform them that CO detection was still ongoing. The owner, an angry, short-tempered know-it-all, cut me off and yelled, "NO, THERE IS NOT, THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS MY ENTIRE LIFE. WE FIXED THE PROBLEM. PAY THE INVOICE AND WE WON'T HAVE ANY ISSUES." I firmly told him that his attitude was unacceptable and that I would not pay until the issue was resolved. He laughed manically and said, "THANKS FOR SAYING THAT YOU WON'T PAY, BUDDY. THIS CALL IS RECORDED" before hanging up. I called back and calmly reiterated that I will not pay without resolution and that following his anger and yelling, I wasn't sure I trust them to touch the boiler again. The owner laughed again, said "GREAT, WE DON'T WANT YOUR BUSINESS", claimed that I didn't have to pay the invoice, and hung up again, likely because he realized he was in the wrong. It's unfortunate that the company's initial kindness turned sour when there was any potential for accountability or conflicts with their labor. I will recommend this company only to people I hate. If I could give zero stars, I would. read more

I want to echo what others have stated. Mr. Heyrich is rude and has horrible customer service skills. Although he argued that I was not charged twice for a service, I absolutely was but having dealt with his temperament in the past I decided not to argue with him and just paid him another $204 for the toilet to be unclogged again when it hadn't been unclogged during the first visit. I WILL NEVER USE THEIR SERVICES AGAIN. I will also make sure to warn my friends and community members as well on all social media outlets and review boards. I really don't know how they are in business after 114 years?! Scammers. read more

Reliable and efficient, our heating and cooling go-to for years. They're the experts.

The best! Responsive and good work. They have my complete trust. They put in my furnace and hot water heater. read more

Although he was too booked to accommodate my need. Establishment was honest and referred another establishment.

I have counted on this company for over 20 years and just within the last year I had to call them for an emergency and the person who I spoke to was shockingly, nasty and rude. I will never use this company again or recommend this company to anyone. I have never been treated with such disrespect as a long time customer. Terrible! read more

My husband just got off the phone regarding an old toilet in our home. My husband asked if he could come to look at the problem but just to come is $120. I heard the conversation on speaker and the person on the other end was very impatient and told my husband that he was giving him a headache. The call was disconnected so my husband called back and the person was accusing my husband of hanging up and to call another plumber. I cannot believe that is how you speak to a would be customer. I do not know who he thinks he is speaking to someone like that. People like that deserve to go out of business. I guess he does not need anymore business. read more

Really responsive, quick and helpful. I am a new homeowner and really don't know anything about boilers - two plumbers came over same day and fixed the pilot light, replaced a part and taught me how to do my own maintenance. Highly recommend and will definitely be using John Heyrich again! read more

They did work for me a few years ago!! Great service and great eye for detail. I called to have work don at my home during the pandemic. Their booked until September. I'm waiting patiently because they will get the job done right. read more

We have been a customer for years. They continue to be very responsive and helpful. They provided some free advice over the phone and when that didn't solve the problem they fit us in the very next day. The plumber who came was friendly, knowledgeable and was able to solve our problem. Will not hesitate to contact them again for future plumbing issues. read more

After initially hearing positive things about Heyrich, I found the company, sadly, unprofessional, uncaring, and lazy in its analysis of a leak from my shower that they were unable to fix. Notably, when the leak persisted, they had a 'pass the buck' attitude, blaming the tiling person (whom they recommended) for their inability to fix the leak or agree on its cause. When I merely passed along insights from the tiling person, they got upset (i.e. yelled) at me, and thus, I found Heyrich patronizing, unprofessional, and rude. read more

It's always satisfying when after much due diligence you make the correct decision. These folks are a local family owned business who have been in business for a very long time, primarily because they do quality work at reasonable prices. I will absolutely be calling Heyrich the next time I need a plumber. read more

I am so thankful for these guys! I originally called them to get help with an original bathtub and plumbing in my house that's almost 100 years old that was leaking hot water. Somehow (when it rains it pours, huh?), our hot water heater went the day before they were supposed to come! They not only installed a new hot water heater for a good price, but also fixed our bathtub and 2 toilets. I received an estimate from another company that was ready to replace both toilets and told us our only option was to get rid of our bathtub and get a new one. As we have an old house that seems to always have one issue or another, we fully intend to use them again for all of our plumbing needs! Thanks so much!! read more

Quality work, done quickly at a fair price by friendly people who know their stuff and clearly want it done right. What more need I say? read more

Heyrich just installed a new gas hot water heater and did an amazing job at a great price. The old unit was removed and the new one installed in less than 90 minutes. The team also made sure that I had the safety features installed (for our second floor water heater) to ensure that we would have no issues if the city water pressure dropped or we turn off the master water line to the house. They also fixed -- at no additional charge -- the gas heating unit that PSEG had recently installed to bring the exhaust vent for that unit up to code! That is simply outstanding customer service... read more

You can and should find better. Quality of work and time to complete: Great. Attitude/Customer Treatment & Cost: Don't expect a company who values their customer. They did a good job of completing the work in a timely manner. However, the person on the phone was extremely rude. You are just another customer and they do not give a damn about your time or respect. They are also definitely at the top of the cost spectrum. I don't mind paying for quality but not when it's way over the normal premium. read more

I would never recommend them. Their technician looked at my leaky sink drain and we discussed how long it might take to obtain a needed part. I waited a couple of weeks for them to get back to me (during which time I was considerably inconvenienced by this sink not being usable), finally called and talked to the elder Heyrich. They had never even ordered the part, and he declined the job because my home was "too dirty". My housekeeping is not going to win any awards, but (1) the bathroom involved had been mopped the day before, and (2) aren't plumbers supposed to be comfortable working even in environments involving overflowing sewage (which mine was not)? If you want a plumber that gives gratuitous assessments of your housekeeping skills, these are your guys. If you want one that does actual plumbing work, look elsewhere. read more

Old house but new to us. First week in and our pilot light wouldn't stay lit and our son overflowed the bathtub due to the stopper not being sealed. Called Heyrich both times and Scotty came within the hour. He was super nice to my kids who were interested in everything he was doing and he explained lots of things we needed to know about the plumbing of our home. Needless to say we needed a new water heater a few days after they provided a fix. When I called again, the person who answered heard that I had kids in the background and made sure I got a water heater installed that day. I highly recommend them as I had a ton of questions and was never up sold on anything. The bonus is that when I got the bill I was still able to smile as it was exactly as discussed. read more

This is the second time I've asked them to come to my house to fix another plumbing issue and as usual, they were awesome. "Michael" came over with a mask. He was very courteous and professional. Great local shop. Timely and professional. Extremely please with their services over the years.

I called this company, made an appointment and waited for 2 days and no one ever showed up or called. Additionally, I was treated horribly and told to take my business elsewhere when I told Rob they never called or showed...you know what I will take my money and give it to a plumber who respects his customers and not have his head up his rectum.. Thank you!!! read more

We recently bought a century old colonial in Montclair and it came equipped with a steam heating system that previous owners have let slide into utter disarray through carelessness and neglect. Spurred into action by sky high gas bills and armed with Dan Holohan's excellent "Art of Steam" book I've been slowly restoring it to good operating condition. However, there are certain types of repairs that should only be done by a professional. One such item is a steam radiator valve that after 10+ years usually becomes de-factor welded to the pipes. You can theoretically watch enough youtube videos to attempt replacement yourself but the price of failure is snapping the main pipe which would require opening the floorboard in the room which is not fun, not to mention expensive. John's team arrived promptly and finished the task expediently. The price was fair. As such I'd not hesitate calling him in the future. read more

These guys helped a friend of mine solve a difficult problem, so I expected good things and wanted to like them. Unfortunately, I simply cannot recommend them for anything at all. I had some simple repairs around the house (replace some valves, install a few things) which they sent someone to estimate. They did the work and everything went smoothly, though they forgot some parts and had to go back to fetch them. They also noticed I had an unsafe boiler configuration which needed to be repaired, but since it was unrelated to the work they were doing we agreed to schedule that separately. Then I received the bill, which was 3 times the estimate. I called to complain and they said it was just a sight unseen estimate (which is untrue, they had seen before estimating) and were very rude about the whole thing. I paid it in full and vowed to myself never to use them again. Later there was an issue with the work they did, and that's when the real rudeness came out -- they refused to fix their own work until I also signed up for the additional work they said I needed (which I had 3 independent plumbers look at and not one of them agreed that I needed this work done -- and furthermore they said some of the other work already done was shoddy). Finally when I refused to do the additional work, they simply hung up on me, and refused to stand by their own work that they already performed. So in summary: rude, incompetent, and dishonest. That's an easy 1-star rating in my book. For a better experience, I highly recommend Weltman Home Services -- on 3 separate occasions they've been consistently fantastic. read more

A neighbor gave my fiance and I a glowing recommendation for Heyrich Plumbing & Heating when we moved to Montclair. Since then they have handled every single plumbing and heating issue we'd had with our home, and both of our rental properties. My fiance and I have since moved away from Montclair for his job, but we still own our 2 multi -family rental homes there and Heyrich is the ONLY plumbing company we use. They are always timely, professional, and most importantly they do amazing work that withstands the test of time... and if there is EVER an issue, they'll come and fix it. I cannot recommend them enough! read more

10 stars. 100 stars. I can't recommend this company enough. I moved into my new house in July and went to turn on our boiler for the first time a few days ago only to find the sight glass totally full and a clogged drain spout. I called John Heyrich and explained the situation, and they sent one of the friendliest and most knowledgable service pros I've ever interacted with. He unclogged everything, explained how I could maintain the sight glass in the future and gave me other tips on keeping the boiler running properly. read more

They do a great job of handling small and large projects. Responsive and reliable. Highly recommend.

Needed to install a natural gas extension for a new stove. Came out within the day to give us an estimate, complete the work, and remove the old stove from kitchen for pick-up. Rob came out to our house in late August to look at a leaking pipe. He gave a quote for repairing it and suggested that we could wait until October and then he could come and do the pipe and service our boiler at the same time. He even generously offered to do the boiler for free while he was there. So I waited and called back today (October). The person who answered the phone was appallingly rude. He basically yelled: "we can't do your pipes we are too busy!!" then put me on hold. Then when he got back on the phone he said, "so you want us to come service your boiler or what??!" I explained calmly that we needed the pipes repaired and he said "well we won't do that" and hung up on me. I understand if he is busy but that is NO WAY to speak to anyone - especially someone new to the town who is calling for the first time. I was completely taken aback by how rude he was - a complete contrast to the experience when Rob came to our house. My hope is that someone there reads this and gets back to me because I have heard so many good things about them and I can't believe they would let anyone speak to clients this way. read more

This was the first time that I called Heyrich Plumbing and Heating. Got reasonable price for the boiler return piping deteriorating and a valve replaced on one of the specialty radiators I have. I was there while they worked. They were upbeat and did a really great job. They tightened my water level sight and put in cleaning solution in my water boiler for free because it was needed. I would definitely use them again. read more

My family has used the plumbing services of this local business for several years. They have always done a good job and the prices seem fair. Excellent family-run plumbing service. Responsive, professional and reasonably priced. Couldn't recommend them more highly.

This family run (Father & sons) business is just the sort of congenial Plumber one would hope to find in town. They have been in business for four generations without advertising or growing into a mega corporation. They are accommodating, reliable, efficient and skilled. I am fully satisfied with the professional work they did in my home, and I will continue to use them for years to come, and I recommend them to one and all in the Clair. read more
