Much better than the nearby Mongrel BBQ Cart, which is run by dogs. What to get: Lamb Kebab Skewer with Cumin Spice... wow. There are quite a few of these heavenly Chinese BBQ carts all over Flushing. The Mongolian Cart, when it's there (and sometimes it's not), is one of the best. The skewers of Lamb (with spice, which is Cumin), are so heavenly, that there's no need to order anything else. Although you may wish to, just to compare. Walk south on Main St from Xi'an or the train station or Roosevelt... you will get here after about 5 minutes. You may have to wait awhile for your skewers, so if it's cold, make sure you're bundled up. Dirt cheap and some of the juiciest, most amazing lamb kebabs you'll ever eat. And don't trust the other cart nearby run by apes. The employees constantly misinform you. Which is why it's called Monkeylying BBQ Cart.

One of the many street carts in Flushing that sell excellent kebabs for $1 apiece. So why 5 stars for this one, and just 4 for the qually excellent Xinjiang BBQ Cart[1]? Simple: this is the only cart I found in Flushing that sells duck kebabs and fish kebabs. Squid kebabs, to be precise. Tucked on Sanford Ave. a little away from busy Main St. and Kissena Blvd, this cart may be easily overlooked by the non-trained (i.e. white) eye, since the name and the menu are written only in Chinese. That's what stimulated my curiosity in the first place: this place must be good. I was particularly curious about the squid kebab[2]. I LOVE squid! I always liked its chewy consistency and the sweet taste. When I was a kid, every Friday my father would bring home some wonderful squids from the fish market, and grill them whole on what looked like a panini press. The squid would then be cut into smaller pieces, and eaten with olive oil, a dash of lemon, freshly chopped parsley and garlic, and a pinch of salt. It was simple and wonderful. This squid kebab brought back all those memories and more[3]! A few things are more satisfying than fresh, tasty food prepared in the simplest possible way. While I happily chew on this delicious squid, I wonder how come that the only cart in Flushing that sells squid is from Mongolia. Do they have squid in Mongolia...? ----------------------------------------------------- [1] http://www.yelp.com/user_details_review_search?userid=QwY_IrZ7Xs4N1ksO6GUBOA&q=xinjiang [2] I also tried the lamb kebab: deliciously fatty and juicy! [3] If, like me, you have a fascination for squids and krakens alike, I recommend this book: http://www.amazon.com/Search-Giant-Squid-Mythology-Creature/dp/0140286764/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1283396129&sr=1-1

I am not a fan of BBQ meat on a stick from a street food cart but when there are 15+ children, women, and men waiting patiently for the BBQ meat-on-a-stick to cook at the corner of Stanford and Main St. and it is only for a $1, OH MY! I will break my taboo once. (I hate following the herd but it's for Yelp.) I tried it and it tasted pretty good; I am still not sure what kind of meat I ate (see Matteo's review for possible animal type!) but it was tasty and not too heavy on the marinate. Since I can not compare it to any other BBQ food cart; yes it is good but the smoke; cough, cough! Tip: And don't try to talk to anyone they'll think you are trying to cut the line. People do look like they are cutting the line when the cook started to serve.

    Keep them Sticks Coming!

My 1st choice for Mongolian BBQ Skewers ... I been coming to this spot for awhile & I just keep coming back. The Lamb, Beef & Squid are on point, full of flavor & tender, always cooked just right. The Spicy seasoning is addicting with a KICK! Spicy & Xtra Spicy are the only way to go :). Try not to stand next to the BBQ Cart while the skewers are being prepared. The smoke produced by the grill latches onto clothing ... You will smell, like a giant Charcoal Grill The Entire Day! FYI: Prepare to wait at least 5 minutes ... $1.25 per skewer!

You'll always get tasty treats from any of these carts. $1 for a freshly grilled skewer over charcoal - serioulsy? We grabbed a quick snack opting for a lamb and chicken gizzard each and asked for extra spicy. Delicious! Why can't we have carts like these in SF?!?

We went a second time because our first experience was so good that we wanted to try their other dishes, and now after the second time, we can't wait to return for a third. We definitely need to return with a bigger group the next time we go so that we can try more of their dishes! Our second time there, we had the "Night Market Chow Fun" and the "Chongqing Braised Beef." Both were excellent! Probably my favorite Chow fun now and the Chongqing braised beef was so tender and had all the szechuan tingly spices that open up your taste buds and sensories. We LOVED both dishes. It had the 3 chili pepper sign and the server warned us that it was very spicy, and IT WAS -- in all the good ways. May not be for the faint, though, so be careful. Not sure if they can adjust the spiciness. We enjoy their "film set" ambiance, giving it a cooler dining experience than your normal authentic casual space -- adds some flare for a date night or for friends. MUST RETURN FOR MORE!

Well, I know why now AND I can tell you I would still come again. First - the place is very traditional Chinese style and very spacious inside. We were seated quick and didn't need a reservation or anything as TBH bf and I came to Flushing to get Dim sum...to find out that our dim sum spot is GONE!! (this is another story) Anyways - there's a digital menu so you can browse and also see straight up how much everything would cost. The staff are also very helpful if you need any assistance esp if you don't speak or read Chinese. Anyways - Juqi is known for their peking duck so we ordered the half duck set. Which also with the leftover pieces or bones (or something) they will ask if you want to fry them or make into a soup. We choose fried (well I would preferred the soup but..haha next time), seafood fried rice, soy sauce chicken, Chinese vegetable and beef with green peppers. All the food came out pretty quick! The duck came out and the server showed us how to properly wrap it up to eat. The duck was tender and skin was soo crispy. It wasn't heavy at all. The soy sauce chicken was properly seasoned and it came with a sweet chili sauce and a ginger oil sauce, both was great. But not needed but that's also preference. The beef and green peppers were so well balanced and beef was soo tender and soft, not dry over overcooked at all. The Chinese vegetable was very simple but crispy (not overly cooked) and the portion was bigger than I thought. Lastly and my favorite dish was the seafood fried rice. It doesn't looked seasoned and even plain but the taste is very clean, simple and elegant . Meaning it's fried rice but it's not greasy from the usual. The taste held well over the next 3 days (leftovers) and I can say that it still tasted as good as the day we ordered it. We had leftovers and I was able to enjoy them for lunch on a work day!!! Win! So yeah it might seem pricey for the food but I think it's worth it. It's the quality of the food and it's deff there. They ensure that the food stands out on it's own without having to cover it all up in heavy sauce or seasoning.

So, my boyfriend and I decided to check out the ice rice from this place as well as a couple of other items. Firstly, I got deep fried rice cake skewers. They were just okay because I was expecting some kind of crunch after seeing deep fried. However, there was no crunch at all and it was a little lacking in flavor. I did enjoy it though because it still had a very chewy texture which was what I was looking for. The chicken skewers I liked a lot better. The chicken was tender and although also more lightly seasoned than places, I really enjoyed it! My boyfriend wanted to try the Udon Noodles from the menu as well which I was pleasantly surprised with. The udon noodles were perfectly bouncy and did not feel too oily. And for the star of the show, we got the Milk Tea Chilled Ice. It came with a lot of toppings on the rice varying from taro mochi to herbal jelly and watermelons which were all delicious. The milk tea base is a light Earl Grey Milk Tea and being someone who struggles with black tea sometimes, this black tea was really good! It was nicely floral from the earl grey but not bitter at all! I will definitely be back again to try out a couple more items since they do close pretty late as well. They have a huge fine in area so I will probably try dining in.
