One of the best veggie bowls I have ever had. Got the moku bowl from them and it was so good. Fresh ingredients and clean eating. Staff was really friendly as well. Appreciate their zero waste initiative ! Highly recommend this place in Lahaina. read more

Food is amazing and so refreshing! Coming from the Portland area where there are a good amount of vegan restaurants I am now admitting that Moku Roots is my favorite! They are extremely creative with their dishes and I love that all the ingredients are locally sourced. Their drinks are delicious! Deserts are so good I cannot believe they are vegan! The gals working the front are so sweet and provide excellent service! They even help you pick out fresh produce they have available at the restaurant! The outside seating area is relaxing, I just don't have enough good things to say about this place! I definitely will be coming back as many times as I get the opportunity to! read more

Placed an online order for 3 items after 1pm. It said 20 mins. When I got there, the order hadn't been started. Took another 20-30 mins before it was ready. Taro burger was odd, mushy. Paid $60 for two burgers and a smoothie with 20% tip. I don't understand this place. Had a good experience prior but this was not their finest hour. read more

Food was so-so. Customer service is at an all time low. The cashier kept getting distracted and looking outside of the restaurant while she was taking my order and answering my questions. read more

There were 4 of us and it was unanimously delicious! The mushroom melt was my favorite. I could have done without the taro burger tho. Not terribly flavorful and a bit dry. read more

This place is everything I believe in. They believe in reusables, don't offer to go (because you can't compost "compostable" packaging in Maui), buy local where possible and have an incredible selection of primarily vegan options and a few vegetarian ones with egg and cheese. Their golden milk has fresh turmeric and is hands down the best golden milk I have ever had. I wish this was in my hometown because I would be a regular if it was! read more

Moku Roots - Vegan Near Me - Kula, Hawaii

I wanted to love this place as the food is healthy. However, it just wasn't prepared so well and left me disappointed. The portion of my entree was tiny. Even with an appetizer and salad, I left unsatisfied. Overpriced for the sizes. Flavors were lacking. I have to vote against it. Won't be returning. read more

I wish I would've found this place sooner on our vacation!! Amazing vegan prepared food! Homemade breads are exquisite! My favorite was the falafel wrap adding avocado was perfect! Enjoy tasty healthy fuel for your body! I sure did! read more

Food's great - I got the Moku Bowl as a GF/V. The cocktails were incredible and so was the service - our server came to check in on this countless times. So happy to have discovered this gem! read more

We visited twice while we were on Maui. I am always in search of vegetarian and vegan food. The food here was not mind-blowing, but it was hearty and tasty. We had the pineapple fried rice with taro patty which I found tasty. My husband did not like the texture of the taro patty. Second time there we had the eggplant Reuben, a version of the sandwich I had never had before. The eggplant on my sandwich was a little tough - but not so with my husband's. We both agreed the rye bread was delicious. I also think the lavender lemonade was divine. I liked the edible flowers too. I really love the earth-conscious initiatives at Moku Roots. No plastic, no paper. Cloth napkins, mason jar glasses. They have a station where you can return your dirty dishes, flatware and napkins - with a compost bucket to scrape the leftover food into. They have metal containers for takeout for and the glass jars for takeout drinks - you pay a deposit. I purchased a small Maui gold pineapple and some local bananas to take back to our villa. The cookie I purchased to take home was wrapped in a banana leaf and tied with vine. I would recommend you give this place a try. read more

Moku Roots is a welcome new entry to the Lahaina food scene offering fresh, homemade and handmade vegetarian and vegan share plates, sandwiches, wraps, and entrees that have exciting flavors that are sure to delight everyone (including my carnivorous boyfriend). Love the space and the staff, and the food is bright, healthy, and delicious! The Taro Burger, the Pizza of the Day, the hand rolled vegetarian sushi, and the Vegan Bahn Mi are my favorites! I also love Moku Roots' commitment to eliminating single use plastics. They cleverly wrap their handheld items in a leaf for takeout orders! Or you can purchase their takeout tin that you will receive a full refund for when you return it on your next visit. AND this is now the go-to spot to pick up your Maui Tropsicles. Such a refreshing on these hot summer days! read more

Ordered a vegan chocolate dessert to go and when we received it, I noticed that it was wrapped in a Taro leaf. The dessert was delicious don't get me wrong, but I was concerned about discarding the Taro leaf afterwards. I appreciate the use of bio degradable food storage-- something other than styrofoam--to wrap to go items, but most people will just end up throwing the Taro leaf away when traditionally within the Hawaiian culture, it is used for food. I would suggest using Banana leaves or Ti*( thank you, I did misspell when running spell check) leaves so we are not wasting this precious plant. The owner was kind enough to respond and make very valid points. I do appreciate the support of buying from local farmers so I am going to give an extra star. read more

Staff were friendly and we love the sustainable aspect of this restaurant. We know it was a healthy meal, but the food was on the lower end of mediocre. I ordered the Rueben and the eggplant was so tough and tasteless, I had to pull the majority of it out of the sandwich. Didn't finish most of it. My spouse ordered the Loco Moku and while it was a lovely presentation, it was almost flavorless. I'd maybe try different options here, but was really disappointed, especially seeing all the glowing reviews! read more

One of the best place in Maui to have vegetarian food. Went there couple of times during my Maui vacation . Their burgers were huge and the flavors were outstanding. Meat loaf(vegetarian) sandwich was delicious. One of the days they had Mac and cheese with sausage as daily special, it was great, hope they add it to their permanent menu. Tried lavender lemonade and ginger bug , would recommend the lemonade and not the ginger bug( it tasted like kombucha and I am not a fan). Must visit place for vegetarians. read more

BEST.BURRITO.EVER Man I am so pumped that we finally got to eat here. Had our Maui trip booked for months and have been looking forward to trying this place for ages. Had three, yes three, vegan burritos and if I could have I would have had more. By far the most amazing burrito I've had in my life. The zero waste aspect of this place is totally cool and I loved unwrapping a ti leaf to get at my meal later on in the day. Really stoked to go back and try the linch/dinner menu. Mahalo Moku Roots! read more

We visited this place twice on our trip to Maui. Food choices are great. Our order included. 1. Taro root falafel wrap. 2. OG Breakfast Sandwich 3. Thai iced tea 4. Thai salad. All of them were amazing. The Salad with Zucchini noodles was very refreshing. We loved it so much that we visited this place again before leaving Maui. I love the way they repurposed the glass condiment jars as glasses for water. Cloth instead of tissue papers. Must eat place if you are in Maui near Lahaina. read more

I couldn't get my ass up earlier enough to get pancakes. Had the following: Pad Thai: It's made of zucchini noodles. It's REALLY yummy, but I wouldn't say it tasted like Pad Thai though. It was more peanutty.I would definitely get it again. Taro Burger: The "meat" was a bit thick and starchy. If it was half as thick, put a coating of panko, and fried it, it wouldn't feel as heavy in the mouth. Hummus: Ok.... I am NOT, NOT even a little bit of a hummus fan. This has changed my whole thinking of hummus. I think the magic is the mac nuts. GAAAAWWWWDDD it was SOOOO GOOOD!!! I'm going to try to make this at home - yes it was that good! Meatloaf Sandwich: It's made mainly of mushrooms. Wasn't dry and it was a winner winner!! It's cool that any leftovers are wrapped in a taro leaf. read more

I cannot say enough things about this restaurant. The fact that it's vegan/vegetarian is the best thing but they literally wowed me with their eco-friendly approach. I've never come across a restaurant this green. Places claim to be but this place is legit! They even have a "to go leaf." Their straws are a plant hollowed out. They list every place they source their veggies from, save their compost for recycling, I mean you just can't get any better than this place. Then their food is the bomb too! We had the falafel wrap, mango smoothie, and YLT and they were all delicious. The food flavor creativity and mixtures were unique and amazing. We went back for breakfast a few days later. We can't wait to come back next trip! read more

Just doing my part to inform those who prioritize health over health privacy. Masks are not required here. That is their choice and my choice is to not support them. Thankfully there are only a handful of restaurants on Maui who share this practice. I'm confused as to how it's a choice to not follow the Hawaii state mask mandate though. What other health regulations can restaurants "choose" not to follow. I'm sure I'll get a great response to my post so Aloha to you, and it worked out great for us because we had an amazing meal at Star Noodle. read more

I was looking for something healthy but tasty and was very happy with Moku Roots! I'm not vegan (and my husband is definitely not vegan either!) and we both thought the options were delicious. My husband got the Reuben- marinated eggplant instead of meat- and I got the protein veggie sandwich. Sadly they were already out of the smoothie of the day when we came for lunch, but if it's because everything was as delicious as lunch, I get it. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for here. read more

The food was so amazing here! I can't get over the fresh flavors! And their zero waste belief is great! If you do come for takeout, know to bring your own bowl or it'll be $10 for a reusable tin (which can be turned in later for the $10 refund)! I highly recommend! read more

Great vegan and gluten free options! Good food, desserts, friendly service, and music!

The taro burger is ridiculous. Had to get two, they were just that good. Awesome signature drinks as well. Grab an extra side of naan, you'll thank me. Also, we loved their unique approach to conservation/recycling. Concerning price, it's not cheap but not overly expensive. But you get what you pay for and the quality is good even if portions are a bit on the smaller side. All around great vegan friendly place. read more

Moku roots alone is worth driving to West side for. Unbelievable flavors and creations, simultaneously healthy, and zero plastic / non-compostable waste. The food is amazing and the ethic and waste free practice should be standard everywhere. Bring a reusable cup and container if you're taking it to go! Mahalo to Moku Roots. read more

This is a must stop in Lahaina! I ordered the buffalo wrap and side of hummus. It was more than I could eat, so they wrapped the 2nd half of the wrap for me to take. The staff were all super friendly. And I like the eco friendly aspect, as well (i.e. cloth napkins, banana leaves for wrapping to-go orders, real silverware). Two thumbs up! read more

I love vegan food but Moku encourages people not to get vaccinated and does not care about their customers in terms of vulnerable customers. Community means protecting others and the best way is for all of us to get vaccinated and boosted. It's not our right to put others at risk. It's such a small sacrifice. Can you tell me your employees are all vaccinated? Are you vaccinated? Do you all wear masks when working there? Do you ask your customers to? Do you check if customers are vaxed when they eat inside? I know the answer but I doubt you will be honest and let your customers decide if that is a risk they chose to take. read more

this was my favorite place on my recent trip to maui. Me and partner loved the cauliflower buffalo wrap, the raw pad thai, the ruben, and the chocolate covered cookie dough balls! read more

It was pretty good. Rlly cool that they wrapped everything in banana leaves to minimize plastic waste. I got one of the burgers and the sushi roll; the burger was great but the sushi roll I actually did not like, just bc it had like raw cold slimy mushrooms and peppers and stuff in it, it just wasn't my jam. So if you avoid the sushi roll this place is pretty good. read more

I had the Slightly Spicy Caesar Salad with their homemade vegan dressing and croutons which was really good! Great portions. Loved that they are zero waste (to go food is packed up in banana leaves) read more

Loved this placed! Portions are huge and everything is rich and delicious. They definitely don't skimp on the avocado so if you get anything with guac, they are very generous with it. Service is very good and they use no plastic or other waste. read more

Amazing food! Hearty, fresh and flavorful! So appreciate the locally sourced vegetables too!

Wow what a great restaurant! Although, I am super sad that I found them on my last day here, as I saw so many things on the menu that I would like to order! I ordered the Pad Thai and not only was it delicious, but it came out very fast! The zucchini noodles were so good! So many other restaurants in Maui are very over priced and their food is just mediocre. Moku Roots has great prices, delicious food, and a natural vibe. They are local, organic, sustainable, and the ambiance is fantastic. I can't wait to go again when I return to Maui! read more

Great vegan food. Try the spicy cauliflower roll. Its awesome

Customer service is non existent! Went in with a friend who ordered a salad- I did not order any food. After we sat down a young man from the kitchen brought out two salads saying the kitchen made a mistake and there was no charge for the second salad. Within 5 minutes the young lady with brown hair working the counter comes running outside to ask me if I would pay for the salad! I declined and told her to take it which she didn't. She had attitude from the minute we walked in the door. Ever since the new owners took over food quality has declined and now apparently so has their customer service. This is one local not coming back- taking all my business down the street to Choice. read more

We were incredibly happy with Moku Roots! The staff was very helpful, friendly, and welcoming. The ambience was low key, calm, and tranquil. We opted to share the raw pad Thai, tarp burger, vegan cobb salad, and the special of the day. Each dish had a unique flavor and style. We left feeling full and happy. This is the best vegan restaurant my wife and I have been too bar none. I am vegan and she is not. We went to Maui and visited a few different vegan places as we do when traveling; this by far is the greatest of all time.
