Momo Corner located along Baldwin St. near Spadina Ave in Kensington Market serves up a variety of Himalayan dumplings. The store is small and primarily take out only although there is some seating indoors and outdoors. They do make their dumplings there in store and there are a variety of momos to choose from...the classic steamed momo to butter chicken momos. They also have a small selection of lassis as well to go with your momos. I decided to stop by Momo Corner on a weekday for lunch. Service was friendly and I opted to get the steamed beef momos (8 momos with a side salad for $12) and a mango lassi. The beef momos tasted great, the wrapper was the right thickness and the seasoning of the beef was delicious. The side salad was a nice touch which cleansed the palate. The momos came with 2 sauces, one which was quite spicy. The mango lassi was nice and thick, the perfect drink to cool down the spiciness of the sauces. I decided to have my momos at one of the tables outside. The portion was enough for me for lunch and I was full afterwards. Overall, delicious momos in Kensington Market, however, the price is a bit more expensive than other momo places in the city. If you are craving momos around this area though, this is the place to go!

Butter Chicken Momos (chicken) & Jhol Momos (beef)

Tucked away in Kensington, this hidden gem is overlooked for their momos as they have quickly become one of my favourites in Toronto. As a sauce lover, I normally get my momos in a type of gravy (i.e. the Jhol Momos). The first time I tried, I was pleasantly surprised by the price as several restaurants sell sauce momos for much more or with fewer pieces at the same price. The flavour of the jhol gravy was delicious and contained onions that paired nicely with it. The portion is generous as each piece is fairly big. I returned to try their butter chicken momos and was again won over by the flavours. The slight tanginess of the butter chicken sauce and the creaminess added a great texture (typically I'm wary of butter chicken in places that don't specialize in the dish since it can come off as watery or way too sweet). I've since visited a few times and it keeps well for take-out. There are limited seating with only one corner table inside and 2 small outdoor tables.

We went at an off-hour and tried the butter chicken momos. They make and cook them right in front of you. The momos were pretty big and the filling was delicious. The butter chicken sauce was quite tasty as well. Definitely filling! Service was pretty quick. Just be mindful that there isn't much seating inside.

Overall very flavourful, besides the hot sauce which was mostly spice with no taste. Was expecting fresh momo, not frozen.

This is a small Tibetan themed restaurant near downtown and the food is exceptional. We arrived at…read morelunch hour on a Saturday, and the place was slowly filling up. By the time we left, there was waiting to get a table. And for a good reason. The food is exceptional, got the tandoori chicken momo, chicken lollipop and Himalayan special fried rice. Everything was amazing. The lollipops are killer, highly recommend them but you can't go wrong with any of the dishes. Will definitely recommend this place. We also had the tamarind mojito which was so good and refreshing.

They have a very extensive menu with plenty of options. We ordered steamed chicken momo, chicken curry, mutton thali, sha baley, and kurkure momo. Total after fees and tip was $125. It's a lot of food. We weren't able to finish it all. The steamed momo was very good. That was probably the favorite. However the choice for filling of the momos is limited. You only have chicken or veggie. Seeing order photos of menus from two years ago they used to offer beef Himalayan momos. The chicken curry was very filling! But it made a bit of a mess. Packaging could be improved. The mutton thali was well received. The components were packaged separately. So some assembly is required. The yogurt is sweet. The kurkure momo was very crispy and fresh. But all of the sauces (3 or 4) included were spicy. I would have liked a mild option. It's a little too dry to eat without a sauce. The sha baley is a bit like an empanada. It was very good. They're quite big. I'd say each one was the size of my hand. Very filling. They came in a paper bag. It's pretty tasty food with a good value!

Mixed feelings about their momos. (Pan fried beef momos & steamed chicken momos)…read moreHave to tell you first, I only had momos for take-out. So my review is quite limited... Loved the wrapper's texture and favour. Not too thin, not too thick. Hand pleated. Nice pure wheat-y flavour. No machine made tastelessness nonsense, which I really appreciated! But the fillings were under-seasoned, felt dry and bland to me. And many of the momos came with their wrappers torn - which may explain their dryness. When waiting for my order, I enjoyed its atmosphere - the unassuming outlook and hippy-way interior, very Kensinton-like place! May be better suited for eat-in, to feel the total ambience to boost my food experience.

Our server was excellent giving us an overview of their signature dishes such as Thenthuk (Tibetan noodle soup) and Tingmo (steamed bread) and these two items go perfectly together...loved it! We also had their Cajun-chilli beef Momo (dumplings) which was delicious. I enjoyed almost all the dishes but I wasn't a huge fan of their steamed chicken Momo as the skin was a bit thick and the meat was a bit dry in the dumpling...probably better if it was deep fried. And I must mention their Chili Chicken was a bomb. And the prices were very reasonable ranging from $13 to $15 per dish. For the four of us, the total bill was $82 including taxes for 4 main dishes, an appetizer and 2 smoothies. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and we'll definitely be back!

Food 4/5 Service 4/5…read moreAmbiance 4/6 Food: We ordered the meat platter, salmon momo half plate, & sho-go momo. For dessert we had the deep fried banana. Everything was delicious & freshly made. We really liked the sho-go momo (potato & onion). The deep fried banana is good too. Not too much batter which I liked a lot. I would definitely eat here again. Service: It's a little slow because there are only two people running the restaurant when we visited. They both were doing the cooking & serving. Hubby & I didn't mind because we weren't in a hurry. I think they should have some waitstaff to help them out. Ambiance: It's a clean restaurant. There are prayer flags strung up from the ceiling. The music they play sounded like monks chanting. It's a very relaxed vibe. On a hot summer day it was nice, breezy & cool inside. It felt nice at first but I started getting cold after a while. Their bathrooms are in the basement & we're also clean. The ceilings are a little low in the basement so you have to watch your head. All in all it was an enjoyable lunch. My favourite was the sho-go momos (potato & onion).

Food: 3 Stars Service: 3.5 Stars…read moreAmbience: 3 Stars Fill Factor: Satisfied Each time I wander Greek town and see this place I promise that I would try it next time as I am a big fan of all sorts of dumplings. Well today I finally decided to make good on that promise and while I was not blown away it was a positive experience overall. The first thing I noticed about the menu was how many momo options were available. A lot of different choices from your basic chicken/beef/pork to butter chicken momos so lots of options. I ended up just getting a half plate of steamed pork momos along with the chilli chicken. The momos were pretty average in terms of taste even when I used the sauces provided. Perhaps the fried version would have been better but I definitely was underwhelmed with this one. As for the chilli chicken, the flavour was decent and for those who love saucy dishes like me this one is not saucy at all. I asked for a 5-6 on a scale of 10 for spiciness and it definitely had a bit of a kick but nothing too spicy. In terms of taste it was decent however I found the chicken to be a bit on the dry side but not too bad. The folks there were super friendly and overall service was not bad. The food arrived quickly too which was a good thing as I was hungry. There was plenty of seating in the restaurant and it was spaced out nicely so it was comfortable to be in. There were a lot of cabinets with different items in them so it might be interesting to look around while you wait for your food. Overall, I enjoyed the visit and will definitely come back to try other items on the menu.
