I'm somewhat torn about this place as I almost didn't go in. We came to see a DJ and the doors were suppose to open at 10. We got there at 10:30PM and the line was already down the block. We waited probably about 45 mins before they actually opened the doors and let people in. Once we got inside we realized the whole place was empty and was extremely puzzle as to why we had to wait so long. The venue was fine and the music was great and I would totally come back to see a show again if it weren't for the artificial "line" they create outside just to make it seem like the place is more packed than it is. It's a cheap marketing ploy that is done at the expense of their customer's time. read more

Ok so, my friend came visit from California and we took him to monkey loft for the stayinalive disco night a couple days ago. We didn't get tickets online so we waited in line to buy tickets at the door. We got there at around 11:10pm. About 20mins later we were told that the club had reached the opacity limit. And they changed the price from $20 to $25. As we can hear the music from the outside and I really liked it so we decided to wait a little bit longer. We waited another 20mins and got in. I thought it would be packed since they said it had reached the opacity limit and raised the price. But it's not...it's more than half empty. The top floor was kinda full but the mid floor and the basement were quite empty. I was disappointed to be honest. We got some drinks, drinks were on point tho. As we were dancing I happened to look outside of the window and saw 2 security guys beating up a guy... I'm not sure what happened but the guy seemed super wasted but um they were beating him up pretty bad. The cops came later then I stopped watching but I guess the whole thing killed my friend's mood so we ended up leaving.(SAD:'() Anyways, this might not be a very pleasant visit but I would give it a try one more time! read more

Monkey loft is my favorite club in Seattle! Super good music and way better people than most other music venues in the area. I feel safe here and love that there's 2 floors plus an outside area! Some of my favorite memories have taken place here. Will forever love this place and their staff. Especially the ticket girl who has been there for years and is always so happy! Three levels??? When? I've been twice in last few weeks and the top floor (the best floor) was closed both times. It's so hot in there that no roof top access is a huge drawback. Cool place and the different floors are fun but the management is annoying with the staff constantly guarding the bathrooms and poorly arrange bars with horrendous lines. An interesting spot! If you're familiar with Honolulu's Chinatown scene, it's like that. More of an off-the-strip type casual bar that happens to have a dance floor. It's not snooty, it's not overly crowded, nor is it dirty or scary. The cover was cheapish, there's coat check and up the stairs you go. The bar was never too crowded, and the dance area was always filled with people just enjoying themselves. The night I went the DJ played a steady flow of dance music but nothing recognizable. All of the staff was very nice and upbeat. No creepers and a variety of folks of all ages, although mainly an older crowd but there were some young faces. VERY casual dress: everything from hippie tie dye pj pants to hipster high waist jeans. Almost everyone had sneakers on and most of the girls has messenger bags and jeans. Some obviously dressed up people float in around 2am when the fancy fancy clubs close. The alternative crowd seem to enjoy themselves here, it's very open and accepting type of place, there's just a big mix of everyone! There is a restroom which the line is always long for, but there's two couches and there's always a seat or arm rest to hang out on when you're tired. The outside portion opens up late at night, and it's a beautiful walk way to a huge outdoor seating area! They should have another DJ out there! There's a fireplace and heaters too, along with another restroom. Easy parking along the ave, overall great for a low key night and when you just want to be comfortable and hang out! read more

This place is absolutely horrible. I've honestly never been here before but apparently going to the bathroom with a friend is treated like I'm distributing drugs. First off, there is NO sign saying one person allowed. I step in the bathroom with my friend, 30 seconds later someone is POUNDING on the door, I mean vigorously knocking while I am no joke on the toilet. I'm mid peeing and then he starts shining a flashlight through the door. Like are you serious?! I didn't have pants on and at this point I felt my privacy was severely violated. I hurried and obviously stopped peeing because I seriously believed they were about to bust open the door. Mind you, TWO girls had stepped out before we went in so obviously we had no clue this was un-allowed. Anyways, the second we step out of the bathroom, the security card aggressively pulled my arm and told me I'm getting kicked out. No warning? I've been to many clubs and if this is a rule most security provide a stern warning, which is acceptable. But here at Monkey Loft, for not opening the door when I literally peeling, I was thrown out immediately. Honestly, he viciously grabbed my arm and forcefully escorted me outside. I wasn't even resisting, he just felt the need to exert violent security. Oh, and it was my birthday. The security could not care less about being humane or understanding. I'm talking absolute scum of security. Horrible behavior from a grown man to two young females. The only reason I even give it one star is for the bouncer at the front entrance named 'Ashley' who was the only staff who genuinely cared to listen and provide kind hospitality. Seriously, go home after the club. Order a pizza. Screw this place and their security. read more

I've only been here a handful of times during afterhours (usually they're open until 4am, but sometimes later). This place is a hidden gem in the Emerald City! Great electronic music and many DJs will stop by after playing a show at The Showbox SoDo. I love the lounge, the view of 1st Avenue and the décor is classy. The bartenders make great drinks without making you wait too long even when they're busy. However they need more bathrooms. The people that come here are really down to earth and fun, making it feel like home. If you liked ETG or the Old Limb Factory, chances are that you'll love this place because of the similar atmosphere. I can't wait to come here again!!! First Fridays are always fun with Drum 'n Bass. In fact, I'll probably be there after the show I'm going to. This place is starting to become a part of the normal night out routine. read more

They're always willing to hear out a complaint and do their best to help create a safe, fun environment for everyone. The Monkey Loft, as well as all the people involved that host nights there, do their best to create a safe and unpretentious space where you can come to: - Dance - Be yourself - Have fun - Make friends This is NOT the club for you if you all you care about is image, getting laid, or status. This IS the club for you if you want to make deeper connections with other people who love music and dance, and want to have a great time in a safe environment. Overall, you'll find really genuine and kind people in attendance. Girls, you can leave your heels at home and dance in flats or sneakers if you want. Let your dance moves come out fully without worrying about tripping on your face. Rock what you want. As far as the space goes, it's got a beautiful wood floor (my old dancer knees say THANK YOU), and very swanky ambience. Also, the large back patio opens at 2am and pretty much rocks. This space is a safe haven for those in the underground house music scene, and a place of refuge for those who want to come enjoy themselves and dance without feeling like they're participating in a predatory meat market (I, for one, can't STAND clubs like that). Fantastic place; always has a great party. I've been coming here for months and the people are welcoming, the atmosphere is beautiful, the drinks are strong, and the vibe is perfect. Whether you are a house music veteran or a first-timer, the people here are quick to welcome you like family. After climbing a set of stairs, you enter a place starkly different from the industrial SODO surrounding outside. Funky and smooth--the low leather chairs, candlelight, and wood paneling set the tone for a great night. The bartenders, Tessa and Tony, are wonderful people who remember their customers and your "usual." The security/doormen are an easygoing bunch and keep out the folks who cause trouble. Plus, you are likely to see Brian, the owner, walk around and greet people on the floor. Treat them well and you'll gain new friends. The music--this is real HOUSE. Deep house, funky house, tech, etc.--all the good sounds and feelings that will make you dance through the 4am-ish closing time. And dance you will! This place is unlike most clubs around Seattle; although there is space to relax, know that most people come here to DANCE. Whether you are a professionally trained dancer or you prefer to nod your head to the beat, don't hesitate to join the rest of the crowd out on the floor. NO ONE judges. However, the other night I had a bunch of people out for my birthday at Monkey Loft. Literally 5 people I know tripped over the planter coming out of the bathroom, including a friend who completely face-planted and had to go home he was in so much pain. PLEASE move that black planter outside the restroom! It's dark in there and no one can see it. At very least put some lights around it. read more

Really nice, classy, and clean interior, especially for an after-hours club. The music is great... the DJs have been bringing it. In my opinion, this is now *the* place to go for dance since ETG is gone. Also, the patrons there are a really cool crowd. People are just there for music and to be cool to each other. The music and events are always incredible and the staff takes great care of you. Inside, the space is gorgeous with tasteful, quality decor and the rooftop is unbeatable, especially during their Summertime Wednesday evening parties, when you can see the sunset reflecting off of down town behind the DJs and enjoy a delicious cocktail while dancing surrounded by smiles. I was honestly expecting more, tbh. Got there at around 1:20am and there was no line on a Saturday. Paid $20 for two. Got in and it was last call for drinks. The drinks were very strong for sure but I hated how they go around making you drink your drink by 1:50am. I had to chug mine and felt nauseous afterward. Used the restroom and had someone knocking so hard on the door for some reason. Really odd and annoying. Felt like they played the same music for a loooong time. The rhythm wouldn't change. I haven't reviewed in awhile and this place deserves to be reviwed. I heard about Monkey Loft, I heard they play great house music and open late. I wanted to check it out. I don't know but for some reason this venue rubbed me the wrong way. For starters they had a line going still, VIP and regular line at around 1:50 am. We were in line when my date lost his balance and almost tipped over the barrier. The bouncer said he was too drunk and couldn't come in. He wasn't drunk, he had just withdrawn cash from the atm. We convinced the bouncer he was fine. The cover was $15 cash and $3 coat check. You go up a set of dark stairs. You get in and there's plenty of room to dance. They have large couches to sit too. He wanted me to check out the bottom floor...dark stairs going down. Inside is nice and warm looking. Candles and mirrors a chilled space. They have their own bar downstairs. Next, we checked the roof ....here I go again with dark steep stairs. Before you can get there you have to cross the connecting pathway leading out to the patio and it too was dark. There's a fireplace there and you're supposed to be able to see some sort of view. Well they blocked most of it by very tall walls. I am sure it's for safety reasons but it would have been better if they were the clear walls. Only a handful of people were outside. I decided to stand on the bench facing opposite and adjacent from the wall to get a better view. Not much of a view except for the Starbucks tower. A bouncer came out of nowhere and told me I had to get off the bench. He said the owner can see me on camera and yelled in his earpiece for him to tell me to step off the bench. I did it. I was ready to step off anyway. We went back to the main dance floor to dance. They were playing jive music, some dance music, and I really didn't care about the rest. There were all sorts of characters and ages there. Some guy in a chicken suit but also painted his face to look like a chicken too. Some girl in a submissive type outfit with a collar. All sorts I say. I decided to go downstairs since it was a bit more romantic. Well around 3am, they turn on the lights and kick you out. They said they were closed and you can dance upstairs. I thought the whole venue closes at 4am! So up the stairs I go! I wore flats that night but I can imagine how dangerous it would have been for those girls who were wearing heels. They don't have lights to guide you. Anyway, I had enough of the place and was tired and wanted to go home. Overall, I wouldn't drive all the way to Sodo for a not so great experience. read more

This place is exactly what you'd probably expect a late night dance club to be. It's crowded, the drink are a little overpriced, and the music is loud. I have been here a few times because they are open until 4 or 5 am- so it's nice to head to the Loft after the bars close down. Probably the best part about Monkey Loft is their rooftop. I wish If there was a star below 1 I would have given this place without hesitation. The place has an ok atmosphere and vibe was good until you get something stolen from you. I had my new jacket stolen from our table right in front of me. I realized that it was gone with in probably 20 minutes because i saw it then, the staff was very unhelpful in any way to assist. It was a lot of price to pay for a mediocre place and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone. If you decide to go though, please make sure your belongings are with you AT ALL TIMES! read more

Ever since I moved here from Los Angeles in 2012 I've been looking for a club that plays terrific deep house music and has that underground vibe. Thought I'd finally found it with Electric Tea Garden and I got to go a couple of times before they shut down last fall. Finally, I got invited to go and check out the Monkey Loft one night and I was hooked. Every time I've been there's been a terrific, mixed crowd of all ages and from all walks of life, and they are all here for one reason - they're all here to dance the night away. Trust - they book some top-notch DJ talent here at teh Monkey Loft and they often stay open later than 2 am on weekend nights. The patrons are smiling and grooving, the bartenders are fast and friendly, the booze flows freely, and the DJs keep that crowd on the floor literally from start to finish. The only improvement I would make would be to have more bathrooms. Seems there's not much that can be done about this right now, so I'm not deducting any stars from my review. read more

This club is awesome! 90% of the people there come for the music and to dance. The other 10% are there looking for a hookup. What I love is that it's such a diverse mix of who shows up. I've NEVER seen this anywhere and it makes me feel happy, like everyone is involved and together. Dress up if you want or dress down if that's more comfortable and pleasing to you. There are men in suits, women in yoga clothes, and people in flip flops. It's all okay. The crowd is mostly 30 somethings with a smattering of 40s, 50s+. The vibe is really chill and the nightlife is really enjoyable, a healthy way of living! I'll definitely be back! read more
