Haven't been to this location in a minute, so I don't know when they changed the interior but I like it. It looks very clean and classy. I decided to stop by for happy hour and found happy hour menu is ok, I've seen better and the main dish I had wasn't even on the list. If one thing I've learned about dining in Mama Sushi establishments, is that they all seem to have their own exclusive Happy Hour deals. I decided to try some wings and a classic mojito and get a main dish from the regular menu. The service was provided by a gentleman at the bar where I decided to sit. He made my drink well. He suggested the wings and a good recommendation. They were excellent! The Mamasushi Harlem roll I ordered was also delicious. My overall experience would be an upgrade to four stars, It had a different vibe to the place, and along with some new additions that I have never seen on the menu, I really had no complaints. I'm giving a thumb up! Happy Yelping! read more

This place is always delicious. I like to get their teriyaki chicken with rice and they have a huge variety of sushi rolls. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, fun vibe, and outdoor seating - but the price is a bit extreme for what you get. read more

If you ever find yourself craving the intoxicating vibes of San Juan's La Placita, look no further than the unlikely next to last stop on the A train, as Dyckman Street can deliver the same energy on a warm summer night. And if you need a specific destination to sit down for dinner there, Mama Sushi is your best bit. The over-the-top birthday party antics and large TV screen might suggest a clubby venue with overpriced mediocre food, but in fact the Dominican takes on sushi here are well executed. They custom made me a delicious vegetarian roll with all the typical accompaniments of mangu, including rich chunks of queso frito and avocado. read more

The place is easily found. Decor is nice. This was my first time in this location. I was visiting family members and decided to try a Dominican Twist. We were a group of 9. We had to wait a bit but the staff was accommodating. They have an enclosed outdoor area which should have provided a bit of shielding from freezing cold when door opened. But the outside door was left opened every time someone walked in and we were freezing every time the doors opened. Owner should invest in adding a spring on first door that can close it shot after customers arrive and before it reaches next door. This can keep freezing cold out more. I liked that menus are on iPad and everything has pictures, which is Very nice and helpful. We ordered lots of food to share as I wanted to try a lot. We tried: Japanese Shrimp tempura bento box; Chicken fried rice; Pork fried rice; Yuca frita; Mexicano roll; Merengue roll; La chapiadora roll; and El conuco roll. The shrimp tempura was done to perfection. The fried rice was not bad. It was a bit dry almost as if it had been reheated but it had good flavor. I was surprised it was so little. The Conuco roll and chapiadora we didn't like much. But we liked all the other ones. One thing I didn't like was that some of us wanted water and the waitress opened bottles of water that cost $8 each without asking us and we never said the water needed to be bottled. I felt like this was a bit inconsiderate of her not to ask first if it needed to be bottled. I stopped her but she had already served 2. Another table next to us said she did the same to them. You never know what financial situation someone has. And if they are making a sacrifice to enjoy this food but don't want to spend $8 on water. The bathrooms were cleaned and unisex however none of the doors locked so people kept trying to open the doors while you are in it. A lock is such an easy thing for something so important they should invest on it. read more

I mean I don't even know what to say... this place was down right amazing. It's a perfect blend of Dominican food and Asian food, great for a night where you can't decide what you want to eat! The servers were great, very polite, and sitting outside was a nice experience. read more

We were staying at an Air BNB nearby and decided to order sushi from here To Go. I thought the fusion thing sounded cool but in this case, it's not. I was disappointed in my food and I was really sad about it. Maybe if we actually ate AT the place and ordered some drinks and maybe get into the vibe? It looked and sounded like a cool spot to dine. Unfortunately, from this small sample, I would pass. read more

I would like to preface this by saying that my partner and I have been ordering from and dining at this Mama Sushi for years, and the experience has ranged from okay to enjoyable - until last night. The service was REPREHENSIBLE the entire night, in every imaginable way (including messing up our order and constantly disappearing on us). The lychee mojito, usually delicious, was undrinkable. The yellowtail roll was inedible. The vegetables in the crazy vegetable roll (which I have been ordering for years) had no tempura. And the wait was long. Only the chicharron and teriyaki chicken didn't suck. Congratulations- you have lost two frequent customers. Why would we EVER spend money here again? It's NOT cheap. Not worth it. read more

Dominican Republic meets Japan. Asian Latino fusion Tamiko is Japanese for friendly. Arigato. The options were extensive as seen in the menu. The preparation was with care as reflected in the taste. My palate was fancied. We started with two appetizers and a roll each. So many options; a process to decide. We must return to savor the additional flavor combinations. read more

I finally got to try Mama Sushi and was very pleased with my experience. Although the prices are steep, the food is very tasty! I love the modern twist of Japanese and Latin fusion. I love mama sushi and have been a loyal customer for quite some time! I visited today, to be told that happy hour has been removed, even though it is still on the website and on the physical menu!! totally okay for happy hour to be removed but it should be removed from your website and physical menu! it is completely misleading and very upsetting. I still ordered my food but was led to believe that I would be charged my typical happy hour prices and ended up paying double without being informed. Very disappointing experience! read more

I'm not a huge fan of Spanish food, nor hookah. But this spot was very nice. I went here on a date and had their lamb chops, steak sushi rolls, and hookah. This mam sushi doesn't compare to the one in the Bronx. The octopus was over cooked, the lamb was fatty and the steak was also fatty I had high standards for this location since i know it is one of the original locations. Unfortunately the food was not as good and the seats was too close to others for my liking. This spot allows hookah in the restaurant. The food took long to come out. However, we decided to get a lychee drink and i must say it was delicious. We also got dessert for the first time and tried the coconut flan and fried cheesecake rolls. Beat part of the meal. The waitress was nice and accommodating since one of our friends was Spanish speaking only. It was packed and if your driving I'm here please be advised parking is a b****. Chain is good otherwise since it has a nice mix of Spanish abs Japanese on their menu. Atypical sushi's with sweet plantain and lobster, steak. Great place to try if your interested in blended foods! read more

The only great thing they have and the reason why we always come back is their fusion sushis are extremely delicious and after you try them, you will from time to time crave some... but, the service at Mama Sushi is as awful as I remembered. I just keep forgetting about that huge detail but they always remind me while we are waiting for our food. The cooks are extremely slow, the waitresses are distracted and you have to constantly wave for them to give you their attention. But food is always great, tasty and the combinations are perfectly well paired. I'll try ordering to go or delivery next time because it's really not worth seating down and waiting 1 hour for your food while you're starving and appetizers take as much time as entrees. read more

Ever had a mix of Japanese and latin cuisine? Ever heard of it anywhere else? Ever been to mama sushi? If not you should come, your taste buds will thank you! The concept of their food is very flavorful and presentation along with combining the two very different cultures are very creative, all for a reasonable price. Their food is always consistent, I can confidently say their rolls strike the perfect balance between classic and bold. I am a sushi eater downnnn and can tell you this place has great sushi! My party and I came in as walk-ins on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated fairly quickly, after being asked if we wanted to smoke hookah or not (we chose the non-smoking side). The music volume was not too loud which allowed to speak over drinks. The table spacing is quite tight, but that's the norm in more restaurants nowadays. The gave us iPads for the menus but you still had to wait for the server to order your food and drinks. The food took pretty long to get to us. We had to ask a different server to please check on our food because it had been more than what felt like 20 minutes. The food was really good. I enjoyed eating the chicken bao buns and chicken chofan. The rest of my party agreed to having enjoyed their dishes as well. Everything you see in the pictures is all we got and that brought our check to somewhere close to $300. In my opinion that's super overpriced. Gratuity is included in the check! Just Incase your not one to check and then end up adding more. All in all, I enjoyed the music and drinks. Food took a little long to get to us, but it was good. Just a little too pricey for my liking. read more

I can understand slow service Friday night, Saturday's night maybe every Sunday. But on a Wednesday at 1 in the afternoon come on. The prices posted on their website are not the prices in the restaurant. It was my best friends birthday, and she wanted sushi. So we decided on this place because she loves them. Personally, I'm not a fan of sushi, but Latin fushion sushi i wouldn't mind. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, lots of fried dumplings. Duck and chicken, chicharron wonton tacos, a ribeye bento box that came with mashed potatoes, duck gyoza, and a California roll. Dusted coconut shrimp, and 6 sushi rolls, (which i cannot remember the name of). All in all, we had an amazing time. We also ordered the pitchers of patron margaritas for $60 each. They were a great deal for a table of 4. We left full and tipsy lol. The music was great, it wasn't too loud where we had to scream over each other to talk. The restaurant has an indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant itself is kinda small. But, we went pretty early and was seated right away. I would definitely come back here. The waiter was nice. We saw a Atlanta rapper having lunch and a friend who we haven't seen in a couple of years. My bestie enjoyed her meal and her day thanks to mamasushi. We will return again. Update 6/26/20 I ate here last night with a group of friends outside because of Covid-19 new guidelines. It was about a two hour wait and they don't serve the hookah outside right now which kinda sucked but hey it's the rules for now ! The edamame was really good and the fries were regular. The sushi was very good we had the mixed platter. The waiter said the platter came with the sushi on the menu with the longaniza but I didn't even see it in the platter so I was kind of mad. The chicken and pork dumplings were okay. The passion fruit mojitos were okay but too sugary in my opinion. I would have tried the margarita but the group wanted the pitchers. The service was SOOO slow !!!!! It was packed so I understand but dam lol!!!! I would come back possibly when the restaurant goes back to normal. P.S now I see why they include their own tip , they don't really pay attention to you but it's okay ! I'll probably try another restaurant on Dyckman next time. read more

I remember when this restaurant opened and how it was The Height's best little hole-in-the-wall sushi spot. Now? This restaurant has grown immensely and has even opened multiple locations. The growth of this place makes me so proud as a woman from the Caribbean, I had met the owner once upon a time & her passion for this restaurant was written all over her aura. Went to this lovely restaurant on a Sunday. Please do not drive there is no parking. I repeat just don't do it. This particular place is like a mix between Japanese food & Spanish food. My friend & I had the mini wonton tacos they were so tasty. Then I had the seafood salad it was so refreshing with the passion fruit mojito & this tamarind drink. Ask for that drink if you like tequila I love tequila. They also offer hookah which is a plus & there is outdoor seating. Lastly, I would note the decor is so nice & our waitress was on point with our needs. She did not rush us to leave which I love because my bestie & I were catching up. Stop by & give it a try. We did uber eats and the food was mediocre. I would say i will try it at the restaurant but for now, my review is for takeout. I got two sushi roll & he got the chicken teriyaki. I got the dragon roll and another lexical roll with shrimp tempura I forgot the name. It was alright, the rice threw me off a little bit because it was on the soggy side. I still ate it as it was a bit pricey here. He said he liked the chicken teriyaki but it wasn't anything memorable. Went in on a weekday, finally in the area and trying to see what the hype was about. I knew Mama Sushi was known for adding their own special twists to sushi, Dominican touches. I was excited to try sushi with plantains, salami and cheese. I had to try the Tres Golpe sushi, which had all the mentioned before. It was just like a Tres Golpe dish, with purple onions too. I wanted some seafood so I tried the Conuco, but it was lacking. It was dry and there were dipping sauces, but it was just not savory. The most savory sushi was La Chiapadora. The chicken was soft and the fushion of Asian and Dominican seemed to fit in this plate. It was an experience, so like mentioned, a mix of hits and misses. read more
