I've been shopping (online) at Monster's in Motion for several years now. I have to say that I really appreciate how they work hard to help out their customers AND offer some of the best and hard-to-find items! The thing to remember about this type of store and the merchandise they carry is that, while they keep as much as they can in stock, much of what they offer is in the process of being created and/or only available for preorder, which they note in the description. Many of the items are developed and manufactured by individual artist creators. For me, that makes it even more special. The other thing I love about this store, is that they will work hard to accommodate special requests if they can. I recently ordered two books for our grandson's graduation a bit later than I should have. I asked if they could possibly make sure they arrived in time for his celebration. Low and behold, they did. And on the enclosed receipt, they had specifically marked and circled "Rush." I thanked them, and received a personal reply from the owner acknowledging that. Now, this doesn't mean that they can handle very request, but in my experience, they certainly will give it a go. read more

I ordered a small "Jaws" sign on July 3 and was told it would ship in 3-5 days. Today is July 27, and while the money was taken from my account on July 3, there is no evidence I will ever see the sign anytime soon. Let me just say that I have been a huge fan of Monsters in Motion for the longest time, so I don't understand why it took me so long to write Yelp review about this marvelous place. First of all, you must be forewarned, Because going here is like the biggest time suck you will ever experience in your life. You may as well pack a lunch, because you will be spending multiple hours in this establishment. And you will not regret a single second of it. There are so many cool things to see, and things to buy. That you will want to go home and start a major rebuild of your house to accommodate all of the things that you are going to purchase from Monsters in Motion. I am absolutely not kidding when I say they have everything you could possibly want. Are you looking for a replica of Freddy's glove from Nightmare on Elm Street? Yeah, they've got that. Are you looking for the vinyl soundtrack for War of the Gargantuans? Yeah, they got that too. Are you looking for a place that you will eventually need to direct deposit your paycheck to? Yeah, this is definitely that place. I could go on and on about all of the cool stuff that they have there. But you really need to go see it for yourself. if you don't feel like venturing out into the real world, they have a very comprehensive website that does not disappoint. The only negative thing I can say about this place is that they are not open 7 days a week. But then again, I guess they have to have some time to go out again hunt down all of the cool stuff that they have inside their building. The bottom line? I ordered a bunch of stuff from their website as it is really well thought out and they offered many of the accessories I wanted for a Scifi model I wanted to build. Unfortunately they bill you for the total order while much of my stuff was placed on back order. It appears they do not have much inventory and scramble to get the items from other vendors while you float a loan to them. I would much prefer they bill when the item(s) are shipped! I wound up calling them twice after a couple of weeks went by and received emails showing most of my order was back ordered. They messed up as my last package showed zero balance on the enclosed invoice when I knew they had not shipped the last item I was waiting for. I called them and they appeared to be aware of their error and quickly dispatched the last item in the mail priority post. I would probably not order from them again and would warn others to learn from my experience. read more

Dealing with Terrance Love was a nightmare! Just because I asked about how the item would be shipped, and if there was a chance for damage? I wanted to buy this item for my daughter, and he made me go in circles and he wanted me to kiss his butt! Plus, if it arrives broken, just read their policies. Plus, the website states to ask before you purchase. But, heaven forbid, if you dare question anything! In the end, he canceled my order because I asked that the item be delivered to the apartment door, and to please knock, and not to leave it outside. With tracking there would be no problem in knowing when it would be delivered. With over 100 apartments there, would anyone in their right mind want it dropped outside of their door and left there? Ordered a candle holder that was not listed as pre order. Upon logging in, saw that my order was listed as such and inquired as to why the item was not listed as such when I purchased- nor would I have had during current supply chain issues. Was accused by a Mr. T Love of knowing it was and trying to exploit them. Upon receiving said candle holder (eventually) it was nothing like the photo. What I purchased was a single finish and this thing looked like a cheap child's toy, with gaudy multicolored painting- the original item was monotone stone finish- and paid twice as much for what I could've bought it for at most any other vendor. I emailed them again alerting them to the difference, noting they may want to update their catalog photo. Was again accused of hijinks by Mr. Love, who hides behind his website policy that they aren't responsible for sending you an entirely different item. Really he just ordered some junk off Amazon that cost half the price of what I paid and sent it. Either he has a vision problem or is just a psychopath. Whatever! Enjoy your forty bucks, guy. You sure earned it You can't even review the items on their website- "all reviews are subject to approval." Says it all. They can't even handle honest feedback. Monsters in motions is the number one place to get those special model kits that no one else has . I recently dealt with them for 5 monster kits. 4 of which were shipped right away 1 had to wait a few weeks for a custom kit. Be assured they are in business to help you , they do things differently , as not all items. are in stock at time of order , but will be shipped when available from their suppliers. Best thing to do is call ahead for availability of the item you are interested in speak to Cathrine and be nice . I have been dealing off and on with this guy since the 90's. He's always been kind of rude. I haven't bought anything from him in years. So I saw a model on his website and decided to order it. It had a pickup option for shipping so I clicked it. Paid for it then called to see if it was ok to swing by. He said rudely "That's not the way it works." So I asked "Well, how does it work?" He said I have to make an appointment but he's not even sure he has it in stock. Nope. He says it will be here in September. Fine says I. So September rolls around and I get a call. Its in stock you want to come get it? "Sure" says I. Ill swing by Tuesday. So I call. No answer but a swell 20 minute recording comes on. Eventually it says theyre open until 4. So I drive out there and find the place. Looks closed up. I check the door. It's open. I walk in. I see someone in the office and say "Hello". He walks out and rudely says, "You have to wait outside!" OK. At this point I figure you know what? I have to much self esteem to be ran around and takked to rudely. So I just left. I will never buy another item from here if he offered me his entire inventory for $1. I will quit the hobby first. If you have any self respect, stear clear. Update. This is really the truth and it sucks that I have to write this but it's all true. If you order from this place they consider how many times you place an order with them with their priorities. In other words if you only have placed an order a few times they will treat you like such. I will not go into details here but lets just say they did not fulfill my order. They did not try to fix the problem either. All I got in return was "We have over 2000, (2 thousand) customers and we cannot get back to them all if something goes wrong. You do not have to bother with this place. If they mistreat you they will do nothing about it. Your money to them means nothing at all, you will be treated as they want to treat you. I have been a prior customer of Monsters in Motion and even subscribe to their product newsletter. I purchased a few items this year for the Christmas gift giving season. My biggest item never arrived (no explanation to why) and the smaller items arrived 3 days after Christmas. I wrote the customer service and the agent was conveniently out the first day, I called and the two days later an agent replied to my email with a RUDE, OBNOXIOUS reply. The company makes sure they cover their own agenda/assets by some BS excuse about ordering specific items and their shipping speed. If you want to purchase items for someone as a gift... do not use Monsters in Motion. They are a rip off company that ROBS your money and provides service that is POOR and inexcusable, DISGUSTING HORRIBLE PEOPLE..... read more

I've ordered pre-orders multiple times and never received any items. The first time I preordered a NECA Planet of the Apes Lawgiver. The arrival date was continuously pushed back for nearly a year of the original date. Meanwhile I saw the item on eBay a number of times. Finally after contacting Monsters in Motion, they said they never got it in and refunded me. I had to buy it more expensively on the secondary market. I preordered another item about a year or so later and it was canceled by Monsters in Motion. In May, I pre-ordered a couple of items and again, the arrival date is starting to be pushed back from August, to September, and now it says October. And again, I see the items available now on eBay. So I'm 0 for 3 in pre-orders over the last several years. I'm not sure they actually deliver anything. read more

Unlike the one other review this spot has, I did manage to get in here on a Saturday. I even called to make sure they were, indeed, open. And someone answered. If you're driving from far away, this should probably be common sense. The store has a bottom level which houses some display pieces in a few cases. There is some really cool stuff in here - like a killer set of Godzilla busts featuring many of the his different suits - but they're going to be cost-prohibitive for most casual shoppers. Upstairs houses the goods, of which there aren't many. There are a few short aisles of various action figures and model kits, some books & collector's magazines, a number of big ticket items that could woo serious collector's. But it's all so packed in and limited that most people who go out of their way to drive over here will likely leave disappointed. Nothing is any cheaper than it is online, so there isn't a great deal of incentive to make the drive. I made a few decent finds, but you're not likely to find much that isn't readily available in other similar stores. read more

Let me start by saying I don't like talking bad about people or company's everyone's experience can be different but in this case I've seen others complain of the same treatment. So I ordered a couple items from these guys MIM last July it's going on now almost 1 year since I placed the order and still have not received anything not even an update on my order. they said the items were on back order and would ship in 3-6 months that still hasn't happened they took 140.00 down from me on 2 items and I have not heard anything from them since. I called them a couple times end of last year at that time they said the items would ship in the next month or so I still have not heard from them and I've got nothing. When I called them again after another 2 months they told me I could try to call someone else from the company to see if I could get my money back, I had no luck reaching this person I think they make their self unavailable and got nothing to this day no refund no items and no contact from the company. I'm almost convinced this is a scam of some kind where they lock you into buying something that they say is on back order they get your money and it's on you to keep inquiring about your order or try to get your money back or except you got dooped and give up on it, now I've never wrote a bad review on anyone and ultimately would just like the items I ordered and to move on and it's shame i would have been a good customer I see items all the time in there emails that I still get almost daily that I would love to have, I think thats part of how they attract you they offer items hard to find at cheap prices because collectors will be more willing to buy them. I believe that I will never receive the items or a refund of the money they don't care to reach out or update info once they get your money they are done with you at least this was my experience with them lesson learned and buyers beware. I attempted to order two items online and a month after being billed for one item, I was finally able to get it shipped. Five more attempts to contact them about the second item went without a response. This company will not respond to email, answer their phone or return a call. Ordered a model kit from them online. Waited two weeks before contacting them to see what the deal was? They said it had to be molded (wait what? Why not mention this on the site) and it would take no longer than 12 days.(Two weeks after ordering mind you) After a month of waiting I contacted them again. They said I would receive the item on the 12th of August. I waited until the 20th of August and contacted them again, asking to either send my item within a week, or cancel my order. They cancelled my order and to throw salt on the wound told me I was pressuring their mold maker so he decided not to make it because quote "because it's not like he is going to be hitting Fort Knox making this." End quote. Terrible condescending customer service. Unable to fulfill order. Horrendous communication. Straight out lies on delivery date and item availability. Zero stars. After perusing their online website, I decided to go there in person since I was going to be in the area. The store front is a little difficult to find. It's the building facing the street so be sure to look in that area. They do have a sign out front with their name and an arrow pointing to the store and that does help. The store itself is like a treasure trove of the coolest items. Lots of models and figurines on display like Godzilla, aliens from different movies, Trekkie stuff, etc. I was there for a hard to find CD and Terrance helped me. Took me upstairs to even more cool stuff and helped me find the CD I was looking for. Also found a Ned Stark figurine from Game of Thrones and had to have that! John helped me check out and I was happily on my way. The service was great and I love the store. Will have to bring my spouse back to check it out! I thought the prices were reasonable and the selection was very good. The CD I got is one that I could not find anywhere else except on Ebay and from Germany no less at twice the price excluding shipping. It really made my day as I drove back to San Diego listening to my new CD. I did see the previous bad reviews but did not have any of those problems. I was at the store on a Wednesday at around 2pm and they were open and well staffed. Staff was friendly and answered all my questions. If you want something in particular, they will look it up for you. Based on my experience, would highly recommend them! Side note-Kids would love this store, so much to see but be careful they don't touch or break any of the high expense items on display. read more

purchased a dark knight cowl from Monsters in Motion, which was advertised on their site as "glass smooth and flawless". When it arrived I found it to be anything but flawless, and glass smooth. This cowl is made by "the Bronze Armory", and when I contacted them about it the guy there told me my "expectations were too high" because it was a cast of a prop, which every one knows are not really that high quality. Well, MIM SET my expectations with their advertisement. I sent the cowl back to MIM and the person accepting it agreed that the cowl has problems, yet could not replace it because that's the only one she had left. So, I'm left to wonder... they're selling a 280.00 rubber cast from a mold, and they can't give the customer what they're advertising? in the end, they are refunding me. They are difficult to contact by any means aside form email. I left numerous voice mails, with several contact numbers, and never received a call back. Since this is my one and only experience with them, I cannot comment on any other aspect of their business. I would be suspect of purchasing anything which they have any control at all over product quality. Buyer beware. read more

Monsters in Motion has been my husband Stan's go to source for all of his science fiction models , toys and movies for over 15 years. Both of us have had nothing but a terrific experience with all staff and the onsite store. The model builders have made us at least six build up kits and the results are works of art! There is sometimes a waiting period for unique items , Titanosaurus and Gargantuan , for example, to be manufactured and shipped from overseas. Of course one should be patient to get something so unique! We've always been promptly notified as to the item's arrival. There has never been a mistake in our orders or with the billing process. Everything has always arrived in great condition. There is no other shop that can match the range of model kits and science fiction items. It is truly a unique store with so many specialty items that it is incomparable and our favorite place to shop ! read more
