We have no one to blame but ourselves for walking in, sitting down, ordering, eating, and then asking for the check - without looking at the price. When I took a few bites out of the Ramen, and ate one dumpling, I realized I made a mistake coming here they don't know flavor and I doubt they ever will, once the chef was made aware he decided to pick an argument with me and yell at me in front of everybody that was there and argue with me that I shouldn't have ordered it if I don't like it, which I only found out after I took a couple sips of the flavorless broth. The Ramen comes with two pieces of pork belly, which was all right some noodles, some plain broth, a decent Half egg, and chopped up scallions. Not worth the $25 they charge at all. Came back here last week for the first time in almost 2 years. We drove from Broward specifically to order my fave, the oxtail ramen. Unfortunately, as soon as we sat down we were told they were out of the oxtail ramen that night (which was weird because it was only 7pm on a Saturday, so it wasn't even late). To their credit, at least our server told us immediately and did not waste our time by waiting until after we ordered. We decided to leave. But that isn't the reason I'm lowering my rating of Momi to 3 stars from my previous 5 stars. The reason I'm lowering my rating is because while there, I looked at the menu (I was considering ordering something else) and noticed they increased the prices to $39!!!!! For ONE bowl of ramen!!! I already had a very hard time justifying the high prices here when they charged "only" $28, but I was able to do so b/c the portion was large, it's overpriced b/c Brickell, it's fresh, oxtail is expensive blah blah. But now I simply cannot justify paying $40 for soup no matter how good it is. Before, b/c of the price and the distance, I put Momi in the "I only go for special occasions" category. But now I would not come here even for special occasions b/c it's simply not worth the cost. It pains me to say this but despite this being the best ramen I've ever had, I highly doubt I will ever return. Momi please consider drastically lowering the prices. MOMI may translate to "changing" in English, because MOMI Ramen changes the menu every four months or so, as well as the surroundings. As of the date of this review, salads, gyozas and pork feet are offered as appetizers and five types of tonkotsu ramen are served, which include the following: chopped braised pork (chashu), pork belly, wild mushrooms, oxtail, and ground pork with takana. The tonkotsu ramen prepared at MOMI is made of pork leg bones, and cooked for several hours. The result is a milky white broth that MOMI cooks to perfection. When I first tried it, I just didn't know how the broth was made and it truly blew my mind away. I figured, tentatively, that pork was used because of the consistency of the broth, but I had no idea whatsoever and was quickly obsessed to find out what the ingredients were. I later researched ramen, because I was a little bit addicted to the stuff, and found out the procedures and types of ramen... in detail, I may add. My favorite ramen to have at MOMI is the pork belly ramen. I like to let the fatty meat cook in the steaming hot broth while I eat the noodles, slurp the broth or try to catch one of the tiny hot peppers that spice things up. The aroma of the broth is intensified by the use of sesame seeds and other herbs. By the way, if you eat the pork belly at the very beginning, you may eat a more compact and firmer meat, which I don't mind, my preference is for the meat and the fat to become almost jelly after simmering in the broth, since pork belly doesn't get tough like meat, but almost dissolves due to the fat content. For a more distinctive and exotic flavor, you may want to try the wild mushrooms ramen. Not sure if only the mushrooms give that much flavor to the broth, but they certainly change things around. The broth becomes a bit sharp and dry, if I can use liquor and wine terminology. It is not a vegetarian dish (pork legs on broth) but it feels like one. The chashu ramen is also good, with the main variation being the meat and a slight difference in the overall taste of the soup. Chashu is the more traditional form of tonkotsu ramen, as far as I know. Finally the takana ramen, which uses ground pork and takana, a Japanese herb that is supposed to have medicinal powers and that is widely used in Japanese cuisine. I found all this out from talking to the staff, which speak very little English, but like I said, I was obsessed and curious. On the tables, there are some spices and some hot pepper condiments, but really you want the red peppers in oil that are served with the bowl of ramen. Pick a couple, crush them with your spoon or chopsticks and slurp some broth or eat some noodles. Traditionally, Japanese establishments like MOMI Ramen are solely dedicated to ramen and gyozas, in other words, one goes with the other. If you stop by, the more sensible thing to do would be to order some gyozas, which, according to some of my eating companions, are the best they have ever had. These gyozas are the more traditional type, with garlic, and the difference in ingredients is felt. I like the more light ones without garlic, but still, these gyozas are big and tasty. Visiting MOMI Ramen is always a blissful experience. Meditation sounds are always playing while you observe the universe before you in a bowl of ramen and you inevitably find perfection that only one higher being has been able to achieve, and majestically bestowed on us.
