Monstros Pizza is a local pizzeria across the street from CSU Chico with amazingly fresh and authentic pizza. The hours are hit and miss but when you see their sign/arrow on in the front lawn make sure to give them a try! I personally prefer to call ahead because they take awhile but who can argue with quality. They offer multiple sizes for every occasion depending on your mood/group. We've just moved to Chico and are, luckily, just a couple blocks from Monstro's! We finally took the plunge and got a pie tonight and, let me tell you, this pizza is excellent. Great pizza and great service! We got the last dough of the night which they turned into the perfect pizza around 10:30. Great place for late night eats. They told us they're renovating and about to open a service window to walk up and order outside which is awesome! Wish I took a picture of the pie when it was hot out of the oven but it smelled so good we couldn't wait and then it was almost gone lol. We decided to give a few slices to a man nearby who happened to be homeless. The man working (possibly the owner, we forgot to ask) actually was nice enough to give him some bread and sauces while we were waiting for our pizza. We just wanted to add onto that and give a little more(it was a huge pizza for a great price). We asked for a plate and when he saw we were giving some to the man, he wanted to give us some frostie sodas which were super yummy and we hadn't had in years! The most underrated pizza in town. The owner of this establishment is a true artisan. Don't let the punk rock facade and the cheap price fool you into thinking the pizza is anything but magnificent, the owner often sources local ingredients and has occasionally mentioned that my toppings were picked up at the farmers market that day. THE IMPORTANT STUFF. The dough: Crunchy thin cornmeal dusted bottom, with a light and airy sourdough top. Never too much dough like some cheap pizza places. My temples never hurt from chewing too much. The sauce: Not too sweet, fresh tasting, garlic, possibly wine. I'm pretty sure its made from scratch and it is unlike any of the other sauces in town. The toppings: The usual, although i will add that the mozzarella is the best ive had on a pizza at this price point. Beverages: Pabst, and a rotating selection of Sierra Nevada. Also RC cola! Personal favorites: I most often go for sausage and bell peppers with extra cheese, although the peperoni is also delicious. other highlights include: Lasagna, garlic bread, and the famous Breath of Death, featuring peperoni, garlic and jalapeños. Ambience: the lobby is appointed with rustic wooden tables, benches, and booths. A selection of board games. A collection of vintage pinball machines. A beautiful vintage cash register, vintage dough mixers. A black and white TV playing a random selection of classics, sometimes simpsons episodes and other randomness taped from the 80s and 90's featuring period commercials. A stunning collection of pizza boxes from as far away as iraq. There are often metal and punk shows on friday and saturday, so call ahead if you were looking for some kind of intimate weekend dining experience. A M A Z I N G P I Z Z A ! I am not kidding - I have tried a lot of pizza places since I moved to Chico and this is the best pizza in town. Hands down. The ambiance is very quirky with old video games that don't work, a tiny B&W TV that is really loud and a cement floor with saw dust on it. We waited for a long time to get our pizza too, but it was worth the wait! Really -- I'd wait way longer for these amazing pies! Their hours and days that they are open are strange, but I am going to make a concerted effort to figure it out so I can come here more often. The owner is a really nice guy and buys his sausage from Chicago! Sauce and dough are from scratch. Love that! Anyway, if you haven't already, try this little hidden gem out! Ok. So. I work long long days. 12hr shifts. I came home. Took a shower. Remembering I need to eat dinner and what sounds better than pizza right?! I remembered this spot is only opened on sat and tues after 6. I get here and realized cash only. Dang! Bummer. So I'm guessing the owner hears my rant and totally understood where I was coming from and offers to make me my order. Anything I wanted he said. I just wanted a simple 12" pie. Monstros Pizza took me home to my go-to pizza spot. The base has a nice doughiness to it while still giving you the crunch and crispiness of a thin-crust 'za (best of both worlds). The ingredients atop are traditional and straightforward but are customizable. The flavors of the toppings, dough and the sauce blend together like the northern lights in April--quite literally tasting as good as it looks. I made a customizable supreme/combination pizza. They have a red, white, and pesto sauce to choose from for your pizza, the red and white are delicious, I haven't tried the pesto yet. The owner is a cool guy. This is a weird business. During hours when it was supposed to be open, we pulled up in the parking lot and saw the owner clearly through the window, but the shop was closed. Earlier, our nephew had gone in and the guy told him it was closed because he had to "go back to the lab," whatever that means. I gave up and won't be going again. read more

BEST.PIZZA.EVER. I have yet to find anywhere comparable to Monstros in quality and price anywhere in Southern California. Another place that I always try to hit up when I go back to visit. The owner still recognizes our phone number when we call. The owner is always friendly, fast and makes a great pie. The place itself expanded from a little hole in the wall to an actual venue. It's hard for me to review Pizza because I love all pizza. I like bad pizza almost as much as good. And I love many different kinds of pizza. Monstros is a real pizza shop, not one of those gormet california pizza places. It's got saw dust on the floor and a couple of pinball machines against one wall. In the corner is a black and white TV with the Simpsons blaring. It's a unique and interesting place. The Pizza is good and it's filling and it's not pricy. Usually you can buy just a slice if you want. Check it out. But don't expect anything fancy, and you might have to wait a while if they are busy. Monstros is closed Sunday and Monday and opens the rest of the week around five. read more

Legendary. You can't beat the value or the taste. I eat everything they have to offer and have no complaints. My favorite is the spaghetti, which is a heaping box full along side a half-loaf of garlic bread for $5. I like to order ahead and get a couple of games of pinball in while I wait for my food. I went to college at Chico state and monstros is what I miss most about that town! Great pizza, great owner/manager/pizza chef!! You don't need cash to get a pizza here, he used to allow starving college students to work folding pizza boxes in exchange for a meal. while this is the only pizza place i eat at in Chico I'm gonna have to give them 3 stars. Monstros for sure has best pizza in Chico and the fact that its cheap makes it just that much better. For $3.50 you can get a slice that's equivalent to a third of a large pizza. Its almost too big. My favorite is THE BREATH OF DEATH. Also their garlic bread is to die for, literally. I really like the atmosphere with old pizza boxes on the wall, sawdust all over the floor, and the big wooden community tables. But they take forever, i mean there are time where ill be waiting for close to an hour and even when i call-in ahead of time i still end up having to wait awhile.
