Mamá Sushi is such a fun spot if you're looking for something different. The fusion of Dominican and Asian flavors really works. Our favorites were the La Chapiadora roll, the Lobster & Steak roll, and the Churrasco con Huevo. We also loved the ceviche, dumplings, and finished with a delicious coconut flan. Great service, great vibes, and an outdoor patio that's perfect for enjoying a meal. Highly recommend!

"You would've thought" I Go to mama sushi at least twice a week and I always get the same thing... Surely I'm tired of it?! You would've thought shrimp teriyaki bento box & the best roll on the menu (in my opinion)

I'm truly late to the party because I didn't know Mama Sushi had so many locations. I only knew of the Dyckman location but you learn something new every day. I went on a Friday night so I made sure to make reservations in advance. However, when we arrived they never asked if we have a reservation and throughout the night it never got super packed (I was there from 8-11pm) so maybe Friday nights are more lowkey. Given the fact that it wasn't completely packed, I got to see the murals around the restaurant which would typically be a blocked view if there were a lot of patrons. The service was incredible. The hostess understood our need to move to the high top tables after feeling cramped at the lower tables. The servers were super attentive and overall had a friendly and inviting aura. Simple things like honoring extra time needed to review the menu, holding the leftovers in the kitchen so we could enjoy an empty table as we lounged post-meal, and pointing me to the hook under the table for my purse lol. Now for the food. Amazing! The menu is a bit overwhelming at first because there are so many options. I walked in intending to get sushi only as the name suggests but after looking over the menu, my palette quickly changed. So for compromise, we got two sushi rolls (their specialties not the traditional) and two entrees. While I don't remember the names of what we got, man we tore them up! We had to put them aside so we could save room for our entrees lol. My boyfriend's lamb chops were the perfect mix of tender and buttery. I couldn't get enough. He opted for a side of fried rice rather than the yuca mash it comes with and it had a nice hibachi taste to it. I on the other hand got the skirt steak and unfortunately that's why I had to drop one star. In all fairness, it's on me for ordering my steak medium well because it didn't dawn on me at the time that for skirt steak, I should've gone medium rare. I was chewing for minutes after each bite. The flavor was there but the chewiness was off putting and reminds me that certain cuts of steak require certain cooking temperatures so that's on me! The yucca mash was delightful though and I'm usually not a yucca person. The food wasn't super seasoned which sounds like a bad thing but it definitely helped bring out the natural flavor of the food items like the vegetables rather than being over seasoned. According to their IG the have a brand new cocktail menu and we ordered some items off of that. On their website, they have a more extensive drink menu which I was expecting and I think a table next to me was as well. But the drinks were flavorful, not too sweet, and left us feeling a slight buzz. A few folks have complained about the hookah smell and I can see why that's off putting but there is a divide in the restaurant so I recommend advocating to sit in a section where there won't be hookah. The hookah was $35, cash only and doesn't go directly on the bill. For a small hookah it certainly packed a punch and after all the eating we did, we ended up leaving before it fully ran out. We were stuffed! Ended the night by taking pics in-front one of the murals. All in all, it was a fun Friday date night. I'd definitely be back! The only thing is the next time I'll stick to sushi and drinks. A few of the apps (like Philly cheesecake egg rolls) piqued my interest so interested to try those as well next time.

Food, service, and vibes were great on this visit! The happy hour menu has changed and for the better for what I've seen. The prices were affordable and the food has always been good. This Friday evening I went the vibes were great. They had excellent music and a nice variety of it. My bartender was honest and amazing about some things I didn't know or quite understand for that I thank her with a bigger Tip. I bet you want to know what that is. I'll just say it's seems these days and time we are living in it's better to pay with cash. Anyway I had a good time for a nice little solo dinner, I would have no problem coming with a group. Thumbs up and Happy Yelping!

Came here for a quick bite and it happened to be Happy Hour!! The prices were good for what you got. The happy hour drinks were a little over guided but that's normal for happy hour. Had the El Fuerte sushi rolls and they were just delicious. The edamame was fresh and salted. Nice vibe, the bartender is super friendly and the ambience and laid back. Not gourmet but. I've place to hang out and have different sushi styles.

Upscale Japanese / Spanish food. Very clean inside, new interior. Very courteous & attentive staff, & very fast service. Look - this place is not my vibe. Harlem Public had a fire upstairs in their building, though, & Hamilton's Bar & Grill was closed even tho it was during their open hours. I'd already parked at Hamilton's, & was very thankful Mama's was open across the street, esp b:c it was raining. The music was like something out of an Ibiza hotel lobby. The fusion dishes are like something from the "Bar / Restaurant" rescue template. But - everything was cooked perfectly, with fresh ingredients. By the end of my lunch, the place was filling up with locals & everyone seemed happy & was enjoying their food, drinks, & the vibe.

The food was good but the service was trash. The hookah guy approached me first way before the actual server. Took me asking the host if the server was coming (15 mins). The Philly cheesesteak rolls were really good!

On my first visit, I came here for dinner with a few friends. The interior was lovely with cool blue lighting, paintings of Asian art and figures on the walls. There was Truffled Lobster Udon and Cheese under Main Courses, for only $28, so of course I had to get it. What could be better than lobster AND truffle AND cheese? This dish was served with a half lobster tail, Japanese noodles, smoked Gouda, and truffle essence. The lobster was set on top of the noodles, along with a pretty red flower. The lobster was cooked perfectly, delightfully tender, and succulent. Noodles were nicely al dente, with strong flavor of Gouda and slight taste of truffle. I would have liked more truffle, and a lighter cheese. I came back for dinner with a friend and this time we shared 2 cooked sushi rolls and the special fried rice. We tried the Las Terrenas and El Tolete Original. The Las Terrenas was the favorite, consisting of shrimp tempura, fried cheese, salmon, calamari, as well as coconut sauce. The shrimp tempura was crispy, light, and tender. The salmon was also tasty and wonderfully well seasoned. All the rest of the ingredients worked beautifully together. The El Tolete Original contained roasted pork, bacon, crispy white cheese, sweet plantain, grilled steak, along with spicy kani. This was pretty good. I think the succulent steak and sweet plantain stood out the most. The other flavors weren't as distinctive. We also ordered the Mamasushi Special Chofan, which came with lobster, shrimp, octopus, chicken, beef, sweet plantain, Napa cabbage, and egg. This was quite the combination! The rice was cooked perfectly and there was a good amount of each item throughout the dish. Everything was full of flavor and paired well together. Service was solid. Our waitress was friendly and made sure we were taken care of throughout the meal. I would be open to returning at some point to try more of their cooked sushi, which they are known for.

I had been dying to come here and I so happened to be in the neighborhood on a Saturday night so I went in. The music was popping ( reggaeton and house music blasting). I was with my husband and our daughter and it was a fun time. They had a high chair for her and lots to choose from the menu that she could eat- it's not all sushi. We started off by ordering edamame and wonton chicken tacos - the sauce on the tacos was everything , so so good. We got our daughter chicken and fries , it was good. We ordered La chapiadora rolls which has pollo guisado (chicken stew) on it - I know it sounds strange but trust me it was 10/10, get it! We also got the lobster and steak roll and it was yummy 9/10. The last roll was the Mexican and it was good but not amazing , 8/10 . My husband ordered a presidente beer and I had a chinola mojito with tequila and it was very good. For dessert we ordered the coconut flan and it tasted house made and delicious. I'm so happy I made it here and I hope to come back soon.

My answer is always an immediate, "OMGOSH YES," and we know exactly where we're going -- Soba Noodle Azuma. We always get the cold soba combo, LARGE PLEASE. The soba is just SOOO good -- the right chew, the right temperature, the right texture, and the right amount. I used to get the small, now I get the large, but if I can't finish it, my husband will. We've gotten the combos with salmon sashimi, katsu, curry, chicken egg bowl, and the beef bowl. All were good, just depends on what you're craving that day for a little extra something on the side from your soba. And we ALWAYS get their cucumber appetizer. We love our cucumber apps, so we usually get it at every restaurant if it's on the menu, but azuma makes it THE BEST. We also had their okonomiyaki one time. It was really good and very filling, but I feel like it was over-sauced (but im also not a "saucey" type of person). They have other great things on their menu that we want to try, but we just can't get enough of their soba! They're BYOB, so that's a nice little perk if you want to have some light drinks during lunch or dinner. I want to go there with some sake one night and try all of their appetizers. Their version was served on a platter with rice, vegetables, miso soup, and chawanmushi. The patty itself was very juicy and tender and noted on the menu as a beef and pork combination. The space has two clear vibes. I usually sit in the front section, which is mellow, softly lit, and relaxing, with a view of the sushi prep station. If I'm out with higher-energy friends, we'll move to the other section, which feels more like a bar with a few tables and a more festive weekend energy, sometimes with music or a DJ. I've also been here once outside of happy hour and spent around $50-$60. I left full and satisfied, though expectations may vary depending on what you're used to. For me, happy hour is the sweet spot. Staff is consistently polite and professional, the place is clean, and there's always a steady crowd no matter the day or time--which says a lot. They've been around for a while, and it shows. For the area, they're doing a good job. Definitely recommend.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share my experience…read more On Friday, July 11, I went to Giesha for dinner with my best friend since we live in the neighborhood and wanted to enjoy a nice evening out. I ordered a sparkling water that was served in a sealed blue Saratoga bottle along with a cup of ice. Since the bottle was sealed, I poured my water into the cup without thinking twice. We enjoyed our meal, paid the bill, and stayed for a little while to chat. Before leaving, I picked up the cup to pour the rest of my water into it. After taking a sip, I looked down and saw a small roach floating in the cup. I immediately notified our server, who took the cup away. A few minutes later, he returned and told me that the manager said I could receive a discount the next time I visited. That wasn't what I asked for, and to be honest, I wasn't expecting anything at all. He also mentioned that he tried to get me a refund, but the payment had already been processed. What disappointed me the most wasn't the lack of compensation and it was the complete lack of accountability. The manager never came to speak with me personally, despite the fact that I could have potentially ingested a roach. A sincere apology and a direct conversation would have gone a long way in handling such a serious situation. As someone who lives nearby and wanted to support a neighborhood restaurant, this experience was extremely disappointing. I hope Giesha takes food safety and customer concerns more seriously in the future so that no one else has to experience something like this.
