A quarter muff is $9.95 on the regular menu so you think you'll get a nice size salad for the extra $9.00. No. It is the smallest side salad in the tiniest bowl ever. I had been buying Monjunis' Sunday gravy for over a year before trying the restaurant. I wish I would have gone sooner! Stepping into the dining room is a step back in time. The decor makes you feel like you're in an Italian grand mother's kitchen learning the secrets to life. We enjoyed a sampler of lasagna, spaghetti, and muffalata. I would highly recommend this plate because it offers so much value. Everything was delicious but the spaghetti was my favorite. For dessert, we had the almond cake. Have gone to Monjunis many times over the years and loved the place and the food. I have noticed price increases, but that is true of most restaurants. However, my husband and I went last night and we were both stunned at how much the prices have increased in just the past three months. We also noticed that the serving size has decreased by anywhere from 15-20%. I had the chicken alfredo for $27.54 and what I received was about 20% less than what it had been. The alfredo sauce was a bit on the watery side, where it had been really delicious and thicker as it should be. The chicken was a few chunks--six at most. Have had it enough there to know what it should be. My husband got the spaghetti (angel hair) with one meatball for $27.54. The pasta was a bit overcooked, but edible. Our server was very nice and did a good job. There were very few people in the restaurant when we were there. She kept bringing us more bread and refilling our water. We felt sorry for her, so we left a really nice tip. Cannot blame the server/s for price increases, etc. Monjunis is better than some other Italian restaurants we have tried, but we are going to look for another Italian restaurant. Just cannot justify going where the prices have been jacked up so much, the food quantity reduced, and quality somewhat iffy. read more

I have eaten at both the Monjunis in Shreveport, but I never knew this one existed until a friend suggested it for lunch. This one is just as good as the originals. Today I had the Shrimp Toast appetizer and it was fantastic. Followed that up with a Chicken Parm po-boy that was also very nicely done. My friend is a big fan of the Meatball po-boy. Neither of us could finish it all after eating the appetizer so we both took leftovers home. The experience was very nice overall. Our waiter was friendly and never let our drinks get empty. The restaurant was quiet and calm. For atmosphere music they were playing slow Italian love songs (violins, accordion, think Godfather or Lady & the Tramp) which is fun. Ate good food. I ordered to go using a 225best eats voucher for my boyfriend and I. The food was ready within 15 minutes and the pick up experience was fast. We got the 6 piece breadsticks with cheese and these were very good. I like extra cheese and these had a large amount which was perfect for me. My bf got the spaghetti and 1 meatball and I got the chicken Parmesan and a side salad. The side house salad was really good and was dressed with olives cheese and tomatoes. The chicken parm breading was overcooked and hard. And my bf said the meatball was ok. We went on a Monday and only one other table with two people were there at noon. We should have realized it wasn't the place to have good Italian food. The lasagna was old because the lasagna noodles were brown, not freshly made and very "microwave hot." It smoked from the time we got it until the time we left. The noodles were also mushy inside and out. It was the worst I've ever tasted and left it on the plate. Bread was never offered, but we requested some to get it. Loved this place!! I had the pleasure of grabbing dinner at Monjunis! The restaurant is in a shopping center so there was plenty of parking. The first thing I noticed walking in was how cute it was. The ceiling is covered with hanging grapes and white lights. It would be great for a date night .. It's very romantic without feeling stuffy. Great place for kids too. It reminded me of Lady in the Tramp! Upon arriving we were quickly seated. It took a minute for our waitress to come to the table but once she did she apologized for the wait and was attentive after that. She brought us back garlic bread and marinara for the table. It was very good. We decided on trying the fried eggplant spears and we were happy we did. The eggplant was great. Crunchy but thick enough to taste the eggplant. The eggplant was also served with a side of marinara. I ordered baked ravioli as my entree.. so good. The raviolis we're stuffed with cheese and topped with a chunky marinara. Customer service was lacking all around. We asked to not be seated in the middle & although there were empty seats on the side the hostess still sat us in the middle. Constantly being seat bumped by people walking back n forth by, had a high chair lifted over my head. The waiter seemed very young and inexperienced. Didn't check on us had to ask multiple times for stuff even the check. Also he didn't know anything- he told us a large margarita was a 32 oz when in actuality it's a 16oz cup- major difference. He would disappear a lot-he just seemed lost. The Italian margarita is good and strong- highly recommend. The appetizers were great! Fried ravioli and bread sticks were delicious along with the complimentary bread. So we were really surprised at how bad the s spaghetti and meatballs tasted. They automatically put Parmesan cheese without asking, the sauce is too sweet. The biggest issue is the meatballs. You pay extra for it and it's finally ground meat mash together no type of seasoning and the texture was like catnip. It literally reminded me of a can of SpaghettiOs. Monjuni's is one of my favorite places to go to treat myself in the city. I love that their red sauce tastes different from anywhere else because it is on the sweeter side, and I'm pretty sure that's what makes me keep coming back. One of my favorite things to get for lunch is their meatball poboy. The meatballs are huge, the bread is soft but still has some crispness to it, and the provolone is always super melted. I also like that it comes with an extra side of sauce to dip it in if you want extra sauce (which I always do!) so it's more like an "Italian dip" in my mind. Some people might find the decor a little cheesy, but I love that it helps set the stage to make me feel like I'm not in Baton Rouge, at least for a little bit. read more

The sausage did not taste good, which is a huge disappointment for an Italian place. It wasn't cooked well, and was difficult to eat. The peppers and onions on the sandwich were not cooked well enough either. The muffuletta was alright. Not the worst I've had, but not the best. If you want good Italian sandwiches, go to Anthony's. My dad, mom, and I went to Monjunis on Valentines Day and we had a pleasant time. First of all, I really enjoyed the inside decor. The ceiling was beautiful with the grape vines and lights. The Italian Margarita was probably my favorite thing of the night! Followed by the tiramisu which was delicious!! I had the baked ravioli and that was just alright. My dad loved his, he had the spaghetti and meatball. My mom however was not a fan of hers, she said the Alfredo sauce was bland and the chicken she added needed to be grilled more and have some more seasoning. Loved this place. They have the absolute best red sauce. I had the spaghetti and meatball. This was enough for two meals and again the sauce is to die fir. My husband had their fried ravioli which he calls excellent .... He let me taste it and I agree... plus the red sauce. My daughter had shrimp Alfredo she loved it also and again there was enough to bring home for a second meal. Monjunis is a Louisiana/Italian company that originated in Shreveport. Their Baton Rouge location on Jefferson Highway is tucked into the corner of the Goodwood Village Shopping Center. This corner location offers them space for an outdoor patio seating area, which is a nice space. The interior has the same charm as the other Monjunis locations. It is moderately lit, has lots of faux grapes hanging from the ceiling, and red and white checked tablecloths dress the tables. The wait staff are great, and somehow manage to deal with both children and groups. They also have products to buy at the register. Things ranging from Jordan Almonds, to their own brand of olive salad and red sauce (the latter two are often available at local grocery stores as well). But you probably want to eat, so let's discuss the food. They have a broad range of pasta dishes; which are all great. These feature their signature red sauce, which is slightly sweet. This sauce is also featured in the toasted garlic bread they bring you while you examine the menu. Definitely one of my favorite parts of the meal. They have great sandwiches, including the mighty Muffulettas (which can be had in 1/4, 1/2, & whole, and three types). Po-Boy choices include excellent Italian Sausage, Meatball, and three versions of parmesans. There is also a Shrimp Po-boy and Roast Beef Po-Boy if someone in your party doesn't feel like going for something Italian. Sides include some Parmesan Fries or a Side Salad (the House is my favorite). If you have room left, they always have a good choice of desserts listed on the wall. I love this place, I'd bring anyone and everyone I know to this little restaurant (friends, family, kids, first dates, etc). It is a bit hole-in-the-wall, but that just adds to the ambiance. The Sampler plate is a great option if you want to see what all they offer and if you are willing to take home leftovers. Besides that, try their spaghetti, their poboys (especially chicken or veal), and their meatball nachos appetizer. Mediocre, and barely that for our last visit. We've eaten there several times over several years when in town; the experiences vary from 3 to 4 stars for visits with a couple of children. This review is for supper Friday, August 5. First, we were told they had gluten-free pasta (required for a teenage granddaughter with celiac syndrome). It's a simple thing, very common in a capitol city with a large university. When we got there and ordered, "Sorry, we're out of it." Granddaughter made do with a salad. Second, the service was spotty (understanding that we were a party of six). My wife's lasagna was brought several minutes after the other entreea, with a curt "Sorry about that." Third, several menu items weren't available. Fourth, the only desserts were cake, with nothing gluten-free. (They didn't even have ice cream). Once again, our granddaughter was out of luck. (Interestingly, a coffeeshop with many gluten-free bakery products is two doors away, where Monjuni could get such desserts.) We won't be giving them another chance to blemish an evening with our kids & grandkids. read more
