What happens is that we were all mesmerized by the different meats on display made out mouths water for more of this Dominican Puerto Rican hybrid of foods. Our waitress kept a smile her face, and explained the menu. We looked over the very extensive menu. Best choice was the whole roasted chicken shared by all of us. White rice and yellow rice accompanied with beans which were "eh" There is a "check in offer" glass of cold wine, however with an entrée. The fried green plantains so tasty had an uber crunch. Just ordering a whole chicken is considered one entree. Only one of us was able to get the wine. She forgot to bring the empanadas. Boo. I used the Tabasco sauce in combination with the vinaigrette sauce over my chicken gave it an interesting kick. M.R. sits right outside Yankee stadium nearby the trains. M.R. is a great place to go before or after the game at least you don't have to spend $22,000000 on a burger or what seems to be one at Yankee stadium. read more

I ordered the avocado salad and a Cuban sandwich, but they were out of avocados. So they brought me a lettuce and tomato "salad". Shredded iceberg and two slices of tomato. WEAK. But okay, Molino Rojo isn't a California salad joint. The sandwich was pretty solid. Big, cheap, and loaded with roast pork, ham, and trace amounts of cheese. (No pickle, and no mustard, but nonetheless tasted great with a little hot sauce.) My only complaint would be a few pieces of the roast pork were a little dry, but otherwise a great bite. I was going to the Mets Yankees game with my Dad last night and figured we'd get a bite at this restaurant because I wasn't in the mood for ballpark food. Granted it was extremely busy being it was a game night and I ordinarily would give the benefit of the doubt but they had only one server with every table full. It took almost 30 min to place out order as the waitress thought I had something else when I said we were ready to order and to walk by us like 750 times without taking our order. Finally I stopped her and she apologized that she heard me wrong. Fine no problem. We place our order and another 20 min go buy and no food. Now what u have to understand is almost all the food on the menu is already cooked and behind the counter in trays so it should've been superfast. We ordered empanadas, rotisserie chicken, pork shoulder and rice and beans. Finally the empanadas come out and they were good so I had hope the food was worth the wait. GUESS AGAIN! At this point I'm still mad that our entrees weren't out when we've been there almost an hour. I complained to the waitress and she finally comes out with my plate and the chicken was like a dried out piece of shoe leather. I took one look at it and I flipped out at the nerve of trying to serve something that didn't even look edible. I had enough and paid for the empanadas and beer and proceeded to leave despite the waitress trying to say she'd bring me a different piece. Forget it at this point. My Spanish is horrific but my Dad had a pretty much heated exchange with the manager in Spanish as there was a def language barrier. He basically told him it was an insult to try and serve customers food like this and we left. No one should eat here ever. So I'm pretty familiar with Molino Rojo, I lived in the area for a bit now. It's honestly not my go to spot for Dominican/ Puerto Rican food. Food isn't horrible by any means. Just not my go to spot. Mainly because of pricing: for arroz con pollo, you could walk outta there spending $10. For breakfast you could drop $10 on mangu, queso frito and some salamis. The food will be okay but you can get the same or better quality food in the heights for about half the price and there's even a place about 3 blocks up where you can get dinner and breakfast for $6 out the door. Like it's not a bad spot, if you're with a friend, you and the person you're with can honestly split a meal which helps a lot with the pricing but you're still working with average food and the meal you're splitting could be still be cheaper elsewhere. I'm sure the pricing has a lot to do with location being their proximity to both the train and Yankee Stadium but that's not our fault. read more

Being from Chicago, and experiencing different cuisines, This is the real Stuff!! It might not have linen cloth table covers, sterling silver flatware or that signature service, but it's as authentic as you can get to a frutterria. I've traveled to the Carribean over a dozen times and after visiting Yankeee stadium we came across this place. It's just a short walk and definitely worth the trip. We stopped in for some Cafe con leche, and bought some alcapurrias, papa relleno, and some sancocho. We did not eat there as we were going to visit family In the Bronx and decided to bring them these great treats. Everyone loved the food!! They do have a variety of food and desserts to pick from and there was a line at the door just to order. Will definitely make sure to stop and eat here again at our next trip to Yankee Stadium. read more

Came in ordered, the server acted like she was funny when we complained about our food. She took so damn long over 30 mins to bring a simple coffee to the table. Food taste great. Small shop with everything you need. Its in a great location, near the train station. They have a lot of variety there from the Dominican. The server suggested there traditional whole roasted chicken dish with plantains. It came with beans and rice on the side. The chicken was actually really juicy and tasted really good!! First and Last. This place is very unsanitary. At glance, the first thing you see is a B rating in their front window. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, as it was full with baseball fans and families waiting for the Yankees game. The entire meal was COLD and I am not talking about my plate but also the plates of eight of my family members. We ordered pork, and we got a big piece of fat that nobody would eat. The Rice tasted like it was done the day before. The chicken was DISGUSTING with a PINK color and when I flipped it to the other side it had BLOOD. I usually grab a half roasted chicken and half pound of their roast pork (pernil) And either a small serving of plantains or rice and beans. My first experience with this place was 12 years ago working with a Spanish interpreter at the court. Now every time I am in the Bronx I stop by to grab a bite. Fisrt off let me start out by saying, the tostones and pasteles are muy sabroso. Forget about the soups and rice. Portions are ginormous, usually can't finish it but take leftovers. Whenever i'm in this area for Bronx Housing/Family/NYCHA court i always walk over to Molino and get a wonderful meal. Its not a 4 star meal, its not the best service ever, but the food and value are both fantastic. Plus its a real gem in an area with a real dearth of quality restaurants. They give you toasted buttered bread when you sit down which is nice, and they have cold water jugs with ice on each table, which is convenient. I almost always get the Pernil (roasted Pork) with rice and beans. The skin is really crispy, not to much fat (just the right amount), the pork is lean and tender and perfectly cooked. Its served with lime which is a great touch, and often with garlic and oil on the side. There is also great hot sauce on all the tables so you don't have to ask for it, another nice convenient touch. The prices are crazy cheap. For the bread, pork, rice and beans (which are perfectly cooked and seasoned, aside from needing a bit of hot sauce) it cost around $8. I also enjoy the empanada's, but they are pre fried and sit for a while under the hot light, which is not ideal for fried food in my opinion. Great place, well worth a visit if you are in the area. I hear there is a sports stadium of some kind just down the block, but on the days where they have their sports exhibitions the lines are way to long to bother. Highly recommended! read more

Yes, let's employ that saying here! What Molino Rojo lacks in glitter & gold it makes up for in comfort & taste. The staff is friendly and fast paced. There are lots of people bustling about as it is one of the closest spanish joints near the infamous Yankee Stadium. They serve everything from Breakfast to Dinner. I see all races step in to sit in eat after a game. Even though it's a Spanish restaurant the crowd from the stadium gives it serious diversity. The food is spectacular. Always fresh because they're always busy. They have the best porkchops in town! Juicy, succulent and crisp. The Pernil is flavorful never dry. They even find a way to make the plain white rice taste great. The Beans no matter the color (Red, Black or Pink) are always great. They have Modongo, Sanchocho etc. Always made daily. If you've ever taken a peek into the kitchen you'll see the Chefs are all older spanish men and women. They have a good variety of postres, Tres Leche, Flan, Carrot, Chocolate, Coconut Cakes. They make all Spanish drinks. Morir Soyando is pretty good, not the best but good. I have been coming to this restaurant for years and the only thing I can recommend is the Cuban sandwich and the octopus salad. I had a groupon for this restaurant recently and the only restriction stated was "not valid for sea & land menu or lobster mofongo". Needless to say that we tried to order lobster in garlic sauce and they first told us that we cannot order that item as per the groupon (not true). Then I showed them the groupon and they said they would honor our orders. Then they came back and said they don't have lobster. How convenient!!! They do not care about customer satisfaction or honoring groupons as stated. Their food is not all that but this was my chance to try something different from the menu, failed attempt! Don't waste your time unless you want a Cuban sandwich or an octopus salad. They should not make a groupon if they do not plan to honor it as stated and have staff lie about the availability of lobster just because they don't want to honor it. Recommended to us by a local bartender after a Yankees game (2 blocks away). Looks like an old school Spanish bodega, counter seats and tables. All the classic dishes and pretty good mango-tasting homemade sangria. Food was good, we had paella (which took a long time to be prepared for some reason) and chicken with rice. Good place to go if you're hungry after a game and prices were good. But there's better Spanish food out there.
