The atmosphere is great especially if you love sports. The food was fantastic, I had the Chicken Parmigiana, it was possibly the best I've had. The other people in my party got Lobster Alfredo and loved it. One guy got a steak and was very happy. We got several appetizers and they were all great. And, the service was very good. I have to admit, this place kinda surprised me. I ran into a buddy while shopping on Westnedge and he wanted to grab a bite. I let him pick the place and Monelli's was the choice. He started to tell me where it was and I got a little skeptical. I hadn't spent much time on S Westnedge past Romence Rd and tried to change his mind. I'd actually seen this place before trying to turn around but dismissed it as a potential eating spot later. Partly because of the "Italian Grill & Sports Bar" name. Nothing against the Monelli name. Walking in the door made me start to feel better. Yes it's a sports bar with lots of large screen flatscreens, but it just feels more than that. Yes it's an Italian grill with lots of Italian options, but there was so much more on the menu. Appetizers, Salads, Soups, Pasta, Entrees, Burgers, Panini's, Subs and Wraps, Stromboli, Pizza, and a handful of desserts. I opted for a Cuban Sandwich Panini and was very happy. There were so many choices, but I just went Cuban in an Italian restaurant. LOL, completely across the Atlantic Ocean. My Panini was about $13 and came with some awesome handmade chips. My Bells Two Hearted Ale added a little more cost to dinner, but I was happy to spend that $20. Now I don't usually venture that far south, but if I do, you will probably find me here catching a beer and a game. read more

Let's put my picky flavor wife order up front and center- I did a double take when she said her sandwich, the Smoked Ham Ciabatta, was above what she expected and volunteered that it was pretty good. The Spinach Artichoke dip was way more than I thought would come from the kitchen. I am looking for a soup bowl size at best and this big ole thing comes out. I especially liked the cheese crushed top. Just enough salty touch to go with the dip and pita chips. Enough for 4 but my wife wanted space for her meal (the smart one), kid enjoyed a bit and other kid just don't like warm dip. The Chicken Piccata with huge capers was just popping with all kinds of flavor to include the broccoli and mash potatoes. My kid was just so glad to share a few taste of each on her plate. I was kinda stuff from the app and drink but dang it was good. The Chicken Parmesan was a good flavor as well but the chicken on the tough chewy side unlike the Piccata. Besides that, a completely different flavor profile but yet still good and well seasoned. The last l, my Blacken Shrimp Cavatappi. Still full but got a few bites in. This did not disappoint either. Once again a different flavor profile but not lacking in seasoning but could use a little more mushrooms. The YouTube guy flinging grains of Kosher salt does not work at Monelli's. read more

I accidentally ordered the wrong item for my daughter. I called to see if I could bring back the item and select the correct food item as my daughter is allergic to the food items on the sandwich. I was told since this was my fault, I would not be able to get another sandwich made for free and that I would have to purchase another sandwich. Seriously! The sandwich was not free! Super crowded... but the service was very good. They got us seated in no short order. I wish they'd had water on the table, but they did not. It took a bit longer than we'd have liked to get our drinks, but as I said the severs let us know what was going on timing-wise... so no real biggie. Got our bread which was excellent, wish there was way more of that... but that's because it was so good! We received more bread with our entrees. I got a steak and it was pretty good... I asked for med rare and got it a bit more done than I'd have liked. But I finished it... so that'll tell you how upset I was with it :-D. I had the cannoli and that was decent. Today for lunch the Pesto Panini and burnt chips. The menu says sliced grilled chicken. Out of courtesy to readers I didn't include picture of chicken I had to spit out due to gristle and unable to chew it. Some pieces so small it was hard to keep chicken on the sandwich. They tried to hide the chicken by utilizing extra greens. The waiter ignored the plate of semi chewed chicken beside me and pretended all was fine. When we needed more tea he literally took our used glasses off the table and into the kitchen to refill. BTW...it was raspberry tea that was ordered...not what came back out of the kitchen! Since the change in management this restaurant been steadily declining in quality and service. We won't waste any more money now hoping it gets better. read more

We enjoyed this place for our first visit. The chicken fettuccine Alfredo was a good portion size for both adult and kids, and very saucy, which I liked! Amelia our server was wonderful I tried the stromboli with sausage & mushrooms. The stromboli was large however the sausage was barely warm and the mushrooms weren't cooked. They were as firm as if I'd just picked them out of the fresh mushroom box. The stromboli came with chips (yep new to me too) and I upgraded to fries which were very good just weird having fries with a stromboli Hubby & daughter had the buffet. The ribs were a bit spicy, no pasta other than now tie pasta salad. Broasted chicken was good, soup was good, pizza was just ok. Been in Kalamazoo for work. Found out about Monelli's, thankfully!! M-anagement is outgoing and care about customer experience. O-ver the top service. N-ever had anything that didn't taste wonderful. E-xcellent selection of menu items. L-ove the bar staff. L-ove the draft beer selection. I-m trying to eat everything on the menu. Monellis could always be counted upon for good quality food, fresh salads in particular. Don't try any Caesar salads now though, they have gone to a shredded up bagged "romaine" that is pretty bad. Does not resemble a good romaine salad, and it has that bagged flavor which means it's been dipped/rinsed in a substance to keep it fresher longer. The lettuce looks and tastes that would be used for tacos, not for a nice fresh salad. My friend and I will be going to Texas Roadhouse instead, for fresher salads and our happy hours. It's a legit Italian sports bar. They have a superb rotating craft brew lineup. The service is prompt and consistently good. The fettuccine Alfredo is great, especially with blackened chicken. The mozzarella sticks are also some of the best I've had. I think they use to serve bread with a meal. Not sure if they do that anymore. read more

This is your typical sports bar. Random genres of music and sports on every channel. Loud atmosphere but still enjoyable because that's what you go here for! Food was largely portioned. I have provided pictures of the Italian Sub with chips and the Steak Salad with added Avocado. Yumm. Service was okay. The waitress knew we were waiting on two more people to join so she allowed the appropriate space until then. But, when our other guests showed and we had our food, she was a little hard to find. I had visitors in town and we decided to visit this new place. Initially it felt like any other sports bar, with big screens and many beer on tap options. We look at the menu and we saw the same options like any other pub place. Not many different options to try...so we went with the sampler. It had potato skins (which were really good), cheese fingers, and and chicken tenders. Then I ordered the pasta just to try something that I know. It was good. I went to Monelli's for the third time today with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary since this place was our new favorite. We loved their options of ciders on draft and the fettuccine alfredo was our favorite. Our visit today will keep me from going back there again. Our waitress (never got a name because she had a 3 second limit to be at our table) rushed us for no reason since the place was half empty. Brought us our drinks and we put in an appetizer and food order. Shortly after our appetizer comes out and then about a minute later our food came out. Slightly inconvenient but oh well. Since we were rushed we never ordered a second drink, it seemed pointless. A loss of business for them. After leaving the establishment, my boyfriend and I quickly felt ill with upset stomachs and ruined our anniversary day. The cider I got on draft tasted a little funky and the alfredo tasted a little different than normal. Not sure what made us sick but we will definitely not come back to find out. read more

Had dinner on a Sunday night. The parking lot looked like we would have a super long wait, walked in and sat immediately. Lots of TVs with football on, so sports bar - spot on. The menu had a lot of great Italian options. I ordered the salmon, but the description made it sound much better than it was. The salmon itself was great but the sauce and topping, meh. November 2018: Our food- and globe-trotting Yelp CA, Beth recommended Monelli's at an event a few months back. I was finally able to try it -holy Scooby snacks! Summed up simply: there are other Italian buffets in the GR/Kzoo area that are pumping out delicious, quality Italian food. There are Italian buffets that are also bigger. BUT -each dish I had at Monelli's was solid quality and absolutely scrumptious. As a low carb/keto eater, I was able to find enough food to eat. Confession: I ate 3 bites of Alfredo pasta, 3 bites of mashed potatoes, and 2 bites of cake. Okay, a little chicken Alfredo pizza too. I never waste carb bites, but the food was so good, I'll take the moment on my lips. Amazing Alfredo pasta and pizzaand I'm VERY picky), the potatoes were decadent, and the cake -don't even get me started on that dream cake with its light sponge texture, strawberries, and perfectly sweetened light and fluffy whipped frosting. If you're in the area, paying $9 to shove your face with that cake is worth it alone! read more

This is a convenient location right on Westnedge in Portage. The restaurant is clean a spacious. It is a sports bar so has a lot of tvs. I like the outdoor seating in warm weather. Salads are excellent and my husband likes the chicken Parmesan! read more

A friend of mine and I were brainstorming where to take the kids she babysits, ranging in age from 2nd grade to high school, for a reasonably priced lunch. Monelli's for the win! Not only did all ages of kids really enjoy the food, because it was served buffet-style they were able to try some new things they never had before. Turns out everybody is a fan of the lobster bisque, and even the second grader loved the Cajun chicken, although the spiciness was a touch much for her. Pasta and pizza buffets are a bit heavy for my diet, but the lunch buffet here really is a great place to take a group and know that there was something for everyone. PS one of the girls pointed out a pro tip: the ribs are so fall off the bone tender that you want to make sure you don't eat them over your desserts. She enjoyed her tiramisu cake even with a little bit of barbecue sauce on it though. read more
