The food was fantastic and four star worthy...the service was horrible. The two tables near us were not immediately cleared and it took a good twenty minutes before someone attended to them.. I get that we may have come in right before closing but still we don't want to see dirty dishes and glasses while we eat. Had reservations for almost a month for anniversary. Anniversary was never mentioned and seating choice was sharing a bench with someone else or a high table, with extremely uncomfortable chairs. My husband never received his soup he ordered. My meal was served in a broken dish. Ordered the dessert special and they didn't have it, though it was all over social media and on the nightly menu. My soup was very good. Only one other restaurant has been better to me(I try a lot of places). My husband has 6 French oysters and 6 New Orleans. I don't like oysters lol but he thought they were delicious. For dinner I ordered the salmon and portobello ravioli. That sauce is to die for! Such a great dinner. Wow! This place was an unexpected delight! I had the filet mignon, which was a special for the evening. The meat was so tender, it melted when you cut through it. This restaurant is very nice- charming, well decorated, and fun. I was also impressed by attentive service, and i was seated upon arrival at the time for which I had a reservation. I enjoyed an interesting appetizer with an unusual flavor combination, and a nice glass of wine, but the entrees were not great. I had something described as a raclette (but with provolone instead of raclette) with steak. It was OK, but the steak was pretty flavorless. Another in my party got a ravioli in a cream sauce (I know...Italian food in a French restaurant...) and it was super bland without much at all in the way of flavor. Bonus- the requested salt came in a really cool little bowl set! Overall, this probably would have been a three-star review, until I got home and noticed the "non cash adjustment" charge on my receipt a couple of weeks later. "What is that!?!" I asked. As if to answer, I saw a bunch of small type at the bottom of my receipt which is supposed to explain its "purpose"- but I think I already know what its purpose is. It's to screw me out a few extra bucks without my noticing, for the crime of not carrying hundreds of dollars in cash with me, and using that to pay the bill- this place is pretty pricey for sure. The charcuterie tray was fabulous and filling. Their bacon fig jam served with cheese was incredible. After two of us finished the charcuterie there was not much room for anything else but a salad which was one of the best I have ever had. I came here this evening and let me tell you how great it is. It's a small and quaint place in Exeter. The establishment is spotless with adorable European decor. The servers are extremely friendly and checked up on me often. They cleared my dishes every time another dish came out or saw that I finished whatever plate I was eating from. I believe I might have met the owner also and she was very professional. The food is amazing! I've never sat down to eat all my food and order dessert on top of it. I had the French Riviera Crepé with salad on the side. I love the artichokes in the dish and the sauce. Their house bread comes with a dressing that's slightly sweet and delicious. This place is an absolute gem! We stepped in late on a Friday night (around 8) and were told the kitchen was closed. After asking if they were serving anything but appetizers (I'm lactose intolerant, and the appetizers were all cheese centric), the owner sat down and asked what we'd like from the kitchen and said she'd make it happen. This was hands down the best service ever, and the owner is the sweetest most accommodating lady! We were able to order the mushroom linguini with salmon, peaches and burrata salmon salad, escargot, lavender brie, lavender cheesecake; the owner was very helpful in recommending dishes in which the cheese could be removable or substituted. All the food was perfect! The pasta was so fragrant and creamy, the salad was super crisp and the house made balsamic is to die for. The star of the show was the house special lavender brie- I've never met a brie I've liked before, but this was AMAZING. It was creamy and lavender infused and slightly salty. I risked it all for this brie, and I'd do it again. The lavender cheesecake was also delightful and well worth the impending lactose intolerance- super fragrant, tart, light. Overall, the food here is fantastic. They have great appetizers, entrees, and desserts! It's evident that they care about the food/menus they produce and that their chef/s are talented. My partner also appreciates their beer list. The staff is friendly and our waitresses have always been helpful. One thing to note, they were pretty busy the last time we were there and it took a while to get our order. It wasn't a big deal to us but be prepared to wait if they are busy or have multiple big parties. Also, the protein you can add to their pastas have been a bit too salty for me and my partner. However, we use salt lightly in our everyday cooking. If this is you, perhaps watch out for this as well. Again, I cannot state enough how delicious their food is!! Their pear burger is out of this world! Final thing, the staff/employees do not wear masks. If this matters to you, be prepared for that. Enjoy the creme brulee! read more

I wanted to like Monet's more than I did. It's a charming, intimate little spot with a warm, welcoming ambiance. My group had reservations for 7pm on a Friday night; while the live music was appreciated, it was really difficult to hear the waitress and each other at times because of the musician and a large, rowdy party seated next to us. We probably should've followed the couple who came in before us who asked to be seated in the back room instead. Service here was the worst part of the experience. It ended up creating a two hour long meal that could've been over way faster than it ended. Our waitress, while nice, was aloof and seemed more concerned about sitting at the table and chatting with the large party next to us, which was a little weird. At first I thought she may have known them but realized quickly she was just keen on socializing with them (and ignoring everyone else). The complimentary bread is as good as others have said. It's warm, soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, and just very delicious. But unfortunately we only got to try a little bit of it because they were almost out when we got ours and were given table water crackers in addition to the bread to tide us over while they finished baking more. Which never came, even we asked the waitress for it, because she was too distracted by disappearing and then socializing with the party table when she eventually did reappear. My Monte Carlo Pasta was incredibly bland. It was supposedly fettuccine in a mushroom pesto with goat cheese, Roma tomatoes, and pine nuts, and while I can confirm that the pine nuts, tomatoes, and goat cheese were present, I can't vouch for their successful integration into the dish and wasn't able to taste much of anything from the overly thick and creamy pesto. The goat cheese was uninspiredly spooned onto the top of the pasta. At least I got a mountain of fettuccine, but a mountain of pasta that, for the first time probably ever, I didn't want to finish and got no enjoyment out of. Dessert was better, but only by so much: a slice of chocolate pecan pie infused with Jack Daniels, topped with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream. The ice cream was delicious but the chunks of ice in it that didn't want to melt weren't fun. Neither was the pie crust that couldn't be cut with the side of a fork because it was so hard. There was also a distinct lack of chocolate in anything but the first bite of pie, but overall it wasn't bad. But it wasn't great, either. It would also be a good idea if Monet's thought to make sure their bathroom wasn't out of toilet paper before people, you know, go into the bathroom and eventually need toilet paper. Also a good idea to let people know when the handle on the toilet has come completely off the tank and that the toilet can't be flushed unless you reach into the tank and pull up on the chain. I really don't think I can recommend Monet's. The service was poor, the food wasn't anywhere near as good as the prices they were asking might indicate, and the bathroom was unacceptable. One star for the ambiance, which is at least charming as you sit and wait for your food for a couple of hours. read more

We finally went to Monet's because I had a lot of coworkers recommending this place. We went on a Friday afternoon before they got busy. We walked in, no one greeted us, and we let them know we were going to sit outside. It probably took 10 minutes before anyone came out to give us a menu or ask about drinks. Bread with oil and vinegar took even longer to get. We asked at least two or three times for them to turn on the patio heater, and for more bread (which we never received). Our dinners were good but nothing praise-worthy or worth $30+ for one plate. There was enough to take home for leftovers, though. We also ordered dessert, which was by far the best part. By this point in the evening, they either felt guilty for neglecting us or were just trying to get us to hurry up and leave as two servers rotated every few minutes to check on us. By the end of our dinner, there were 2 or 3 parties waiting to be seated. Overall, it was a cute restaurant to experience, but I don't think we'll be going back anytime soon. read more

Service here is truly a hit or miss. I've been here about 4x times now and boy, tonight was a miss. It took about 10 minutes for them to give me a menu. There were two tables besides mine... one table of 4 and one table of 1. They sat me down and don't know why they couldn't just give me the menu then. I had to flag the waitress for a menu. Once I ordered, food came out fast. However, asking for dessert took about 15 minutes. All I asked for was a scoop of ice cream and their ice cream was already pre-Shaped / pre-scoop so I have no idea why it took them so long. I asked for more water and never got it. I asked for a check and it took another 15 minutes for them to run my card. The restaurant isn't that big and I just don't understand why it took them that long when there's two and a half (half is the male that came out to serve when I was already done for my meal waiting for a check). Besides the inconsistent service, food was excellent. Truly made to order and can be customized. The escargot was good but could use a bit of salt and the lobster bisque came out piping hot, which I love. I've order their pasta dishes before and they were good. The folks are really kind and they do their best to tend to you... but do know that pace of service can be unpredictable. Food is a mix of American French Italian which is a nice fusion of all. I haven't had anything I did not like. Sure, some I like more than others but really, you can't go wrong with any of them. Monet's is a true gem! All the stars aligned and led us to Monet's for our in town birthday celebration. We spent the day at Sequoia and were deciding between Monet's or another restaurant and actually went to the other restaurant first since it was more expensive. Big mistake on our part. We didn't realize racism still existed - Cafe Lafayette's petite hostess/waitress embodied everything that is wrong with the world today. So we took our patronage over to Monet's. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, everything was perfect. Monet's is intimate, warm, and inviting. We were greeted by a lovely lady with a big smile and beautiful live music. The restaurant is small but offers a very nice ambiance and food that rivals any restaurant in a major metropolitan city. Raymond played the clarinet for the whole time we were there - he has an amazing talent and gave us the best birthday serenade we've ever had. We ordered: 3 orders of the Japanese style oysters, 3 orders of the New Orleans style oysters, escargot, the 3 course dinner which came with spicy tuna stuffed mushroom salad, chicken entree with ravioli, and dessert, as well as the ribeye which was served with mushrooms and crispy fingerling potatoes and a starter salad, a few drinks, and the lavender cheesecake to go. The Japanese style oysters were sweet and refreshing and the New Orleans style was served hot with a nice breaded crust. The escargot was executed perfectly. The ribeye was of high quality and prepared right with even cooking throughout. We loved everything on this plate! The chicken and ravioli were amazing as well. Everything was delicious. I've eaten at Monet's a number of times, my first time dinning there was with a party of 10 in their back banquet room which could be the reason service and dinner was mediocre. Or at least that's what I'd like to believe because the following visits dinner and service was superior. I can't wait to return. Its a great place to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy some great food.
