I can't say enough good things about Chad, the new owner of MFA. I had the clutch and rear main replaced in my older Subaru at MFA a little over a year ago. I was then transferred to DC, so I drove the car out there, put it in storage, and then drove it back to Portland. I'd only put ~7Kmiles on it. When I started driving it again, I noticed little pools of oil beneath it. A few oil change guys looked at it and said the rear main was leaking. I wasn't happy. I called MFA only to learn that Bob retired and sold the shop to Chad. I talked to Chad about it and he said he would take a look if I brought it up. Well, before I could get it up there, the clutch went out. I had it towed to a local shop and they tore it down. The clutch disc had literally exploded, damaging the linkage, the fork, pressure plate and fly wheel. Upon further inspection, it turned out that the rear main wasn't leaking - someone had failed to tighten a nut on the power steering line. Clips were missing, bolts were loose or missing. It really looked like shoddy workmanship. I called Chad again because I clearly couldn't get the car towed to Monroe. What a nice guy. He didn't have to do anything - the work had been done under Bob's watch and Bob is gone - but he did. Chad offered to cover the cost of the replacement clutch, and when it became clear the fly wheel was damaged, he covered that too. I did end up having to pay labor, but in all, it worked out really well. Chad was very reasonable and helpful during the entire process. He was never rude or irritated, and never talked down to me as some mechanics do with women. I truly appreciate our interaction and would now recommend MFA to anyone. Everybody has a bad day, and shops can make mistakes - the true test is in their customer service, and Chad went above and beyond anything I expected. Thanks! read more

Took my girlfriend's Dodge wheelchair van here for an oil change prior to a trip out of state. We requested EVERYTHING be inspected as the van was going to be used for a long trip and we wanted to experience a problem-free trip. A few days after the oil change, I decided to give everything under the hood a quick look over before leaving on the trip. I sure am glad I did, because as soon as I touched the upper radiator hose, it blew off and hot coolant went everywhere. I inspected the hose closely, and found it had not been installed properly when the van was at Avery for cooling system service during a previous visit. Obviously, they inspected NOTHING. Not to mention a shoddy repair previously. The hose likely would have blown somewhere along I-5, leaving a van full of kids and a disabled man stranded on a hot summer day. Bottom line is they didn't do what they said they would, and the results could have been catastrophic. NEVER again will the van be taken there, and I do NOT recommend anyone else go there, especially if you have precious cargo in the vehicle. read more

Several months ago the timing belt on my car broke. It was a Sunday, and being new to the area, I didn't know where to take my car. After spending a small fortune on the fuel pump last year, I'm a little skittish of mechanics. The tow truck driver recommended Monroe Foreign Auto, and it is the best advice I've had in a long time. I had the car towed to MFAR and Bob checked it out on Monday. He called back with an estimate of repairs, giving me several options. I called a few other shops, including the "best of" for price comparisons, and MFAR was nearly half. Needless to say, I had MFAR fix it, and they did a great job. Bob was really great in dealing with my crazy schedule, and he treated me as an adult. Yes, I too have been talked down to by many mechanics because I'm female. I liked MFAR so much, I asked Bob if they'd also look at my truck, even though he specializes in foreign cars. Again, he gave me a few options and did a great job on the work I chose. Let's be honest it's hard to find a honest and dependable mechanic these day. I've recently just moved up to Snohomish and this was one of the things I was concerned about finding a honest mechanic. I didn't have to look to hard thankfully. I needed a simple oil change and with that I can usually weed out a dis honest mechanic. Not the case at all here. They were friendly and honest. Pointing out that everything on my car that they checked was as it should be. Not saying oh you need this or that to make a quick dollar. I take care of my cars and know what's been done over the years and these guys didn't try to push on something that doesn't need fixed. read more

We limped into Monroe from Stevens Pass with the temperature gauge up and coolant all over the engine, but I couldn't find a burst hose or any other explanation. Although already busy for the day, Mike nonetheless took time, noticed a drip from a tiny hidden hose that presumably sprayed much more when temperature and pressure were up on the road. He replaced the small hose and when I went to pay, passed on that and encouraged me to do something nice for somebody. Pass it on. I will. Meanwhile I got great service, accurate diagnosis, and solid repair, as we completed the remaining 100 miles home without further incident. read more

I took my 2003 Toyota Rav4to Monroe Foreign Auto because the check engine light was on and I needed an oil change. After putting up my car the check light went out and they discovered the on board computer was dying. Bob made a phone call to the dealer and we got my car into dealer service. Without Bob's help I wouldn't have know about the extended warranty! I can not thank Bob and his team enough for all their help - and I was a first time customer! We've taken mine to get checked out once, and just recently the heater core went out on our other vehicle, (which was a total pain in the butt) but it needed to be fixed before the cold weather sets in. I visited Avery Automotive hoping to get some honest advice when I was far from home and Mike and Chad were really helpful. They listened to my concerns, looked my vehicle over thoroughly, and even a some minor adjustment without charging me. They identified my main issue and advised that it wasn't emergent and although they would've loved to do the repair, it could wait and would be more convenient for me to have done closer to home. We purchased my son's 2004 Mitsubishi, from Avery auto sales. It had higher miles, and no warranty. Almost right after, it started making a "whining" sound, and they said "bring it in, and we will check it out". They not only check it out, but fixed the problem right away, and at no charge to us.
