Monaco Coffee has one of the best locations in Gastown, right at the beginning of the walk toward the famous Steam Clock. It's an inviting spot to take a break, especially after exploring the neighborhood. Inside, the café is cozy and welcoming, with large glass windows that let you enjoy the view of the streets outside. They offer a great selection of coffee and gelato, but what really caught my attention was their variety of cheesecakes. I ordered a latte and the blueberry cheesecake, and both were excellent. The cheesecake was creamy, rich, and not overly sweet--exactly the kind of dessert I enjoy. It paired perfectly with the latte. I visited on a rainy day, and the warm atmosphere made it the perfect place to relax before continuing my walk around Gastown. I would definitely recommend stopping by, especially if you're a cheesecake lover. I'll be back to try their gelato on a sunny day. read more

During our vacation in Vancouver, we came here twice... in the same day. The coffee here is truly lovely. We enjoyed breakfast and I opted for the eggs benedict with avocado and it was SO good. Monaco cafe is located in a convenient spot, walkable distance from the Gastown steam clock. The space is relatively big but very packed seating wise so it feels a little noisy. I ordered a beat latte and the cranberry pistachio tart. The tart was very delicious and a pleasure. I was shocked when I drank the beat latte to realize that it was literally just milk and beat powder, no espresso. After my barista friend told me that's what a beat latte is I accepted my fate. It would be nice to have that somewhere so that people know that it is just milk since a latte is usually referred to espresso but not always. Lots of cafes in this area are very cute but limited seating and tables that are too small to do work on. Stopped here for coffee on a rainy Monday. It was packed but we still managed to get a seat, though it wasn't comfortable. There was barely any space for moving around, as the seating here is cramped and not suitable for everyone, e.g. if you have mobility issues, you might find it hard to move about and find a comfy seat. Ordered a latte, it was OK. It was warm and not hot. I would normally ask for them to make me another cup but given that times are hard and I want to support local businesses, I didn't make a fuss. Currently, vegan options include almond or oat milk substituted in your beverage... an oat / cranberry dessert, or a bowl of tomato soup. Super limited... but, the choices are good. I love tomato soup. ‍ I don't usually go to a café to try the different desserts... so, having a solid staple is a good start. I only get the butterfly peaflower latte. Apparently, butterfly peaflower is pretty healthy. I don't like drinking caffeine drinks and this is straight-up flowers. The flavour is so nice, like a sugar cookie. Very tasty. The colour is astounding. Atmosphere is classic café; I love the wooden décor, the big table, and the various arrangements of seating for different group sizes from big to small. Service is average - good; Quality is average - good. Nothing to complain. The variety if product is good save for the lack of vegan options. Highly recommend. Really great haunt for the prospective ghoul. Subtracted two stars for limited options and also for the average quality. read more

Decent vintage hipster themed coffee shop. Parking here is pretty awful. The metered spots free up at 2200 though. The interior basically looks like they painted over the interior of a dumpy old building. Yes, this coffee shop takes up the famous (Flatiron style) wedge shaped part of the building. The seating is basically 1 large boardroom style table in the middle, with some smaller tables along the perimeter. The middle table can be good for groups. I didn't see any power sockets though. Staff are friendly and helpful. Got my coffee nice and quick. Tasted a bit burnt though. Knock 1 star off. Also got a kick out of their cute mini milk cream fridge. It's secured and screwed down. Guess too many people thought about walking off with it. read more

A cute little cafe in Gastown serving coffee, pastries and even gelato! I went there on a Monday after work, it was not that crowded and was easy to find a table for 2. I would say that the space is a little tight, so if you are looking to have a private conversation, this might not be the place. I got their Ferraro cream puff which was amazing!!! Super chocolatey and gooey on the inside but a little crispy on the outside. They also had a strawberry flavour which I was intrigued by. My friend got their 2 scoop gelato - mint and espresso on a waffle cone. The gelato was good :) however, my friend said that it made the waffle cone pretty soggy towards the end. Looks good from far, but far from good. The food .... All I had was the small donuts and they were not fresh and had no flavour. A serious disappointment. Especially after having local baking that was next level delicious. I also had a Spanish coffee which was new for me. It was not bad, but honestly, I won't be back. You can do better around here. Cafe with quite a lot of seating on the perimeter of Gastown. They have some interesting drinks not seen elsewhere like a blue matcha latte and pink latte. They also have a good selection of pastries. The savoury items are limited and they only have a basic croissant for croissants. Also, many pastries were sold out by the afternoon. The staff, while friendly enough, are not very good at their job. They could not tell us what a blue matcha latte was or what was in it. They also repeatedly got our pastry order wrong to the point we had to ask them to fix it three times. They also told us they didn't have any left of an item when they had multiple left. While the drinks and food are decent, correcting the staff over and over and the staff not knowing their products is a major turn off when there are so many cafes to choose from. read more

We also ordered the roast beef sandwich, which was cold when we got it. The roast beef sandwich also came with one pringle chip and like a half of a cracked one. I should've took a picture of that, but we were kind of just shocked by it, to be honest. The service was good. There was a language barrier, so definitely some miscommunication and misunderstanding, but they were nice overall. The bread was hard like croutons, not sure if it's supposed to be served like that since I'm not from this area... The mocha was good. I think if I got their pastries, then I would've been satisfied but I got their food because I came in during breakfast time in the rain and didn't want something too sweet and wanted something warm. If you like your tomato soup without cheese or cream, then you will like it. If you like it more on the orange side, you should probably order something else. It had good flavor, but again, didn't have any cheese or cream. They also said we couldn't do take out for the soup because it was hard to pack or travel with, so I asked if I could just get the mocha to go and they put it for here. Again, I think there was just some miscommunication because of the language barrier. The ambiance is nice. Feels like somewhere you would study if you want some peace and quiet. Super cozy cafe with strong, reliable wi-fi! Latte was excellent, London fog was pretty standard. Monaco made for a very comfortable retreat from the rain while my partner and I were visiting Vancouver. Would definitely return next time we're in Gastown. read more

Came here when it was Buro and didn't love it, but the location is convenient, some decided to try again. I don't know if this is just a change of name rather than management because it has barely changed. Service is still terrible; only 2 people working on a busy Sunday and neither had much attention to detail. Lukewarm latte and baked goods that have been refrigerated. My friend asked for a coffee 'for here' and got a coffee in a takeout cup. They didn't bother to call her, so it just sat there until she went up and asked for her coffee. The guy preceded to show his irritation at being asked to do his job and just poured the coffee in a cup and hand it to her. No apology for their mistake or a fresh coffee. Tables weren't being cleaned and I saw several customers clean the tables themselves (including myself). There are far better coffee shops nearby. Nothing could make me go back there. read more
