I can't say enough about Monster Mini Golf of Columbia! On Saturday 5/10/14 we had my son's 8th birthday party there and it was the best child's birthday party I've ever thrown or attended. The party hostesses took care of everything. I only had to bring the food & drinks. They served, they supplied the paper goods, they played a game with the kids while they ate and then took them out to play golf, letting the adults play on our own if we wanted to, or sit in the party room if we didn't. Took my two kids there. Upon entering, you will immediately note the appropriate level of darkness within. Near the entrance are some message chairs (extra $), a couple party rooms, and the arcade game area (extra $) where you earn tickets to exchange for low value prizes. The glow golf course in the back. You go to the counter to pay and to collect your glowing golf ball and putter. The price may surprise you: $8.99 for children and $9.99 for adults. That's an expensive hit for many families. Because we arrived shortly after opening on a weekday, there were few people there and my kids were finished in no more than 35 minutes. Fortunately, I had a coupon for "buy one get one free" from a coupon mailer. The employee behind the counter was friendly during the transaction. The 18 holes were well-maintained. Some holes were moderately decorated with glowing and amusingly "scary" images and props. Many holes just minor or minimal decoration. Unusually, the ball paths for all 18 holes were interconnected. While it was clear where hole #1 ended and where hole #2 began, it is possible that a ball hit toward hole #1, let's say, could continue on into the area for hole #2 - the entire course is one continuous path. This did not affect our play as no one was near us, but I could see it happening if it were crowded. As mentioned by someone else, there is not much room (perhaps none) to stand around while waiting for others in front of you. You are either ON the ball path or you're standing on the wall edges for the paths. The course was a typical, simple, mini-golf course. Most holes have you banking off the sides to get the best angle. Other holes have you putting your ball under objects, or trying to get the ball in the hole at the top of a hill. Most could be done with 2 or 3 putts. Hole #18 has a nice clown design, and you attempt to shoot the ball up the clown's tongue. Your ball is not returned and there is no prize for a hole-in-one. We enjoyed the (loud) tuneful music (like "She wore an itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny-yellow-polka-dot bikini"). The kids had fun, and when uncrowded, a good time can be had. Even so, that "good time" can be a relatively "short time," and full price may be too steep for a lot of families. read more

We had my daughter's 7th bday party there this weekend. The kids LOVED it! We had two young women as party hosts - they did a great job setting up and serving the kids. They organized the kids to play games while we were waiting for everyone to come and then played a trivia game w/ my daughter's friends based on all her favorites - songs, singer, school subject, pets, etc. - that made her feel very special! The course was just scary enough for that age group - they knew it was all pretend but loved to be a little bit scared and creeped out. The course was easy enough for the kids. The party hosts also accompanied them on the course and helped keep the kids from totally bunching up or getting out of order. All in all - an awesome fun experience - very pleased! read more

Terrible customer service here. When we went in, the owner (or someone who was acting like the owner) began giving the nice, polite employee who was helping me her instructions for the evening right in the middle of her helping us. it lasted ten minutes while i just stood there, card in hand, waiting til the employee could resume what she was doing and eventually when I said something, the owner said 'well I have to give her her instructions because she's just started work'. Come on, right in the middle of me being helped? Without looking at me or speaking to me, not to mention my kids getting whinier by the minute. Wait two minutes for your employee to finish with a customer, lady, - it's common sense not to interrupt right in the middle of a service encounter. No apology when I finally cracked and asked if they could finish me up before talking, just attitude (from the owner, not the employee). Finally, when the changeover instructions were done and the employee could get back to helping us, we had a three year old with us, who is used to trying to make himself look taller when measured (Disneyworld rides etc!) So he stood on his toes, and the nice, kind employee realized he was doing that, but was questioned on her judgment of his height, right in front of us, by the owner (kids are free up to a certain height). So unnecessary. Is it really worth it for the five bucks or whatever to leave a bad taste in people's mouths? The employee, again, had it right. Owner came across as penny pinching and rude, again. Next, AFTER we had our tickets, we were told there was a 20 minute wait to get on the course. Right. That turned out to be a 55 minute wait in a loud, amusement arcade area where every attraction costs money. I would *really* not like to show up behind a birthday party of 20 kids playing, because you could wait for ever. We eventually played the course behind a party of 13, where five kids played and eight (we counted) adults walked the course with them. It's a stupid policy to let so many non-playing adults walk the course because the only place for them to stand is right in the way of all the people trying to play behind them, they had to monopolize two holes at a time because they had nowhere to stand, so they are taking up space and slowing it down. Total bottle neck. We had to leave before the last hole because of the huge line to play it - it's a hard hole and the "grand finale" and it was bedtime for my kids, after the 55 minute wait to get on the course, they couldn't handle another 45 minutes for the last hole. The owner asked us if we enjoyed ourselves and I said we had, but we were leaving early because we had waited fifteen minutes for the last hole, and only three people had gone, seven more were in line, and her response was "glad you enjoyed yourselves." So, one star for the sucky customer service. I also rate the noisy amusement arcade atmosphere in the waiting area as one star - no sane parents want to be hassled for dollar after dollar for one minute video games or games involving enormous guns (large plastic weapons you handle) when they want a fun family-friendly outing. For the actual golf course itself, I would have given 4 stars, it was fun to do it in the dark and it's something HoCo does not already have. My 6 year old loved this place...I wasn't sure whether it would be too scary for her, but I showed her the Web site and she said she wanted to go. She enjoyed the experience and was not scared. I think it is appropriate, even for young kids--I did not see any children there who were upset. And because of the black lights, I think teenagers enjoy it as well. It's a fun change of pace from a regular golf course, and if you need something different to do indoors, this is a decent option. read more

I learned of this new business through an ad in the Baltimore Sun and was intrigued. Im a single father and sometimes find myself reaching for new activities to keep my lil guy busy, so I thought we could check it out. I was initially concerned about the "monsters" when entering, since my son is only 4, but the staff was kind and made sure to explain the "monsters" were not real and really took the time to help me make sure he was comfortable. And this was at 5pm on a saturday...It was VERY busy and I felt like we were taken care of 100%. The course is alot of fun, and not too challenging for my lil guy. He had a great time with the hole that had a wheel to spin to do different things (play with opposite hand or play backwards, etc..). After golf we played a bunch of the arcade games and he had a blast getting tickets for the prizes. The ticket counter was a big hit with him too. All in all I am glad there are new businesses that are coming around like this one and allow alternative avenues for family enjoyment (movies get old). I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family and will probably inquire about a birthday party for my sons upcoming birthday in Feb. I hope people find this review helpful. I went with my boyfriend and my young daughter last friday night (10/28). When i walked in I was greeted nicely by a young lady,there were so many people behind the counter,but she stood out because she was the only one wearing one of those cool white lab coats. She asked us how many people and the lady, i'm guessing the manager rang us up. I was pretty upset when they charged me $7 for my daughter because she was definitely not taller then the werewolf,but the lady ringing us up was biting on her lip ring and did not seem to be friendly or seem to have any care,so I just did not bother with it. Then this guy in a creepy mask popped out from behind the counter and scared my boyfriend and I. I personally do not like being scared like that,and am very glad i was not carrying my daughter,or she would have been terrified and cried. I was very upset about him getting in my face like that and considered it to be very rude,but again I chose not to say anything because by this time the manager had a cigarette in her hand seemingly just waiting for us to leave and did not seem to care at all. The course itself was a lot of fun. The painting and murals on the wall are very nice. The course, although very redundant proved to be more challenging then it looked. My boyfriend and I had a great time watching our daughter play mini golf for the first time. Unfortunately, when we were about on hole 10, a guy started to vacuum the course while we were still playing. I am sure it was not his fault,but rather the manager's, or the companies policies. I felt as if we were being rushed off the course. I found this to be extremely unprofessional. Having not said anything about any of my problems before this i asked the guy if it was the manager that told him to do this,and he simply responded "yupp." So to wrap it all up, I found the actual idea of indoor golf and the arcades to be very fun, especially the claw games that are play til you win games,those were my daughter's favorite. As for customer service,excluding the one girl that greeted us,it sucked, I think that the manager's should take more care in their customers. Had i seen the manager after we got off the course I would have asked for her name and been sure to call the owner. Customer service is key in places like these. I had a coupon on my phone from Local Flavor for a buy one get one free. When I showed the employee she said she could not accept it because it was not printed out. Nowhere on the coupon does it state that it had to be printed. I ended up paying full price. Run from this place. You have to stand in people's way to wait for next hole. No room. Very expensive and staff is unfriendly. I heard a staff member say he wants to kill him self.... so bizarre. We finally made it back to use my Groupon. We were one of two groups there the entire time. It was very empty, which we were pretty happy about on a rainy Tuesday night. The course isn't anything special. Not many unique and special mini golf holes that we're used to. Its more about the atmosphere here. The staff were not intrusive, but pretty dry personality wise. The bathrooms are very very clean and i love the hand sanitizer around every corner. I agree with other reviewers that it may be too scary for young children, but my 12 year old nephew would probably get a kick out of it. The facility is nice and the prices aren't terrible but the staff killed it for me. I didn't see any of them smile, ever. They played games but then were pretty rude and cranky about giving out prizes (which were just tickets or little crummy toys or bracelets). One woman had such an attitude with my dad, on Father's Day, because they were looking for someone wearing something Ravens or Orioles and he had a tattoo. She had such an attitude saying over and over again that he needed to be wearing it on his shirt. You would have thought the way she was guarding over the prize that it would have been worth something- nope, just tickets that I have no idea what you do with. Staff members also walked through our game without saying excuse me or anything, just walked through where we were actively playing. We had our 13-year-old grandson's birthday party at Monster Mini Golf in Jessup and it was a great experience. Jessica, the party planner was so easy to work with and took care of every detail. The party room was perfectly spooky. Jessica, with the help of her partner, Sam, directed old-fashion interactive fun games before serving food and cake. it was great we had a really good time, only thing is the holes were short other that it was really fun.

We went to the monster mini golf and spent about two hours there playing golf and games with two families. We had money left on our card and spent the last 15 minutes scrambling to spend the leftover. At 5 minutes left we began counting our tickets and the machine was malfunctioning.. After accumlating our tickets we tried to claim them two minutes after closing. We were informed that it was too late to claim the tickets, given a card reimbursement and asked to leave For the next hour we had to listen to our children's disappointment. It seems that monster mini golf runs a tight timeline simular to a precision military operation. Although not completely appalled by the experience we will likely not go again. read more

Had a great time! My six year old daughter thought this was the coolest place ever and a fun time on a day off of school. The best part though is the friendly staff. Don't waste your money or time. We waited over an hour to play. Kids running around crazy and they throw games in your face to play while you wait, but really it's a way for them to make more money. Let's start with the typical, it's not the worst buuuttttttttt..... So the mini golf aspect of the arcade is not the worst indoor course I have seen, it's small, but moves relatively quickly. It wasn't terribly busy this night (Sunday), however I could quickly see that if any one group was delayed it would become a mess. The holes are very short, some are too easy, and some are very difficult, rarely an in between. For the cost of golf I would much rather go elsewhere. It took about half an hour for us to get through the 18 holes (4 adults, took our time, goofing off, etc.) Now the arcade is a mess. We bought $20 worth of credit, and between the 4 of us we definitely racked up a lot of prize tickets, however, I went to play one of the games, and after I swiped the card, it appeared to be broken. Went to cashier, they reloaded the amount on the card (remember this later). So off we went for a few more games. If you share card, you can only use it on one game at a time, which is annoying. The games seem to give you the least amount of play time possible, for example, the basketball game didn't let you go through your whole time (60 seconds), it only let you go through one round of balls, and then locked them up. So you have to sit there like a dope the rest of the time to receive the measly amount of tickets (since you only got xx in 60 seconds, regardless if the machine was programmed that way or was just another defective machine. My sister in law and I both played ski ball, and she had double the points I earned, but received the same amount of tickets... Now when we finally decided we were done, we went to the cashier, and it said we had SEVEN tickets. Remember how the reloaded my card? That apparently wipes your previous tickets. Now not only that, but we definitely earned more than 7 tickets since the card was reloaded. There are several errors in the system. The cashier begrudgingly gave us a set amount of tickets back, BEGRUDGINGLY. Here's the deal: If I had brought kids with me, they would have been devastated. I could never bring any family here. As it was, our measly tickets couldn't even get the one thing we wanted (an inflatable sword, they were out, and I truly feel they should have given us the slightly larger version of the sword, or take the sword off the wall and give us). So we painstakingly took our time picking prizes (very crummy ticket:prize ratio), and ended up with a few small things for each of us. All in all: A disappointing endeavor. Golf was meh, arcade was crap, there was one sweet associate working that did his best, and the others were rude if we were able to get them off their cell phones long enough to perform their job. This place was terrible. It's not good for kids under the age of 7 it scared the living hell out of my sister. There is no one patrolling the course and it takes forever to get threw because of the lines. Also I put my tickets in the machine (all 3 of mine) but I only got 1. It also counted my sisters wrong by 60. When I was there someone won 1000 tickets but did not get all of them until a long wait. On the way I was blinded by the light it was so dark in there. Just had my son's 5th birthday party at the Columbia location and it was the best party he has had. We chose the VIP package which included 25 kids and we had the place to ourselves. The kids had a ball playing golf and the arcade games. The staff Kevin, Gaby, and John were very attentive and made the experience very interactive for the kids. Update 1/22/16: Someone named Kevin called me to apologize for my bad experience. I really appreciate him taking the time to do that - I feel like most establishments these days just say "too bad, so sad" to customers who have bad experiences, so I was very pleasantly surprised. Kevin took time to discuss what happened in depth to make sure he understood how he can help his staff to improve in the future. He was really nice and patient when speaking with me, and at the end of the call, he asked me if there was anything he could do to change my mind about coming back. He offered me 2 3-month passes, which I found very generous. Thanks for renewing my faith that good customer service still exists these days, even if it's few and far between. read more
