I've been coming here for 6 years now. The location and hours are very convenient. I've had all maintenance and almost all repairs done here. But this week I've made 3 appointments to have them check out a sound the engine is making. Each time when I showed up for the appointment I was told that they were too behind and didn't have time to look at it. 3 fucking times within 4 days! I understand they're busy. But I'm not asking them to fix it. I'm looking for a new car, so I just want them to check it out and see what the problem is. Why should I schedule another appointment?! I highly recommend this car shop. I have had 2 incredibly positive experiences there. The manager clearly really cares about his customers and establishing relationships with them. The workers are also very friendly and kind. I feel very taken care of there. I went to them with a screw in my brand new tires and they fixed it for free after having a wheel alignment done there the week prior. Came for an oil change and it took 1 hour. The cost was $100 plus fees. My receipt said the tires were rotated but that service didn't happen. Two hours for a scheduled appointment for an oil change and tire rotation, I went for a 45 min walk b/c they said it would take 45 mins. I returned and the car was still in the lot unmoved. No apologies, they moved the car to the rack and proceeded to leave it there for another 20 and didn't touch it. Time is going by and I explained I HAD to pick up my kid and "could they move this along". I'm talking to the manager at this point who is trying to justify the wait on an influx of car inspections. It's the middle of the month...Bullshit. The mechanic on my car was clearly struggling and the rest of the crew literally did nothing. This place is a joke. read more

Just want to give a heads up about an experience at Monroe Auto Service & Tire Center on Lafayette in Hampton. Brought my truck in for an oil change and inspection, I also had a low tire light on my dash. I sis notice a screw in one of my tires and asked them to fix that. Well, I pick up my truck later in the day and pay the bill. I'm driving home and the low tire light is still on. When I was home I looked at the bill and I was charged $131.00 for an oil change. I use synthetic oil so yes it cost more but I have never paid over $85 for an oil change. I did have a fog light that was out they charged $42 for the bulb! At the end of the invoice is a $39 "shop supply fee". I went back this morning to ask about the tire and he says oh it slipped my mind. When I questioned the cost of the oil change all that was said is that's our cost. When I ask for a itemized "shop supplies" usage all that was said was that a fee we add. My fault for not asking the price of and oil change but this shop is over priced and jumping on the "fee" band wagon. Consumer beware read more

Save your time and your money- do not trust this place with your car! This location has been horrific. I had my rear brakes done. Left with a horrible noise. Came back and sat for 2 hours while they tried to fix the problem. They ended up telling me to go to a Jeep dealership where they could not correct the issue. After spending more time and money at the Jeep dealership (where I should have gone from the start) they informed me the issue Monroe had told me of was false and Jeep was able to essentially complete my rear brake job which I had paid Monroe to do. After going to Monroe looking for the $150 additional money I had to spend elsewhere for a job they couldn't complete, I got the run around for months. After reaching out to customer service at corporate a few times with no response I have finally decided to give up and signed up on Yelp to share my experience. read more

Do not trust this shop. I brought my vehicle there for an ESTIMATE on a break problem. When I went to pick it up they said they "Had the vehicle taken apart and putting it back together with the old parts would be $800." -Entrapment in my opinion. With the predicament they put me in I had them do the repairs. They said the parts they used and charged for were the exact same as the original parts. Their parts then somehow rusted within two months although the 'same part' elsewhere on the vehicle which was 4 years old had no rust. Later I would find out from a local dealership that the replacement parts were a cheaper brand although the bill Monro gave me stated otherwise. In addition the said part never needed to be replaced because it would have nothing to do with the problem I was having. That was my own bad experience with this shop. State law forbids auto repair shops from charging more than 10% above the estimate. Monro isn't satisfied with its posted charge for an inspection. My final bill included an unexpected "shop supply charge" of $4.50 (exactly 10% of the already high $45 bill). Why? "To cover the cost of electricity and lights and things like that." No way. SHADY! These guys 100% tried to take advantage of me when getting an inspection done. They failed me and told me I needed brakes and tires. I brought it to my mechanic I've gone to for years and they completely disagreed and said my brakes were only 20% worn and the tires have at least a year left in them. Brought it to a different inspection place and they agreed with my mechanic and passed it no problem. 0/10 would not recommend. read more

I came in the last half hour of the day with a tire that had a nail in it. I needed a tire patched, so I could get to work the next day. I called in and they were friendly and were willing to patch up the your. I got there and a crew member met me in the parking lot, took my tire and repaired it in about 15 minutes. They helped me out and I was in my way quickly. Other shops would've said they were too busy and about to close, but the guys at Monroe helped out in a difficult day where I borrowed a car to get to work, struggled to get the wheel off on my car, having to call in someone who charged so much to get the wheel off (saying I had done most of their leg work). Came in for an inspection and oil change. My inspection isn't due for another month but I figured I would get it done early so that I wouldn't run into financial trouble in the case that something needed to be fix. I have a valid registration, but they told me they wouldn't inspect it until I reregistered my car. Slightly annoying but if they don't want my money then I'm not going to fight them. Meanwhile they inspected my girlfriends car even though she had forgot to register her car and did not have a valid registration. read more

I've had a similar experience as other posters. I felt I was overcharged and treated with less than a professional demeanor. But in all fairness, it's a auto repair garage so I expect that to a certain degree. I would go back because it's convenient for me, but I would make the sure we settle on the costs before the work is done. It's a decent place to get minor repair work done. Just expect them to mark the estimate up by 10% and make sure you tell them not to do any extra work or parts without your consent. read more

I've never done business with this establishment, however I'm researching them prior to applying for a position. I'm responding to Charlie's review. $45 is a reasonable fee for a proper state inspection. To do a proper inspection, the vehicle must be lifted, at least one wheel per axle pulled, and the headlamp aim measured. This process, when done completely can take 30 minutes with a vehilce that has no issues, and longer if there are problems found, due to the fact that inspections guidelines suggest that the inspector should give the motorist an estimate for the repairs he believes are needed. You should be wary of the shops that only charge $20 or offer free inspections with an Oil change or other service. These places will more than likely "find" issues that are not present to make up lost inspection revenue, or cut corners to try to turn a profit on the bay for the $20. A motor vehicle inspection, whether in NH, MA, or ME is the ONLY mechanical inspection that you'll actually pay for, any other time a shop will look your car over for free for the opportunity to earn the work. If you're paying for a licensed professional to evaluate if your vehicle is truly safe to drive, you should get what you paid for. Remember, you ARE NOT paying for the sticker, you're paying for this professional to evaluate the condition of your vehicle's safety equiptment, and the On Board Engine computer (which dictates how much you spend in fuel.) The sticker is the after thought. As for the shop supply charge, this is an industry standard approach to avoid "nickle and diming" customers for expenses related to servicing your vehicle, of which doing the books would become a nightmare. Even with a state inspection, the shop is using electricy (lift, air compressor, lighting) paying a lease on the inspection equipment, paying for employee uniforms (require to be covered by employers, per LAB 800,) shop rags and chemicals, and the like. I believe NH allows 10% of the invoiced amount, up to $35. The shop supply charge IS NOT part of the estimate, and not subject to the 10% restriction on going over the estimate. Plus, the very page you link us too even states that this restriction only applies to WRITTEN estimates. Unless you asked for a written estimate for a State Inspection prior, the 10% rule doesn't even apply. No one twisted your arm to pay the $45 if you thought it was unfair. There are plenty of inspection stations along US-1 that have charges ranging from $19.95 and up. But remember, you get what you pay for! When you're consistantly cheap with your vehicle, especially your daily driver, it will catch up to you. read more

The staff who answered the phone were condescending, they didn't document the type of tire I had requested then at 5:30pm the day of the appointment, they called me to tell me that there had been an inventory error and they didn't have the tires in stock. It wouldn't be till later than next day that my car would be available. How can you have an inventory error when someone has given one weeks notice to the type of tires they wanted and call them at 5:30 at night to tell them of this error. It appears that someone was not doing their job. Maybe if I Had not been female they would not have been so condescending to me. When I questioned them how they could've made this error when they had a weeks notice to head of time and it was unacceptable and how was I going to be compensated for my inconvenience all of a sudden they found tires in my car could be ready the next day at 8 AM. They are worse than use car salesman do not go there except maybe if you're a man. read more

We had been going to Monro for years with positive experience. i have to say that things have changed and i concur with Mike B. (I think we had same mechanic) We had a simple oil change and inspection A week later there was a puddle of oil in our driveway we took the car back and they said there was no leak but the mechanic did not take off a panel so when the oil was changed so it was caught in the car this in itself was sloppy but they cleaned it up A week later and still oil is leaking we took to a different shop and found that the Monro mechanic used absolutely the wrong size filter and jammed it in so tight and off kilter that of course oil leaked! And now we have a stain in our driveway - the Monro stain. read more

Our car broke down on the way back from Maine. It was Sunday and everything else was closed. I called this Monro, talked with them about my check engine light, and they told me what was wrong right away. We got there close to 4 pm, and they were scheduled to close at 5 pm. They were good enough to take my car in. It turned out that the repair took much longer. And they stayed for extra 3 hours to get my car fixed! What a service! I'm new to the area, and so I sought out reviews about car services. Monro had pretty positive feedback, so I decided to take my car in for an oil change and tire rotation. Once I dropped off the car, a few hours later I received a phone call asking me to come to take a look at it, as it's best to review things in person. My fiancé quickly took the phone, and asked to hear what was going on with the car, before we made the inconvenient drive back to the shop. We were told that the rear brakes and rotors would need to be replaced, which would amount to ~$680. We called Pep Boys and they quoted us at $350. I must disagree with other posters. I have been a customer of Munro Muffler in Hampton, NH for twenty-five years. For the last ten I have driven over 30 miles to have my vehicles serviced in this shop. Why? The manager and head mechanic, Joe, knows his stuff cold and is a stand-up guy. As an added bonus, he's a unique character as well. The rest of the mechanics are excellent as well. I can't comment on competing prices, because I go there exclusively. I will say that it's been a while, no, two whiles since i had an inexpensive repair of anything. I'm interested in quality and if it costs a little more, and I'm not saying that they overcharge, I'm willing to pay the going rate for quality car care. I strongly believe that when you find a good mechanic, you stick with him. What's it worth to have the job done right on the first try? To me, it's worth a lot. read more

I brought my Buick there for an inspection and they handed me a $800 bill for what it needed and why it "failed" state inspection, which one of the items they said was because of tint. Only problem w/ that was it only had the normal factory tint on it. I then brought it to the Buick dealer in portsmouth, it cost me $100 to fix what was needed and passed state safety. They said most of the items on monro's list were exagerated and in some cases fabricated. Also when my nanny went to pick up the Buick at monro, the manager hit on her, she is 18 and he must be in his 40's. CREEPY! I dont normally say anything bad about anybody, but this place needs to be avoided. read more

Whoever answers the phone for them has terrible customer service skills. Extremely disappointed with Monro in general. Had my "lifetime warranty brakes" done through them. I was told any Monro would honor it and that it would be in their computer systems for future service. The Monro I went to in Newington appears to have closed down due to poor service. I called this Monro and the guy on the phone said that he would not honor the warranty if I didn't have it on paper and that they use a different computer system. I have been going to Monro in Hampton NH for 5+ years now and wouldn't go anywhere else. Both my son and I have had problems with other places telling us we needed expensive repairs, then we had Monro check and there was no problem. we would have spent hundreds of dollars in unnecessary repairs if it had not been for them. My son knows quite a bit about cars and can do repairs but unfortunately we live in a condo and repairs are not allowed on the property. Whenever we notice any thing my son checks it then takes it to Monro where they are honest and professional. They will take you out back and show you what the problem is, so if they tell you you need brakes then you obviously need them. Did you ever think maybe they we never checked at all with your oil change??? Monro has many repeat customers who are very happy with the service. there is nothing "shifty" about the guy at the front desk it would have been either Joe the manager or Kevin the assistant manager both are very honest and more than fair and treat you like family. I would recommend them to anyone, all I can say is if you think you can do better somewhere else go ahead and get ripped off ! read more
