Great price point for great dim sum. My boyfriend and I ordered a combination of hargow, pork siomai, shrimp rice noodles, radish cakes, and sesame balls, all for about $17! I come here when I need a quick dim sum fix. Their food is good but not great, like I wouldn't crave their pot stickers or shrimp dumplings. They open at 7am if you have to rush off to work and need some breakfast to go. We were curious this morning as to why there was a long line outside. We love dim sum so thought we'd check it out. After waiting in line for about 10 mins, we reached the counter to place our order. The lady asked us what we wanted. We ordered 6 baked pork buns, 6 steamed pork buns, potstickers, shrimp dumplings and a few other items. I assumed all the baked/dry items would be packed separately in a box from the moist items. After ordering, she took all our items and placed them next to her calculator behind the counter. She started adding my items up with a small handheld calculator (I thought businesses use cash registers to add things up?) which I thought was strange. She turned around and said "$41". I asked for an itemized receipt so that I knew what I was charged for, since I found it odd that it was exactly "$41". She gave me a print out from the register that was not itemized for exactly $41. Whatever. When we got back home and opened our bag, we were disappointed that she mixed our pork buns up with shrimp dumplings and stuffed the baked and steamed buns all together that it destroyed its shape. She mixed the wet and dry foods, making our pork buns soggy. She even got our order wrong. We will not be returning. Save your time, don't wait in line and go somewhere else. In terms of dim sum to-go, this is a very decent place! Everything is fresh and steamy, and the staff ladies are efficient. I especially like their siu mai with shrimp and pan fried buns. There are 3 buns in each order, which can definitely fill you up. The skin is slightly seared and the bun is filled with meat and veggies. This is definitely a good deal! During busy hours there's always a long line out the door, but it moves fast so I don't mind waiting. We use to come to this place all the time. It was our go-to place for all our dim sum needs. But lately service has been bad and the ladies behind the counter have been increasingly rude. Our last experience was the last straw. We went in to get a very simple dish. It was right there looking up at us waiting to be bought. The lady in front bought $6.50 worth of food. She gave $6.50 exactly. There was no one behind us, we were the next party. But instead of putting the exact change away, the lady decided to count out her money drawer. Seriously... you got the exactly change. It's not that difficult to count out. Plus, it's the middle of the day... you shouldn't be counting out your drawer when there are customers waiting. Suppose being there was no one behind us, she could take her time. I was getting annoyed. Finally she paid attention. Got out order and proceeded with payment. She gave the wrong change. So we called her out. She corrected her mistake by throwing the change at us. Come on!! YOU gave the wrong change. YOU ignored us when we were ready to order. YOU then, instead of politely giving us the correct change, threw it at us. We don't need this kind of service. If you are having a bad day, STAY HOME! It's people like this that give Asians a bad name in customer service. Never coming back here again. There are other places that have way better manners and good dim sum choices. I've been craving take-out dim sum recently. I stopped by Mongkok for some har gow, spareribs in black bean sauce over rice, and congee. The total was $7.90 and I had enough food for two meals. They're generous, and the dumplings are larger than average, so even though the prices seem average, it's actually a good deal. Dumplings are 3 for $1.60. * Har gow - Decent, a little salty. They use big shrimp. * Congee - They only have one kind and one size (huge). It's pork with preserved egg. There isn't much egg or pork. Bland. They don't add scallions. You can buy a fried donut though. Good Luck Dim Sum still has the best congee for a dim sum take out place in SF. * Pork spareribs over rice - I thought that the sparerib flavor and juice would have seeped into the long grain rice but that didn't happen. The rice was mushy and oversteamed. They added boiled cabbage and drizzled the rice with soy sauce. The ribs were good, a little fatty but that's to be expected. Overall, it was just okay. The menu is in Chinese, so you either have to point to what you want or know what it's called. They have a massive inventory of items - dumplings, lots of man tou (steamed buns), rice noodles with different fillings, Chinese tamales, egg rolls, sesame balls, baked sausage buns, grass jelly, turnip (or it could be taro) cake, egg custard tarts (including a white kind), chicken feet, sticky rice wrapped in a lotus leaf and more. Things look greasy. The woman who helped me does speak English but I'm not sure how well she speaks it. You can eat it there if you want. I agree with L. W.'s review from 7/20/19. If you go to this place, pay close to the bill to avoid getting ripped off. If you cannot read Chinese to see how much everything costs, you could easily get cheated. I don't know if the woman I dealt with was the owner or not. I ordered five items and was told the total was $33.40. I thought it was high, and asked what the total was again. She repeated the amount and showed me the calculator with the total. I gave her one $20 bill, two $5 dollar bills and four $1 bills. She counted the bills and I told her to keep the $.60 change. I left, but returned 10 minutes later because I could not believe the bill could be that high. I went back to the woman I spoke to earlier and told her I thought I was charged too much. I told her my order and she said that should be $17. I said I gave her $34. She insisted that I could not have been charged that much. Then she looked at the cash register receipt and said that there was no record of a $33.40 entry. I insisted in broken Chinese that I gave her $34. She finally gave me back $15. Other customers were in the store and heard all of this. I doubt she would've given me back my money if people weren't in the store. I know now that I should've asked her to total my purchase again before I left the store the first time, but I did not. I would believe that this was an honest mistake if there was an entry of $33.40 in the cash register. Entries from an earlier sale could've been mixed up with my purchase , bringing the total to $33.40. But since there wasn't such an entry, that means she didn't put the entire amount that I gave her in the register. I was going to give her the benefit of the doubt, but since reading that I'm not the first one that this happened to, I think it should be brought to people's attention. Recently came to Mongkok of 2438 Noriega Street to buy some of my most favorite dim sum items but it has been a while since, I have not been here to buy some of the dim sum items from MongKok... Until last week, I finally had the chance to come back to MongKok Dim Sum.... The dim sum items which, I have bought from Mong Kok were really good and tastly... The dim sum items which, I have bought was a big sized Sticky Rice with beef & pork wrapped in a lotus leaf and two types of Siu Mai's one of the Siu Mai's was a regular and the other siu mai which, I dont see to often at some Dim Sum places that sells this kind of Siu Mai that has shrimp on top of it... Mong Kok had it and I bought it immediately they had alot of other good tasting dim sums... I have lived in the neighborhood for more than 20 years and I don't come here that often. Their shrimp and pork dumplings don't taste fresh. But I do come here when I want to have pork porridge and Beef Cheung Fun (Rice Noodle Roll) for breakfast. That is what I got this morning. Here is the disgusting part. In the porridge, I finished 3/4 of it already, something tasted wrong. I spit it out in the sink, it appears to be hair roll up with more disgusting things. It looks just like the dirt ball on the mop after you clean the floor. It feel so disgusting because I chew on it. I immediately brush my teeth but still feel so dirty. I don't understand how could it be mixed into that big pot of porridge. Did they use the mop for the floor to clean the kitchen countertop? Favorite dim sum place in SF. I always come here when I visit SF. The food is amazing. We get these beef rice rolls, shao Mai, and sometimes soy milk. Delicious and pretty cheap in my opinion. Good social distancing. Two customers inside while others wait outside. This is always my go to place for takeout dim sum. We always get a dozen or two of the baked small pork buns (yummy, ratio of meat to bun is wonderful; we're meat eaters), a dozen of pork sui mai with a shrimp on top, Chinese chive dumpling with shrimp, Chinese donut, egg rolls, etc. It appears I have no will power. My eyes say buy, buy, buy. I buy for two and spend around $60. Just a FYI, we don't eat everything all at once. I freeze some of the pork buns for future treats.
